Storm Phaze V Ball Review by Ric McCormick
Storms newest addition to the Phaze Line from SPI the new Phaze V! This ball features the popular R2S Pearl Reactive Coverstock wrapped around the Velocity Core seen in the Phaze Line! Mine is drilled pin over my bridge Cg kicked and with the cover core combo this will give you a good compliment to the Phaze 2 when you need a cleaner more downlane motion! Who doesn't LOVE R2S pearl?!? I get excited every time this cover gets put on a new release. Obviously this comes on the back of the Phaze4 tournament exclusion, but I'm so glad this is the road Storm took! Comparing this ball to the Phaze4 is pretty easy, same cover, same core, just different colors! Does this equal different ball reaction...The answer is yes. The Phaze5 is a bit earlier and more rounded. I actually like this motion, I even leaned on mine with a fresh 3000 to make it dig a little more! This ball is right in the middle of the line up for me, I still used the Phaze4 all the time but I like the box surface on that one. Layout for the Phaze5: 4x5x2 Other balls getting a lot of play: Dark Code-4x6x2 Night Road-4.5x4.5x3.75 Idol Cosmos-4x5x2 Wolverine Dark Moss-4.25x5.25x2

The Phaze 5 is the return of R2S Pearl on the Velocity core. The result is a great blend of entry angle and control. The cover gives this ball length, while the core helps it pick up in the midlane and continue through the pins. This ball is great as a ball down from your big asyms or solid symmetricals. The milder straight reactive pearl formula of this coverstock means this ball is in play on a lot of different lane surfaces and conditons. This ball fits a great spot in the bag for many different styles. Go to your local pro shop and pick one up. You won't be disappointed! -Chase Valenzuela YouTube Channel: Millennium Bowing Supply

Storm Phaze V Layout: 4.5 x 4 x 2 Storm Pin Buffer Layout Rev Rate: 325 rpm, 7 degree of axis tilt, 40 degree of axis rotation Testing information: 41 foot THS (medium to light volume) Bowling Center: Fulton Bowling Center Kegel Machine – Brunswick Anvilane The Storm Phaze V utilizes the Velocity Core and R2S reactive coverstock. This great looking, great smelling, new release is much anticipated. Here is a fact that I wasn't aware of. The Velocity Core was used in the Storm El Nino 2000. Now I understand why I had a lot of success with the El Nino 2000. The Phase V is what I have been looking for in that transition ball. I have had a chance to use it in league and tournament. The Phase V is very clean in the front part of the lane with a strong move on the back end. I have been using it in Games 3 and 4 of a 4-game league. It is my ball down from the 900 Global Altered Reality. The new Storm Fate is also an option in this ball reaction category. Visit your local Storm VIP Pro Shop! #Stormnation #SquadRG

I've been throwing my Phaze 5 in league for a couple of weeks now. Like many, I assumed it was going to be the Phaze 4 under cover. It's not, and that's OK. Fortunately, I still throw my Phaze 4 regularly, so I can see a direct comparison. The first thing I noticed was a cleaner push through the front of the lane. I'm positive that's due to the addition of the Reacta Gloss finish. Otherwise, like the other Phazes... this ball continues the benchmark of being one of the most aggressive symmetrical balls on the market. Loving what I'm seeing and if you're wondering if this would be a wise replacement for your Phaze 4 at events where that ball is banned, I'd say YES. Is it a 100% clone? No. But you can rest assured that Velocity Core and R2S pearl cover are every bit the winning combination you expect them to be.

Core: Velocity Cover: R2S Pearl Finish: 1500-grit Reacta Gloss polish RG: 2.53 (14 lb) Diff: .0.050 (14 lb) Me: Right-Handed Tweener Speed: 12-13 mph Rev Rate: 315 PAP: 4 7/8 Right 3/8 Up Ball Layout: Pin over Bridge 5 1/8 Pin to Pap 2 1/2 Pin Buffer The new Storm Phaze V is the latest release in the Master Line of bowling balls. Like the previous Phaze releases it features the Velocity Core, paired this time with the legendary R2S Pearl. I have yet to throw a ball with this core or this cover that I don't love so the combination has had me very excited since it was announced. This is the first Pearl release in the Phaze like that rolls exactly like I would expect a Pearl Version of the Phaze II to roll. It is clean through the front of the lane and makes a strong even motion in the back-end. It's certainly not as responsive to the friction as the Phaze 4 was, which helps extend the window that it hooks in down-lane. The result is a perfect ball to transition too when your phaze 2 is seeing too much of the middle part of the lane but you still want to control the down-lane reaction without having to worry about the ball not saving energy. I have thrown the Phaze 5 for a few weeks now on our longer heavier house pattern. It is certainly strong enough to close angles down a bit and throw it on the fresh but it's fantastic when the lanes start to transition. My favorite ball motions when you start to see the transition are the ones that let you know the lane is changing without making you pay with a 5 count for not seeing it coming ahead of time. This ball is perfect for that. It also responds well to hand position changes which will keep you in the ball for much longer than you would expect. I see this ball being a staple in tournament bags to compliment the Phaze II. If I find a condition where I don't think it's useful, I'll let you know but it hasn't happened yet and at this point I would be greatly surprised.

The Storm Phaze V is the newest ball in the master line. This is the same cover formula as the Phaze 4 just a different color variation. The Phaze V is going to give you a very clean look and a nice move on the backend. This ball is going to be a great transition ball when your Phaze 2 or Zen soul is not retaining enough energy through the pins. If you had a Phaze four that you did the exchange for this is going to be your replacement. The ball is just a touch longer and has a touch more pop. Reacta gloss is also the new polish formula and gives a nice tacky feel. If you weren't a fan of the polish this ball is very good with surface adjustments. The Phase V is Storm's latest addition to the Master Line. The Phase V is a mirror image of the Phase 4, however, this Phase V is covered in the storm's new "polish" Reacta Gloss. I have had the opportunity to throw this ball a few times and I can already tell that this ball will go with me wherever I bowl! The Phase V is clean and angular, you can use this ball on a number of different patterns. This ball will be a good step down from a Zen and a step up from a Wolverine or Idol Cosmos. I have a strong feeling that this will be the best Phase yet! Do not miss out on this great ball, go out and get yours today!

Storm Phaze V Ball Review Ball Specs: R2S Pearl Coverstock MY PHAZE V > Surface Changed to 500 Abralon with Polish Layout: 4 x 4 x 4 Storm VLS Ball Tester: Scott Anderson PAP 4-1/2 Right 5/8 Up Rev Rate 450+ Speed at release 19 Review: The Phaze line of bowling balls has been a mainstay in the Storm line for years now with the longevity and success of the Phaze 2. The original Phaze had enough bowlers striking that the rest were no brainers. The Phaze 5 fits right into the line where the others couldn't find a home. Utilizing the new Reacta Gloss finish, this ball is the first in months to come out of Utah with a shiny finish and it doesn't disappoint. I've been a big fan of the Infinite Physix since its release, and it seems to get even better the more it's thrown, and the lane shine starts to take effect. In comes the Phaze 5 which doesn't have to wait! The polished finish helps it clear the heads much cleaner later in the block and still offers that strong continuous motion we've come to know and love from strong Storm symmetrical bowling balls. Where the Infinite Physix stands up, the Phaze V just keeps going. These two balls are great compliments to one another when it comes to shape and strength, so why not get both I your bag?

The new Storm Phaze 5 features the R2S Pearl Reactive coverstock wrapped around the highly successful Velocity Core found in the Phaze 2 and 3. The Phaze 5 features the new Reacta Gloss factory finish. The RG at 15lbs is 2.48 and the differential is .051. This ball complements the Phaze 2 quite well. For me, the Phaze 5 is the longest and strongest of all the Phazes. The pearl coverstock gets this ball down the lane even further than the Phaze 3 and the backend is definitely more angular than the other Phazes as well. The Phaze 5 allowed me to stay closer to the friction all night and to my surprise did not overhook when I missed to the friction early. This ball is actually a little longer than I expected so I hit the ball with a used 3000 abralon pad just to get the box finish off and the result was exactly what I was looking for. It started up about a foot sooner and smoothed out the backend reaction. The Phaze line has produced another winner with the release of the Phaze 5.

This new Storm Phaze 5 is what I was hoping out of the Phaze 4. It contains the famous Phaze core, wrapped with the R2S coverstock which is on the HyRoad Pearl. This ball is cleaner than the Phaze 4, quite a bit actually, which gives it way more pop and continuation down lane. This ball will be coming out of my bag on house shots and when the lanes are hooking quite a bit. For me, the Phaze 5 with its current finish fits between my original Wolverine and my Wolverine Dark Moss. It is going to come out when the lanes are hooking, but with most shiny balls, can be used earlier if you apply some surface to it. You will not be disappointed in getting this ball as it is exactly what we needed!

Phaze V – WWRD 10/21/2022 Storm's new Phaze V is a Symmetrical piece that is good for Medium lane conditions. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Fragrance is Blueberry Crumble. Drilled this piece with the Pin to the right of the Ring and CG in the palm. Out of Box motion didn't turn the corner but after I hit it with 2000 then 3000 it rolled a lot better. Clean through the fronts with a smooth continuous backend reaction. Compared to the Phaze 4, this layout on the Phaze V is similar through the fronts but smoother on the backend.

Layout - 5 x 30 Surface - Reacta Gloss The Phaze 5 is the replacement for the USBC discontinued Phaze 4. The Core and Cover combination are the same, but the new Reacta Gloss finish creates a slightly different reaction for the Phaze 5. The Reacta Gloss offers the same clean through the front and strong midlane roll that we expect from the Velocity Core but gives a more rounded and more continuous shape than the Phaze 4. The Phaze 4 gave a more angular backend reaction when compared. I find for my game, that the more rounded backend shape a ball has, the more use it allows for me especially as the lanes become more wet/dry. This is a more ideal shape for most bowlers in today's environments. My league pattern is around 44 feet in length with medium volume. I tend to use stronger asymmetrical cores to start and then ball down to more angular symmetrical cores. The Phaze 5 for me is a great step down from the new Super Nova. The Phaze 5 provides more length in the front and more angle down lane while keeping me in the same zone with my feet. Those who use a Phaze 2 will also see similar results. The new Reacta Gloss finish should bode well with most league conditions and bowling styles as it reads well in the oil and is slightly smoother off the dry boards compared to the Phaze 4. Those who bowl on more oil can take the Reacta Gloss off to see a stronger and smoother overall motion. Adam Chase Storm Staff

Phaze V • Master Series Core • Velocity Core Coverstock • RS2 Pearl Reactive Finish • Reacta Gloss Weight • 15 lbs. RG • 2.48 Differential • .051 Layout • 4 x 5 x 2 Tester PAP • 5" R, 5/8" D Tester Axis Tilt • 11° Testers Rev Rate • 325 Test Pattern • 42' THS (Typical House Shot) • Modified, Kegel Stone Street The Master Series by Storm strikes another success with their release of the Phaze V. And in this new chapter to the Phaze line, the Storm Phaze V brings some powerful results. The Phaze V is built on the strong and reliable Velocity Core and wrapped with a blue and black version of the RS2 Pearl Reactive Coverstock. The Phaze V is a great ball. So, let's take a closer look at what's behind the Phaze V's success! The Velocity Core is the consistent pulse in all of the Phaze line! And being a straighter player, I like how the Velocity Core rev's briskly in the mid-lane without losing its inertia when striking the pocket. Additionally, I can rely on the Velocity Core to remain consistent through the hook and roll phases, providing me with a ball motion that is dependable and stable. And lastly, I like that the Velocity Core doesn't overreact to a bad shot off my hand. With its smooth and reliable nature, the Velocity Core provides a lot of forgiveness I can depend on when my release is not at its best. The blue and black RS2 Pearl Reactive coverstock is the ultimate compliment to the Velocity Core. The RS2 Pearl provides smooth traction in the mid-lane and has a clean yet, crisp turn off the pattern. Further, the theory is the color blue is the most consistent in motion. And the blue/black mixture in the RS2 Pearl proved that theory to be true! I liked how the RS2 Pearl cover was smooth and predictable as the lanes transitioned. It blended the breaking down conditions effortlessly and stayed consistent all night. And instead of becoming "jumpy" or erratic, it provided a reliable motion I love to see and count on at any time during competition. With the all-new "Recta Gloss" finish found on the Phaze V, I decided to roll the Phaze V with its new box surface, and I was pleasantly surprised at its results. Of course, being a high-speed/low-rev player surface is my friend. However, with the Reacta Gloss finish, I found a great blend of traction and length in my ball motion. High-luster polished balls can go too long for me, and too much surface can cause the ball to roll out and flat ten. But I found the Reacta Gloss complimented my release and gave me an excellent balance of skid, hook, and roll all night long. And when you have balance – you bring score! So, in conclusion, the Phase V is an excellent release by Storm. And with the winning combination of Velocity Core, RS2 Pearl Coverstock, and the all-new Reacta Gloss finish, the Phaze V will deliver results for many different styles of bowlers. And to those high-speed and low-rev players like me, the Phaze V will become the ball in your bag that you know will get the job done every time. The Phaze 5 on paper is a direct replacement for the Phaze 4, being the same combination of the famed R2S Pearl cover and very popular symmetric Velocity core from the Phaze series. However, the similarities begin and end on paper. The Phaze 5 is cleaner and rounder than the Phaze 4, it's rolly rather than chuggy, and while the Phaze 4 tended to jerk-stop, the Phaze 5 revs more so it's ready to hook when the ball hits friction. I couldn't explain why there's such a significant on lane difference in the ball reactions, but it exists. The new Reacta Gloss finish on the Phaze 5 doesn't seem to feel or react any differently than the previous 1500 grit polish finish, when compared to other balls that react similarly to the Phaze 5 like the Trend and Idol Pearl, there's no discernable visible, physical/feel, or reaction difference in our opinion. If you liked the previous factory polish, you'll be happy it's back, if you didn't, you'll be back to knocking it off like usual. The Phaze 5 is a pleasant surprise that's a straight step down from the Phaze 2 and acts quite a bit like it from a general reaction standpoint. It's very versatile from left to right, and while it does seem to need a little more friction than it acts like it should when you start adding angle, it's an exceptional transition ball. It'll be usable and very popular for most bowlers on their regular league conditions, and surprisingly effective on tougher ones.
