Storm Reign On Bowling Ball

Storm knows what you need because we are all bowlers ourselves. In testing, the Reign On got a huge thumbs up when the final recipe – coverstock, weight block, and finish – all matched up to create a strong skid-flip reaction you’re sure to love. All Storm bowling balls, starting with the weight block, are built with the bowler in mind. The carefully-contoured C.A.M.™ (Continuous Axis Migration) weight block is shaped to create a steady migration of the axis throughout the lane. What does that do for you? It produces a more consistent amount of flare even when you aren’t as consistent as you’d like. For the shell, Storm chose the unparalleled R2S™ material, specifically a 4000-grit hybrid combination that combines traction and control to help you conquer a multitude of conditions. Never get “stuck” trying to find the proper break point again.

COVERSTOCK:R2S™ Hybrid Reactive WEIGHT BLOCK:C.A.M.™ FACTORY FINISH:4000-grit Pad BALL COLOR:White Silver/Deep Purple DUROMETER:74-76 Rex D-scale FLARE POTENTIAL:4” - 5” (Medium-High) FRAGRANCE:Grape WEIGHTS:12-16 lbs. SKU:TGO My layout: 4 3/8” x 4 7/8” x 1 3/4” My PAP: 4 5/8" over 1 5/8 up The Reign On from Storm is a hybrid reactive ball that comes out of the box 4000. This is a ball that took me a while before I decided to add it to my tournament bag. I heavily favor solid balls, so pearls and hybrids often take a back seat to balls like Marvel S’s and IQ Tours. I tend to use the Reign On when my IQ Tour Solid starts to go straighter in the back. The Reign on stores more energy and therefore turns the corner harder then the IQ Tour does. The Reign On has opened up the pocket for me a number of times when the IQ Tour was burning out. The Reign On isn’t the first ball out of my bag due to its cover, but it does fit nicely between my IQ Tour Solid and IQ Tour Pearl. I have watched high rev players destroy the lanes on numerous occasions with this ball. Like I said it took me a while to get to know and like this ball, but I feel it is really worth looking at. Even though they are some newer Storm and Roto Grip Balls on the market today, the Reign On deserves to be part of that buying decision. I give it a 4 on a scale of 5. Some people like me won’t be using the ball every day, but if you bowl tournaments you are going to come across lane conditions that call for Reign On!

Lay Out: 5" from PAP at 60* PAP angle and 40* VAL angle. Dual angle measurement would be 60/5/40. The pin ended up about 1/2 above my ring finger with the CG very slightly swung out from the ring finger. No weight hole yet, but plan to put one in the P2 section Surface: I am box finish which is 4000 abralon. Purpose: I wanted to drill up this up to try to get something that I could start closer to the oil line with but wouldn't overreact if sent a little wide. Lane Condition Observations: I have thrown this on a couple of different house patterns: 2 different volume/length house shots on Pro Anvilane. The Reign On was only out of it's element on the lower volume shot; It just labored thru the front and didn't have much pop on the back. On the more puddled shot, the Reign On is strong enough and I need to keep it online thru the oil to keep it from leaving rope tens and nines. Response to Friction: The Reign On in box condition is a medium response ball. This one looks to be versatile enough to go pin up or down if needed. Other Ball Comparisons: I threw it with my Deranged, Lucid, & Byte. Compared to my Deranged, the Reign On is much more earlier off the spot and needs more oil or it will labor at the break. The Deranged gets a lot more length than the Reign On. My Lucid is still 4000 box and it gets up earlier in the midlane than the Reign On. I could probably dull the Reign On to 2000 to get it earlier than the Lucid. The Byte makes a good ball to go down from and go away from the pocket more. Final Thoughts: The Reign On gives me the impression it could be a benchmark type ball as I know right away whether to go early/stronger (Lucid) or later/stronger (The Byte) right away after about 4-5 shots.

Storm Reign On PAP-5 over and ½ up Ball Speed: 15-17mph Rev Rate: 300-500 Right Handed Layout: 4x4x2 Surface Preparation: OTB What I wanted from this ball: I wanted a pearl version of the Reign of Power Result: Exactly what I expected from this ball. A pearl version of my Reign of Power with a good length down the lane and a smooth controllable roll toward the pocket. Compared to the Reign of Power, the Reign on gives me the length I need to get the ball down the lane and have a good consistent smooth motion towards the pocket. I tested this ball on our home wood lanes with our house pattern. Our house pattern is a pretty tough shot with dryer heads in the middle portion of the lane creating a huge early backend reaction for most and a massive out of bounds from the first arrow out. There is a small hold area around the 8 board but you cant miss inside or out. The first set of 3 games on a freshly oiled pair, I quickly found out that I cannot play deep inside with this ball without really putting a lot on it. Over the 3 game duration, I migrated right until I ended up around the second arrow playing pretty straight up. Over the course of the next 5-10 games, I continued to stay around the second arrow with just a minor migration to the left with my stance and kept the same line and angle to the pocket. I also found out that If I throw this ball a little too firm, I tend to wrap a corner pin. Once I settled down and started stroking the ball up the shot, I found the Reign On to roll very consistent and predictable. To sum this ball up, I expected much more backend reaction than I got, but ended up being happy with the length and consistent smooth roll to the pocket. I will utilize this ball on dryer lane conditions definitely or when I want to play a more straight up shot. Pro Shop Reaction: A pretty good selling ball so far. My storm customers are slowly but surely buying this ball to compliment their Reign Of Power balls. Recommendations: I would definitely recommend this ball for a dryer lane conditions or a snappy backend. This is a good ball to use when you want to calm down your shot and play a baby swing or straight up and have consistent control. The Reign On will not disappoint. For me this ball is later than the Reign of Power and more of an arcing backend motion. I have mine drilled pin above my middle finger and the cg below my ring finger. As I am left handed this ball allows me to stand more left than the Reign of Power and play a little straighter and if needed I can move right and open the lanes. I haven't had the chance to throw this on a sport pattern yet but I am confident that it will perform as I want it to.

Storm Reign On Ball Review This ball is something different. All of the balls with the Reign core in it have been more forward or roily for me. This ball is right along those same lines. I can see this ball being really, really good for high rev guys who feel like the Hyroad Pearl, Lights Out, or Freak’n Frantic are too angular for them. This is one of the smoothest balls in Storm’s lineup. I have drilled one so far and love it. I drilled it with a very simple layout, 5 x 4 ¾ , no hole. This puts the pin just under my bridge and the center of gravity just above my thumb with a slight shift. My immediate reaction when throwing the Reign On is that it will be great for the first game or two of league. If you see your ball change direction too hard when the lanes are fresh and you leave a lot of splits, this ball will be a much different shape. Because it’s so smooth, it will keep you out of trouble. Picking up single pin spares are a lot easier than splits! Or if some asymmetrical balls are too strong for you, this a strong, symmetrical shape that will NOT change direction too hard. If you do drill this ball, I would recommend using a Hyroad Pearl, Deranged, Lights Out, Freak’n Frantic after this ball starts to labor. A great benefit with the Reign On is it will tell you when to put it back in the bag. Once some oil gets starts to move farther down the lane, that is when you can switch to a cleaner, more angular ball to give you those hits! This ball rocks one of my favorite scents, GRAPE! Plus, I enjoyed the Reign Supreme and unfortunately it was killed by machine damage as I sat on the front 18. So of course I was excited to see this Reign On coming! The center I used the Reign On at runs a 42’ pattern with plenty of oil and this ball handles it just fine. The Reign On is not challenging to project down the lane as some want to think because of the matte finish. Off of the spot, this ball has that heavy move that the bowlers have come to expect from the C.A.M.™ core. It does not go sideways but you know it will get there without a doubt. So far, I’ve been using this ball on the fresh at league and despite not bowling any crazy games it keeps me around the 230 mark as it doesn’t fall prey to the over-under that comes from bowling on a THS. For me, I hit this ball with an old 1000 grit pad and a little polish which has increased the back end motion for me. For me, the surface adjustment is helping the ball retain its energy which has increased my carry. The Reign On is a hair smoother than the Reign Supreme but will give you all of the versatility you remember from the Reign Supreme.

My Reign On Layout: 70 degrees x 5" X 2" (30 degrees)

When the Reign On was announced I was pretty excited to drill one up. I really liked what the Reign of Power gave me for a look on under/over house shots but especially at the 2013 Nationals in the team event. I felt like I had the whole lane with the Reign of Power.

My favorite attribute of the Reign of Power is it's smooth reaction and the fact that it doesn't immediately react to the dry and overhook or stop. As much as I like that reaction at times on under/over house conditions it's not always ideal. The Reign On will give me an option when the Reign of Power is just too smooth and need a little extra reation downlane. By comparison I would say the Reign On gives me 3 to 4 more boards of backend when compared to a similarly layed out Reign of Power.

Admittedly I have not used the Reign On as much as I would have liked the last month plus because the Byte has dominated my ball selection during that time. However, I have switched to the Reign On a couple of times later in the block when I had only the 55 degree Byte and it became too angular for me and couldn't stop leaving a 9-pin with it. The Reign On allowed me to move just a couple boards left and smooth out the reaction enough to finish the set.

Conditions I have used the Reign On on: I have preferred my ball reaction with the Reign On on AMF lane surfaces. I have used the Reign On on three different house shots/lengths on AMF HPL versus the couple of times I have tried it on Brunswick Pro Anvilane with a 43' house shot. However, keep in mind this is with a 70 degree x 5" layout, I have just drilled a new Reign On with a pin-down 55 degree x 4 1/4" layout which should work better on longer pattern/harder lane surface. I haven't had a chance to try this layout on the Brunswick surface yet but I will this week and will report back the results.

I have however tried the new layout on a 43' medium-heavy sport shot over the weekend and the ball handled the length and volume very well so I expect good results.

Where the Reign On fits in my bag: The Reign On is in between my Marvel-S/Reign of Power and my IQ Tour Pearl.

When I use the Reign On: I would use the Reign On when my Marvel-S or Reign of Power are too much ball (too early or just not finishing through the pins) but there's a little too much oil for my IQ Tour Pearl.

The NEW Storm Reign On breathes new life into the Thunder Line. The Reign On combines the always trusted C.A.M. Core and popular R2S Hybrid cover. Some compare this ball to the Reign Supreme but the Reign On is completely different animal. I used a 55 x 6" x 40 Dual Angle Layout, I have been using a lot variations of this layout. The 6" pin to PAP allows the weight block to delay its reaction before getting into the hook phase. This ball does start to roll in the mid lane but does not over react, The ball doesn't quit on its way through the pins. Please see my reaction video to see the Reign On in action. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tf46cfdaerM&feature=c4-overview&list=UUrHRnxGcI8rIOBnzv_-CTEA
