Storm Rocket Ship Bowling Ball

With nearly 25 years of experience manufacturing high performance balls, Storm is The Bowler’s Company™. In fact, no company today has been making reactive bowling balls longer than Storm. And throughout the years, we have learned a lot. We know what you are looking for since we are bowlers, too, just like you. But know that we are continuously striving to develop new products which will help you roll more strikes and have more fun! The new Rocket Ship™ is encased with R2S™ Solid Reactive material but is a unique ball with a surface prep that is the first of its kind: 3000-grit Sheen. It undergoes the same process as a 1500-grit polished ball, but we added a final step by quickly and lightly hitting it with a 3000-grit Abralon® pad, the industry standard. This smooths out the surface topography of the ball by lightly breaking up the polish that was applied creating a sanded profile with a smooth sheen appearance. Always with the bowler in mind, we developed this process to ensure an even, controllable, forgiving reaction for whomever rolls it. The Booster™ Core was the perfect option for this new method of surface development due to its mid-range RG and moderate differential values. It will provide a long, smoother option if the Sky Rocket™ were to be too angular. No one does a better job than Storm at filling in the gaps. That is our commitment to our bowlers, and that is why we are The Bowler’s Company™.

The Rocket Ship is the third ball released with the Booster Core in the Thunder Line of bowling balls. The Booster core has an RG of 2.54 and a differential of 0.046 in 15lb balls. Two things separate the Rocket Ship from the Rocket and Sky Rocket, a solid R2S coverstock and a new factory finish of 3000 grit sheen. This finish is polished and then brought back to "scuffed" with a 3000 grit pad. The Rocket Ship has a two-tone purple color combination, with a butter pecan scent. I drilled two different Rocket Ships. The first one is a 4 x 4 x 2 ¾ with a P2 balance hole, and the second one is a 4 x 5 x 2 ¾ (same layout as the Fight I drilled and reviewed earlier this year), no extra hole. I used Storm step #1 on the second ball. The first Rocket Ship reads the midlane stronger and is sharper at the breakpoint than the second Rocket Ship. The second Rocket Ship without the extra hole is a true benchmark ball. The sharper breakpoint of the first Rocket Ship is still smoother overall, compared to my Rocket and Snap Lock and Fight. I can use the second Rocket Ship on sport and challenge patterns, and it does not overreact to the flatter lane condition. The first Rocket Ship needs some hold area, or some bounce area, as the stronger backend motion isn't as suitable on flatter patterns, until they break down, and the pattern develops some miss area. I really like this new ball, and it will be a great fit in my arsenal. This is a completely different motion than the Fight, but covers about the same amount of boards, for me. Thank you for taking the time to read my Review of the Rocket Ship. As always, Bowl up a Storm!

I drilled up the Rocket Ship a couple of weeks ago and it has quickly become the first ball out of my bag. I had a couple of friends tell me how much they liked it and that I should have one in my bag. They were not wrong... I've only rolled it on THS at this point, but it is my benchmark and I don't normally have to ball up or down. For a matte-finish solid, it clears the heads quite well and doesn't overreact when it runs up on friction. If my look starts to change during the series, a couple of small adjustments keeps me in the pocket. This ball has quickly become a favorite and it has me excited about trying it on various patterns. I would recommend this ball to all levels of bowlers without hesitation. It is a must have for the competitive bowler.

The Storm Rocket Ship is Storms newest release in the Thunder Line. The Rocket Ship is covered with the popular R2S coverstock and is finished with the never been used 3000 grit Sheen finish. The core again is the Booster Core which is also found in the Rocket and the Sky Rocket. I drilled my Rocketship with a 45x5x30 layout. I wanted a strong mid lane reaction with good pop on the backend. This ball did not disappoint. The cover handles heavier volumes of oil with ease and the overall reaction is smooth and controlled compared to an Alpha Crux or Lock. The Rocket Ship is a great compliment to the Rocket because it’s a few boards stronger and handles heavier oil better but still maintains the smooth overall shape that the Rocket has. I recommend this ball for medium to medium heavy oil patterns. This ball is great for heavier volume house shots as well as medium sport patterns. This ball is very versatile and with the right layout you can make this ball do and handle what you want it to do.

The Rocket Ship is the most versatile ball I have seen in the Storm line in a long time. In the short time since I have drilled one I have been able to match up with it on EVERY pattern I have bowled on. Varying lengths, ratios, tapers, etc. Furthermore, I have been able to maintain good ball motion over a larger number of games than with most balls. The Rocket Ship creates a medium amount of friction and is best used as a medium response time option. The Storm Rocket Ship has been one of my favorite balls since I drilled it. Compared to the Rocket this ball is more controllable down lane. The Sky Rocket was much weaker and best with some surface added to the cover. I used the same Layout on my Rocket Ship as my IQ Tour Solid 3 x 4.5 The Rocket Ship picks up faster than the IQ and is stronger off the spot. This is a great choice if your looking for a new ball to add to your bag. This ball really drives though the pocket and creates some great pin action.

Bowler: Keven Williams Hand: Left Speed: 18.5mph Rev Rate: 450rpm Oil Pattern: Typical House Shot The Storm Rocket Ship is by far my favorite ball between the three bowling balls in the “Rocket” line. The original Rocket was very strong off the spot and the Sky Rocket was too weak at times. The Rocket Ship is the perfect blend of smooth and continuous. The Rocket Ship gets into a nice heavy midlane roll and just keeps on going through the pins. It’s a very versatile ball for any conditions from light/dry patterns to heavier volume patterns. This is a great piece to have in the bag and a go to ball for many.

I drilled this ball with the Pin Down for the PBA World Championship Pattern. I wanted this ball to read the lanes earlier instead reacting late. Due to this layout I played Up to and sometimes inside the 3rd arrow and the ball read the lanes early and had enough power in store that when the ball began its break it ripped through the pins. I averaged 223.23 for eight games with this ball. The ball rolled smoothly of my hand and did an excellent job reading the break point and not being super aggressive or sensitive. Awesome Ball. Gotta Have one for all.

The Rocket Ship is the solid reactive version in the Rocket Series. I found the Sky Rocket to be extremely clean through the fronts and the Rocket to be a little on the flippy side. The Rocket Ship is right in between the 2. I drilled mine with 4 3/4x4 1/2x3 pin up. I saw an early motion with a nice arc to the backend. I also applied Storm reacta shine to help get it down the lane. I really liked the Rocket Ship on the Kegel Sport shots that I bowled on this summer. Very smooth and predictable. For house shots I had to play in the puddle a little more to store some energy. It is just has a different motion overall than the other 2 Rockets. Great benchmark ball. The newest addition to Storm’s famous Thunder Line is the Rocket Ship. The Rocket utilizes the Booster core that was in the Rocket and the Sky Rocket. The Booster core help those two bowling balls get around the corner with ease… with the Rocket Ship no different! The Rocket Ship’s coverstock is the R2S Solid Reactive. The R2S solid reactive wrapped around the Booster core equals continuous motion with a kick! The Rocket Ship is a good addition to the already stellar Thunder Line. I had a lot of bowling balls to choose from to compare against the Rocket Ship. I went with another solid coverstock in the Fight and also the IQ Tour. All of the bowling balls are drilled similar with pin down below fingers with a hole down with box surface. What I noticed with the Rocket Ship is the different motion that it had compared to the Fight and the IQ Tour. It was smoother through the front than the IQ Tour but bit harder on the backend compared to the Fight. I threw all of them on various medium to heavy sports patterns and the House Shot. The House Pattern was an adventure because of my lower rev rate (300) and medium ball speed. The over under usual gets me until carry down happens. The Rocket Ship is smoother than the IQ Tour so I was able to play closer to the friction. The bounce off the friction was readable and continuous with the Rocket Ship. The Fight gave me a similar reaction but when I missed left into the oil it did not finish as hard as the Rocket Ship. Also as the session continued I was able to continue to chase the pattern left and the Rocket Ship kept going through the pins. There is always a limit to how far left you go with a solid big piece but the medium RG value pushed that line with the Rocket Ship! The Rocket Ship will be a Shim Wrecker for SURE!

The Rocket Ship is the newest release in the Rocket family. The Rocket Ship has the same core as the Rocket and Sky Rocket but has a dull solid cover. The original Rocket was a little too slow of a response time ball for me. The Rocket Ship actually has a fairly slow response time to friction for being a solid cover, but the strength of the cover really makes the ball corner. I drilled my Rocket Ship with the pin under my ring finger and a low weight hole. I see the Rocket Ship as a new age Special Agent from years ago. It is a versatile piece that will appeal to a lot of different styles.

Orientation: Right Handed Rev Rate: 375 RPM Speed: 16-17 MPH PAP: 4 5/8 straight across Location: Enterprise Park Lanes, Springfield MO Pattern: High Volume THS Layout: 55, 4 3/4, 40 The Rocket Ship is the “ROCKET” I’ve been waiting for. The Rocket and Sky Rocket were a little too clean for me, causing too much of an over/under reaction. But when I could throw them I loved that “Rocket” roll. The Rocket Ship solves my problems. The sanded solid cover is VERY consistent and rolls great. It’s through the heads clean like a high RG ball should be but it picks up a good mid-lane roll then continues over the 7 pin! The Rocket Ship is a versatile ball every tournament bowler needs!

I drilled my RocketShip with my Snaplock, I normally like pearl shells over solids...I'm a sucker for the flip down lane, who isn't? I didn't think I would use it as much and I was wrong. The RocketShip is the first ball out of my bag on my league nights. I don't currently bowl on a sport condition, hopefully I'll get a few games on that soon and report back. As far as our THS at our center the RocketShip is one of the best benchmark balls I've seen lately. My good shots were pure rack rippers and my bad shots (I'm just a ball driller, so I make a bad shot from time to time) to the right came back smooth and predictable. Love this ball! I drilled a few for my customers and all the feed back was the same as mine. Go get one!!! #stormnation

After the original Rocket and Sky Rocket were released, the Rocket Ship fits perfectly between the two. I found the original Rocket provided us with a hybrid cover creating a smoother shape but with a faster response time. The Sky Rocket gave us an extremely clean motion through the front of the lane and a much quicker response time. The Rocket Ship gives us a new and different motion compared to the previous two releases. I’ve drilled one Rocket Ship so far and it’s mapped out as: 4 ½ x 4 with a small hole two inches under my axis. I’ve noticed this layout creates a very smooth and predictable motion and that’s what I was looking to create. I’ve been able to throw the Rocket Ship on Cheetah, Viper, Chameleon, and most other patterns with some friction. I haven’t thrown it yet on anything with a significant amount of volume, but I could see it being a great fit with more surface. I didn’t change the surface out of the box, just simply let the lane oil shine it on its own and it rolls great. If you need an extremely predictable, smooth, benchmark type shape in your bag, the Rocket Ship is a perfect fit. #StormNation

When writing a review, I generally refrain from calling the ball good or bad, I try to simply describe it's attributes and strengths. There's a saying that has gone around the industry, "There are no bad balls, just bad ball reaction." While companies don't release "bad" bowling balls, they can look bad if they don't match up to your style, or you are using them on the wrong conditions. However, there are those balls that seem to just be better than the rest for whatever reason, and I feel the Rocket Ship is one of them. I can comfortably say that I believe this is the most versatile ball currently on the market, perhaps even moreso than the legendary Hyroad. This ball will cover the widest variety of lane conditions for the widest variety of bowlers. This is always my first ball out of the bag, and always the first selection to take to tournaments. For me, this is definitely a must have ball.

Storm Rocket Ship ball review: Layout: 45 x 4 3/8th x 75 Coverstock: R2S solid reactive Core: Booster Core Finish: 3000grit sheen Flare potential: Mid to High Lane details: HPL with Flex machine 44ft Kegel pattern with Fire and Ice oil Results: Comparing to the Storm Fight and Hy-Road solid, this ball read the lane a little earlier then I thought it and recovered ALOT stronger then I was anticipating. The transition in the roll was really quick, it did not labor like I had with the Fight, better overall reaction and was able ro create a great down look with different hand positions. If you watch my you tube video, you will see several different entries into the pocket with the ball. Very versatile ball for a mid level performance ball, 3 0 grit sheen was a great idea for this ball and it was well thought through. I tried it on the Tower of Piza and Statue of Liberty and the ball worked really well. A step down from my Hay Wire pin up, which I was missing in my current sport pattern arsenal.

Storm Rocket Ship Layout-pin above ring finger, cg kicked out .5 inches, OOB Lane condition-40 ft THS Surface-HPL I wanted this to be my benchmark ball. I used a very tame layout for this ball, something in between of what my normal layouts are. What I got out of this ball is what I wanted. A very smooth and tame ball reaction, nothing to too herky jerky in the backends. I was able to play the inside part of the lanes and still have a lot of punch in the backends. When I moved out in the dry the ball become a little more angular but nothing to extreme. I really like this ball and believe that this will a homerun for its price point. The color scheme is a flat purple, but makes up for it with a delectable butter pecan fragrance. See your local pro shop operator on June 7th and pick up one up, you will not be disappointed. Bowl up a Storm.
