On a THS, I liked how the Optitrax skates in the front part of the lane and gently bites in the mid-lane, providing a smooth and predictable motion I could count on. Whether early on fresh conditions when I am playing straight up second arrow or later in game three when I need to open my angles, I could rely on the Optitrax Solid to deliver a clean and brisk transition off the pattern without worrying about the Clone jumping when it finds friction. Roto Grip Clone ball review The Clone is another ball that gives me a shape different than anything in my bag right now. As I was a big fan of the E.T. Core, getting a new piece using a revised version of it was something to look forward to. Combined with the Optitrax solid cover with a Reacta gloss finish and you have a great new addition to any arsenal. This ball is plenty clean through the front of the lane thanks to the Reacta Gloss. It really shines (no pun intended) in the midlane. The Clone really picks up for me there and makes a really strong move, even on heavier oil. The ball is pretty forward on the back of the lane, making it very controllable. If you play more up the lane like me, this will really make this ball usable on a variety of conditions. It gives me a good angle to carry while not going sideways if I miss a little. Whenever I used it so far I have seen some big scores. I also find it easy to read the lanes with it as it makes that very defined reaction in the midlane. With the Reacta Gloss finish, this ball is much cleaner and sharper than any other solid covers I have right now. It's a little less overall than my Summit, but stronger than my go to pearl which is the Eternity usually. Roto Grip Clone: Cloned ET core with Optitrax solid reactive cover. Layout: 50 x 3 ½ x 35: finished with Storm Reacta Gloss. With the recent change in my game and health, for the better, I wanted a good and strong solid reactive mid-length with little less flare than the other 3 new balls I had drilled. We went with the above layout. The initial few throws were stronger and heavier through the pocket than my Exotic Gem, I needed to open up and swing it a little more and open up the pattern and lane. After practicing for 30-35 minutes with the Clone, I became comfortable with the strong roll and blistering through the pins. My friend and 900 Global staff member could not believe how well the Clone rolled and reacted for me. The Exotic Gem is not as strong as the Clone for me, and I feel it rolled and performed better than the OG UFO and UFO Alert. Used the Clone and Tour Dynam-X exclusively since getting these balls in my hands. The Clone offers options to handle heavier volumes of oil, more options for various weights and a coverstock that generates a touch more length then your traditional solids. In addition, the Clone provides enough variation in the HP4 line to be part of any arsenal. The coverstock of the Clone along with the updated core compared to my Exotic Gem allows for more length through the front part of the lane. Both of these balls have been a pleasant surprise regarding control. The Clone is more angular and will allow you to open the lane up more for a big asym ball compared to the Exotic Gem. The OOB finish worked well on two older HPL surfaces where the THS shot is oiled at 42' and 43' feet. Initially, I thought I may need to surface with a 1K or 2K pad. For now, I'm leaving the surface as-is. In addition, I have an opportunity to attend some SPI demo days where I want evaluate the Clone in more detail. They modified the UFO Alert core and added a new straight reactive cover. The result is a ball that’s earlier and rounder than the Alert. I was surprised when it was announced as a solid but after throwing it I really really like it. The straight reactive cover doesn’t read the fronts as much as some of the stronger asyms we have so I feel like I can use it on more volume levels and for longer. The core doesn’t super read either either but it does hook quite a bit in the back part of the lane. I would put the clone on the bottom end of our asym lineup in terms of strength in the front part of the lane but overall hook it definitely ranks towards the top with the added bonus of not reading too early!

Drilled this piece with the Pin above the bridge, CG kicked out 1” from the palm, and the Mass Bias 1/2” to the Right of the Thumb. I threw this piece on a fresh 41’ house pattern. Out of Box ball motion was clean through the fronts with a smooth backend reaction. After I took a 2000 & 3000 Abralon, it was still clean through the fronts but a sharper backend motion. I compared this piece to the Roto Grip Gem, Storm IQ Tour, and 900 Global Reality. Gem started earlier and had a smooth backend. IQ Tour (1-1 Right) overall a smooth reaction. The Clone is the upgrade we've been needing! The UFO Alert provided a unique shape that was clean and quick but overall pretty rounded. The Clone took heavy inspiration from that. However, it isn't just a reboot. The Clone features a brand new coverstock formula, this time in a solid version. The result is a noticeable step up in cover strength from the UFO Alert, and the modified density of the core provides a clean and stable shape. While the Clone is distinctly mid-RG in that is doesn't wind up and want to hook as soon as it sees friction, the cover and core work well to create traction and store energy. This is the strongest angular asym we've had in the line in awhile, and a surprising improvement on a shape that was a fan favorite.

Roto Grip’s newest HP4 line ball has a little bit of a different twist on it. The Cloned ET core which features an RG of 2.51, differential of 0.056 and PSA of 0.016, has the new Optitrax Solid cover but this solid is polished with Reacta Gloss. I drilled mine 5.5 x 5 x 5 and after throwing this ball for awhile I was completely surprised by that reaction of it. The Cloned ET core is an upgrade of the ET Core that was found on the UFO and UFO Alert. I thought with that happening the ball will be a little blend between those two balls but to my shock it reminds me of a weaker version of my DNA which I also have Reacta Gloss on. I think the Clone is going to be a house shot killer for any style of bowler and I think tournament bowlers will enjoy the versatilely of having it shinny or taking some surface too it.

The Clone is a strong ASym that provides you all the backend pop you need. This ball is super angular, maybe a bit too much on a fresh house shot but as the lanes start to transition and you need to move deeper this is going to be my go too ball. No matter how far left I move it still find a way to recover and get to the pocket with enough energy to strike.

The Clone is intended to give back the motion that fans of the UFO Alert loved. The Clone ET core and optitrax combo makes for a strong ball with some great down-lane motion. I tested the Clone on the high volume, long house pattern at my home center. The Clone is definitely strong enough to throw on the fresh here. It has turned out to be a great ball for bouncing off the friction even with as heavy as this pattern is. The high diff makes sure you get the flare you need for dynamic motion. The higher RG and clean cover keep it in play as you have to move left in the transition. I definitely feel like this ball likes high volume patterns, but it's no one trick pony. I was honestly a little surprised at how easily I could get this ball through the front of the lane as the night wore on. When I finished shooting my reaction video I decided to experiment with adding friction. I gotta say from a personal standpoint I think I like this ball even better at 2k than I do polished. It's still pretty clean, but smoothing it out a little down-lane was great for me and helped with over/under. I would recommend the clone for just about anyone. It's strong enough for people who need help from the ball to see motion and it's clean enough that rev dominant bowlers can use it on a variety of conditions. Ben Lapointe PAP - 1 1/4'' up, 4 7/8 over Layout - 5.25 x 4.25 x 3 The CLONE is the newest installment in Roto Grip's HP4 line. While the words "solid asymmetric" often mean early and strong. This piece for me, is actually very versatile when it comes to length and starting point. It comes out of box with Reacta-Gloss, which really allows it to clear the fronts with ease. A surface change on the CLONE can bring the starting point closer to you and allows it to be 2 or 3 balls in one. It is very round down lane, giving the a lot of control throughout the entire path of the ball. While I have never thrown its predecessor, this seems to be the closest replacement to a UFO Alert that we have in the current line. Go get yours August 18th and remember to bowl up a Storm!!

This ball is very angular. After reading up on what SPI was trying to do with this ball, they definitely hit it on the head. Colors look good going down the lane, clears the mids with ease, and comes off the spot with a mission. I only give this ball 3/5 because it doesn't fit my game well. I have seen other have much success with this. I hit mine with a used 2000 pad to knock off the shine a bit, it came to life for myself. It is just too much ball for the shots out here, This is for sure a tournament ball for me.

The Clone features the Cloned E.T. core and is wrapped in Optitrax solid. The Cloned E.T. core is almost a carbon copy for the E.T. core that was found in the UFO series balls. The Optitrax solid cover feels like a slightly milder version of MicroTrax found on the Gem. If I need the ball to start up quicker and roll more forward, I would use the TNT. I can see the Clone being useful in league and on tournament conditions when the backends get tighter. Layout: 5 x 4.5 x 4.5 Surface: Reacta Gloss The new Clone features the enhanced Cloned ET Core which lowered the RG Value and increased the differential compared to the ET Core of the UFO and Alert. This creates a stronger foot print in the oil for heavier oil conditions. There is also a new coverstock on this one with the Optitrax Solid. The finishing process is also Reacta Gloss which is completely new for a solid coverstock since the Eternal Cell many years ago. What makes this finishing process great is that it gives a cleaner look on the lane while giving a more angular and continuous backend than if it were a dull finish. This surface alone will give this ball more usability across more different lane conditions. I was able to test this on a typical house pattern and the 38ft Kegel Alcatraz Pattern. On the house pattern, I found this ball to be cleaner through the front and more angular down lane. The solid coverstock allowed me to still see good continuation and control on the lane good enough for the fresh. The reacta gloss did give it a little more length in the oil at times and did leave a weak 10 pin. When I got this ball to the friction, it read the lane very well and had a lot of hitting power through the pins. Compared to a Gem, the Clone is definitely cleaner and more down lane motion. Knocking the reacta gloss off this ball will bring it a lot closer to the Gem while still being overall cleaner. On the Alcatraz pattern, I found the reacta gloss finish to give me too much length to have success on the fresh. It often finished a little too behind the head pin and was a little too strong if I went more direct up the lane. As the lanes transitioned and gave me more hook to the outside part of the lane, this ball really started to shine. It still gave me easy length but angled more harder than on the fresh. It went through the pins significantly better. As the lanes continued to transition and I moved more left with my feet, the ball reaction still stay strong. It continued to angle through the pins while also controlling the flatter part of the pattern. This reaction is a great thing for my style because it still controls the lane while giving more length and continuation. On medium to medium long patterns, this ball will be in my bag as it is perfect for them. Heavier oiled patterns, would need some extra surface to get it to slow down a little quicker, especially on the fresh. I can also see myself having two of these in the bag, one being shiny and the other dull. Compared to the UFO alert, the stronger solid cover of the Clone makes it earlier and smoother. Ball Review (Dynamo X & Clone): The Tour Dynam-X will be a staple in the bag for some time to come. In this review I bowled on a very light THS that had some recreational play on it prior to me bowling. I drilled 2 Dynam-X balls as I was a big fan of the Rubicon which features a modified core in the Dynam-X. With the high friction/early hook conditions I encountered the pin down provided the best look of the 2 as it blended out the pattern real well. As you will see in the video with the pin up I begin to loft the ball a bit to get the ball to clear the fronts and provide energy down lane. I believe the Tour Dynam-X will be a great benchmark ball to throw on medium to higher volume and will be good with surface adjustments. I saw real good continuation with the pin down as that ball matched up the best, provided plenty of margin and great hitting power through the pins. With the Clone given the strength of this asym and the environment I was bowling on it was way too strong for those conditions. I winded up moving right from the Dynam-X and increased my ball speed to get it through the fronts and provide angle down lane. You will see on the first few shots when I play left to right it read too early and didn't provide enough shape down lane. Once I got right and increased speed the ball looked real good. This will be good for medium to heavier conditions and could be used either on the fresh or as a transition ball off the stronger solids.
