Columbia 300 Scout Black Bowling Ball

(12 reviews) Write a Review

As a three-piece non-reactive urethane performer, it ranks with the best. It has all of the same characteristics of the Black Shadow™ , and Black U-Dot® , some of Columbia's best 3-piece non-reactive urethane balls. Bowlers are big on the Black Shadow. Watch it perform on medium oil, with more hook and backend snap. And it has all the characteristics of our Black U-Dot®. Like the original high-friction, non-reactive urethane formula coverstock, Black Shadow definitely delivers more bang for your bucks.

Only one year old, our Scout™ line is a proven champ.  This non-reactive variation has earned a rightful place among our best 3-piece, non-reactive urethane balls.  The sanded surface enhances the friction.  And this year we've added a Ruby Red Pearl that's already turning heads.

The pin is in the palm of my hand and the ball very casually strolls or in my case jogs quickly down makes a lazy easy turn at the end then crushes bowling pins. Also the urethane cover stock allows me to use this very easily for a spare ball. When the lanes are utterly Torched, so dry it is a desert, or anything else involving dry you can think of this ball is my first and only choice. What else is there to say about this ball I can't think of anythiing else this 100 word limit is tough to do when you are talking about a urethane ball come on!

Right handed Stroker—down and in shot with very little hand—medium speed low revs. Mine is drilled label with the pin in the center of my grip. I like this ball. I learned to throw a hook with this ball. I know what to expect from this ball and I would say it fits my style. I would describe the hitting power as decent. This ball is a great spare ball. It never overreacts and is very accurate for me on any condition. For more then a year it was my only ball--this ball is not a good strike ball (for me at least) on oily conditions, the ball will slide and loose energy on the way to the pocket. Even so, the ball usually generated good pin action. It never really crushed the pins but that is more because of my style then the ball’s design. I never found the pancake weight block to be a disadvantage. Rarely would I get a split when the ball missed and went in through the nose. I also get a lot of Brooklyn strikes with this ball.

Great ball really not only for beginners but anyone really. It does the job i need it to right now and does it on almost all lane types. People are saying its only good on dry lanes even though the hook rating for the ball is equal between dry and heavy oiled. I bowl at around 4 different lanes and it work perfect on all of them. Most lanes i bowl at are mid oiled and the ball still does have a good amount of hook. It really just depends on how you throw the ball. I did get the ball fingertip.<s

I got this ball when i started bowling, that was about three years ago.I was jus a beginner but i only used it for wood lanes. It had an ok hook.Though now i have balls like the *buzzaw*,and the *illusion*.Oh i reccomend those balls in case u wanted to know.I didn't mind the color.i had the finget tips but i didn't have thumb tips.It didn't go across the lane very well.If u put it in the right place that ball will satisfie u. It satisfied me.All u have to do is find ur mark and keep it in the same place and u will be safe

I'm not saying that this ball really sucks.. because this ball is probably close to perfect to being a good ball for beginners of hook balls...its jus that im looking for a lil bit more agressive ball than the one i have....but at least it got me used to hooking balls....this ball has got me good averages if i throw it right....key word "if i throw it right" i havent really been able to throw the ball exactly right..but im getting there...and thanks to this ball i can get more into bowling than what i was at the beginning of it.!!!!!!!!!!<scrip

This ball hooked on oil and with out it. It has one of the best hooks I have seen. It was my second ball I ever had..and hooked the most than any other one I have had. Great ball for beginners or as a spare ball. May need to be cooked to get some oil out of it after a while, but that is like any other ball. I was not disappointed in buying it. Great ball for any type of lane condition. Great price for it too. The hook either starts early or starts at the backend , depending on the way you throw it and hooks hard either way.

For a recreational bowler like me, this ball is perfect. I had it drilled a little agressive, and it hooks perfect for me. I shoot out over the first arrow, and it comes into the pocket nicely. The scout will hit with authority, and the pins will fly. Great Pin action, and very forgiving. The nicest thing about this ball is the consistency. I bowled my first 200 game with this ball, and the big thing was finally picking up my spares. I cannot wait to use this ball on league night. The look of the ball is nice as well.

If you are looking for a ball to throw on light to dry lanes than this is probably a good bet. This ball Is not one that you are going to swing out and bend for a crushing blow to the pocket, but I cant think of any urethane balls that will. However it is better than most urethane balls and has a decent amount of hook potential when lanes will allow. I like that on oily lanes I can throw it at the ten pin with my normal shot and it seems to keep itself on the lane from the additional revs. No more channel shots on those ten pens that is worth it by itself. plus at 75 dollars drilling included it is not heavy on the pocket book.

This ball has great carry, and leaves virtually no pins standing. it carries everything from light to very heavy shots. One other great thing about this ball is it hits very hard for a three piece core. I was expecting something a little weak but got something I really like and would recommend to other players who want the length and predictability from a urethane ball. This ball is overall worth the money and would be a great choice for tournament players wanting a weak hooking, yet still effective ball that is not polished or pearlized. I have found that anytime I get lost or can't figure a shot out, I pick this ball up and get a very effective read on the lanes because it doesn't give the over under reaction like many reactive resin balls.
