Roto Grip X-Cell Bowling Ball

There is no denying that CELL™ is one of the most iconic names in terms of bowling balls. From day one, the Nucleus™ block design provided game-changing performance and forgiveness for all bowlers no matter their style or abilities. SO, we thought why not take one of the greatest of all time and make it even better!

Our new X-CELL™ unlocks greater levels of performance and forgiveness thanks to A.I. Core Technology and the new eTrax™ ULTRA coverstock material. Some might say this ball provides forgiveness overload, we beg to differ. We like to think this is just the beginning of changing the game yet again.

As a huge fan of the cell line (original cell and cell pearl), I was excited to hear the return of one of the greatest ball series roto grip put on the map. With the returning nucleus core adding AI tech and the eTrax Ulta Solid cover stock, the Roto Grip X-Cell reminds me of the original cell, only with more versatility. I drilled mine at 45 x 4.5 x 30. Comparing it to my Harsh Reality as a high end solid, I found the X-cell to be smoother and more controllable midlane with backend motion, only less aggressive with my Harsh Reality finishing a lot stronger down lane and through the pins. Testing it against my Optimum Idol, I saw similar results with both balls reading the mid part of the lane smoothly, only the X-Cell finishing with a stronger, angular backend as it goes through the pins. This ball has reminded me of the good old days when I threw the original cell and cell pearl. I find the X-Cell to be a very versatile ball and would be best recommended for medium/heavier oil patterns, as well as a 1st ball out of the bag when it comes to bowling on a fresh league house shot. Be sure to drill one up at your local pro shop!! Thomas Coco (storm staffer)

Hey, and welcome back as we have a great one for you from Roto Grip! If you're a fan of these reviews, first and foremost, I want to thank you for watching and reading these reviews and videos and hope it gives you some information to take back when looking to get your next bowling ball. TESTING ENVIRONMENT Length:42 Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): Broken Down House Shot BALL: Roto Grip X-Cell Coverstock: : eTrax ULTRA Solid Core: : Nucleus + A.I. Finish: 2000 RG: 2.55 (14 Pounds) Differential: .048 (14 Pounds) MB/PSA: .16 (14 Pounds) ME: Right-Handed Tweener Speed: 14-15mph Rev Rate: 210 PAP: 4 7/8 right 5/8 up Ball Layout: 5X4X2 Pin Up Using a strong ball on a broken down house shot in the middle of the summer in the Midwest may not seem like the best option, but as you learn more when you don’t win or score well is when you learn more than when everything clicks. With that being said I had my eyes wide open to this ball as I have never thrown any of the Cell balls from the past so this was new to me. As expected, yes it's a big ball and was very responsive to the friction on the lane. This allowed me to move left into parts of the lane I don't get too much due to the lower rev rate. It was not the ball for burn but as you will see in the videos I move around the lane and even give it a touch of loft. This tells me on a fresh pattern there will be length as the ball will go through all phases of ball motion. Looking forward to getting back on to the lanes with this and the upcoming release from SPI. Till then I will be getting ready for two weeks in Detroit for the USBC Junior Gold Tournament. • The Cell is RE-BORN

Posted by Rick Mitchell on Jul 7th 2024

Roto Grip X-Cell Coverstock: e-Trax ULTRA Solid Reactive Core: Nucleus + A.I. Core Finish: 2000 Abralon – also for 50ft. pattern I finished it with 4000 Abralon Layout: 5 x 6 x 4 Hear me out... The Cell line has been RE-BORN with the all-new X-Cell for 2024 and beyond. With the addition of the A.I. technology onto the Nucleus core that brought the new Roto Grip back to the top of performance bowling ball, the new Cell is still simply TRUSTWORTHY, CONSISTENCE, and packs a ton of VERSATILITY built-in to it. I tested and used it on 2 different patterns. A 44ft house pattern and a 50ft USBC sport pattern at ABC North Lanes and Lounge and what I found was that the X-Cell works on a variety of patterns with just a minor surface change from 2000Ab on the house pattern to 4000Ab on the 50ft USBC pattern. I was able to ball up from my Attention Star and Lighting Blackout on the house pattern to open-up my angles and use the heavy oil in the front of the pattern and allow the X-Cell travel to outside of the target markers to get around any traffic I see on my side of the lane, was able to stay in the X-Cell a lot longer than when I use my Attention Star and Lighting Backout when starting in league. On 50ft pattern, I started with My Magic Gem, Harsh Reality, and squared way UP with my X-Ray, and then I switched over the X-Cell and it was better down lane and an overall better and more consistent reaction over the course of the 90 minutes (about 1 and a half hours) I practiced on the pattern. I was quite worn-out afterwards but was pleased with the outcome of the practice session. The X-Cell will be placing the Magic Gem and Harsh Reality in my arsenal because it covers the best of those 2 balls. My summer bags consist of: Roto Grip X-Ray, Storm Tropical Surge solid, Lighting Blackout, Icon Pro, Attention Star and the X-Cell. Stop by your local pro shop to see what the all-new Roto Grip X-Cell is all about. Visit my YouTube page and watch my ball review video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yViJUfES-P8

Those looking for their next large asym solid, look no further than the X-Cell. Designed for heavy oil conditions the X-Cell will dig it's footprint deep into the lane to find hook on those higher volume conditions. Not as smooth as a Gem although provides plenty of mid lane read and continuation when battling freshly oiled conditions. This ball will be great for either sport or house conditions when there is ton of head oil and or tighter lane conditions.

Layout: 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2 Surface: 2000 Abralon Rev Rate: 470 RPM The New X-Cell brings back the iconic Nucleus Core from the original Cell series while adding in the AI Core technology. The coverstock is the brand new E-Trax Ultra Solid which is a steppingstone between E-Trax and E-Trax + coverstocks. I got the chance to try this out on a 47ft, medium oil volume sport pattern. What I saw was what you would typically expect in a higher end solid bowling ball, strong midlane and backend motion. Comparing this to the Gem, I saw cleaner overall motion where the X-Cell got to the midlane pretty easily and it had a more angular backend. The Gem was still overall stronger, earlier rolling and smoother overall which allows both balls potentially in an arsenal. Compared to an Optimum Idol, I saw more overall strength as expected while it still wasn't as smooth. I got a little more angular ball motion then the complete controllability of the Optimum Idol. I was able to move about 8-10 boards left of my starting spot before the Cell became too early and slow responsive. I was able to ball down to an Attention Star and continue to strike from the same zone on the lanes. I recommend this ball to someone looking for a heavier oil/fresh ball on higher friction or older lane surfaces as it is cleaner than the Gem. The asymmetry of the core gives this ball a lot of flair potential which will be able to handle most fresh conditions. Adam Chase Storm Staff

Dual Angle Layout: 40 x 4 ¼ x 75 Storm Vector Layout: 4 ¼ x 3 ¾ x 4 The new Roto Grip X-Cell reminds me a lot of the Storm Absolute Power. It is cleaner through the front of the lanes than most Assym Solids, and still picks up nicely in the mid lane, but due to the fact it’s cleaner it still has plenty of energy through the pins. This ball will be really good for anyone who has lower rev rate or higher ball speed on your typical house shots. For anyone who loved the original Cell this ball will provide that nostalgia you’re looking for. Comparison video with the Harsh Reality: https://youtu.be/1ScTMt-1dAI?si=XteKXQsArRvFFAGR

The X Cell is the latest HP4 line ball from Roto Grip and brings back the famous Cell name. The Nucleus Core now features AI Tech and is wrapped around the eTrax Ultra Solid cover stock. Now I drilled my X Cell with a little different layout than I normally do because I was looking for it to do a specific thing, 4 x 4.5 x 2.5. I brought my Harsh Reality to test against it and I was quite shocked on the motion it made. Even with the stronger drilling in it, it was able to get down the lane with ease and the continuation it gives is incredible. It seems like the ball just struck from anywhere. I believe this ball is going to bridge the gap when the bigger asymmetric solids are just a little too much and the stronger symmetrical solids aren’t quite enough. Lower rev rate players will also love the strength this ball gives them without worrying about how it goes through the pins.

Orientation: Right Handed Rev Rate: 400 RPM Speed: 16-17 MPH PAP: 4 ½ over and 1 1/8 up Location: Enterprise Park Lanes, Springfield MO Pattern: High Volume THS VLS Layout: Layout 1: 4 5/8 x 4 x 2 ½ (Pin above bridge) Layout 2: 4 ¼ x 4 x 4 (pin below bridge) The X-Cell is simple. Take an OG Cell, add AI. Boom, clean continuous monster hook! The Cells always continued more than other asyms and the X-Cell takes that to the next level! They hook early and NEVER seem to quick. The X-Cell is going to take the place of all the bigger solid asyms because it is so much more dynamic on the back. I can see using this much longer in a block because it does maintain it’s axis longer. The X-Cell is a great choice for a solid aysm!

The Roto Grip X-Cell brings back the famed Nucleus core with AI technology to unlock greater levels of performance and forgiveness. Roto Grip has also developed the new eTrax Ultra solid cover stock around the Nucleus AI Core, which gives me the versatility to play multiple lines on medium and heavy oil patterns. I drilled my X-Cell pin up, which enables the ball to roll through the fronts with a lot of energy coming off the break point and going through pins. I tested this ball on 43 feet typical house pattern. As a mid to low rev player, I see this ball being my first choice on medium to heavy oil patterns. This is a great ball for all levels of bowlers. TESTING ENVIRONMENT Length:43 Volume:Med-High Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):THS 12:1 Ratio BALL: Coverstock: : eTrax™ ULTRA Solid Core: : NUCLEUS™ + A.I. CORE Finish: 2000 Abralon RG: 2.50 (15lb) Differential: .056 (15 lb) ME: Right-Handed Tweener Speed: 12-13 mph Rev Rate: 315 Axis Tilt: 14° Axis Rotation: 74° PAP: 5 1/8 R 7/8 Up Ball Layout: Pin Up 5 1/2 X 4 1/2 X 2 1/2 VLS The ball that put Roto Grip on the fore-front of high performance bowling balls is back. The legendary cell line with the powerful Assymetric Nucleus block was for many the best HP ball every released by Roto Grip. The GOAT is back with AI technology in the form of the new X-Cell. To compliment the legendary core it has been wrapped in a powerful and responsive eTrax Ultra cover. This cover gives you more length than Micro-Trax but a bit more mid-lane dig than ETrax Plus. The result is a consistant, versatile and trustworthy ball-motion to overpower the lanes. I tested the X-Cell in my home center on a fresh lane that had sat for a bit before I got to it. I lined up around 20 with my feet Looking to push the ball from around 15 to 7 and watched the ball see the spot and go and go and go. I immediately made about a 7 board move left with my feet and opened the angle. I still needed to keep the speed up but my next shot easily covered the increased distance and pushed the rack back into the pit. My biggest astonishment was how easily I managed to get the ball past the front panel (lots of built in friction here) without it wanting to bleed all it's energy off right away. For a ball that gives such a great mid-lane read this ball really retains energy well, making it strong it pretty much every phase. I tested it again in league a few days later, expecting to see a reduction in initial hook as I wasn't sure how much the oil had changed from sitting so long before I had gotten to it on the previous occasion. Surprisingly there was only a couple board difference and by the end of practice I was right back where I had been the last time. The lanes have been tight as of late particularly down-lane but my X-Cell never had the chance to bog down in the Out of Bounds outside down-lane because it had no problems reading the right part of the lane to already be hooking by it. I would recommend this ball to literally anyone. It's more than powerful enough for rev-challenged bowlers and if I can get it down-lane it shouldn't be too much for anyone who is speed-challenged or rev dominant. This is a top of the bag option that everyone will be happy with. Drilled this piece with the Pin above the bridge, CG kicked out 1” from the palm, and the Mass Bias ½” Right of the Thumb. I threw this piece on a Fresh house 43’ pattern. Out of box ball motion was it started early in the mids with a strong continuous backend. I compared this piece to the Clone (4-4 Right). This piece fits between Clone and Tour Dynam-X.
