This time, the Perfect Gem takes the legendary characteristics of the original Gem and updates it with A.I. Core Technology and the new Extreme-Response Solid cover that allows the ball to clear the front part of the lane more easily. The intent is a big-hooking ball that doesn’t burn up too easily and saves energy for a continuous, booming shape down-lane. From what I’ve seen, it’s clear that the Perfect Gem is a very aggressive top-of-the-bag ball that has a more responsive motion down-lane compared to the original Gem. Even though it’s a “big hooking” ball, it’s definitely more useable on a wider variety of patterns and will certainly find more lane time because of its increased versatility. In some ways it reminds me of the Magic Gem was trying to be with its strong hybrid cover – a little cleaner through the front part of the lane and a stronger motion closer to the pins. However, I think the Perfect Gem does a better job delivering on that motion with the addition of the A.I. core and new solid cover. I expect the Perfect Gem to be a great ball for heavy to medium volume patterns and for blending out the over/under reaction you typically see on league house shots. It’s plenty strong out of the box and has plenty of versatility, but I suspect it will become more versatile as it lane-shines after a few games or by adjusting the surface with a 3000- or 4000-grit Abralon pad. The Perfect Gem is my new go-to for heavier volume patterns when I need a bit more shape than what the original Gem was capable of. Compared to OG Gem Perfect will be cleaner with a strong motion on the backend. In this video I compared to perfect Gem to the wicked gremlin I found the Perfect Gem to be about 3-5 boards stronger than the wicked So if I feel like the wicked isn’t strong enough the perfect gem will be perfect.

Layout: 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 Surface: 2000 Abralon Rev Rate: 440 Tilt: 11* The original Gem was one of my favorite balls when it was in the Roto Grip lineup. I enjoyed how much overall hook it had and how well it continued for me. The Perfect Gem brings that ball reaction but with extra hitting power and even more continuation. The Gem core was brought back but this time with AI technology. This gave the core a higher RG value and higher differential which gives this ball more length and finish compared to the original. The coverstock is joined with the new E-R1 coverstock for extreme response. When I first tried it on my 41ft house pattern, it was very strong as expected. Even for the fresh, it just hooked too much and forced me out the zone that works the best for me, but I can tell that it didn't stop continuing. As I moved left, these strong asymmetrical solid balls tend to quit hooking as they stop their roll face quickly. The Perfect Gem did not do this. As I moved left, it kept hooking more and more down lane. There was no fear that this ball was going to roll out. I had to get about 10 boards left of my usual spot on the fresh to see the ball finally get into the pocket, about 30 with my feet. After I got to board 30 I had to throw it over around board 20 to get it down the lane enough. When I got to the right spot, the Perfect Gem was unbelievable. I was able to get the ball to board 5 at the break point and gave me plenty of recovery into the pocket. When I missed left into the oil, it still hooked enough to get to the pocket and go through the pins the right way. I was blown away how much area left to right I ended up having once I got lined up. I see myself using the Perfect Gem a little more on sport patterns and lower friction environments than my typical house pattern just due to its strength. Its continuation though will allow me to stay in the ball way longer than the original Gem. I recommend this ball to more of the sport pattern bowler where you are going to see more overall oil volume. House patterns could be a little tricky if you don't have much oil on the lanes in general. Speed dominant bowlers will definitely like this one as well as lower rev bowlers who need more help getting hook will like this as well. Adam Chase Storm Staff

The Roto Grip Perfect Gem features the GEM+AI Core wrapped in the E-R1 Solid Coverstock. I drilled mine 4 x 4 x 1, and after comparing it to my Storm Alpha Crux, the Perfect Gem reads the lane earlier and provides slightly more overall motion. This ball will be ideal for me on the fresh when there’s a decent amount of volume, or when the Ion Max is just a little too strong. I think the Perfect Gem will favor a wide array of patterns, especially those with heavier volumes, giving me a reliable option when I need that earlier, stronger motion. In my bag, I see this ball fitting perfectly between the Ion Max and Viking Conquest in terms of downlane motion, while serving as a slight step up from the Storm Alpha Crux. If you’re looking for a strong, early-reading option to tackle heavier conditions, the Perfect Gem is definitely one to consider!

Roto Grip Perfect Gem 5x4x2. Asymmetrical Solid featuring the E-R1 cover with AI core. A lot of bowlers loved the original Gem. Unfortunately my game never really got along with the original because of how early it was and because of my low rotation it never had enough energy once it got to the pins. Perfect Gem has a slightly higher diff allowing it to get through the fronts a little easier and have more pop down lane which allows me to stay more forward with my release without having to worry about the ball bailing. This one is definitely a bit more responsive than the original Gem. I was also pleasantly surprised at how well it continued through the pins for such a strong cover. The Perfect GEM by Roto Grip is here! The layout is 5 x 4 x 2 (50 x 5 x 30 using the dual angle layout) This is my first ever GEM from the most popular series. This ball has the new E-R1 coverstock, which makes the ball clear the front part of the lane and provides that EXTREME response downlane. The original GEM was slow and chuggy, so I definitely see more length and backend from this Perfect GEM. Adding the A.I. core with this cover, gives it more punch through the pins. This ball will be great for me on heavier oil conditions and longer oil pattern as well. I will be taking this to a few tournaments this season! I drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers, CG kicked out 1” from the palm, and 1” Left of the Mass Bias. 5 x 4 x 2 ½. I threw this piece on a Fresh 38’ house pattern. Out of Box ball motion started in the mids with a strong backend reaction through the pins. I couldn’t throw this piece much on the house pattern cause it was a little too dry. I compared this to Wicked Gremlin. Wicked Gremlin is cleaner through the fronts and smoother on the backend than the Perfect Gem. This piece will be good for speed dominant and low rev rate bowlers.. Storm Products has brought back one of the staples in the Roto Grip line, the Gem series. In its previous incarnation, there was the original Gem (solid), the Exotic Gem (pearl) and the Magic Gem (hybrid). Those balls were big asymmetricals. The covers were all solid/pearl blends of MicroTrax which had nano particles for increased “snow tire” type traction. And those originals all featured the Defiant LRG core. The new Perfect Gem has all new components from its namesake. The cover is the brand new E-R1 which stands for extreme response, but it is nano free. The goal is to still provide a high degree of traction, but without nano particles, so it should clear the fronts easier than its predecessors and provide the extreme response down lane and through the pins. The Perfect Gem features the all new Gem + A.I. core which takes the original core, but recalibrates the internal density and fuses it with our Amplified Inertia (A.I.) Technology. Typically, adding A.I. to an existing core lowers the RG a little. But since the densities have been modified as well, the RG is actually a little higher in the Perfect Gem at 2.49 in the 15#. It also has a bigger differential at 0.057 with a PSA dif of 0.017. What all this means is the Perfect Gem should be pretty early, with a big flare potential so it will be at the top of your bag with the Ion Max, the Viking Conquest, but it will be a little cleaner and therefore be a little more responsive with a bigger back end reaction. I recently bowled the Northwest and West Elite Regionals on the 48’ pattern. I didn’t have this at the first Northwest event, but a lot of guys were throwing it. I drilled mine with the specific idea to use it on the West event. So I put the pin 5 ¾ from my PAP because I wanted it to stay online for the longer pattern since I would be playing so close to the head pin. I wanted it to rev up and read the midlane, so I put the PSA 2” from my PAP. And I used a 2” pin buffer so it would have a pretty quick hook window since it wouldn’t have a lot of time to make a smooth change of direction on the longer pattern. I liked what it gave me starting game 1. I felt like the cover wouldn’t over shoot and the core would rev up so it would read the midlane. It just was a little too strong on the back end given how close my breakpoint was to the pocket. Also, that pattern is really low scoring, so nothing was going to create a bunch of miss room, but it at least made me feel like I had a ball motion that gave me a chance. Throwing it on a house pattern, I confirmed that the Perfect Gem is similar to the big asyms like Ion Max and Viking Conquest. It is a little cleaner, and has more back end motion. So f you are looking for a big ball for the top of your bag and one that is a little more versatile because it has more responsiveness down lane, the Perfect Gem could be the perfect choice for you.

The changes made to the Perfect Gem allow it to provide a ball that keeps coming on the back part of the lane where the original would sometimes roll out. Both solid Gems hook a lot, but I feel I will be able to use the newest on more occasions one if there is enough oil. This ball has great colors and when polished looks great. Polish also gives the ball more length and pop on the back of the lane. The Storm family has some very good high hook potential dull balls out right now. I would choose this one for a big, controlled hook with a good move at the break point. The Viking Conquest for more back-end motion and the alpha for early and forward roll. The Perfect Gem was well received at our recent Match Maker ball Demo and showed its hook potential. Summary: This is a very strong ball from Roto Grip. This series has been a home run for that first out of bag bowling ball and not to mention the awesome shelf appeal! If you love those bowling balls that like to move this will not disappoint. The biggest difference in this new version is a slightly more dense core as well as a cleaner look through the front part of the lane. We feel compared to the original Gem this ball is less forward rolling and a little more continuous through the pins. Our style: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 5x4x2 (pin is above bridge). We really like this ball for fresh tournament and house patterns. We often find ourselves beginning with this piece in game 1 and transitioning to something a little smoother down lane in the later part of game 2 and game 3. This ball may not be as versatile as some of the other SPI asym bowling balls but it must not be overlooked for its power on the fresh. It really is a true Gem. Right Hand - 15.5 mph down lane, 335 +/-, PAP 4.75, 1/2 up, layout is 4.5 x4x2.25. I have bowled on a house shot at Bowlero Edmond, OK and a 44ft 29ml pattern. The Perfect Gem is for the person who wants maximum traction, strong continuation, and plenty of shape when the lanes are fresh and demanding. The only Gem I have rolled prior was the Magic Gem. The Magic Gem was designed to sit between the original Gem and Exotic Gem, offering more length than the original Gem while maintaining substantial midlane traction. The interesting thing about the Perfect Gem is that solid, doesn't necessarily mean earlier or smoother. The new E-R1 cover was designed to get through the front relatively cleanly and then respond strongly to friction. My comparison is that the Magic Gem is skid, strong read, strong continuation and the Perfect Gem is clean, stronger midlane, bigger and more continuous. The Roto Grip Perfect Gem is a powerful heavy-oil weapon. If you're looking for a piece of equipment that can dig through oil, read the midlane and continue through the pins, the Perfect Gem deserves a spot in your bag. The Perfect Gem gives you a stronger overall read while still maintaining enough energy to continue through the pins. For a bowler with decent speed and/or lower rev rate, the Perfect Gem could be particularly interesting because it gives you a way to create traction without necessarily getting the ball to quit downlane. The Perfect Gem might be the most versatile Gem that they have made. Even though the ball doesn’t pick up as early as the original Gem, it is still strong. When the lanes break down I feel like the original Gem didn’t have as much forgiveness when I moved a little left. This ball has a bit more length with a sharper backend motion. It allowed me to play a little more inside and the ball just continued to plow through the pins.

Following up on the Wicked Gremlin, the Perfect Gem is on the stronger side with the E-R1 cover with the updated GEM cover. E-R1 cover actually “allows the ball to save energy with a booming shape down lane.” Out of the box at 2000 grit, the Perfect Gem was way strong and early in the reaction for me on a medium to heavy volume house pattern with Kegel GLIDE Lane conditioner. I mean STRONG! Like WOW! Holey Moley! So, I started to experiment with surface changes to see what I really had with this ball with the help of the ABC North pro shop haus machine and ball spinner. I tried grits from 3000 to 5000 and just seemed to still be a little early and “booming” in the backend. So, I tried doing a complete reset with 500 then 1500 grits then used Storm Rough Edge on the surface, and I was completely amazed by the reaction and how long I was able to stay with the ball through my whole practice session for more than 1 hour. I decided to use it in league play the past 2 weeks at 2 different centers and I can say with minor target adjustments, I could use the Perfect Gem when I Rock Star was just not getting around the corner enough to get good strike percentage. The Perfect Gem to me with the current cover condition is the best ball to follow up from my Rock Star during league play. The Roto Grip Perfect Gem is easily the strongest bowling ball I have ever thrown, and it strikes a ton! Mine is drilled **50×4¾×70**, and this ball has an incredible amount of strength and traction while still being surprisingly versatile. I personally prefer mine with surface, where it becomes an absolute monster for heavy-volume patterns and gives me the confidence to attack conditions where I need maximum traction. What really impressed me, though, is how much the Perfect Gem can be manipulated with surface and for some bowlers, even polish, to create a completely different shape. That versatility makes it much more than just a heavy-oil ball. The Roto Grip Perfect Gem is one of those balls that immediately gets my attention once I put it on the lane. With my 50 x 5 x 50 layout, I’m seeing a really strong combination of traction through the front, continuation through the pins, and plenty of shape when it gets to the breakpoint. What I really like about the Perfect Gem is how much confidence it gives me when I need a ball that can handle a little more oil. It picks up in the midlane without feeling lazy downlane, and when it sees friction, it makes a strong and continuous move through the pocket. For my game, I’m able to create a lot of different looks with this ball simply by changing my launch angle and ball speed. It gives me the traction I want in the oil while still maintaining the continuation I need downlane. I’ve always loved the original Gem because it was so rolly and predictable. I’ve had several 300s with it, so I was really interested to see what the Perfect Gem would do differently. The Perfect Gem is noticeably stronger downlane, with more pop and continuation through the pins. It gives me a different look from the original while still feeling like a ball I can trust when I need to move right (left handed) and open up the lane.

The Magic Gem was designed to sit between the original Gem and Exotic Gem, offering more length than the original Gem while maintaining substantial midlane traction. The interesting thing about the Perfect Gem is that solid, doesn't necessarily mean earlier or smoother. The new E-R1 cover was designed to get through the front relatively cleanly and then respond strongly to friction. My comparison is that the Magic Gem is skid, strong read, strong continuation and the Perfect Gem is clean, stronger midlane, bigger and more continuous. The Roto-Grip Perfect Gem is a powerful heavy-oil weapon. If you're looking for a piece of equipment that can dig through oil, read the midlane and continue through the pins, the Perfect Gem deserves a spot in your bag. The Perfect Gem gives you a stronger overall read while still maintaining enough energy to continue through the pins. For a bowler with decent speed and/or lower rev rate, the Perfect Gem could be particularly interesting because it gives you a way to create traction without necessarily getting the ball to quit downlane. The Perfect Gem gives me exactly what I’m looking for when I need a strong, confident reaction on heavier conditions. It digs into the lane early, gives me a strong and predictable midlane read, and still has plenty of continuation through the pins. Compared to the Original Gem, I see a little more continuation downlane while still getting that strong overall motion the Gem line is known for. Compared to the Magic Gem, the Perfect feels smoother and more predictable for me, especially when I need to control the breakpoint. It fits nicely between the two and gives me a shape that I feel like I can use on a wider variety of heavier conditions. When there’s enough volume and I need something strong, smooth, and dependable, the Perfect Gem is an easy choice.
