Visionary Frank May Gryphon Bowling Ball

(12 reviews) Write a Review
The Frankie May signature Gryphon harnesses the power of the G-3 core design and surrounds it with the newly developed React-A-Tack coverstock. This reactive coverstock uses a revolutionary tackifying agent to create more traction in the oil, yet it still allows the ball to have very aggressive backends. This ball is very versatile and can be adjusted to fit all but the extreme oil conditions. The core used in the GRYPHON line offers a low RG (2.50″) with a high Differential (.056″). This allows the Gryphons to read earlier than other balls with similar covers but the heavy flip cap keeps the Gryphons from losing energy too soon. The Gryphons are great balls for almost every style. The G-3 core used in this ball is an elongated symmetrical, dual density inner core design with a tapered cylindrical wrap. The differential created by this combination allows the ball to rev up and read the midlane while the dense flip cap helps create the strong break on the backend.

After getting this ball from e-bay, it came with a longer span, than I'm used to throwing with, a 3-4 inch pin, at a 1:30 type drilling. On my monday league, my immortal, was running hard down the lanes, so I pulled out this ill, fitting frankie may! This ball was smooth going down the lanes, and hit very hard. making the pins sorry that they showed up! I shot the first game a 187, then 257, then the first 10 and had a 289, for a 733 series! Now that I had time to plug and redrill that ball, and it fit's my hand, I've found out that this the most perdictable ball, and first out of my bag! And along with the G-3, and the blue sparkle gryphon, I finnaly have formed a awesome combonation, for any conditions!

steady through the front - steady - steady - BANG!!!. What just happened. while i was getting sleepy the ball blasted off of the back end like a cannon. damn, pins didnt stand a chance. only way to make it more fair was to put up some oak, or redwood trees on the deck. very powerful - keeps the pins very low. this ball could turn pee wee herman into the nastiest monster on the planet. thanks for the confidence visionary. another kick ass ball. no more getting sand kicked in my face. well at least not at the bowling center anyway. the beach on the other hand . . .well thats a different story.

This ball works really well. I used this ball in one tournament where the lanes were oiled and some regular practice games where the lanes were oiled as well. My league shot is too dry to use this ball though so I go with something polished. I am able to move into an inside line and the ball still corners and carries well. I even get good messengers and pin action with this ball. The ball seems very versitile if there is enough head oil to project the ball down the lane. The ball has a very strong move at the break point even without a extremely strong drilling. The surface holds up well and after many games I still get the same reaction as out of the box.

This ball I have used for 3 month and play it at the national championship. I just had play very high score and I can use it at each conditional. After 20 Games the ball reaction are a little bit slower in the backend but the Power are the same... On Heavy Oil It just skids to long and hits late. I change my sortiment to Visionary and the differences to my past assortment (Storm) are very positive. I advise the Franky May who still another gradation upward necessary. By its constant operating attitude it is apart from extremely heavy the oil a weapon

I've had this ball well over a year. To the best of my knowledge I guess there is no more then three games on the ball! I've been having trouble with my SPORT SHOT league this summer so I looked up the specs on all of my balls (I have more then 40). BTM reviewed this ball back in 2005. I went back to it and they suggested the ball had a good reaction on SPORT CONDITION so I decided last night to give it a try. BINGO .. the ball worked beautiful! It held the line and blew the pins away. I admit I didn't shoot BIG NUMBERS but the ball gave me a great read and I know next week I'll pick up my sagging average on the Sport Shot (currently about 170). My feeling is tha this ball will do wonders on my normal house shot and I'm going to give it a shot!

the soft cover that i mentioned before and the fact that usually what i get is a "what is that thing?" we have sold 3 of thses, 2 came back to the shop, one because the guy thought the ball hooked too much, what he needed was a full roller lay out and not leverage drilling that he was given. the other cracked. i doubt it was the fault ofthe ball, rather the fault of the guy leaving it in his truck while it was cold out, -30 degrees ferenhite in his cab still too cold for hte ball to be sititng for any time at all

I have (2) Frankie May Gryphons in my arsenal. They are both drilled to get through the front end and slaughter the pocket. I shot a 300 a month ago using one FM Gryphon on each lane(one polished and one dull). They are both drilled the same way but one is dulled to catch the lane earlier. The polished one I kept outside the 1st arrow with less speed and the dull one I played 2nd arrow in the oil. This ball is very versatile and for the price, it is a hell of a value.. I'd buy a Visionary product faster than a Storm product because you get a better ball for $100 less. It helps that Frankie May himself drilled my ball :)

This ball I have only used for 5 weeks and have not thrown less that 650. I just had my first ever 300 and continued on wuth a total of 17 in row before the adrenaline wore off and I got slow. I had the ball surface changed to 1000 grit to help it store more energy for the backend and it has paid off. The only condition I will not use this on is one of heavy oil. It just skids to long and hits late. The only other thing with this ball is with the way I have it drilled I can't go to far inside with it because it won't turn the corner in time. Other than that I would recommend this ball to anyone and I couldn't have made a better decision than investing with Visionary.

I have had this ball for about 2 months and I am very impressed with this bowling ball. I thought that the 400 matte out of box would be to much, but I was wrong, this bowling balls still gets thru the heads pretty clean, great midlane roll and just constantly drives thru the backends. Visionary is not a well none company where I bowl at but If they continue to make good products like the Frankie May it won't be long. Do yourself and Me a favor get this ball you will not be dissapointed. I have never tried this ball polished, so i don't know how this will roll.

This ball was drilled label leverage. This ball was too much out of the box with 400 grit, so I took it up to 800 grit so that the ball would get down the lane further. The purpose of this ball was to fill the big hook void in my arsenel which it did quite well. This ball grips throught the oil and still stores energy for the backends. The reaction of this ball is very smooth down the lane. Visionary products could possibly be on the verge of revolutionizing bowling as we know it. Everything they make hits like a mac truck. Give it a try.
