On my typical house condition, I saw very clean in the front, a good amount of length and a smoother backend for this pearl Hustle. The White/Orange colors usually add to smoother ball motion. I see this here with this Hustle Pearl. Smoother than the previous pearl versions but still with the same proven performance. Removing the Power Edge will allow it to be used more on the fresh and keeping the box finish will be for more length and backend. Compared to the Hustle SOS, I saw about 4 boards of less total hook and about 2 more feet of length. Although still smoother, it angles a little harder than the SOS. Provides me length and a controllable motion for a weaker core and coverstock, and it’s not sideways off the spot. This ball may be in the lower price point, but it definitely doesn't give you lower performance! For me, the Hustle VP is clean through the fronts and gives me a smooth, controllable motion down lane without going crazy off the spot.

However, with my older classic down-and-in approach, a light surface tweak to 4000-grit Abralon gave my Hustle VP a very predictable and stable motion off the pattern in late-night conditions. So, if you’re an advanced bowler, I suggest that when you consider where you want to use the Hustle VP, you tweak your surface accordingly, as this will provide you with the best possible success for your game. Roto Grip Hustle VP Ball Specs: Hustle core wrapped in VTC - Versatile Traction Control pearl reactive coverstock and the surface is finished from Storm with Power Edge Layout: 3 x 6 x 4. My Specs: Rev rate 420’s, ball speed 15.3 to 15.8 mph off the hand, axis tilt of 16 degrees and axis rotation of 70 degrees, PAP is 3 13/16th up 1/8th. Tested on Pro-lane and HPL lane surfaces on a 43ft medium volume house pattern and 44ft heavier volume house pattern.The next releases in the VERY POPULAR Hustle line have hit the lanes for the upcoming bowling season. The VP is the latest pearl reactive coverstock version to hit the market replacing the GLOW from last year. I approached Earl Burger at ABC North Lanes Pro Shop to give me something unique in layout that he has not done in the past for me to give me a different roll and shape I normally don’t use and help me get out of my comfort zone and learn new looks and shapes of ball motion. Earl came up with a layout of 3 x 6 x 4 which puts the pin on the left center of my grip below the ring finger and puts the CG about an inch left of my thumb. It reminds me of the RICO drilling from the 90’s and early 2000’s I have seen.I wanted smooth with a little POP in the backend, and that is what I got with the ball and layout combo. I will say this ball is incredible on fresh THS on Pro Lane surface but once the carrydown starts, it's not strong enough to get through the carry down as I was expecting. At Colony Park Lanes I actually used it from the start to finish even after 5 games on the same pair, the ball had a consistent and even reaction. It does like friction but it manages the friction. Heavy carry down is not his friend. I love going straighter at Colony Park because of the topography the lane panels have, especially the lower part of the center where everyone’s balls bounce in the front panels. The VP fills a spot I did not realize I needed, but now glad I do have in my travel and short pattern tournament bags. Stop in at your local PSO to see what the new Hustles are all about. This Hustle VP has a surprising amount of kick! Don't be fooled by the price point – yes, this ball is still for medium to medium-drier lanes, but the directional change that this ball possesses is not weak. This ball glides through the front part of the lanes, which makes it ideal for those with slower ball speeds. Once it sees friction, it has that famous “SPI” ball motion. Due to how clean the cover is, it is not the best for heavier oil patterns. That is not what it is designed for. The Hustle VP makes a great 1-2 punch when paired with the Hustle SOS, which is smoother and can handle a bit more oil. Plus...the colors on this ball are phenomenal!

The Hustle VP has been a great late-game ball for me with the 5 × 4 × 2 layout. It gets down the lane clean and has a strong but predictable move when it sees friction. When the lanes start to break down, this is the ball I can count on to keep striking.

I drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers and CG kicked out 1” from the palm. 5 x 4 x 2 ½. I threw this piece on a Fresh 42’ house pattern. Out of Box ball motion clean through the fronts with a smooth continuous backend motion through the pins. I compared this to the Hustle X-Ray (Solid). X-Ray started a little earlier I the mids with a weaker backend reaction compared to the Hustle VP. Hustle VP has a controllable motion on the backend through the pins. The Pearl addition is called the Hustle VP. The Hustle core has been out there getting it done for years now and still leads the price point in performance for the dollar. The new Orange Creamsicle color scheme on the Hustle VP definitely turns heads. The motion you get out of this entry-level release will too. I tested the Hustle VP on our house pattern after a shift of Senior league had bowled. This makes for a good look at how balls handle transition. I opted for a layout which is much stronger down-lane than I had on previous Hustles I've drilled and boy did I see it. I had to open my angles more than I had expected based on previous hustles I've drilled. This ball really came off the back-end. I couldn't baby the speed either. My carry was outstanding. Once I found the pocket this ball really knocks them off the deck. It creates great angle coming off the outside of the lane. I threw my Hustle RIP (My favorite Hustle) and was amazed at how much slower it was down-lane. This ball is a great value piece and as a Pro Shop Operator it's an easy addition to the wall. The Hustle balls are a great deal and perform and hit like a much higher priced ball. The new Hustle VP (Vanilla Popsicle) has really impressed me! The Hustle VP hooks more than I expected and has a strong predictable move on the back end. The drive through the pins and carry are excellent. I was able to swing the Hustle VP to the dry on our house shot and it created to look I hoped for. The Hustle VP drove through the pocket hard. The orange cream colors look very nice going down the lane. I let one of my buddies with a very high tilt and low speed test it out and he got more miss room and drive than with a lot of his other medium balls. I would consider this ball medium plus in total hook. I put this ball above my Surge but under my Gremlin in total boards. This ball is a very good pick for the new or experienced bowler. Summary: The Hustle VP preforms like a much higher priced ball. The forgiveness and predictability of this ball is a plus. The Glow color is unique and looks great as it rolls. I might have been drawn to Hustle VP strictly because of the colors but after only bringing this ball on vacation with me, I can say this ball is impressive. We went to Myrtle Beach Bowl for 2 hours of bowling for $10 a person just because well why not be in a bowling alley on vacation even though I practically live in one daily. The lanes were obviously not oiled since the day before so it took about a game to be able to throw it at a decent speed. I was able to play straight up 1st arrow throwing about 16 mph and shot a decent 190 game. I decided to see how deep I could play and found a sweet spot on the lanes rolling the ball around 20 at the arrows and getting it out in between 10 to 15. I was able to bowl back-to-back 225 games. I did miss a couple 10 pins but that’s what happens when you only bring one ball.
