I found Steve (the name engraved inside the Q) on eBay. From description: The ball’s starting specs were pin = 2 ½ inches and top weight = 2.8oz. The ball was drilled for a right hander with the pin ¼ inch from the ring finger in a 1 o’clock position in relation to the finger. The CG is kicked ½ inch left of a perfect stacked position. There is no weight hole. The ball is set-up to have a strong continuous arc with a smooth backend reaction. Received the ball; thumb was plugged and the surface was OOB condition (matte). The guy only threw it for THREE GAMES and got rid of it. So I had the thumb drilled with a slug and new finger inserts, took it down to the pair next to the one I was to bowl in league and threw my first shot. I play from around 18 to 7, at 25' and the 11 board it just hooked and drove into the 2-4. I jaw just dropped and nearly took a dump in my boxers :) Threw it a couple of more times and said it was too much for me. And I don't even have that much hand! So I thre

This ball just turns the corner like no other I have ever seen. It cuts through the oil like a saw cuts through wood. Quantum has always made hard hooking and hitting ball, but this one takes the cake. The Proactive material on the ball just makes for such a huge turn. This ball is drilled down ring finger with an x-hole, this ball hooked in less than 2 seconds. I would however recomend an x-hole because if a low rev player wants hook, or if a high rev player wants length. It is a shame because this ball is one of the very few true oil balls that is left on the market and it is discontinued, if someone has it, buy it.

This has recently become my #1 ball. My local house has changed the shot a bit, and I've now moved left and just toss the Slate out there. Works like this: roll the ball with a little hand (no more "ripping the cover off") , turn around and go sit down while the computer says "X." People think you're a big cranker, but its just not true! Mr. Slate just covers the lane. And very few corner pins....hit in the hole, and everything goes straight back because the pins stay low. Hit light, and Mr. Slate shreds it! Maintenance is a key to continued success: I hit it with some Windex every 3 games, and the Scotch-Brite about every three sets. This is the vintage ball to get if you bowl on oil. It's not a skid-snap ball, if that's your game.....it's a very heavy roller that turns and hits like a Quantum. Best of all, the Proactive cover simply ignores carrydown and drives right through it. 2/1/05: If anyone has one of these monsters for sale, drop me a line!

This ball is a beast. The Icon, The Vortex II particle, the Storm Eraser Boost, and even the Apex Addiction WILL NOT hook as much as this ball does. This ball is a machine on the lanes and is very forgiving. Tends to leave its share of ten pins but the good outweighs the bad with this one. You can't ask for more on a heavy oil shot, especially at my house, where the shot is flooded week after week. I recommend that if you can get you hand on one of these, you do so because it is well worth it.
