There is no denying that CELL™ is one of the most iconic names in terms of bowling balls. From day one, the Nucleus™ block design provided game-changing performance and forgiveness for all bowlers no matter their style or abilities. SO, we thought why not take one of the greatest of all time and make it even better!
Our new X-CELL™ unlocks greater levels of performance and forgiveness thanks to A.I. Core Technology and the new eTrax™ ULTRA coverstock material. Some might say this ball provides forgiveness overload, we beg to differ. We like to think this is just the beginning of changing the game yet again.

Roto Grip Xcell Ball Review
Hello everyone and welcome to another Beyond the Arrows Ball Reviews brought to you by Striking Results Pro Shop, Bowlifi and Turbo 2 n 1 Grips, today we will be reviewing the new Roto Grip Xcell. The Xcell has a low/medium RG value of 2.50 which means it will rev up early in the mids and a high differential of 0.056 and a high intermediate differential of 0.019 resulting with a big flare potential in the backend. The Xcell features the Nucleus core being wrapped in the Amplified Inertia outer core. The Nucleus A.I. Core elevates the low RG/high differential asymmetric combination, enhancing ball dynamics and significantly boosting pin carry. This advanced outer core smooths out the backend reaction without over-reacting. In addition, the Xcell features the brand new Etrax Ultra coverstock, which gives you as a bowler an ULTRA versatile, ULTRA responsive and overall, just ULTRA predictable ball motion. I did a ball comparison to the Roto Grip Gem and 900 Global Eternity Pi on a 42 ft house shot, 25 ml of oil. In comparison to the Roto Grip Gem, the Xcell is smoother and is more continuous off the spot where the Gem is earlier and corners more off the spot. In comparison to the Eternity Pi, I found that both balls are just as smooth through the mids but the Xcell is a little more off the spot in the backend and with the addition of AI carries more off hits. As per the surface adjustments, the Xcell comes out of box 2000 Abralon and for me that’s the optimal surface. On heavy oil the optimum surface would be a 500 Abralon but since this ball is very smooth the mids and to jumpy on the backends the Xcell is very versatile to surface adjustments. In the bag, will be the Roto Grip Gem, Roto Grip Xcell, HRP, Phaze AI and Storm DNA Coil. Roto Grip X-Cell
The new release in the Roto Grip HP4 line is the RG X-Cell. To me this the ball that back in the day that put Roto Grip on the map! Huge successful bowling ball back in 2008. Probably the Cell and Haywire has been my 2 favorites of all time for RG. 2024 the team added A.I. technology and a new modern day cover. Man is the ball just good! I drilled mine pin down 4.5 x 4 x 4.5 added a little step 2. Same predictable roll, not too early and good arcing shape down lane. But the X-Cell Roll is just different than other Asymmetrical solids. This ball roll just carries extremely well for me. Whether it is on house or sport patterns the X-cell is very versatile. Its my top Asymmetrical benchmark ball in my arsenal. Its below the Absolute Power and Ion Max. But stronger than the Phaze 2 or Idols. Great bowling ball period. Roto Grip X-Cell Ball Review by PJ Haggerty
If you’ve kept up with bowling in the last 15 years or so, you’d likely remember the Cell made by Roto Grip. It was an extremely popular and successful ball that featured the Nucleus weight block that was widely used. Our masterminds in Utah decided to upgrade the core and coverstock, giving us an A.I. core as well as the new eTrax Ultra cover. They’ve hit a home run. With an RG of 2.50, differential of .056, and PSA of .019, the X-Cell is designed to flare a bunch and never stop trucking. I’ve drilled two so far and have had a ton of success with both. The first one is mapped out as 6 x 4.5 x 2. This puts the pin above my middle and mass bias right next to my thumb. This is my late-game-in-block ball where I need to create shape and angle. The second one is mapped as 4 x 3 x 4 and this has the pin below my ring finger along with more surface. This is designed to be more forward and used earlier in blocks. I’m a huge fan and this ball goes with me everywhere I go. If you need a ball that’s had a proven history of success that’s been upgraded to todays game, go drill an X-Cell from Roto Grip!

The X-Cell is beyond a 2.0 version; instead, the X-Cell is a combination of the proven core of old - the Nucleus, then put inside the latest power in the modern game - A.I. technology and wrapped with the smoothest Solid coverstock to date -eTrax Ultra Solid Reactive - making the Roto Grip X-Cell the next generation of success from Roto Grip. So, let's take a closer look at what makes the X-Cell an excellent choice for your arsenal! The Nucleus Core has always been proven to be smooth and forgiving. Now, with the added A.I. Core technology around the Nucleus, you have the next generation of striking power in your hands! I liked how the Nucleus + A.I. Core maintained a smooth consistency in the mid-lane without being too overly aggressive, as that would cause my X-Cell to stand up too early and run out as it goes through the pin deck. So, straighter players will enjoy the forgiveness of the Nucleus +A.I. Core brings, especially when you are too "hot" off your hand. As a lower-rev player, I also liked how the Nucleus +A.I. Core generated a smooth and predictable yet decisive motion coming off the pattern. That type of predictability and forgiveness allows me to relax my swing, creating a much more repeatable release for my low-rev hand! Lastly, the A.I. outer core simply strikes the pocket with the power and authority we straighter, low-rev players need in the modern game! So, other than having a bit less continuation, I would have liked to see from my X-Cell—the Nucleus +A.I. Core is a strong, smooth, rolling core that provides significant forgiveness to any straighter player's game. The eTrax Ultra Solid reactive coverstock is a strong added cover to the X Cell. However, on a fresh THS, I found the 2000-grit Abralon surface to be a bit too lazy for my straighter game. So, I brought the surface of the eTrax Ultra Solid Reactive Cover up to 4000-grit Abralon, and I found my X-Cell to be a lot more responsive to my low-rev hand. I liked how the X-Cell had a clean motion through the mid-lane with the 4000-grit surface change. Further, I enjoyed how the eTrax Ultra Solid reactive cover had a crisp bite coming off the pattern, creating the angularity I was looking for. My X-Cell had a modest continuation but still carried quite well on lighter hits and maintained a good amount of energy going off the deck. I found the eTrax Ultra Solid reactive cover can create a lot of forgiveness for straighter players. And eTrax Ultra Solid has excellent adaptability. So, I highly suggest getting the most out of your X-Cell by tweaking its surface to fit your game and the specific conditions you need it to perform. That way, the eTrax Ultra Solid will undoubtedly bring the results you are looking for. In conclusion, Roto Grip has done an excellent job designing the X-Cell. And I found the combination of Nucleus +A.I. Core and eTrax Ultra Solid reactive cover makes the X-Cell a strong, forgiving ball that will fit any straighter, low-rev player's game. And because the X-Cell will adapt nicely to either a fresh THS or medium to long pattern, the X-Cell will produce the forgiving results you can rely on to keep you in your match. x-Cell ball review
One of the latest additions to the roto product line is the Roto Grip X-Cell. A spin on the original Cell, the X-Cell uses an updated cover stock E Track Ultra along with AI technology. I have always been a big fan of the Cell line. For this ball I used the layout of 45x4.5x50 the Cell is reads the mid lane and is much stronger down lane my Gem and allows me to open up the pattern more. This is a great choice for someone looking to add that big ball for the higher volume of oil.

The X-Cell features the iconic Nucleus asymmetric core with A.I. core technology which promotes a quick revving motion and helps to increase pin carry. All of that is wrapped with the new eTrax ULTRA solid coverstock which will provide strong mid-lane reaction with impressive backend motion without sacrificing control on medium-oily lane conditions. I’ve been able to throw the X-Cell for a few weeks now, and this ball is built for consistency and predictability. It excels on medium to higher volume oil patterns and provides a continuous motion along the entire lane from front to back. However, unlike stronger balls such as the Gem or Magic Gem, the X-Cell doesn’t burn up too quickly and it retains enough energy to still have a strong yet predictable motion on the backend. By comparison, the Attention Star or TNT Infused would be another step down from the X-Cell for when you need something to clear the front part of the lane when they start to burn up. The X-Cell is highly versatile as well, so with the right surface prep (4000-grit Abralon or a bit of Reacta Gloss) it could be use on lighter oil volumes or high-friction lane surfaces. The Roto Grip X-Cell is a strong, reliable option for a wide range of bowlers looking for a ball to deliver consistent reaction from shot to shot without compromising power. It should also appeal to everyone that’s a fan of the Cell line as the X-Cell lives up to the legacy of previous generations. Chris Pollentier Storm Pro Shop Staff #StormNation #SquadRG

Xcell Review by Kyle, Joel, & Dean Johnson
Roto Grip X-Cell Coverstock: 2000 Grit eTrax™ ULTRA Solid Reactive Weight Block: Nucleus™ A.I. Core (Asymmetrical) Color: Turqouise/Navy/Black Review: The cell line returns! If you were waiting to see if this ball was going to be like one of those bad sequel movies that totally flopped then sorry but you’re wrong and very late to the party. This ball with AI core looks even better than the original. Very smooth, very predictable, and does not need to see dry parts of the lane to hook. Our style: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). The cell line is a staple that really put Roto Grip on the map and they hit a home run with this release. This ball looks good on fresh house shots but better and more versatile playing multiple lines on longer sport patterns where you have more volume. Some houses with built in friction may not have enough hold on a house shot for this hook monster. If you are looking for that big solid piece, or a replacement for say a Gem or DNA, this is the one. Roto Grip - X-Cell
The X-Cell is the continuation to a very successful line of bowling balls from Roto Grip. The X-Cell features Nucleus weightblock paired with A.I. Core technology and eTrax Ultra coverstock. The original Cell was a great bowling ball for me, so X-Cell has big shoes to fill. Knowing how much flare potential this core has, I drilled my X-Cell with my typical pin-down layout in hopes to slightly reduce the amount of flare: 55 x 5 x 75. My first few games with the X-Cell gave me some mixed feelings as the bowling ball forced me to move left quicker than I wanted and once I “chased” it left, it was too ‘forward’. With the out-of-box surface, the X-Cell needs a slick lane surface or a high-volume oil pattern to match-up better. I found the X-Cell to roll much better for me once I brought the surface up to about 4000-grit and even some polish on top of that. The ball then stayed on-line a little bit easier and was responsive enough to allow me to move further left. The X-Cell with out-of-box surface will most likely work great on majority of “house” patterns as the characteristics of this bowling ball compliment the wet/dry lane conditions. On the contrary, I think the X-Cell is a very good option to have when bowling on some flatter patterns where bowlers need a little more down-lane control. With some fine-tuning of the surface of the X-Cell, this bowling ball can be a good all-around strong asymmetrical option for majority of bowlers.

The Cell Line is Back
THE AYSYMETRICAL SOLID for EVERYONE! Does not matter the bowler, If your looking for a ball for heavy volumes of oil this is the one for you. This ball is a continuous asymmetric solid that is very continuous off the pattern. It does not roll out and leave those nasty 10 pins that these type of big balls are accustomed to leaving. It’s a ball you can play all angles with and exactly what we are use to seeing in the Cell Line!

HAND: LEFT (ONE HANDED) PAP: 4 3/8 OVER / 1/16 UP BALL SPEED: 16MPH REV RATE: 420 AXIS TILT: 20 AXIS ROTATION: 50 LAYOUT: 60X5X40 The brand-new X-Cell features the nucleus core with A.I. technology and the E-Trax Ultra cover stock. This ball was designed to be earlier and slower responding to friction versus the Attention Star and cleaner versus the Gem or Magic Gem. For me this ball fits exactly in between my Gem and Attention Star, the X-Cell for me will come out more often on the medium patterns as for the longer patterns the Gem is still the ball I like to use. For me the X-Cell has a very similar shape to the Attention Star but is better on fresher conditions with the solid cover versus the pearl cover. I chose to keep the cover at 2,000 but I like to freshen it up more often than some of the other balls to make sure it doesn’t overlap my Attention Star too much. Like I said above the X-Cell for me will be better on the medium length patterns (40-42 feet). Players looking to have a cleaner solid option for transition or players with less rev rate on the house shot will benefit from having this ball in the bag

X-CELL Bowling Ball Review
I drilled up my X-CELL with pin under layout of 4 x 5 x 3 layout that I use for pin under layouts. I have tweaked the surface at 2000 to a light 3000. The X-CELL was laid out with control in mind. I wanted a ball to use when the volume was higher or the pattern longer but also with clean/fresh backends. The pin under layout on the X-CELL gives this one a smoother transition to the dryer end of the pattern so it doesn't boomerang off the spot. I put this one up against some of my bigger balls that I use on longer/higher volume patterns. Compared to the HARSH REALITY, the X-Cell is a smoother transition from wet to dry. The HARSH really digs in compared to the X-CELL and is much closer to the GEM than the X-CELL. Compared to my GEM, the X-Cell is a good compliment as it reads the friction slower and is a good ball down with the light 3000 on it. I may drill another X-CELL with a pin up layout to see how much closer it gets to the early and predictable read of the original GEM. Put this one in your bag if you are wanting to put a bigger reliable strong piece that is not super early but is more ball than your big pearls. This is also a good one to put in between your HARSH REALITY or GEM and ATTENTION STAR.

Great solid league ball
The Roto Grip X Cell brings back memories from the OG Cell from the early 2000s. I really enjoy rolling the X Cell on fresh lanes and sport shots. The layout is 4 x 4 x 2 which is an overall strong drilling. For house shots it’s surprisingly controllable to where I can use it almost all 3 games by just moving a lil bit. With it being a Cell ball it does have its personality of smoothness and predictability but it also has a very strong almost like a flip back end for it being a solid cover which I really like to give me some help if I miss left. On the kegel sphinx pattern it came in very handy during transition when the Roto Grip Magic Gem was giving me over/under and needed to go with something that was able to allow me to stay inside and get through the oil with enough back end to go through the pocket. If you have something like a Roto Grip Gem or Exotic Gem the X Cell is a good step down if you wanna stay in a big ball and just need a different shape and look down lane. For the Roto Grip line the X Cell to me can be very versatile for all types of players and situations. #SquadRG Garrett Richardson Storm Amateur Staff IG: @grich_bowling

XCell
Ben Lapointe PAP: 4 7/8 over and 1 1/4 up Layout: 65 x 4 x 75 The new Roto Grip XCell is a great addition to the top of the bag. My previous big asym was the Magic Gem. For me, I find this XCell gives me a little more control off the end of the pattern, whereas the Magic was a little more defined down lane, while both chug and grab the friction very early. This XCell is the first out of the bag on most medium patterns, as well as shorter patterns when there is too much oil to the gutter for urethane. I think this piece will be great for a long time. Besides, any ball with "Cell" in the name has been great!!

X-Cell
This ball is strong! I drilled the new roto grip X-Cell 5x4x2 to give me a reaction to play the lane at a straighter angle. The Nucleus weightblock updated with the new Ai technology gives all the bowlers the strength, forgiveness, and scores they could hope for. Throwing this ball reminds me of the Roto Grip Gem. Compared to the gem, the X-cell reads the lane a few feet later than the gem. The eTrax Ultra cover read the front of the lane nicely with enough energy from the amped up nucleus-Ai core to finish strong through the pins. This ball fits the ball 1 category in a tournament bag. This will be the first ball im using in a tournament!

X-Cell
Ball Specs: X-Cell Color: Turquoise/Navy/Black Coverstock: eTrax Ultra Solid Reactive Core: Nucleus AI Factory Finish: 2000 Grit Review: The Roto Grip X-Cell is a high-performance bowling ball designed to deliver powerful and consistent results on the lanes, particularly in medium to heavy oil conditions. Known for its strong mid-lane read and impressive backend motion, the X-Cell stands out as a reliable choice for bowlers looking to tackle challenging lane conditions with confidence. One of the key performance aspects of the X-Cell is its ability to handle heavy oil without sacrificing backend reaction. The ball's surface texture allows it to grip the lane early, creating a smooth yet strong arc that continues through the pins. This makes the X-Cell particularly effective on fresh oil patterns where control and traction are critical. For bowlers who enjoy making surface adjustments, the X-Cell responds well to changes in grit, allowing for fine-tuning of its reaction based on the specific conditions of the day. This adaptability makes it a valuable addition to any arsenal, especially for those who frequently encounter different lane conditions. Whether you need a ball that can handle fresh oil patterns or one that provides reliable performance throughout a long league session, the X-Cell is a versatile and dependable option. Its eye-catching design and powerful performance make it a standout in the Roto Grip lineup, offering bowlers the confidence they need to tackle any lane condition with success. X-Cell
The new Roto Grip X-Cell features the return of the hugely successful Nucleus core and adds the A.I. core technology. The coverstock is the all new ETrax Ultra solid coverstock. At 15 pounds the X-Cell has a low RG of 2.50, a differential of .056, and an intermediate differential of .019. Drilled with my usual pin above the middle finger drilling, this ball is an instant favorite for heavier oil conditions. The original Cell back in the day, read the lane very early and did not have much of a backend motion. The new X-Cell does not pick up as early and has a very strong backend motion, not just for an asymmetric ball, but for any ball. This allows me to use this ball much more than the original ever did. The X-Cell is great for playing straighter on the heavy oil conditions, but as the pattern breaks down, I can open my angles and send the ball away from the pocket and still have it recover with a good entry angle through the pins. This ball is a must have for the serious tournament bowler.

X-Cell
The Roto Grip X-Cell is a powerful addition to the Roto Grip lineup, bringing back the iconic Nucleus core with a modern twist. This ball is designed for those who need a strong, reliable reaction on heavier oil patterns. The eTrax Ultra Solid Reactive coverstock, finished at 2000 grit Abralon, delivers a smooth yet strong motion that excels in mid-lane read and continuation. Unlike some of the more aggressive, early-hooking balls, the X-Cell offers a balanced shape that doesn’t burn up too quickly, allowing for a continuous and hard-hitting backend reaction. Comparatively, the X-Cell stands out as a versatile option that fits well between more specialized balls in the Roto Grip lineup, like the TNT Infused or the Optimum Idol. It provides a stronger overall motion than the Attention Star, while being more predictable and controllable than the Magic Gem. For bowlers who appreciate the legacy of the original Cell but are looking for something that matches up well with today’s lane conditions, the X-Cell is a solid, dependable choice.

Roto Grip X-Cell Layout: 5.0 x 5.0 x 1 Storm Pin Buffer Layout Rev Rate: 325 rpm, 7 degree of axis tilt, 40 degree of axis rotation Testing information: 41 foot THS (medium to light volume) Bowling Center: Fulton Bowling Center Kegel Machine – Brunswick Anvilane Roto Grip X-Cell utilizes the e-Trax Ultra solid coverstock and the Nucleus weightblock + AI core. The X-Cell is a tank, meaning it wants to roll early (but not too early) and smooth backend motion. A great choice for heavier oil patterns with fresh backends. The visual effect is an Alpha Crux vibe, which is a good start. The on-the-lane performance is in the Eternity PI or Reality category. The new e-Trax Ultra coverstock has a R2S shape to it in this X-Cell. The X-cell seems to be gaining traction on the professional levels as indicated by its use at the recent Jonesboro Trio tournament, which normally means “good ball”. The X-Cell is not the strongest ball in terms of board coverage but will be able to handle heavy oil with fresh backends. I think the X-Cell is going to be a very versatile bowling ball. REBIRTH: RG X-Cell
LANE CONDITION Length: 41' Volume: Medium-Heavy Pattern: THS Layout: PIN UP 4 1/4 x 3 1/2 x 1 1/4 COMMENTS The Roto Grip X-Cell bowling ball is a standout addition to the Roto Grip lineup, bringing back the iconic Nucleus core from the original Cell series with some modern enhancements. Here's a detailed review: The X-Cell features the Nucleus + AI core, which provides a lower RG of 2.50, a total differential of 0.056, and an intermediate differential of 0.019. This design helps the ball maintain a strong and continuous motion on the lanes. It uses the eTrax ULTRA Solid Reactive coverstock, which is an upgrade from the original Cell’s Cytoplasmic Solid. Designed to handle today's oil patterns more effectively, the ball comes out of the box with a 2000 Abralon finish, making it suitable for medium-heavy oil conditions. Providing a strong back-end motion with excellent continuation for me it digs into the oil well, with plenty of recovery on the fresh conditions and as the lanes break down. It maintains its effectiveness without burning up too quickly when making the right adjustments. I compared to the Roto Grip Magic Gem and Storm Absolute Power the X-Cell offers a cleaner motion through the front part of the lane and a smoother backend. This makes it a versatile choice for various lane conditions. My Tweener style with a medium rev rate found the ball's mid-lane read, back-end reaction to be very reliable and aggressive without overreacting off the friction Strokers with a lower rev rate will appreciate the ball's ability to maintain energy through the pins, making it a solid choice for typical house shots. The Roto Grip X-Cell is a powerful and versatile bowling ball that caters to a wide range of bowlers. Its strong performance in heavy oil conditions, combined with its ability to adapt as lanes transition, makes it a valuable addition to any bowler's arsenal. Whether you're a cranker, tweener, or stroker, the X-Cell offers the performance and reliability needed to excel on the lanes. Strength with versatility
Roto Grip – X-Cell 14-pounds Layout 5 x 4 x 1.5 Style – stroker Ball Speed – 14–15 mph at pins Condition – house pattern - HPL surface Surface – box condition As I continue to fill out a 14-pound arsenal, this is one I wanted to look at. Drilled with the same layout as my Ion Pro, I wanted a stronger compliment. Ball looks chalky out of box given finish and colors. Concerned it was going to roll at my toes. It did not. Given the older, high friction surface, that I bowl on most of the time, the ball still cleared the fronts well. Heavy, controlled roll off the breakpoint with a nice continuation through the pins. For me, it was 3-5 stronger than the Ion Pro, depending upon how I’m trying to shape my shot. These two balls will complement each other well. The X-Cell will handle more oil and control the shot shape and then as they transition, I can go to the Ion Pro to get through the fronts and shape more down lane. The X-Cell will be as strong of a ball as I need for league without it burning up immediately given my slower ball speed. Once I get into the big balls they tend to roll out and don’t continue through the pins. This ball should appeal to a wide range of bowlers, and I’d highly recommend you give it a look if you’re in the market for something stronger than your typical solid, symmetrical, benchmark ball.

I did not see much of the A.I. pin bounce with this ball as I do in others but the X-Cell hit very good if I kept it in the oil or kept my speed up. The lanes I did most my testing on where a bit dryer than I would have liked for this ball but this showed how strong it could be. A buddy of mine was rolling his VIP X-Cell on the pair next to me that we polished with rough edge over box and the motion was still very strong but the ball was able to save more energy for the back end. I think a smoother sand and smooth edge polish would work very well for what we were testing on. As always don’t fear surface changes. Storm/Roto/Global family balls are great out of box but tune very easily to dial a reaction in. The X-cell has a very consistent motion and will be a trustworthy piece in heavy oil. I do feel this ball will need some oil especially up front to roll at its best. I would put this ball right up with the original Gem for total hook which puts it above basically everything else. I can see this being a great sport tournament ball or a ball that will help bowlers with higher speeds or lower rev rates. Summary: The Roto Grip X-Cell hooks, a lot. The consistent strong motion is comforting. If you are a Cell fan you should really like this ball.
