  • Revenant is awesome!

I am higher speed, rev challenged 220-250ish, high tilt, high rotation, and super low track player. The Revenant has definitely become one of my favorite newer releases. I drilled mine 5x3x2 and my axis point is 3 1/4 right and 7/8 up. The Revenant is a perfect addition to my arsenal because it allows me to ball down from my Phaze V and stay right. This ball retains a bit more energy down lane but still provides the shape and continuation I need. This ball definitely does not disappoint!

For those who loved the Spectre we have the Revenant. Same cover/core as the Spectre although the Revenant has the new Reacta Gloss finish. When the lanes really begin to hook early the Revenant will be a great option to go to that will clear the fronts and provide plenty of continuation down lane. I see the Revenant being a step down off of the Fate.

The ball that I personally have been waiting on since the Spectre left us way too soon. The Revenant has the same Vector core and R3S Pearl cover on it. I drilled mine 5 x 5 x 3 and let me tell you, once I knocked the Reacta Gloss of this ball, it made the same motion and shape as my Spectre pretty much. The Revenant might be a couple feet longer down lane but the similarities are close. I can see myself using this in multiple situations and different time in blocks. If you were a fan of the Spectre and want it’s replacement that has been missing. Look no farther than the Revenant!

Layout: 55 x 4 ½ x 35 Following in the footsteps of the Spectre, the Revenent provides a smooth, consistent reaction on medium to medium-light oil conditions. It has enough midlane read to be used for straighter angles on some medium-heavier conditions, but it is most at home on medium oil. It is very clean in the front part of the lane, and has a smooth arc the rest of the way. The Revenant is a great step down from equipment such as the Exotic Gem, Infinite Physix, or Eternity, which are all at home on heavier conditions. The Revenant has more overall motion than balls such as the Electrify GO or BSY, and is smoother than the Hyped Pearl or HyRoad Pearl.

Drilled my go-to layout, 5 x 5 x 3 (pin above middle finger) OOB surprisingly ton of free skid. With my slower ball speed this ball gives a great look on a THS being able to play the track area. Hard, but predictable strong arc on the backend. Real easy ball for me to read the breakpoint. The ball lets me square up a bit and keeps angle of entry in front of me. When the lanes break down, especially up front the ball really lets me stay aggressive with my release. No worries of early hook. Experimented with a 3000 abralon to the cover. The Revenant turns into a smooth arcing benchmark ball for me on shorter, fresh patterns. Quite the versatile ball from Storm. For a comparison longer and a tad sharper than the Dark Moss Wolverine. Cover: R3S Pearl Reactive Core: Vector Core RG: 2.54 RG . Drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers and CG kicked out 1” from the palm. Out of Box ball motion is clean through the fronts with a smooth motion on the backend. I took a 2k and 3k Abralon afterwards and it was still clean through the fronts with a stronger continuous backend motion. I compared this piece to the Spectre, Fate, Phaze V and Night Road. This is similar-2 more than the Spectre. Fate was 2-2 left of the Revenant. Phaze V is a little weaker by 1-2 boards. Night Road is 0-2 more all around but with a stronger backend motion. This is a good replacement if you like the Spectre or are wanting to get a medium condition pearl piece. Storm’s new Revenant is a smooth, strong rolling ball. And with Storm’s combination of Vector Core and R3S Pearl Reactive, the Revenant delivered some exciting results you wouldn’t normally expect from a mid-priced ball. So, let’s take a closer look at the Revenant and what’s behind its success! At the heart of the Revenant is the Vector Core. And with its unique symmetrical design, the Vector Core delivers a smooth, hard rolling motion. I like how the Vector Core rev’s slowly in the mid-lane and builds momentum as its rolls toward the pins. And unlike other weak symmetrical cores, I found the Vector Core’s smooth and continuous motion creates a powerful intensity that explodes as it enters the pocket. And I liked how the Vector Core drives through the pins without losing intensity. And with its steam-rolling continuation, even those “uh-oh, I missed” ten pins found their way into the pit! R3S Pearl Coverstock is a good combination with the Vector Core. However, being a higher speed/lower rev player, the Reacta Gloss finish needed some tweaking to fit my style, especially on a fresh THS. So, I took the R3S Pearl coverstock to 1500-grit Abralon followed by Storm #2 (320-1500 grit) compound and watched how the Revenant came alive! First, the R3S cleared the heads smoothly, and then the R3S’s smooth and clean motion continued through the mid-section with a well-defined continuous roll to the pins. And as late-night conditions deteriorated, or when bowling the second shift, I found the R3S remained smooth and consistent through the over/under and spotty conditions. So, in my view, with the proper surface adjustment to fit your game, the R3S Pearl Coverstock gave the Revenant a predictable motion you could depend on all night. In conclusion, the Revenant is an excellent release by Storm. And with its mid-priced affordability, it’s a great choice for many style bowlers. New bowlers will find the Revenant a great first ball that will get you striking and loving the game. And for the more advanced down–and–in bowler like me, The Revenant is an excellent choice when you need a step down from those big cores and strong covers that won’t carry no matter what you do! REVENANT Cover: R3S Coversock with Reacta Gloss Finish Core: Symmetrical Weightblock Fragrance: Bear Claw Review: When the Spectre first came out it was a must have in every bag. The Revenant is doing the exact same with the R3S cover and the Vector core. For a pearl this ball extremely smooth and controllable for me right out of the box. Getting cleanly through the fronts with a strong continuous motion was exactly what you would expect from this ball. Usually pearls are very snappy and hard for me to control, but when I threw this one I found myself not having a fear of strong snappy backend motion that would be difficult for me to control. With this ball I feel that I have more control when I miss and get better forgiveness when I miss outside. This ball is going to be a staple in bags for years to come, make sure you pick one up! • Perfect Spectre Replacement

Posted by Double B Ball and Drill on May 4th 2023

The Revenant for me has been a perfect if not better replacement for the Spectre. I love the look of the colors going down the lane and because they are darker it definitely gives me a more rounded shape on the lane that resembles and !Q Tour Solid. I drilled mine pretty strong with a 4x4x2 because I do have higher speed and the house I regularly bowl in has a pattern that definitely has some oil. So I needed it to read the body of the pattern later in the night and that’s exactly what it gives me. Come game 3 and 4 for league night this ball is no doubt coming out of bag it allows me to stay further to right and play on top of the track where carry is better instead of forcing me into 4th arrow or worse. The biggest thing that I love about this ball is that it almost never over reacts to friction on me, so if I do leak one right I don’t pay maximum penalty and honestly most of the time it strikes! But really if you are looking for a Spectre replacement then look no further than the Revenant but if you never got a chance to throw the Spectre and see what the hype was about then I suggest you give the Revenant a shot!

  • Great spectre replacement

Posted by Garrett Richardson on May 3rd 2023

The Storm Revenant drilled 4 x 5 x 3 puts the pin just left of the ring finger and CG out. This is a great replacement for the spectre. For high rev bowlers this will be a great ball for league or lanes with high friction. During league I noticed out the box it was going too long so I went and used a 3000 abralon pad by hand to change the surface and the ball came to life. Changing the surface gave me about 4 more boards to play so don’t be afraid to change the surface on it if needed to fit your game. If you have the Storm Absolute having the Storm Revenant will be a great 1 2 punch especially for league both similar in motion, control and reaction. Good comparison would be with the Storm Night Road both being pearls except the Storm Night Road has a much stronger cover (REX pearl) vs the Storm Revenant (R3S pearl). The Storm Night Road for me is 5 boards stronger. The Storm Revenant is smoother down lane so you could technically have both if you need one smooth and one with more back end. Another great piece from Storm! Garrett Richardson Storm Amateur Staff

One of my favorite drilling is pin through the ring finger and I decided to put that on this ball. Even more so, it still remains one of my favorite drillings. The Revenant reads the mid lane a little more than some do just because of the drilling, but it remains calm off the break point and goes through the pins nicely. I never have to wonder if the ball is gong to overhook, or store enough energy -- it does what I need it to. I personally wouldn't recommend the ball on fresh, but I think it's a great transition ball for game two or later in the block. Definitely a piece that will stay in my bag for tournament play.

defined: a person who has returned, especially supposedly from the dead. The most clever of ALL the names given to a ball, The Revenant is the 2nd coming of the Spectre. We know the Spectre was banned completely, with that being said, the shape it created was pretty unique in the line. The Revenant came into the line with HIGH expectations. I shot 300/800 with it, straight off the press! After that I failed to find a place for it in the bag. I was just never what I was looking for exactly. I changed surfaces on it a couple times taking it to 500 then step2. With no success. Later I tried 1000-3000 and Boom, there it was! It needs mentioned that I injured my foot and had to lay out a few weeks. When I came back, something about the Revenant called my name. It was exactly what I needed with my slower ball speed. This ball has the same cover/core as the Spectre although the Revenant has the new Reacta Gloss finish. For me the balls have rolled differently, and, on my Revenant, I had knocked off the shine to help the ball see the lane faster. Before knocking the shine off I did see the Revenant go much longer than the Spectre even at the same layouts. I did compare the Absolute and the Revenant in my video and as expected between these two balls I did find the Absolute longer and cleaner as the Revenant does try to dig into the lane faster and unless your house shot was a longer or higher volume, I see the Revenant to be more of a tournament ball with other options in the SPI line for a THS. Ball Specs: Storm Revenant Reacta Gloss R3S™ Pearl Reactive Weight Block: Vector™ Core (Symmetrical) Color: Amethyst/Black Review: We were so glad to see the remake of the Spectre with a new look and amazing smell. This ball really has some shelf appeal. The only real difference between the Spectre and the Revenant is the polish. With the Revenant having the Reacta Gloss finish you will probably notice just a touch more length if you got the chance to throw the Spectre. Our style: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). This is one of those pearls that really fits well as your first out of bag. Most times for us pearl covers work a little better later in a block. The R3S is so clean through the fronts that we really see some potential coming earlier or being that first out of bag bowling ball. Due to it being so clean through the fronts that will also create some versatility. After a few initial games we knocked the polish off the cover to see its full potential and it really impressed us. This will be a great ball for many players with its shelf appeal and ability to play different parts of the lane. The Storm Revenant is the replacement for the Spectre. It features the same Vector core with the R3S pearl reactive coverstock. The Revenant at 15lbs has a RG of 2.54 and a differential of .050. I drilled my Spectre pin down and it was a tad weaker than what I wanted so I drilled the Revenant 5 x 4 x 2 putting the pin above my middle finger. The ball reaction I got out of the Revenant was completely different than the Spectre. The Revenant, when it saw the dry made a tremendously strong move to the pocket. The Reacta gloss finish on this medium rg symmetrical ball made it incredibly clean through the front part of the lane and when it got off the pattern the ball just made a left turn to the pocket. The first game I threw with it I had 268 but I tripped 3 or 4 nine pins late. That just shows how much entry angle and continuation this ball had. I would recommend using the Revenant on flatter patterns, as the typical wet/dry house shot can create quite a bit of over under with this ball. Taking the polish off will quell the backend reaction a bit but this ball is still one designed to open up the lane. Definitely not the first ball out of the bag, but when the time comes to take it out, it will probably be the last ball you need for the night.

The new Revenant features the same R3S pearl reactive cover and Vector core as the Spectre, with the Reacta Gloss finish instead of 1500-grit polish. The Amethyst/Black color scheme is awesome and the Bear Claw scent smells great! I drilled the Revenant with the same layout as I had on my Spectre, and scuffed it lightly with a used 2000-grit Abralon pad just to knock some of the out-of-box shine off. The Revenant is clean and controllable with a well-defined continuous motion off the breakpoint. The Spectre, in comparison, was a bit stronger in the mid-lane and had a smoother transition throughout each of the 3 phases of ball motion from skid, hook, and roll. In terms of total hook, the Revenant and Spectre cover the same number of boards but do it in a slightly different way – the Revenant is just a touch cleaner and quicker off the breakpoint, while the Spectre was a bit stronger in the mid-lane with a rounder shape on the backend. So even though the Revenant isn’t a direct replacement of the Spectre for me, it is awfully close and still fills the same spot in my bowling bag. The Revenant is a great addition to the Storm lineup and will get a lot of play on medium to medium-low volume patterns or when you want to play a little closer to the oil line near the track. It’s already seen quite a bit of lane time, especially on older lane surfaces that have a fair amount of friction. For me, the Revenant fits right between the Fate and Night Road – when the Fate starts reading too early I can switch right into the Revenant, or if the lanes become beat up and I need to open my angles more I can switch from the Revenant to the Night Road. The Revenant is going to appeal to bowlers of all types, and especially those with slower ball speed or have a heavier hand, that are looking for a medium strength pearl ball that can clear the fronts and have a well-defined continuous downlane motion. Just like many others I was so bummed when I was told I could no longer throw my Spectre. Boy was I happy to see the news that we would be getting something very similar with the Revenant! This is my go to ball in leagues and tournaments. It is rare that I use a ball so equally in both settings. When I miss outside it still has enough energy to get back and at least make contact with the 1-3 and when I miss in it has amazing hold that I still never expect. I will definitely be stashing a few of these as love for a ball like this doesn't come along for me very often.

Layout: 5 x 3.5 x 2.5 Surface: Reacta Gloss Rev Rate: 470 Tilt: 8* Speed: 17mph The New Storm Revenant brings back the same core/coverstock combination from the recently USBC banned Spectre but with the new Reacta Gloss Finish. I found a very similar overall shape to the Spectre but with the Reacta Gloss Finish, I found the Revenant to be a slighty smoother shape overall. The higher RG value of 2.54 gives me a little too much length for my style on both the house and sport patterns. With my house pattern being 44ft, it is hard to be able to use a ball that gives a lot of length within a 3-game set. The Revenant will be a really good late game ball in a longer tournament format or where the lanes are hooking a lot more than I am used to in my current league environment. Comparing the Revenant to the brand-new Absolute, I saw about a 4 board weaker motion and significantly more length throughout the whole lane. In order to see closer ball motion, I changed the surface of the Revenant to 2000 abralon. This gave me stronger ball motion and earlier hook where I needed to see it. Depending on your style, the Revenant should allow you to stay in the same zone on the lane where you were using a stronger ball due to its overall length. Those with higher rev rates will definitely see a skid flip reaction that is generally desired. Those with lower rev rates might face a challenge seeing this one hook in the right part of the lane. A surface adjustment or buying the stronger Fate would likely be a better alternative.

The Revenant gives me a great look during league starting at 16-17 at the arrows with my breakpoint around 7-8. The Revenant will be an excellent ball to start with on lighter conditions and the second/third ball out of the bag on medium to heavy conditions as the lanes transition. Tournament bowlers will love how easily it clears the fronts and doesn’t jump too hard off the friction. Within my arsenal, it fits between my Fate and Night Road, but is cleaner and smoother than both. Once again the team up of the R3S pearl cover and the symmetric Vector core gives the bowler a new shape that fills and important gap. Design intent places it between a hyroad and a trend/fate type ball. The reacta gloss finish really gets this ball through the front so you can unleash the energy in the mids to backend. I tested the Revenant first on the long high volume house pattern at my home center. While the ball clears the front pretty effortlessly, it definitely has enough hook to use on the fresh. In fact throwing the ball up against the friction was a really good look. I think a lot of rev challenged bowlers who like to play up the outside but don't want to throw a lot of surface will really love this ball. Transitioning to throwing the ball more left to right was pretty seamless. The ball has great predictable motion and continues very well through the pins. Higher rev guys will love this ball in the transition. It gave me serious Marvel Pearl vibes in this part of the lane which is about as high a compliment as I can pay to a ball. When transitioning even further in when the lanes started to really burn up I did have to make some pretty substantial release changes. My lower ball speed did cause the ball to slow down a bit too much when I was trying to cover alot of boards out into the friction. Keeping it in play here for me required me to either trap the ball closer to the pocket down-lane or really rotate my hand around the side of the ball to delay the reaction and make it more angular off the spot. Both worked really well. I suspect that this problem won't translate much to the guys who have higher ball speeds. The only glaring difference that I noticed between the Revenant and what I remembered of my spectre is that the reacta gloss finish seems to make it a touch cleaner and it reads a little less reliably in heavy oil as a result. While the added length is a big plus for me, guys with more ball speed may want to take this ball back to the old 1500 polished finish. It's a simple fix but it seems to work wonders as this ball takes well to surface changes. The Revenant's intent is to provide a mid-range RG option which some bowlers feel may have been missing in recent months from the Storm line of bowling balls. In my opinion this ball with Reacta Gloss provides a slightly different shape from its predecessor but the ball is seeing the same success with testers so far. For me, I tested the Revenant on two different THS patterns. Scenario One: where alot of traffic took place and carry down was evident and Scenario Two: where the lanes were drying up after some higher average league bowlers finished up some practice. The Revenant performed pleasingly well within both situations. I went ahead and used the Revenant and also the Night Road at OOB to collect some data. For the drying lane scenario the Revenant was very clean yet not overly jumpy. I felt there was room to move both inside and outside without a cover change. For the carry down scenario, although not ideal, I could still use this ball. The Night Road was more sensitive to the conditions and slightly more limited. If I had more time I would have used some surface on the Night Road. The Revenant overall is a nice addition to the Storm line. I do feel the Reacta Gloss finish has a cleaner and more rounded shape on recent releases. To me, this makes for easy surface adjustments to the OOB finish to fit balls in the lower part of the arsenal. Definitely consider adding a Revenant to your line-up of balls.
