The OG Transformer was one of my favorite balls because of how clean it is. It’s a little stronger than an IQ Tour but it’s an asym. The Transform Pearl is a MUCH stronger pearl cover and goes in at the top of my bag as one of the strongest balls I own! The Transform Pearl feels much more like an Exotic Gem reboot, but with a little more pop downlane. The pearl cover gets it through the heads and gets it to jerk off the friction but since the cover is large you can use it to control the cover under too. It’s a great option for a ball one for house shots OR as a transition ball for speed dominant bowlers.

The Transformer pearl compliments the Transformer very well. Cleaner then the Transformer but more down lane. I really like this ball reaction on house patterns. The Transformer is a revulsionary design with that special core design.

Roto Grip Transform Pearl: Ball info: Morph-Wing core with MicroTrax pearl coverstock - factory finished with Storm Power Edge. For me, I like it at 4000 grit. Layout: 4 x 5 x 4. My Specs: Rev rate 420’s, ball speed 15.3 to 15.8 mph off the hand, axis tilt of 16 degrees and axis rotation of 70 degrees, PAP is 3 13/16th up 1/8th. Tested on Pro-lane and HPL lane surfaces on a 43ft medium volume house pattern and 44ft heavier volume house pattern. The Transform Pearl is the follow up to the very popular and very versatile ball the Transformer. Using the very innovative Morph-Wing core, @Roto_Schlem at Roto Grip added the proven MircoTrax pearl coverstock to the core. With that being said, here is what I thought and like about the new Roto Grip Transform. Since my ball of choice to start has been the Rockstar for nearly 2 years, I have found myself starting to like the Hyped Up! a little bit as my 2nd choice since being released. But when both of them are losing their “POP” downlane, I have been switching into the RST Hyperdrive Pearl or Gremlin Tour-X as my “transition” piece when I need to, but with some inconsistency on my behalf on being confident with my shot making ability. The Transform is creating a better length in the mid part of the lane and storing more energy then the Rockstar and Hyped UP!, but still giving me a strong reaction in the back part of the lane without overreacting like the other 2 choices I have used in the past. I feel part of the main reason is the layout of 4 x 5 x 4, which took a good bit of the morph wing out of the ball which helps to smooth the reaction down lane but not making it too “iffy” or losing too much power. I used it out of the box condition for a few games on a well used house pattern before changing the surface to 4000 grit and had a better feel and reaction with the Transform, it gave me a smidge earlier movement off of the transition area. Roto Grip Transform Coverstock: MicroTrax™ Pearl Reactive with Power Edge Core: Morph-Wing™ (Asymmetrical) Color: Red/Cherry/Shadow Review: There was a LOT of information on the original Transformer release so we hope you didn’t get lost in the sauce because this core design is definitely a game changer for SPI. This is the second cover formula on the first intentional shaped core with special drilling designed to change the dynamics of how the ball will react on the lanes. Our style: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). The big question is leave the wing or take the wing out? This really depends on what kind of shape you want. If an earlier, smoother motion throughout the lane is warranted, then you will likely drill out the wing. If you want a later, more continuous look through the pins, then you will likely want to leave the wing. This ball with the wing drilled out rolls a lot like an Exotic Gem. Big engine that is very forward rolling, especially with the nano-loaded coverstock. You can really manipulate the shape and blend patterns well. This ball with the wing in is very different and continuous. Like an Ion Max Pearl that is slightly more continuous. You really can tell the difference when that wing flips and that weight block drives through the pins. Roto Grip Transform Pearl – Ball Review Layout: Storm VLS 5 × 4 × 1 Style: Right-Handed Ball Speed: 16 mph Rev Rate: 300 RPM Axis Tilt: 16° Axis Rotation: 73.5° PAP: 5¼” over, 7/8” up Lane Condition: Typical 41’ House Shot The Roto Grip Transform Pearl has quickly become one of the most versatile transition pieces in my tournament and league arsenal. Drilled with a 5 × 4 × 1 Storm VLS layout, it gives me the ideal combination of easy length, a defined but controlled backend motion, and outstanding continuation through the pins. On a typical 41-foot house shot, the Transform Pearl clears the front of the lane effortlessly while maintaining enough midlane stability to prevent the over/under reaction that many pearl asymmetrics can produce. With my 300 RPM rev rate, 16 mph ball speed, 16° of axis tilt, and 73.5° of axis rotation, the ball stores plenty of energy before making a strong, continuous move through the breakpoint. The backend motion is best described as strong and continuous rather than sharp and sideways. The asymmetric core gives the ball enough stability to read the lane before changing direction, resulting in a predictable shape that blends wet/dry conditions exceptionally well. Even when I open my angles during transition, the Transform Pearl retains enough energy to drive through the 8-9 pin area and produce excellent carry. The 5 × 4 × 1 VLS layout complements my release perfectly. The longer pin-to-PAP distance promotes excellent energy retention, while the smaller VAL angle creates a quicker response to friction without becoming uncontrollable. I found I could stay aggressive with my target moves as the lanes broke down, knowing the ball would recover consistently while maintaining continuation through the deck. This is the ball I reach for once stronger solids begin reading too early but I still need a defined move downlane. Instead of sacrificing control for backend motion, the Transform Pearl delivers both. In the Bag Here’s where the Transform Pearl fits within my current SPI arsenal: Viking Conquest The Viking Conquest bridges the gap between heavy-oil solids and cleaner asymmetric pieces. It provides a strong midlane read with excellent continuation and is ideal when the Harsh Reality begins reading too early but I still need control in the oil. Transform Pearl This is my transition ball. As the fronts begin to hook and I need more length with a stronger move downlane, the Transform Pearl shines. It allows me to migrate left, open my angles, and continue creating entry angle without sacrificing predictability. On a typical 41-foot house shot, this is often the ball that stays in my hand the longest because it blends the transition so well. Roto Grip Hyped Up The Hyped Up gives me easier length and a smoother, more benchmark-type motion than the Transform Pearl. When the pattern gets drier or I need to square up and keep my angles in front of me, the Hyped Up becomes the better option. It offers excellent control while still providing enough recovery to carry from deeper inside lines. The Roto Grip Transformer introduced by Storm Products at the beginning of the year was an advance in core dynamics technology to manipulate ball motion utilizing a core shape with a morph wing which could be drilled in multiple ways to “transform” and dial in ball motion. The advancement in core design was great, but I felt the cover around the Morph-Wing in the original Transformer was maybe a little too weak (VR-1 solid). Roto Grip has released the Transform Pearl with a stronger coverstock- MicroTrax Pearl Reactive. Even though it’s pearl, the MicroTrax cover is stronger than VR-1 because it features nano-particles mixed evenly throughout the entire coverstock making it the most aggressive pearl material SPI manufactures. So I think this cover is a better match with the Morph-Wing Core. MicroTrax cover was on the RST-X1 (one of my personal favorites) and the Optimum Idol. As we learned with the original Transformer, the Morph-Wing Core RG is on the higher side at 2.51 for the 15# which also helps it clear the fronts. The diff is 0.051 and PSA dif is 0.015 which are both in the medium range. But what makes the core special are those wings. If you leave them in tact, it creates torque induced precession which essentially pulls the ball from right to left for a right hander. If you drill through the wing, then it removes that torque induced precession and acts like most other balls/cores. Since I want to take advantage of torque induced precession uniqueness offered by the Transform Pearl and because I use my thumb, I drilled mine to miss the wing (4 3/4 x 4 x 2). I haven’t had a chance to throw this one a lot, but I like what I see the couple times I’ve thrown it on a house pattern (shot 278 first game out of the box with it). It definitely continues down lane and drives through the pins which really helps my pin carry. The pearl cover with the nano-particles does provide that good combination of not reading too early so it has some free push, but it does not over-skid or hydroplane through the front. If you are looking for a middle of your bag ball, the Transform Pearl would be a great choice especially because you have options to achieve the desired ball motion. If you are looking for strong continuous downlane motion, leave the wing intact. If you want a smoother ball motion, hit the wing. I would definitely recommend that Transform Pearl and you should get it drilled by your local Storm VIP Pro Shop to ensure it’s laid out properly for what you want to achieve.

The new Roto Grip Transform... All I can say is WOW!! This ball rolls pretty good and looks really good going down the lane. A lot of back end for sure. Mine is drilled pin up, I liked how it rolled out of the box, after putting a few games on it, I decided to hit it with a 4000 pad just to get the ball to hook a little sooner and I liked it a little more. Don't be afraid to adjust your bowling ball surface to make it fit how you roll the ball, we are all different for sure. for me, It even reacted pretty good on the longer oil patterns as well, so its pretty versatile for sure. Straight up with some back end reaction, or playing a little deeper, yeah this ball will work for sure.

There’s one thing that our gurus in Utah continue to impress bowlers with… and that’s technology. When the original Transformer came out, the Morph-Wing core was introduced and it was something that’s never been seen before. It taught bowlers and pro shop operators how to change the physics of the core by drilling into the ‘wing’ or missing the ‘wing’ and how that could drastically change the way a ball rolls. I thought the original Transformer was excellent, and after throwing the Transform Pearl, I believe it’s just as good. With the new Transform, the core didn’t change, but the coverstock did. This ball features the MicroTrax coverstock which provides more length and more pop at the end of the pattern. I’ve drilled one so far and really like it. My goal was to use this after some of the earlier-reading balls have done their job (Vengeance, Viking Conquest, etc.) so I mapped this one out as 5.5 x 5 x 3. This puts the pin above my middle finger and the mass bias just to the right of my thumb. I haven’t touched the surface either. As expected, this ball isn’t necessarily something I’ll use on the fresh, but it’s definitely a ball I’ve transitioned into once the balls listed above have done what their supposed to do. Go drill one!

The new Roto Grip Transform Pearl features the same Morph Wing core from the Transformer but wraps it in the hugely successful Micro Trax pearl coverstock finished with Power Edge. At 15 pounds the Transform Pearl has an RG of 2.51 with a differential of .051 and an intermediate differential of .015. The Morph Wing core offers a lot of different reaction options depending on the drilling. I chose to keep the wing intact and not drill into it. The combination of the core and the Micor Trax pearl make this ball a huge success. The coverstock gets through the front part of the lane but really reads the midlane and very rarely, if ever, misses the spot at the breakpoint. Speaking of breakpoint, for an asymmetrical pearl, this ball has a very strong and continuous backend motion. I found this ball really blends out the wet/dry league pattern like a champ. The cover is strong enough to read in the oil and clean and responsive enough to recover on those errant shots that hit the dry too soon. With league season fast approaching, this is a ball all bowlers will want to add to their bag!

The Transform Pearl has been a great ball for me with the 4.5 × 4 × 2 layout. It gets through the front of the lane really clean and has a strong, smooth move when it finds friction. It's become one of my favorite balls for transition because it lets me open up my angles while still carrying the corners.

The Morph-Wing is uniquely designed; why not drill it that way to boost your game! The MicroTrax Pearl Coverstock has the potential to suit many bowling styles. However, I found that the MicroTrax Pearl took a bit of getting used to for my game. I loved how the MicroTrax grips in the mid-section of the lane with excellent biting traction, and the Transform Pearl certainly maintains a smooth roll throughout its motion down the lane. However, with my challenged rev rate and the factory Power Edge Finish, the Transform Pearl was a bit squirrely off the pattern on a fresh THS. Further, with the factory Power Edge Finish, as the night went on, my Transform was a bit too over-responsive to friction as it came off the pattern, making it a bit jumpy. So I decided to change the surface on my Transform to 2000-grit Abralon with a light Power Edge finish, and it gave my Transform a whole new look to fit my particular game! I found that with the correct surface for my straighter, low-rev hand, the Transform came alive. I had that smooth, gripping traction in the mid-lane I liked, and now I also had a clean, predictable motion off the pattern I could depend on, whether it was a fresh THS or the transitioning conditions I tend to see in late game two and beyond. So I would suggest taking the time to tweak the surface of your Transform Pearl to fit your game. Like the Morph-Wing, to make the most of your Transform, tweak the MicroTrax Pearl to fit your game and conditions. I believe it will certainly bring results. This core allows the ball driller to modify ball motion to a better degree by removing a specific part of the core or leaving it more intact. I decided to drill mine missing the top of the wing to enhance down lane reaction. The Transform Pearl is a great looking and great rolling ball! This ball is strong but very usable on various lane conditions. The Transform pearl easily gets down the lane without going past my break point and the back-end move is excellent. This ball hits hard and carries like a champ. Light hits throw pins around nicely which helps carry percent. Transform Pearl is stronger than my Viking but a bit weaker overall than my Harsh Reality Pearl. The Transform Pearl seems to roll later than my Harsh reality Pearl. The Transform Pearl has more back end than the Harsh. I see no reason to change the box surface of this ball. The Transform Pearl will be a great addition for the fall season. Summary: The Transform Pearl is easy through the front with a great move down lane. The entry angle of this ball enhances pin carry. I love the color of this ball and it looks great while it rolls. The layout is 4 3/4 x 4 1/2 x 4 (55 x 4 3/4 x 65 using the dual angle layout). This is the pearl version of the Transformer. It provides a great midlane motion, while providing amazing motion in the backend! I chose this pin down layout to keep my angles closer to me, but it allows me more miss room when I miss inside target and if I miss right from my target. Speed can definitely play a factor on ball motion. I enjoyed throwing this ball and will be taking it with me to leagues and tournaments! If you are looking for a ball motion like this, I highly recommend this Transform Pearl!

After spending some time with this ball, I can tell you it's quickly become one of my favorite options when the lanes start to transition. The first thing I noticed was just how clean it is through the front of the lane. I drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers, CG in the palm, and ½” above the Mass Bias. Just missing the Wing. 5 x 4 x 2. I threw this piece on a Fresh 42’ house pattern. Out of Box ball motion started in the mids with a sharp backend reaction through the pins. I compared this to the Transformer. Similar Layout but I drilled the Mass Bias 1” right of the thumb. I didn’t drill through the wing. It started a few feet earlier with a smother backend reaction. This piece will be good for all types of styles since you can either drill through the wing or away from it. Transform Pearl is a huge spin on the original Transformer! While the core remains the same, the coverstock on the TP is a huge step up in strength/hook potential. The result is an aggressive, somewhat blendy midlane move and a big tip down lane, all in a cover that is really hard to throw through the spot. This shell can handle oil really well, so I can also see this ball being great at blending out wet/dry conditions. I think my favorite spot to use this in is going to be when there's a little early friction but not a ton of free hook down lane. I know this ball will clear the front, but also get off the spot down lane. Even in live-fire so far, I've been able to hook this ball and stay firm and aggressive because i know it's gonna see it and come off of it down lane every time. This strong, dynamic pearl asym adds a whole new dimension to the SPI product line as well. Ion Max Pearl is a little smoother/tumblier, and Gremlin is a mile cleaner and a little sneazy across the cliff. Transform Pearl has quickly made my league bag. The Transform Pearl is Roto Grip’s newest addition to the HP5 line. It follows the versatility of its successor in the Transformer. The Morph-Wing Core returns, only this time, it’s paired with the MicroTrax Pearl Reactive Cover Stock designed with Nano technology. The results… more traction through the mid lane, more aggressive backend recovery, more versatile ball motion. Like the Transformer, drilling away from or into the Morph Wing Core will determine the proper ball motion bowlers would like to see fit in the Transform Pearl. I decided to drill away from the core, like with my Transformer, at 70 x 5 3/8 x 40. With the strength of the Nano based cover stock, this layout has given me more length, more aggressive but controllable backend. Testing it on my home center’s league pattern (42ft), and comparing it to my Transformer, I was pleased with the results. My Transformer (50 x 4 5/8 x 35) was a little weaker in length, resulting in a more angular ball motion. My Transform Pearl gave me better results, as it was cleaner and more responsive in the back part of the lane. I could move right with my feet navigating the inside part of the lane and the ball can still recover strong enough for great results. In my own opinion, I find the Transform Pearl to be a great upgrade from the RST Hyperdrive Pearl. I had a lot of success on longer patterns with the RST Hyperdrive Pearl and am hoping with its MicroTrax Nano based cover, the Transform Pearl will follow suite. Roto Grip has hit another home run with the Transform Pearl and would be a great fit into your bag when contesting on medium-heavy lane conditions.
