Roto Grip Transformer Pearl Bowling Ball

The new Roto Grip Transform Pearl features the same Morph Wing core from the Transformer but wraps it in the hugely successful Micro Trax pearl coverstock finished with Power Edge. At 15 pounds the Transform Pearl has an RG of 2.51 with a differential of .051 and an intermediate differential of .015. The Morph Wing core offers a lot of different reaction options depending on the drilling. I chose to keep the wing intact and not drill into it. The combination of the core and the Micor Trax pearl make this ball a huge success. The coverstock gets through the front part of the lane but really reads the midlane and very rarely, if ever, misses the spot at the breakpoint. Speaking of breakpoint, for an asymmetrical pearl, this ball has a very strong and continuous backend motion. I found this ball really blends out the wet/dry league pattern like a champ. The cover is strong enough to read in the oil and clean and responsive enough to recover on those errant shots that hit the dry too soon. With league season fast approaching, this is a ball all bowlers will want to add to their bag!

The Transform Pearl has been a great ball for me with the 4.5 × 4 × 2 layout. It gets through the front of the lane really clean and has a strong, smooth move when it finds friction. It's become one of my favorite balls for transition because it lets me open up my angles while still carrying the corners.

I drilled my Transform Pearl in the pin-up position and found it had an incredible amount of flare as it made its way down the lane. As a straighter bowler, that strong flare gave my slower-rev hand a much stronger, more powerful entry angle, bringing some tantalizing results through the pins. The Morph-Wing core stood up brilliantly for me when the Transform Pearl exited the pattern. That hard-rolling motion created not only a lot of swirling pin action but also a ferocious continuation to carry those light hits I tend to have. So, there is no doubt the Morph-Wing core will bring results. However, to get the most out of the Morph-Wing Core for your style of bowling, I highly suggest you talk with your Pro Shop operator in depth about where and how to manipulate the Wing to suit your game best. The Morph-Wing is uniquely designed; why not drill it that way to boost your game! The MicroTrax Pearl Coverstock has the potential to suit many bowling styles. However, I found that the MicroTrax Pearl took a bit of getting used to for my game. I loved how the MicroTrax grips in the mid-section of the lane with excellent biting traction, and the Transform Pearl certainly maintains a smooth roll throughout its motion down the lane. However, with my challenged rev rate and the factory Power Edge Finish, the Transform Pearl was a bit squirrely off the pattern on a fresh THS. Further, with the factory Power Edge Finish, as the night went on, my Transform was a bit too over-responsive to friction as it came off the pattern, making it a bit jumpy. So I decided to change the surface on my Transform to 2000-grit Abralon with a light Power Edge finish, and it gave my Transform a whole new look to fit my particular game! I found that with the correct surface for my straighter, low-rev hand, the Transform came alive. I had that smooth, gripping traction in the mid-lane I liked, and now I also had a clean, predictable motion off the pattern I could depend on, whether it was a fresh THS or the transitioning conditions I tend to see in late game two and beyond. So I would suggest taking the time to tweak the surface of your Transform Pearl to fit your game. Like the Morph-Wing, to make the most of your Transform, tweak the MicroTrax Pearl to fit your game and conditions. I believe it will certainly bring results. This core allows the ball driller to modify ball motion to a better degree by removing a specific part of the core or leaving it more intact. I decided to drill mine missing the top of the wing to enhance down lane reaction. The Transform Pearl is a great looking and great rolling ball! This ball is strong but very usable on various lane conditions. The Transform pearl easily gets down the lane without going past my break point and the back-end move is excellent. This ball hits hard and carries like a champ. Light hits throw pins around nicely which helps carry percent. Transform Pearl is stronger than my Viking but a bit weaker overall than my Harsh Reality Pearl. The Transform Pearl seems to roll later than my Harsh reality Pearl. The Transform Pearl has more back end than the Harsh. I see no reason to change the box surface of this ball. The Transform Pearl will be a great addition for the fall season. Summary: The Transform Pearl is easy through the front with a great move down lane. The entry angle of this ball enhances pin carry. I love the color of this ball and it looks great while it rolls. It glides easily through the front of the lane, stores energy exceptionally well, and makes a strong, continuous move off the breakpoint without being overly angular. When I need to create more angle on transition or open up the lane, the Transformer Pearl gives me the confidence to move left and trust that it will recover consistently and finish through the pocket.

The layout is 4 3/4 x 4 1/2 x 4 (55 x 4 3/4 x 65 using the dual angle layout). This is the pearl version of the Transformer. It provides a great midlane motion, while providing amazing motion in the backend! I chose this pin down layout to keep my angles closer to me, but it allows me more miss room when I miss inside target and if I miss right from my target. Speed can definitely play a factor on ball motion. I enjoyed throwing this ball and will be taking it with me to leagues and tournaments! The Roto Grip Transform Pearl has quickly become one of my favorite options when I need a stronger pearl reaction. Mine is drilled 45×5×30 with a PAP of 4 1/8" right and 7/8" up, and the ball does an incredible job of getting through the front part of the lane while maintaining the strong, continuous motion you'd expect from an asymmetrical weight block. It has easily become the strongest pearl-covered ball I've thrown in the Storm family, making it an outstanding choice on house conditions or whenever stronger solids begin to read too early. What's going on, everyone? Today we're taking a look at the brand-new Roto Grip Transform. After spending some time with this ball, I can tell you it's quickly become one of my favorite options when the lanes start to transition. The first thing I noticed was just how clean it is through the front of the lane. It gets through the heads with ease, doesn't burn up a bunch of energy early, and then makes a really strong, continuous move once it sees friction. It's not one of those balls that's going to snap off the spot and leave you guessing. Instead, it gives you a very predictable motion that just keeps driving through the pins. For me, this is the ball I'm reaching for when my stronger solid starts reading too early. As soon as I have to move in and create a little more angle, the Transform gives me exactly what I'm looking for. I can open up the lane, trust that it's going to recover, and still see that continuation all the way through the deck. What really impressed me was the forgiveness. If I missed a little inside, the ball still picked up and made the corner. If I got it to the friction a touch early, it didn't jump sideways. It stayed smooth, stayed controllable, and still finished with plenty of energy. That's what makes this ball so versatile. Coverstock: MicroTrax Pearl Reactive Weight Block: Morph-Wing Core RG: 2.51 RG. Diff.: 0.051 Finish: Power Edge Roto Grip’s new Transform Pearl is a Pearl Asymmetrical piece that is good for Medium Volume patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. I drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers, CG in the palm, and ½” above the Mass Bias. Just missing the Wing. 5 x 4 x 2. I threw this piece on a Fresh 42’ house pattern. Out of Box ball motion started in the mids with a sharp backend reaction through the pins. I compared this to the Transformer. Similar Layout but I drilled the Mass Bias 1” right of the thumb. I didn’t drill through the wing. It started a few feet earlier with a smother backend reaction. This piece will be good for all types of styles since you can either drill through the wing or away from it. Transform Pearl is a huge spin on the original Transformer! While the core remains the same, the coverstock on the TP is a huge step up in strength/hook potential. The result is an aggressive, somewhat blendy midlane move and a big tip down lane, all in a cover that is really hard to throw through the spot. This shell can handle oil really well, so I can also see this ball being great at blending out wet/dry conditions. I think my favorite spot to use this in is going to be when there's a little early friction but not a ton of free hook down lane. I know this ball will clear the front, but also get off the spot down lane. Even in live-fire so far, I've been able to hook this ball and stay firm and aggressive because i know it's gonna see it and come off of it down lane every time. This strong, dynamic pearl asym adds a whole new dimension to the SPI product line as well. Ion Max Pearl is a little smoother/tumblier, and Gremlin is a mile cleaner and a little sneazy across the cliff. Transform Pearl has quickly made my league bag. The Transform Pearl is Roto Grip’s newest addition to the HP5 line. It follows the versatility of its successor in the Transformer. The Morph-Wing Core returns, only this time, it’s paired with the MicroTrax Pearl Reactive Cover Stock designed with Nano technology. The results… more traction through the mid lane, more aggressive backend recovery, more versatile ball motion. Like the Transformer, drilling away from or into the Morph Wing Core will determine the proper ball motion bowlers would like to see fit in the Transform Pearl. I decided to drill away from the core, like with my Transformer, at 70 x 5 3/8 x 40. With the strength of the Nano based cover stock, this layout has given me more length, more aggressive but controllable backend. Testing it on my home center’s league pattern (42ft), and comparing it to my Transformer, I was pleased with the results. My Transformer (50 x 4 5/8 x 35) was a little weaker in length, resulting in a more angular ball motion. My Transform Pearl gave me better results, as it was cleaner and more responsive in the back part of the lane. I could move right with my feet navigating the inside part of the lane and the ball can still recover strong enough for great results. In my own opinion, I find the Transform Pearl to be a great upgrade from the RST Hyperdrive Pearl. I had a lot of success on longer patterns with the RST Hyperdrive Pearl and am hoping with its MicroTrax Nano based cover, the Transform Pearl will follow suite. Roto Grip has hit another home run with the Transform Pearl and would be a great fit into your bag when contesting on medium-heavy lane conditions. For the Transform Pearl, I decided to drill into the wing which I didn’t do on the original Transformer. The one main thing I have noticed with mine compared to some others is drilling into the wing gives this ball a really smooth shape with a good amount of length. I have been able to use this ball when the outsides are really dry. The ball is still able to get down the lane with a good amount of movement through the pins. Now for some of my customers that I didn’t drill into the wing, this ball has a ton of backend motion compared to most asymmetrical pearls out there. These balls have a different dynamic to them and really do give the pro shop operators a handful of options for their customers.

Right Hand - 15.5 mph down lane, 335 +/-, PAP 4.75, 1/2 up. House shot at Bowlero Edmond. Layout 5x4x2 Roto Grip is once again featuring the innovative Morph-Wing with the asymmetric core but with a Pearl Reactive coverstock with nano-particles. This ball has a combination of customization, versatility, and continuation. The Transform rolled great on the medium/heavy fresh house shot. The layout allowed me the drilling to miss the Morph-Wing. However, you can drill this ball to your favorite layouts and it will work absolutely fine! Also, the colorway is on fire and looks like it on fore going downtown the lane! I feel this ball is best for bowlers looking for strong benchmark pearl and a ball for the competitive tournament bowlers that are looking for a something when the lanes begin to transition. I did roll this on a sport shot and I noticed this ball blended the wet/dry without sacrificing any recovery. The only downside I could see was that this ball may be too strong for lighter oil conditions and slower speeds. Overall, the tunable core is back! The length is clean and dependable on the latter part of the midlane and then it continues driving through the deck. This will be a go to ball once stronger solids begin to flatten and lose energy. I tested the Transform Pearl on our House Pattern after a session of senior league. The Transformer made a believer out of me when it comes to the extra progression created by the Morph-Wing core. When the ball shape looked like it was smoothing out to the eye, the Transformer would keep coming through the pins. The Transform keeps this characteristic with a different shape. The microTrax definitely gets the two closer together which I think is an advantange. Some of the pearls are so reactive they cause the ball to get forward much quicker. The Nano additive seems to lengthen the transition slightly but you still see the ball clear the fronts more easily than the solid cover did. The ball looked best on our long house pattern when keeping it in the oil. It would come around for me when I pushed it into the friction, but it really shined in the area that most balls would bog down. Our long pattern creates an area down-lane where most balls wont recover. It is a 12 to 1 so there's plenty of friction up the outside. This usually forces you to either get it right early or hold the breakpoint in closer to the head pin. You can see over/under throwing it right early and as I mentioned a lot of balls bog down in between those two spots. The microtrax begins the ball progressing in the heavy mid-lane oil and the morph wing continues it so you don't have to avoid the soup in the back of the pattern. This ball is going to be very good on all longer oil patterns and it still in play on medium length patterns. The Transform Pearl fills a greatly needed spot in the arsenal – strong enough to handle oil while still maintaining a strong backend reaction. In that sense, it is not too dissimilar from the original Transformer, in a way: that ball also does not hook early compared to the heavy oil monsters. The Transform Pearl is the perfect step down from the original Transformer when a cleaner ball is needed. It is best at home on medium oil conditions, though it is not allergic to oil at all. As far as where it fits in the arsenal, I find it fits perfectly between the Transformer and the pearl Gremlin.

Layout: 4 1/2 x 4 x 2 (not through Wing) Surface: Power Edge Rev Rate: 470 Tilt: 13* The Transform Pearl brings back the Morph-Wing core from the original Transformer but now paired with the Micro Trax Pearl coverstock which is Nano based. The idea behind this one was to give a stronger and more angular coverstock to handle a little more oil than the original while not needing to utilize the Wing of the core during drilling. What I found on the original Transformer that I have drilled the same as the Transform Pearl; it was too clean for what it was supposed to be used for. The coverstock being much weaker that Micro Trax made the ball give adequate length while still maintaining its smooth shape. While that could be good on some conditions, I preferred my Transformer that was drilled through the wing which gave earlier shape and more continuation for my style. The Transform Pearl for me more closely resembles my second Transformer drilling. I was able to test this on the 50' 2026 PBA Badger Pattern. On the Fresh, the Power Edge made the ball a little too clean to slow down on this long pattern enough. As designed, this will be a better transition ball then a fresh ball in most scenarios. As the pattern broke down around 10 -12 at the break point, this ball shined. The stronger coverstock allowed it to read the midlane well and then friction at the end of the pattern allowed the ball to read adequately. For a heavier oiled pattern, this Transform was able to handle that transition pretty well. The strength of the coverstock made the ball pretty strong off the spot while not being too angular and uncontrollable. I recommend this ball as a step down off a stronger ball then the Transformer such as the 900 Global Viking Conquest or Storm Alpha Crux. The core and cover combination to me puts the ball closer to one of those balls over the Transformer unless it is drilled through the wing. If you like to use stronger asymmetrical pearls in the oil, then this is a good piece to drill. Compared to the Ion Max Pearl, it is slightly cleaner and gives a more angular backend.
