STORM EQUINOX HYBRID — BALL REVIEW The newest addition to the EquinoX family is here, and the Storm EquinoX Hybrid is a ball that I think a lot of bowlers are going to find themselves reaching for regularly. Storm set out to make this the most usable big ball in bowling, and after throwing it, I can see exactly what they were going for. The A2S Hybrid Coverstock blends solid and pearl components to give you a great combination of traction and continuation. What really stood out to me was how well the ball reads the middle of the lane without feeling like it burns up too early. It gives you that strong, confident motion through the pins while still maintaining enough energy downlane. The Solarion Asymmetric Core complements the cover perfectly. You get plenty of overall motion and continuation, but the EquinoX Hybrid doesn't feel overly aggressive or difficult to control. My take: If you're looking for a big ball that you can actually use on a variety of conditions, this one deserves a serious look. It's strong enough to handle oil, but versatile enough that I don't feel like I have to wait for the lanes to be perfect before pulling it out of the bag. This ball is amazing! I've been throwing it for about two weeks now and it has yet to disappoint. The Solarion + AI core gives the ball a nice skid-flip reaction which I love. The core paired with the A2S Hybrid cover makes this ball very controlled and predictable! Safe to say this one may be the next house shot killer!

Storm Equinox Hybrid Ball Specs: Solarion + A.I. core with A2S hybrid coverstock with box finish of 2000 grit with Power Edge with a layout of 3 x 5 x 2. My Specs: Left-handed with a rev rate in the 420’s, ball speed 15.3 to 15.8 mph off the hand, axis tilt of 16 degrees and axis rotation of 70 degrees, PAP is 3 13/16th up 1/8th. Tested on Pro-lane and HPL lane surfaces on a 44ft medium volume house pattern and 46ft PBA pattern. My take on the Storm Equinox Hybrid: After enjoying the prior two version of the Equinoxes, The OG and the solid version of the them, I was looking forward in getting the new hybrid into my hand last month, and I was quite impressed by how the ball worked for me in the transition time on the house pattern, but more so on the 45ft PBA pattern that we are using currently in my sport pattern league. Was able to use the Hybrid on HPL and Pro-Lane on the PBA pattern at different centers, I after starting with the Perfect Gem, the Equinox Hybrid was more stable for me than the Storm Bionic and the Roto Grip Transform Pearl with 2000 grit surface on it, but stronger than the Rocket A.I. with 2000 grit surface on with the Rockstar AMPED. I did notice also that a few other competitive bowlers were thinking the same way I was, by going to the Equinox Hybrid during the end of the second game and using it through the 3rd of league last night on the “other side” of the lane. I am still content to use my current house pattern league bag as it is, but I am 100% adding the Equinox Hybrid to the medium to long patterns tournament bags for the foreseeable future. My league bags for 2 different centers are: Rockstar, Rockstar AMPED at 2000 grit, Next Factor, Wicked Gremlin, Gremlin Tour-X, and a Platinum Mix at 500 grit. My medium to long pattern tournament bags will consist of: Wicked Gremlin #2, Bionic, Equinox Hybrid, Viking Conquest, Rocket A.I., Transform Pearl, with adding the Idol Cosmos and Perfect Gem as needed for medium length patterns. The Equinox Hybrid gives me a great combination of traction and continuation, and it may be the most useful and versatile Equinox yet. It reads the midlane consistently, handles a good amount of oil, and still gives me a strong, continuous move through the pins. I really like how many different situations I can use it in, whether I need to blend out the lane, move inside, or just find a reliable shape on a variety of conditions. It’s a dependable piece that gives me control, power, and versatility, making it an easy ball to keep in the bag.

Factory Finish: Power Edge Storm has taken the popular Equinox platform and gives us the new Storm Equinox Hybrid. This is the first Equinox for me to throw so I cannot give any comparisons to the previous Equinox balls. After throwing it, the first thing that stands out is just how usable this ball is. It gives me plenty of traction in the oil without sacrificing the energy and continuation. The backend is where the Equinox really shows up. The backend isn't simply "violent" for the sake of being violent but it is strong and continuous. When the ball gets to the breakpoint, it responds with authority and continues through the pins rather than simply making a sharp move and quitting. It's strong enough to get through the oil while still giving you options at the breakpoint. The biggest compliment I can give the Equinox Hybrid is it is a big ball that doesn't feel like you have to stop using it after the first transition. Diff.: 0.054 Finish: Power Edge Fragrance: Orange Creamsicle Storm’s new EquinoX Hybrid is a Hybrid Asymmetrical piece that is good for Medium Volume patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. I drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers, CG kicked out 1” from the palm, and 1” Left of the Mass Bias. 5 x 4 x 2 ½. I threw this piece on a Fresh house pattern. Out of Box ball motion was a little cleaner through the fronts with a strong backend reaction through the pins. I compared this to the Original Equinox and EquinoX Solid. Equinox is cleaner through the fronts with a hockey stick motion on the backend. EquinoX Solid starts earlier in the mids with a strong backend. This piece will be good for all types of styles. The Storm Equinox Hybrid features the Solarion AI Core wrapped around the A2S Hybrid Cover. I drilled mine 4 x 4.5 x 2, and after throwing this ball for a while, I absolutely love the motion and shape it creates! This ball is just as angular as the original Equinox, but still allows me to move inside and continue through the transition, much like the Solid. That combination gives me a ton of versatility and makes this ball incredibly easy to use throughout a session. I think the Equinox Hybrid will be an absolute staple in the bag for everyone. With a little surface, it can be great on the fresh, but as the lanes start to transition, it gives you the ability to get through the front part of the lane while still creating plenty of motion down lane.

The Equiniox Hybrid might honestly be my favorite Equinox out of the series. Not only does it have my favorite scent Orange Creamsicle, the ball is so clean through the front part of the lane and not too crazy on the backend of the pattern. I have been able to use this ball mainly for transition in game 2 and then using it fully game 3. Now when I subbed at one of the other centers in the area, I was able to use this ball for almost 3 full games. For me it seems to work well when there is a little bit more friction to the outside part of the lane. I can move right with more ball speed and this ball just drives through the pins.

The Equinox Hybrid is the newest addition and third installment to the Equinox line from Storm Products. This asymmetrical ball features the returning Solarion AI Core that was used in both the Equinox Pearl and Solid, topped with the A2S Hybrid Reactive Cover Stock, and finished with Power Edge Technology. The colors on this ball is also top notch in the nebula, flare, and void design, along with the fragrance of Orange Creamsicle. Built on the success of the first two balls, the Hybrid delivers more traction and backend motion bowlers are looking for. Ball layout: 50 x 5 x 35. I tested the Equinox Hybrid at my home center on a fresh league pattern at 42ft and compared it to both my Equinox Pearl and Solid. Fresh out of the box, I found the Hybrid to be a lot cleaner than the Pearl, with a sharper backend motion. The Solid, which I would find more suitable on fresher conditions and more volume, reads the mid lane earlier for a smoother backend reaction. The Equinox Hybrid can be a little tricky right out of the gate depending on the volume, as it can struggle to react down lane and carry the corners. I would find this ball to be more of a transitional option once the friction starts to open up and you have more room to play with. Overall, I would consider the Equinox Hybrid to be a great option for medium lane conditions and transition that would fit for a variety of bowling styles. The Storm Equinox Hybrid is exactly what I want from a hybrid bowling ball! It provides the perfect bridge between my solid and pearl equipment. Mine is drilled 45×5×40, a layout I use on many of my asymmetrical and symmetrical pearl balls, and the Equinox Hybrid gave me a very predictable reaction. Compared to a solid, it reads the lane a couple feet later, while still picking up a couple feet earlier than my pearls. This creates a fantastic middle-ground shape that is reliable off the spot without being too early or too responsive. Another great feature is how easily the reaction can be manipulated with surface or polish depending on what the lane is asking for. If you're looking for a versatile hybrid that truly fills the gap between your solids and pearls, the Equinox Hybrid is an excellent piece to have in the bag.

The A2S hybrid has the perfect blend of solid and pearl components to ensure traction in the oil, but still maintain energy downlane. Our league pattern can get tricky through transition and the EquinoX Hybrid did an excellent job blending it out and providing me with a more consistent reaction. When compared to the EquinoX Solid, the hybrid cleared the fronts better and provided a stronger change in direction off the end of the pattern. I struggled to use the solid in league because it picked up too early and I can see the hybrid being a great fit. In tournament play on medium/heavy to heavy lane conditions, I would start with the solid and when it starts to quit downlane, the hybrid will be the perfect ball to go to. Introducing the Equinox Hybrid, the third of its series. This ball has the same core as the Equinox Pearl and Solid, but this hybrid version makes the motion so user friendly. This ball is suitable for all house shots and is very versatile. The layout I have on mine is 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 x 2 (60 x 4 3/4 x 30 using the dual angle layout). I tested this ball in a different center and wanted to see how it will react. This motion gave me great length through the head with a nice continuous motion through the pins. Plus, it provided me some great recovery room missing both in and out. This motion is amazing and can’t wait to get another one with a pin down layout to compare with each other!
