Storm Concept Bowling Ball

(39 reviews) Write a Review

The Concept redefines how core and cover combinations tackle challenging lane conditions, delivering a level of control and consistency that reactive balls alone often can’t achieve. Its ARC™ Pearl Cover stock acts as both the engine and the tires, gripping the lane to create continuous, predictable motion through the pins while the Radius Weight Block keeps the ball on line without locking up. Designed for situations where bowlers traditionally reach for urethane, the Concept shines on short patterns or flat, demanding conditions—anywhere you need a smooth, controlled reaction rather than a sharp backend hook. The Concept maintains consistent motion across the lane, carrying through the pins for strong, lively action. Designed as a two-piece ball with a thick resin shell, the 14 thru 16lbs combine the smooth, predictable qualities of urethane with the versatility and driving power bowlers expect from a modern reactive ball.

Don’t just take our word for it—watch the Concept in action and see how it delivers urethane-style motion with unmatched consistency, control, and confidence.

As most of us know, there’s been a huge demand for Urethane equipment in with today’s conditions. There’s also been significant rule changes for using those types of balls in competition. The newest addition to that conversation is the Concept from Storm. The way the rules read now, the Concept can be used anywhere around the world and in any type of tournament. I’ve drilled two so far and really like it. In 15lbs, the RG is 2.61 and the differential is .020 which tells us, this ball likely won’t flare much and is designed to be extremely stable along with predictability. The first one I drilled very similarly to the Urethane balls I had the most success with (Pitch Black and Fast Pitch). The layout is 3 x 4 x 1. This is a very tall pin with the CG just under my ring finger. The second one I drilled is more of a traditional layout coming out to 5 x 3.5 x 3. This puts the pin above my ring finger with a slight kick of the CG. Both balls provide different motions. The one with the 1” buffer tends to be more forward down-lane where the one with the 3” buffer is a bit more forward. I’ve left the surfaces alone, but have had success with using them on all types of patterns and surfaces. The Concept is so much different than anything else in the line that I think it should be in league and tournament players’ bags moving forward. All styles and rev rates can find success with the Concept. Go drill one! #StormNation

I might not ever throw urethane again. Concept acts like urethane, but it absorbs oil. It makes the lanes BETTER if you use it right. It’s legal everywhere. Ball gets better the more oil it absorbs because it smooths out even more. It’s the best “control” ball I’ve ever had. It gives me all the control but it hits better than any other “urethane type” ball I’ve ever thrown. I drilled one normal and I drilled one super strong and they’re both really good! Concept is in the same vein as the Level, which was sort of a urethane alternative/ultimate medium control ball. They've achieved this with a low differential, urethane-style light bulb core that has a higher RG, but they've replaced a urethane cover with something that absorbs oil at a really high rate versus urethane, which doesn't really absorb oil at all. I've thrown this ball a little bit in competition and I've also filmed my review where I threw several shots. The review is on the burn. I was geared up in speed a good bit, but live-fire in league, I've been able to throw this really straight in front of me on fresh, and also on an over/under condition, I was able to use it across the pattern with slower ball speed to blend them out. It's one of those balls that I can be really aggressive with my hand and it just mid lanes and rounds off. It doesn't do anything crazy. It really does capture that ultimate control ball motion in a way more versatile package for me than typical urethane. If you're a big urethane user but your usability window is short, or the footprint of urethane really makes the lanes unplayable for you, then Concept is a great way to break down the lanes more effectively and still have an ultimate control shape in your hand. -Chase Valenzuela

Ball: Storm Concept WWRD: 2/27/26 Fragrance: Blueberry Fritter Layout: 45 x 4 x 20 Surface: OOB Review: The Concept is a ball that can be used for many conditions. Short oil, flat patterns, and even taming high friction surfaces. This ball is 100% reactive but gives off a urethane type motion. Testing Conditions: Burned up THS and Stone Street Oil Pattern. On the Burned up THS shot, it was on wood lanes. This ball was able to get the length I needed, make the turn and continue through the pins. It did not overhook and maintained a smooth continuous motion. On the Stone Street, this ball was ideal for playing the extreme outside. When it found oil for me, it labored. That is understandable because this ball performance best on lots of friction. I throw 14lbs with 250-300 rpm at 14mph, and I was able to get this ball jump off the spot very easily. The other thing I noticed is there was absolutely no "urethane" type push because this ball absorbs oil as it is reactive. The one thing I also noticed, if I miss it at the bottom it's still picks up the lane and reacts. Recommend use: Flat patterns, short patterns, high friction, and when you want to blend the over/under. When the IQ tour solid is too much, ball down to this! This ball will be carried everywhere I go because it is so versatile and can handle extreme conditions with ease.

You want something different? Then here it is. Storm is not only changing, but trying to make bowling better for all bowlers. There is very very little oil that comes back on this ball after throwing it. But when the lanes get tuff, or you want a little different reaction...Here you go. It reads the front part of the lane very well. It hooks, but doesn't over react. It's great for those wet/dry conditions, tournament conditions for a ball you can bowl, watch this ball, read its reaction and have fun with it. For me, I left it pretty much out of the box, added a little lane shine after throwing it a few games. It actually stays the way it is after a little lane shine and I like it better that way. One word to describe it...is different, there is nothing like it. You thought urethane was different for different lane conditions? This ball is a little better!

PAP 5” Over 1/2 up Rev Rate 300. Tilt 20. Rotation 50. Speed at cameras 15.5 Review: The new Storm Concept is something totally different. This ball has the control of a urethane but with more hook potential. Best part is that the Concept is totally legal in competition! I did not expect as much hook and hit as I am getting with this ball. The Concept goes through the pins very well. When I get into the oil the ball does straighten out a good bit for me, but my higher rev friends to not seem to have an issue with that like I do. The Concept absorbs oil fast but will lane shine after a while. The ball is very early and smooth in motion and seems to always want to hook. It took me a while to get a hold of the look on the lane but the more I use this ball the more I like it. I am not sure how often I will use this ball, but it should find a place on shorter, flatter difficult patterns. The Concept has been selling very well at the shops and at the distributors so if you want one, I would grab one now. This may be a great ball for Nationals. I put total hook above my IQ 78D and IQ Tour Navy. Summary: The Storm Concept is a very controllable ball. The Concept has good hit and drives through the pocket hard. This ball is a great option to all the Urethane nonsense. Glenn Wendel Sidewinders Pro Shop Storm Pro Shop Staff gwendel@comcast.net www.stormbowling.com

Ball Specs: Concept Review: Gemini said The Storm Concept is the latest innovation from the SPI Lab series, specifically engineered to provide "urethane-like" control within a high-performance reactive package. It features the brand-new Radius™ symmetric core, which utilizes a high RG of 2.61 and an exceptionally low differential of .020 to produce a stable, non-flaring motion that keeps the ball "on line" without the sharp backend jerk typical of reactive resin. To ensure it still digs into the oil, Storm paired this conservative core with the aggressive ARC Pearl coverstock their fastest-absorbing shell to date finished at a dull 1000-grit Abralon. This unique combination allows the Concept to excel on short patterns and flat sport conditions where precision is paramount, offering the smooth, predictable shape of urethane but with the superior pin carry and "driving" power of a two-piece reactive ball. I compared the Concept to my Iq Tour 78/U Urethane ball and i found the Concept to be a little cleaner with more shape downlane but still allowed me to use it like urethane and still have alot of control. I also noticed the Concept had better hitting power than my urethnae options. The concept is going to be a great option on shorter oil patterns or when your trying to control the backends.

LEGAL Everywhere! The Storm Concept is very unique and a ball that I am extremely excited to have in my bag. This ball features the new ARC Pearl reactive coverstock paired with the Radius symmetrical core, coming in with a high RG 2.61 and very low differential 0.020, which gives it low flare and a super controlled shape, all wrapped in a 1000-grit finish that helps it read early without being jumpy. For me, this ball is all about control and confidence—it's basically that urethane-like motion but with way more hit and continuation. It gets through the fronts clean, reads the midlane smoothly, and never feels like it’s going to overreact or quit, which is huge on flatter or tougher patterns. I’ve found I can play a little straighter with it and just trust it to stay online and blend the lane, especially when reactive starts getting too quick or inconsistent. It’s not a ball I’m grabbing for big shape, but when I need something to control the pocket and keep things in front of me, the Concept is one of the most reliable pieces I’ve thrown. A new player to the urethane-like category. I drilled mine 4x4x1. With my ball speed being 15.5 and revs landing right around 350-375 I’m confident this ball is controllable for me. Whether I’m on a fresh house shot or a challenging sport pattern, I know I can trust it. I’ve even been able to stow in and slow my speed down to get some shape. The super fast cover and slow core allow me the control I need!

Storm Concept - SPI Lab Line Coverstock: ARC Pearl - 1000 Grit Core: Radius™ RG: 2. 61 Differential: . 020 Fragrance: Blueberry Fritter The Storm Concept has the strongest cover Storm has ever made, wrapped around one of the weakest cores Storm has ever made. With this mixture it gives the ball a very controlled reaction. I was looking to this ball more for sport patterns than house shots. What I have come to find out is that it is great on both. On house shots I can throw this ball usually the first 2 games and it creates all kinds of room. It rolls so smoothly off the friction and does not overreact. With the strong cover, it still is able to hook in oil in the middle part of lane. The thing that surprised me the most about this ball was the carry of corner pins. So many times where I thought it was coming in a little flat, it would still snap out the corners. Also trying it on a couple sport patterns, I feel like where this ball really shines. Where I would try the IQ 78 and it just was not quite enough, or would get lazy, the Concept would just power through. I was able to create some area that I just did not have with anything else. This will definitely need to be a ball in everyone’s tournament bag.

The Concept, with its all-new Radius weight block and oil-absorbing ARC Pearl Reactive coverstock, offers a great new alternative for the vast majority of bowlers. Further, if you are a straighter player like me, the Concept can bring a new dimension to your game. So, let’s take a closer look at the success of the all-new Storm Concept! The Radius weight block is a uniquely simple-designed block to go along with the ARC Pearl Reactive coverstock. The Radius has a familiar shape we have come to love, like the predictability of a Roto Grip Hustle, so that bowlers can rely on the smoothness of the Radius Weight Block. However, the major difference I see is that the ARC Pearl Reactive Coverstock allows the Radius Weight Block to retain a lot of energy as it heads down the lane, and, surprisingly, as a straighter low-rev player, I found the Radius Weight Block explodes through the pins like a huge symmetric core. I was impressed by the power and the strong constitution I saw in the Concept. So, don’t let the size or shape of the Radius Weight Block fool you, as I found it to be a perfect match for the ARC Pearl Reactive Coverstock. Let’s look at the heart of the Concept’s success, the ARC Pearl Reactive Coverstock. This all-new SPI Lab coverstock design is a brilliant, creative offering that opens up a world of opportunities for any straighter, low-rev player! I like how the ARC Pearl grips the lanes without being overly aggressive like a Solid coverstock, or overly sensitive like a Pearl coverstock. Further, I liked how the ARC Pearl coverstock blends through the mid-section and is predictable off the pattern. Lastly, I like how the ARC Pearl coverstock actually gave the Radius core more time to rev up without burning up too quickly, allowing the Concept to be remarkably strong at impact even when you are light off your hand. One exceptional caveat I found to the ARC Pearl Reactive coverstock is its adaptability to different lane uses and conditions. As a straighter, low-rev player, I consider the surface of the ball to be an integral part of my game. And with the ARC Pearl reactive coverstock on the Concept, I loved being able to adjust its surface to meet any of my THS needs. From 4000-grit Abralon and playing up the five board, to 1000-grit Abralon and being able to move well into the third arrow and have enough power to strike, tells you how diverse the Concept can be, and still deliver! In closing, the all-new SPI Lab Concept is an excellent new release from Storm. The combination of the Radius Weight Block and ARC Pearl reactive coverstock makes the Concept an excellent choice to add to any player’s arsenal. Straighter players like me will find the Concept is an excellent choice to keep us in play across various oil conditions, especially against those high-rev players who tear up the lane! The Storm Concept is the latest addition to the ongoing tournament series collection and is also the next installment of the Lab Series. This ball features the brand-new Radius Weight Block, along with the Arc Pearl Reactive Cover Stock. It complements the Storm Level, which I had some success with during certain tournaments contested on lower volume patterns, along with my IQ78. As a big fan of playing the urethane game, I was excited to hear about the introduction of what the Concept can do in terms of ball motion and shape down lane. Ball layout: 50 x 4.5 x 35. I tested the Concept a few times on my 42ft league house shot, and on 37ft PBA Webb. What is amazing about this ball is the fact that although it isn’t urethane, it has a urethane-like shape but stronger. It’s very clean, very smooth, doesn’t flare as much, and doesn’t overreact at any point down lane. The ARC Cover stock blends so well the front part of the lane, the Radius Weight block keeps the ball in play with a smooth continuous motion down lane. Both my Level and IQ78 tend to pick up earlier down lane, whereas with the Concept, I can get the ball down the lane further with no early reaction, something I’ve been needing in my bag for quite some time, especially on tournament conditions. The Concept will also work great on a variety of lane conditions, depending on surface adjustments, and what you see on the lanes in terms of volume and mL’s. I would highly recommend the Concept be in your bag if the urethane game isn’t working and you are looking to level up. Be sure to drill one up from your local Storm VIP Pro Shop. The Concept is a must have!!

Layout: 4 x 5 1/2 x 1 Surface: 1000 Abralon Rev Rate: 470 Grit Tilt: 13* The new Concept is the next iteration of the Storm Lab Series. It includes brand new technology from both the core and coverstock. The new Radius core brings a very unique combination of core numbers that is not found typically in a stronger resin ball. The RG of 2.61 and differential of 0.020 is normally found in entry level resin type balls. The brand-new Arc pearl coverstock is extremely strong compared to typical coverstocks but creates a very nice and smooth arc with great continuation. I tested this on my typical house pattern. My lane surface although newer, has a lot of earlier friction on it. On the fresh, I saw pretty early hook but saw continuation through the pins. Unfortunately, with the added friction, the continuation lasted for about 5 shots before it became too early and smooth leaving the 2-4-5 from the ball losing energy. As I moved into the middle part of the lane and more head oil, I saw the good continuation again. I did have to get softer with my speed in order to see the hook from left to right. At the box surface, unless there is a lot head oil, this will get tough to use for a long period of time. As a result, I wanted to add Power Edge polish to see what the difference would be. As expected, I saw a lot more length and no issue getting through the front of the lane. However, the continuation became less as it did not slow down in the backend as much as being dull. I was able to move about 5 boards right and be much more up the lane to get to the pocket consistently. When I was close to the dry enough, I was able to have great carry. The only pit fall I had was when I missed right into the friction early. It would read the friction super quickly. As I moved in to the middle part of the lane, I saw too much length initially with the Power Edge. Once I softened my speed, it gave me great continuation again and gave me area left to right on the lane. I think for normal lane surfaces, the Concept will be better at a duller finish. I would likely change my surface to 3000 instead of power edge to get a little more midlane roll so I would not have to reduce my speed as much. Compared to the level, I found it to be slightly cleaner and much more off the spot. It wasn't quite as lazy as the level was for me especially throwing it left to right. I would recommend the Concept to someone who wants to have ultimate control on the fresh with some decent continuation that won't have to worry about the ball over hooking a lot. I would also recommend this to someone who loves the urethane balls but wants to upgrade above a Pitch Black or something comparable. The Concept is also legal for all levels of play due to it being resin and not urethane. The concept in my opinion would have more usage on tough lane conditions over house conditions. My opinion is that there are better ball options that are more true resin based for house conditions. For tough conditions, this ball will come with me on a wide variety of lengths. I think it takes surface changes well and the high absorption rate stops it from lane shining as fast as typical resin balls.

Storm Concept: Ball specs: Radius weightblock with ARC pearl coverstock finished at 1000 grit. Layout: 4 ¼ x 3 3/16 x 3 ¼. Welcome to the next Lab series release: the all new Storm Concept. The Concept is all new from the inside out. The Radius weight block allows the ball to be manufactured with a weight block then wrapped in coverstock material which eliminates the need for filler material, that provides better durability of the cover because there is more cover to absorb the conditioner. Since starting to use the Concept, the BIGGEST difference between the LeveL and the Concept is that the overall reaction is stronger on the friction and holds more energy when hitting the pins. Where the LeveL has early motion and a real smooth reaction in the backend, almost urethane like entry into the pins, The Concept is stronger, and a ton more angle entering the pins. The cover did absorb the conditioner very quickly and the excess to wipe off between shots was very minimal. Now, I will clarify this is not a “benchmark” ball for me, BUT, it will replace my weaker drilled Hustle Earth and LeveL in my bags because it takes the place of both balls for me. Make sure you catch up with the Storm Concept and other new releases at the Matchmakers coming to your area soon. • What a Concept

Posted by Darren Wong on Mar 7th 2026

For the longest time, we’ve been asking when Storm will release a urethane or urethane like ball with the universal success of the Pitch Black. The IQ 78U has done very well, but it is clearly earlier and doesn’t do much downlane. That red ball works well on the fresh when the backends need to be controlled. But for me as a one hander with medium rev rate, I really couldn’t open up my angles at all with the IQ 78U and by the end of game one I needed something with more downlane motion. Looks like Storm has done it. Coming out of their SPI Lab is the Concept. It’s not urethane, but it’s urethane like motion. They took the strongest, fastest absorbing reactive coverstock, ARC, and pearlized it so it won’t be too early. The ARC Pearl (1000 abralon out of the box) grips the lane to get the ball to slow down like urethane. That cover is wrapped around the very low dynamic Radius core (for 15-16 lbs balls). That core is high rg (2.61) so it won’t start too early given the massive strength of the cover. And, it is only 0.020 dif, so it won’t flare much making it a very controllable, but continuous motion (not get forward too quick). It also means layouts really don’t dramatically change the ball motion. The end result is a controllable, predictable motion that is urethane like, but does allow more open angles. For players who don’t have 500 rev rate, it gives them something to go to after the IQ 78 runs out of gas before being forced into true reactives. The Concept is an innovative idea which achieves exactly what it was intended to do- give urethane-like motion that bridges the gap between urethane and reactive. Storm even reduced the # of logos on the Concept in response to feedback from bowlers that the ball hopping over the labels as it rolls down the lane caused inconsistency in ball reaction. Once again, Storm proving why they are The Bowlers’ Company. I drilled mine 4 x 4 x 2 (4” pin to PAP, up 2” from the vertical axis line (VAL)). So far, I’ve only thrown it on a house pattern where it’s a little over under, but that’s not what the Concept is made for. It’s part of Storm’s new Tournament Series- balls intended for flatter, tournament patterns. I can’t wait to throw it on PBA regional patterns this season. The early returns from the PBA tour have been nothing but positive. Every high level player who bowls tournaments should have this ball in their bag.

The Concept is SPI’s latest addition to the Lab Series. The Concept features the brand new ARC Pearl cover wrapped around the low diff radius weight block. • The Storm Concept - a new take on the "urethane but not urethane" reaction

Posted by Jeff Piroozshad on Mar 4th 2026

The Storm Concept is an interesting ball. It has the strongest cover Storm has ever made, wrapped around one of the weakest cores Storm has ever made. The result is a control ball that covers a much wider spectrum than you'd think. For lower rev players, it can be a urethane replacement for situations when you need urethane, but you don't have enough hand to make urethane work. For higher rev players, it can be a very good transition ball between urethane and reactive, but with a little surface, it's a viable urethane replacement on medium length Sport patterns - places where urethane won't hook enough but a normal reactive ball does too much. If you're a tournament player, you should definitely take a look at what this ball may be able to open up for you. Storm hit the money with this ball! When it was first announced I was a little skeptical on how using a super strong, fast absorbing cover, on a very high RG, low Diff, core would work. Needing a non-urethane bowling ball for the upcoming collegiate post season, I ordered one hoping for the best. I loved that one so much I just got a second one a few days ago. The first one I drilled was 4 x 4 x 3 2LS. It is great for being able to play straighter and looks amazing on all lengths of patterns. I was really surprised with how good it looks on longer patterns. The second one I went 5 x 4 x -2 VLS. This one hooks a ton! I wanted to drill another to be able to get deep with and it really does the job. It's crazy how versatile this ball is with the layouts you can put on it! Highly recommend this one!

To be honest I am not one who likes urethane bowling balls for a couple reasons but I am one of those bowlers who doesn’t like to wipe off my bowling ball in-between shots. I personally struggle more on shorter patterns so you would think Id have a purpose for urethane. Well this Concept was basically the exact ball I needed. Its not urethane but urethane like and the weak core strong cover combination allows me to attack this part of my arsenal I never could before unless I used wrist position manipulation which can be difficult to repeat on tougher conditions. The Concept gives me a urethane type shape but cleaner yet controlled. I can use this ball on various conditions but when I have shorter patterns with my ball reaction being to quick with other balls I can switch to the Concept and be in my comfort zone! Also the best part is the oil absorption rate is amazing. I don’t have to worry about wiping the ball off in between shots. I highly recommend this ball to many bowlers especially rev dominate players! This is a must have for every tournament Bowler! Great job STORM! Storm Staffer Go Get It!!!!!!!

This one is a very interesting, novel concept (heh). Storm developed a new cover called ARC. This is a cover which mimics Urethane motion but is reactive. In fact it features the fastest oil absorption of any cover storm has used. This strong cover creates so much motion so early that it necessitated a weaker core inside. If you thought it was impossible for a ball with a .020 differential to give you so much early read this ball will teach you otherwise. I tested the Concept on a condition that usually weeds out urethane shapes pretty quickly. Our house pattern when it goes through transition usually makes urethane balls unusable pretty quickly. Our pattern is long but the front of the lane opens up faster than the back because of friction thats built into the front panels. So the early balls get too early pretty quickly and when you force them through the front they don't retain the energy to go through the pins. I had better luck in this aspect with the previous Lab line release The Level. I had high hopes for the Concept to be an improvement on what I saw. The ball did immediately give me the same issues that urethane always has. Covering any amount of boards on this particular surface the ball lost energy pretty quickly. It wasn't an automatic 10 pin or worse the way urethane is, it was 50/50 on carrying shots from this angle. That's about what my level did. I did notice that this had a unique shape compared to the level. It did seem to both read sooner and give a little more motion in the back-end. I think this is because despite reading sooner than the level, it didn't get forward quite as fast, keeping a bit more of a round motion. When I moved a little right and upped the speed I really liked what I saw. With actual thane I couldn't do this in the transition because there was no way to force it through the front with my ball speed and all the friction to the right of this pattern. Not only could I used the Concept here, it gave me much more area than I expected when I did. This gave me a great indication of what I've heard from the guys who have tested this ball on the conditions you usually match urethane with, this ball is a good transition piece because it continues better than traditional urethane when you have to play angles with the friction. I think this one is going to be a hot ticket for people bowling on tournament conditions, and for power players and lefties on pretty much everything.
