Roto Grip UC3 Bowling Ball

The Rubicon™ UC3 (Ultimate Concept 3) takes Tour Level performance to a whole new level. We first focused on core specifics and decided that the mildly asymmetric Rondure™ Core was the ideal core shape in order to generate adequate flare. From there we engineered the Tour-ethane™ Pearl coverstock to maximize performance and control on those higher friction patterns and lane surfaces. This core and urethane cover combination changes the game!

I drilled my RUBICON UC 3 with a 50 x 4 x 30 layout. So far I have used at the out of box surface which is 1000 abralon. I haven't threw many urethane releases due to not needing that kind of look for my lower rev rate. I can usually line up with pin under-smoother balls to play shorter patterns or flatter conditions. The UC-3 is a little stronger than I imagined and to my eyes looks more like a Hustle type reaction with a stronger core. I have actually put this on the lanes with a little more head oil to keep it online because it does finish strongly. Compared to my HYPED HYBRID, the UC-3 is close on gripping the lane earlier. The HYPED is more ball on the back end as the UC-3 is more smoother arc compared to it. I can see the UC-3 being more in play to start when patterns are a little flatter and a lower rev rate player needs that urethane type control but a FAST PITCH or PITCH BLACK is just too slow and hits flat at the pocket.

Roto Grip Rubicon UC3 Coverstock---Tour-Ethane Core---Rondure Core The most interested Roto Grip ball to come out in the last years, in my personal opinion. Urethane...but not what you'd expect. Strong Core, traditional reactive ball flare, traditional reactive ball strength, urethane control. The most impressive thing I have seen from the UC3 is the ability it has to read the pattern. I have thrown this on 5 different patterns (2 house, 3 sport) and I can play pretty similar parts of the lane one all of them. Having a ball that I know i can start with and stay in my comfort zone...that's the dream. I've seen many different bowling styles excel with the UC3. If you're looking for strength with control, this is the one for you.

Roto Grip combined the proven Rondure Core and wrapped it with their intuitively engineered Tour-Ethane Pearl coverstock. This winning combination makes the UC3 an excellent match for straighter players like me. So let's take a closer look! The "mildly" asymmetric Rondure Core introduced with the Rubicon is ideal for a straighter and more down-and-in player like me. This core rev's smoothly in the mid-lane as you typically see with a symmetric, but stands up with authority as it exits the pattern. The Rondure Core delivers a hard-rolling crunch through the pins with its strong continuous motion. And it rolls definitively through the deck while keeping the pins low and swirling! For straighter and higher-tilt players like me, the Rondure Core is an excellent choice for the UC3. Can you imagine a straighter player rolling urethane? Well, with the Tour-Ethane Pearl coverstock found on the UC3, my answer is "absolutely!" The Tour-Ethane Pearl coverstock brings a new dimension for us straighter and down-and-in players. As the night progressed, I was actually able to move right with this coverstock! While everyone else continued to move in and swing the lane, I could roll the UC3 right of the second arrow and enjoy bowling with the consistency of my A-game all night! In my opinion, the Tour-Ethane coverstock gives straighter players a new weapon against those high-rev, two-handers that can create havoc on your ball path! The Tour-Ethane cover is smooth, reliable, and consistent on light to medium oil. This cover will give you the confidence to stay right for those of us who enjoy playing down and in! In conclusion, with the release of the UC3, urethane is no longer just for those high-rev, high-speed, no thumb bowlers. The Rubicon UC3 is a well-designed combination of core and cover that will produce excellent results for older and straighter players like me. Roto Grip has undoubtedly hit the mark with the release of the UC3, which has earned a place in your arsenal. So stop by your local pro shop today, have it ready for tonight's league, and enjoy the results! Rick Klimowicz Storm Products Pro Shop Staff Roll the Ball Pro Shop Penndel, PA

The UC3 is urethane reimagined. With a mild asymmetric core and the pearlized Tour-ethane cover, this ball creates a shape unlike anything else on the market. Stronger and more shape than traditional urethane, but still able to blend out wet/dry conditions and control those flatter patterns.

The Rubicon UC3 features mildly asymmetric Rondure core and the Tour-ethane Pearl coverstock. With disappearance of weight holes, such mildly asymmetrical cores became a go-to. I have had a good of amount of success with the Rubicon UC2, so having the same core with a completely different coverstock is very intriguing. I drilled my Rubicon UC3 with a pin down layout: 50 x 5 x 75. Previously, I had little success with "urethane-like" bowling balls with stronger asymmetrical cores because a lot of times the cores were too strong for me to play straighter but then the coverstocks were too weak for more open angles. Rubicon UC3 seems to the one I can use much more. With this pin-down layout, my Rubicon UC3 doesn't flare too much, which I believe allows it, together with a cleaner coverstock, to maintain a bit more energy and continue stronger at the end of the pattern. I believe that the Rubicon UC3 is a good option to have in your arsenal for shorter medium patterns where a Pitch Black or Fast Pitch may be too weak. I can also see this ball being very useful on longer medium patterns if the structure of the pattern requires bowlers to play closer to the gutter. Rev-dominant bowlers who are looking for a smoother overall reaction should like the Rubicon UC3.

Urethane and I have never gotten along. Mostly because I don't have enough hand in the ball matched with too much speed, I can't ever get it to read the lane. The UC3 presents a way different look for me than any other urethane ball ever has. It's probably the mix of pearl that is in the cover matched with the asymmetrical core that is helping me out a lot. Regardless I am loving the shape I get out of the UC3. Not to mention the ball is just beautiful.. It gave me a great look over the weekend when we started on a shorter pattern allowing me to keep the ball in front of me and still get a decent amount of shape into the pocket. I am over-all thrilled with this piece in my bag and it will be going to every tournament.

Rubicon UC3 RG: 2.49 Diff: 0.052 PSA: 0.011 Coverstock: Tour-Ethane Layout: 4 x 4 x 1 RPM: 360 (Left Handed) Being a lower rev player and on the left side, I never felt the need to have Urethane in my bag. Storm and Roto Grip put out some good Urethane balls over the years, but I always stayed away from purchasing one, until the Rubicon UC3 came out. Something about this ball seemed different so I decided to give it a try and am I glad I did. In my bi-weekly couples league on the 2nd shift of an extremely wet/dry pattern, this ball allowed me to play straight up the lane and give me that smooth / predictable motion on the back part of the lane. This ball always has a spot in my bag, whether I am heading out to league or a tournament. Glen Deutschendorf Storm Staff Member

The Rubicon UC3 (Ultimate Concept 3) or simply UC3 uses the Low RG Rondure Core and Tour-ethane Pearl Cover stock to give you more reaction than the standard urethane bowling ball. First off, I am not a urethane guy until I threw the UC3. This bowling ball is the first bowling ball out of my bag when I go to league. I have a huge problem with over and under on a fresh league condition and the UC3 blends that out for me. The UC3 creates a readable reaction and my angles are not drastic. The UC3 allows me to stay closer to the dirt and when the dirt blows up, I can still move left with this bowling ball. It is the first "urethane type" bowling ball that I will gladly drill for a customer. Compared to the Pitch Black or any of the pitches, the UC3 just has more reaction overall. The layout I used was a basic pin over the bridge with the mass bias in my thumb hole. I believe the numbers are 5 ½ X 5 ½ x 2 3/4 which is based off my PAP of 5 5/8 over and ¾ up. What I have noticed with the UC3 and any "urethane type" bowling ball is the break point is closer than a regular resin bowling ball. With my lower rev rate and slower ball speed I am farther right with my feet and eyes so that I can make sure to hit the dirt or dry boards. The UC3 allows me to have some wiggle room because it is stronger on the backend than the other "urethane type" bowling balls. If you were looking for a "urethane type" bowling ball the UC3 is the clear choice.

The Rubicon UC3 features the same Rondure core featured in the original Rubicon and the UC2. This core has now proven to be a winner with whatever cover you decide to wrap it in. They teamed it up this time with their Tour-ethane™ Pearl cover and again, it just works. This is the most continuous urethane ball I've ever thrown. Its strong enough for the fresh, smooth enough to blend out any condition and continuous enough to throw right and get back through the pins. I tested the Rubicon UC3 on the high Volume house pattern at my home center. I've never thrown Urethane on this version of our house pattern. Mostly because there's so much volume than I can easily throw my most aggressive pieces and partly because I assumed throwing urethane would force me right which would push oil downlane to the right and making the lanes flatter as the night went on. I threw the UC3 where I would assume I needed to be with urethane (very close to the friction) and watched it go left and keep going. I decided to move to the line I had been playing with reactive balls in the same hook range as the original Rubicon, figuring I'd adjust right to get the ball through the pins. Then I watched the UC3 go through the head-pin. I ended up 3 left of there watching the ball split the 8-9. I also figured I'm have to transition away from it after half a game or so. Instead I threw all 3 games and never stopped seeing the ball go through the pins the right way. The Rubicon UC3 is the most usable urethane I've personally thrown. I don't have the kind of rev rate that usually keeps a urethane useful on higher volume patterns but the UC3 doesn't have the same weaknesses in down-lane hitting power than most urethane's do when covering boards.

The Rubicon UC3 can be looked at in two different ways: it is either the evolution of the urethane ball, or it closes the gap between urethane and reactive. Either way, the combination of the Rondure core and the Tour-ethane coverstock definitely creates a unique ball motion that is a must in any tournament bowler's bag. With the strong midlane motion that this ball has, while still having that smooth backend motion that urethane is known for, it is money on shorter or cliffed patterns. I do think that this ball is certainly too much motion for truly dry lanes, as it will pick up too early and burn off energy. However, when this ball is in play, it is a motion that is not matched by anything else being produced in Utah. It is a good 2-3 boards stronger than the Pitch Black.

To be honest I personally have not been a fan of urethane. I don't have a 500 rev rate, and have a lot of axis tilt. The Pitch black and Pitch Purple was just okay for me. Well Roto Grip introduced the UC3 with an asymmetrical core and a new Tour ethane pearl coverstock. I drilled mine 4 inch pin above fingers. First off lets just say this ball is very different and it actually hooks a little down lane. The UC3 has a very unique ball motion. I have been able to use the UC3 on multiple sport patterns, especially the medium to short. So for me being a tweener the UC3 allows to me compete with the higher rev guys throwing urethane. So give it the UC3 a try today! Brian Watson Storm Pro Shop Staff

The Rubicon UC3 is one of the most unique balls I have ever thrown. If you didn't know this ball was urethane and you watched it go down the lane, you would think it was a reactive ball. The UC3 features an all-new Tour-Ethane pearl urethane coverstock and has the asymmetrical Rondure core. The ball comes finished at 1000 grit abralon and at 15 pounds has an RG of 2.49, a differential of .052 and an intermediate differential of .011. The 1000 grit finish makes this ball very strong in the front part of the lane. I found that by bringing the surface up to 3000, the ball got the length that I was looking for. The backend is where this urethane ball separates itself from previous balls such as the Pitch Black or Fast Pitch. The UC3 allowed me to open my angles and still provided more than enough recovery on the backend to get the ball to the pocket and go through the pins the right way. This is a great ball for shorter and flatter tournament patterns and can even be thrown on a typical league house shot when you want to play closer to the friction all night.

Ball Specs: Roto Grip UC3 Coverstock: 1000-grit Tour-ethane™ Pearl Weight Block: Rondure™ Core (Asymmetrical) Color: Platinum Pearl Review: When this ball was first announced I got excited. A pearl urethane? It instantly made me think of the old Natural Pearls which was one of my favorite bowling balls. But when I got the ball and drilled it then went and bowled with it, it reminded me more of the Badger Infused which was a hybrid mix of reactive resin and urethane compound. The Rubicon line has been very successful as a whole, adding a ball like this pushed that line to the next level. This ball is a little stronger than traditional urethane which makes it great for those tournament level bowlers. When the lanes start to get to much carry down, I switch to this ball which allows me to control my angles better and still stay striking, Make sure you grab one! Rev Rate: 375 Ball Speed: 15-16 mph PAP: 5 inches over, 1/2 inch up Layout: 60x5x30 The Rubicon UC3 brings urethane to a new level of lane play versatility. You want to use it on sport shots? Check! How about your typical house shot? Check and check! The combination of the Tour-ethane Pearl cover stock and Rondure asymmetrical core gives it a shape that you won't normally see in a urethane bowling ball. I've been impressed with how I can shape the ball like a regular reactive without seeing the tendencies that would keep me from using a urethane ball on a house shot. If you took the name off the ball you wouldn't even notice the difference. And of course, the UC3 has its place when the shot gets tougher(sport shot). This is an excellent piece to have with you during your tournament weekends and you can now dabble with it during league as well. Check out the Rubicon UC3 at your local pro shop today!

New! Best way to describe the UC3 is new. Urethane but different then all other Urethane out there. It's like it knows when to be a Urethane ball and when to be resin. It will be an absolute must for all serious bowlers. If you don't have it there will be times you're at a disadvantage to everyone else who does.

When i heard we were making another asymmetrical urethane ball i was a little nervous just cause i wasn't the biggest fan of the hot cell. But once i put holes in this new Rubicon UC3 I was blown away. This ball gives you everything you want out of a urethane ball. This ball likes to pick up and slow down just about anywhere i threw it on the lanes. I can't wait to get out to some of these shorter patterns and test this ball out. If you're looking for the next urethane ball in your bag, LITERALLY look no further this is rthe ball for you. One of my favorite urethane balls of all time. Roto Grip Rubicon UC3 Ball Review by PJ Haggerty As urethane balls continue to become more and more popular, Roto Grip released a Rubicon UC3 and, wow, it's impressive! I've been a big fan of the Pitch Black and Fast Pitch from Storm, but the UC3 is so much different than both of those while still providing a urethane-type motion. I've noticed the UC3 is a perfect fit between urethane and reactive and also has a consistent spot in my bag wherever I go. I've drilled one UC3 so far and love it. I drilled it as 5 x 4.5 x 75 which puts the mass bias just right of my thumb. Because the UC3 has a tour-ethane pearl coverstock, the response time is much quicker than traditional urethane but still isn't as quick as reactive balls can be. I've typically left the surface around 2000 to make sure the ball still sees the mid-lane and doesn't fly through it. From a pattern standpoint, I've had the most success on medium-longer patterns with a decent amount of volume. I think the response time is too quick for the shorter patterns, but that's where the Fast Pitch or Pitch Black could be used. Overall, the UC3 is so much different than any other ball in the Storm family and provides players with a unique shape that is a perfect blend between urethane and reactive. I'd highly recommend drilling one of these because of how versatile it is and because of how many different patterns it can be used on. Go drill one!

I'll be honest, I was a bit skeptical when It comes to asymmetric "urethane". The Hot Cell was the last asymmetrical urethane option we offered, and it was very hit or miss for a lot of people. When I drilled my first UC3, it immediately surprised me. With having a much larger core than most urethane pieces, it wants to pick up and slow down from pretty much any part of the lane. The cover is also unique and provides a much different look when thrown against solid urethane balls (Pitch black and Fast pitch). Having a weaker cover and stronger core, the UC3 allows you to play a zone farther left as well as being enough ball to throw on a wide variety of patterns when the Pitch black might not be in play. I've been able to throw the UC3 on some higher ratio patterns and it's been excellent at blending the friction as well as being able to throw it on the fresh on some harder patterns as well. I just drilled my second UC3 with a different layout and I can see a third in my future as well!

Drilling pattern: 95 x 4 7/8 x 75 Pin position: Below ring finger Not sure what I can say that hasn't already been said about this ball. I am not typically one to have urethane in my bag (unless the pattern ABSOLUTELY calls for it) as I have a very moderate speed and very early roll and urethane will usually begin to roll the second it hits the lane and by the time it gets to the pocket it has no energy (think LOTS of flat 10's with the occasional 5 pin) so I was a little skeptical. However, after watching numerous people in my area swing this ball like reactive, my attention was piqued. I talked with my PSO and decided a long pin, nearly 5 inches, but a low pin drilling would best suit my game. This ball is an absolute ANIMAL. The early roll is still prevalent but it doesn't quit down lane. It's pretty amazing what the guys in Utah were able to do with this. A continuous urethane ball that you can actually play left to right? Never thought I'd see the day. This ball will go with me EVERYWHERE. I've been able to use it both on THS as well as multiple sport patterns (including ones that are over 45 feet of oil, I know, crazy, right?). The number of adjectives used to describe the UC3 are endless. In short, get one, you won't regret it. Brent Ritchie 900 Global/Storm/Roto Grip Staff Member

Layout 5 x 4 x 2.5 Style – stroker Ball Speed – 14 mph Condition – 3 different house patterns on 2 older HPL surfaces Surface – box condition I've not had any use for urethane in my bag other than using it for a spare ball previously. My style certainly didn't lend itself to being urethane friendly. At best, I could get one game out of any of the previous incarnations and greatly struggled with getting the ball to continue. The UC3 changes all of that for me. I was certainly surprised at how many people during our Matchmaker loved the reaction. That changed my opinion of what the ball was and if I'd order one. My first opportunity to roll the ball was on a lighter/weekend pattern on used HPLS. Oh my, did this ball hook. I got moved into areas of the lane with urethane that I'd never been before. It became apparent quickly that this wasn't the pattern to roll this ball on. Head oil is going to be a must have, with any urethane, but specifically with this one. Another used HPL house for a doubles tournament and I used the ball all day long. While the pattern played very tight and showed me no down lane reaction with resin, the UC3 picked up and allowed me some ball motion. As the lanes transitioned through the day I was continually impressed with motion of the ball. While other urethane pieces tend to lend themselves to the higher rev rate and ball speed crowd. The UC3 will appeal to the masses. For me it was mid lane pick up and impressive continuation that will make this ball useable for a wide range of bowlers. I used a small tweak to my typical favorite layout after speaking to my sales representative. Taking the pin buffer from 1.5 to 2.5. The only thing I haven't experienced yet is what the ball will do to a pattern for a 3-game league session. I have my assumptions, but we'll see if that holds true.

Roto Grip Rubicon UC-3 Layout: 45 X 4 X 35 - 1000 grit from factory - enhanced to 3000 grit by hand Test drive on SPL lane surface with 46ft THS with a Kegel ION lane machine OK, It is not your average urethane bowling ball. The Rondure cover was designed to have a better ball motion than other ASYS cores with a weight hole like in the past. Adding the new Tour-ethane to this already impressive core design made a motion not seen in the past from other "strong" urethane balls. I did enhance the cover to 3000 grit during the testing and practice sessions I had with the UC-3, it was still a little early moving in the front part of the pattern, a couple shots almost when dead right off of my hand - OPERATOR error - not the ball's fault... :-)... PLay the ditch and pretty much straight up for me and did not lose any motion or pain carry throughout the sessions. Friend of mine also purchased one - he is WAY speed dominant and still was REALLY impressed by the overall motion of the ball during the course of the night on the lanes. He actually got BETTER carry than the other 2 balls he was using that night. He did leave his surface alone, unlike me who is REV dominant and speed deficient. Great overall ball for anyone's game and does look really COOL on the rack. LIke the UC-3 WAY better than the Pitch Purple. Nice 1 - 2 combo of urethane - the UC-3 and Pitch Black. Best to urethanes out there!!!

With the Pitch balls, I had to be further right and much more exact to play anywhere but up the lane.
