Storm Hy-Road Max Bowling Ball

The Inverted Fe2 weight block has historically had a higher RG orientation. The higher the RG, the more resistant the ball will be to changing direction as it travels down the lane. NeX first made its debut on the Axiom™, the newest touchstone from which all other balls are compared. The finishing touches clock in at 3000-grit Abralon, which has become the benchmark standard of surface profiles. As you can see, there’s more to every ball than meets the eye.

Storm Hy-road Max Rg. 2.57 Diff. .046 Layout 5 ½ x 3 x 2. The Hy-Road Max Hooks. When I drill a Hy-Road I expect it to be long and controlled down lane. The Hy-Road Max has the same shape as the original Hy-Road, just gets into a roll earlier. I used it out of box and it was too much, so like I do with most bowling balls I shinned it and it rolled better. The Hy-Road Max with shine rolled better on drier house conditions and on conditions where there was defined hook right. Bowlers with faster ball speed and lower rev rates love the Max with surface. As a Pro Shop Operator, I experimented with a polished surface change for a lower rev rate bowler and it was definitely preferred with the box finish. The ball rolled well over all with or without the surface adjustments, when I see the word "Hy-Road" I expect to see a Hy-Road shape. The Hyroad Max is the latest ball from Storm that features the Inverted Fe2 weight block that has been so successful over the past 15+ years. Hyroad Max uses the strongest cover (NeX Solid) to date of any ball that shared the Inverted Fe2 weight block. The 3000 grit box finish gets the Max to pick up in the oil with ease. Hy-Road Max has a color combination of emerald and lime, and takes me back to yester-year, and reminds me of the Bolt solid. The Hyroad Max has an Rg of 2.57 and a differential of 0.046 in 15lb balls. I drilled the Hyroad Max with a 4.5 pin and 4 pin buffer. Comparing the Max to an identically drilled All Road, the Max starts creating traction much sooner and creates more hook in the midlane and through the backend. For a bowling ball with this strong of a cover, it is amazing that it can still continue downlane even though it reads the oil so well. The only ball that comes to mind that created this kind of motion throughout the entire lane was the Reign of Fire. One thing that I have noticed is that I do need to keep the cover free from oil with my shammy, to keep the consistent move throughout the lane. The Hy-Road Max has been useful on some longer, heavier patterns while keeping my hand up the back of the ball, and can still get through the front of the lane and reduce overall motion when putting my hand in a position to create a little more "spin" on medium pattern volumes. I like the Hy-Road Max. I was a little nervous to drill it at first because my history with strong covers on high Rg balls hasn't been the greatest, but the Max works. With my ball speed and rev-rate, the Hy-Road Max will have the right time and place to use it. Thank you for taking the time to read my review of the Hy-Road Max. Bowl up a Storm!

Hy-Road Max: Thunder Series Coverstock: NeX Solid reactive Finish: 3000 Grit Abralon Core: Symmetrical: Inverted Fe2 Technology RG: 2.57 (15lb) Differential: 0.046 (15lb) Layout: 4 x 3.75 x 2.25 Tester PAP: 5 1/8 R, 1/2 D Lane Condition: Medium – Heavy Pattern Review: 42' Typical House Pattern The Hy-Road Max is proof of why Storm is truly the "Bowlers Company." With the combination of the Inverted Fe2 Core and NeX Coverstock, the Hy-Road Max delivers from laydown to impact! Let's take a closer look at this THS review from a straighter, older, thumb-in-the-ball, bowler. The symmetrical Inverted Fe2 Core rolled quite cleanly off my hand in different lines. I liked that when I played straighter (up 5) this core took its time rev'ing up while retaining a whole lot of energy at the pins. Moving a bit in (up 10), I enjoyed how this core was smooth and predictable with a motion that I could depend on. Further, I could move in deeper (15) and, even with my lower rev rate and higher speed, the Fe2 Core retained its energy and brought a strong impact at the pins with little deflection. I admit that I really like seeing those 10 pin kickers! The NeX Coverstock was the perfect choice for the Hy-Road Max. I found this solid cover blends smoothly in different conditions and performs well under different situations even after tweaking the cover to 1500 grit. On fresh oil, this cover cleared the heads crisply and still maintained a well-defined motion. I liked how this cover nearly predicted when it was time to make a move as the night went on. In a late night burned up condition, the NeX cover stayed consistent through the lane. I loved its smooth motion even in spotty and frustrating conditions you get from plastic and urethane. In conclusion, the Hy-Road Max is an excellent choice for bowlers that are down and in, higher speed/low rev and have a little hand to put into their game. This ball is predictable, stable and quite reliable. The Hy-Road Max will keep you in the game. I suggest you keep it in your bag! Storm Hy-Road Max Core: Inverted Fe2 weight block Cover: NeX Solid Reactive I started with my Hy-Road Max on the two different house shots I see most often. One is pretty heavy for house, the other your typical dry house shot. The Max was a little too weak out of the gates on the heavy shot, too aggressive on the dry one. I tinkered with cover a bit but still didn't love the reactions I was seeing. I tossed a couple sport patterns and finally found some success. When I needed a the ball to start earlier and stay controllable, the Max finally lined up. I think this may just be a bad match up for me. I haven't had much luck with the Hy-Road line (aside from the Hy-Road Pearl)...which seems crazy with all the success of the line. I have drilled a handful for customers and have had no complaints. Maybe not the best for me but, like most Hy-Roads, this will be a good ball for many different styles.

Introducing the brand new Storm Hy-Road Maxx! The new Hy-Road Maxx features the NeX Solid Reactive Coverstock that is previously seen in the Proton PhysiX and, Axiom wrapped around the famous Hy-Road Core! This ball for me is a different ball motion then seen in most Storm balls, it gets through the front part of the lane easily because of the Core and, the Coverstock allows it to read the midlane and, also be very smooth downlane! This ball is very strong still for as slow as it rolls for me for when I need something I can control the backends with.

The new Hy-Road ball is called the HyRoad Max. Great shelf appeal with the bright lime green in color. Storm added the very strong Nex solid reactive coverstock. I drilled mine pin down with 5 inch pin. I also applied Storm Reacta Shine to surface. For me the Max needs some oil up front, as it rolls pretty early for me. To be honest it so far has been a little conditional for my roll. When its on its pretty good, but when its not I just need to choose a different option. On a side not, bowlers with higher ball speed love this ball as it keeps the ball from going through the breakpoint. I need to bowl more with the Max and on some longer patterns where it should shine. Brian Watson PAP 4 up 1 1/8 RPM - 400 Speed - 16-17 Tilt - 17

I am so glad I ordered this ball as it is absolutely amazing. The Hyroad Max is smooth through the front, pops on the backend and continues through the pins. The center where I bowl the lanes are oily to start so I am able to start the night with this ball and keep moving my feet left as the night goes on. We only have four on a pair during league so there is some transition but not a bunch so I have not had to move too far left. I really like the shape this ball gives me as it is something I did not have in my bag. I think this ball is going to be a great tournament ball for me as well especially if the lanes are oily or when they start to break down. With my lower rev rate when I have to move inside I have to ball up. The Hyroad Max will be a ball that I can ball up to play deeper on the lanes. The Hyroad Max will be a ball that is in my bag for league and tournaments. I am heading to the Open Championships at the end of June. The Hyroad Max will definitely be coming with me to both of those tournaments. I look forward to seeing what this ball gives me on the house shot when it lanes shines but also to see what it gives me during tournaments. Sabrina Groves Storm Amateur Staff

LANE CONDITION Length:41 Volume:Medium Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):THS COMMENTS Cover: NeX Solid Reactive Core: Inverted Fe² Finish: 3000 RG: 2.57 Differential: 0.046 The new Hyroad Max is the newest solid added to the infamous Hyroad line. It uses the new NEX cover with the same famous Hyroad core. For me, this ball out of the box was just too much up front, with not enough down lane. After applying some Storm Pro Finish step 3 to the cover, I have not looked back. The ball now gets through the front part of the lane with ease, has plenty of midlane roll, then unleashes on the backend. I couldn't help but notice just how much it continued through the pin deck, keeping the pins low, and with that the carry has been phenomenal. I can usually start the night with this ball, but usually has to be put away by game 3. This ball sits nicely between my Reality and my shiny Incite. This ball will definitely be getting use in some upcoming tournaments.

Storm Hyroad MAX - NeX solid coverstock - Inverted Fe2 core 3000ab grit finish from factory - 5000ab grit for testing- layout - 60 x 5 x 35 On older HPL panels with super wet fronts and sparky backends I practice and bowl league on 1 night a week the reaction was a little calmer then I though it would be. I attended several ball demos where this ball was a BEAST . I decided to enhance the coverstock to 5000ab grit to make the ball float on the front part of the pattern and not burn up in the front part of the lanes like my Axiom did with the same NeX cover and similar layout. The ball ultra smooth in the transition part of the lane and silky through the pin deck. Very predictable with the NeX coverstock at 5000ab. The next generation of HyRoad is here and it strikes to the MAX!!!

Storm Hyroad Max Ball Specs: Cover stock NeX Solid Reactive Fe2 Symmetric Emerald / lime – Green Apple Scent Finish 3000 Sanded Bowler Specs: Right Hand. PAP 5" Over 1/2 up Rev Rate 300. Tilt 20. Rotation 50. Speed at cameras 15.5 Review: Storm has added another ball to its popular Hyroad line. This ball fits pretty much right between my IQ Tour Nano Pearl and my Proton Physics in total hook. The color is eye catching and I like the Green Apple scent added to the ball. The Max did not get as dirty from the lane as I would have expected after rolling a few games. The Hyroad Max has a very smooth arch type motion. I did not see much back end on a regular house shot or a more modified house shot. I did not alter the surface yet, but plan on trying some polish to perk up the back end after I play with the box surface fir a while. I can see where this ball would blend out a difficult lane condition or let you control the pocket on a wet / dry pattern. I feel this ball will be good for people who want a lot of control in their ball reaction. Summary: The Max has a very controllable ball motion. The color and scent are very appealing. This ball could be the one to bail you out on a difficult pattern. Video Link: https://youtu.be/Ail8mmxHQWA Glenn Wendel PBA Member Storm Pro Shop Staff gwendel@comcast.net www.stormbowling.com

Ball Specs: Storm Hy-Road Max Coverstock: 3000 NeX™ Solid Reactive Weight Block: Inverted Fe² Technology™ Core (Symmetrical) Color: Emerald/Lime Review: This eye-catching addition to the Road line is the most aggressive yet. Taking this famous weight block and wrapping it with the NeX cover allows this ball to turn early and continue through the pins with ease. If you have thrown the Axiom then you will find that this ball is a little more aggressive overall, with a sharper turn from breakpoint. For solid cover stock lovers, this will be a great fit as it is versatile enough to open up the lane by moving left, or being that first out of bag before balling down to a less aggressive solid or hybrid cover. So far this ball has been very popular in the shop, possibly because of shelf appeal, but more importantly living up the 'Road' name. The Storm Hy-Road Max has a unique combination of a core that produces high RG and strong coverstock. These properties create a ball motion that you do not see with other bowling balls. This ball is also very eye-catching. I chose to drill my Hy-Road Max with a pin up layout: 65 x 5 ½ x 30. Knowing how strong this coverstock is, I went with a longer PIN to PAP distance to reduce some of the flare potential. Since the coverstock on this bowling ball is so strong, I find this ball to have a very smooth and controllable ball motion. Even though this NeX coverstock is very strong, the Inverted Fe2 weight block allows me to still move my feet left and open up the lane a little bit more than expected. I can see myself using this ball quite often on longer patterns in bowling centers with slicker and newer lane surfaces. This bowling ball looks good on higher volume patterns. The Hy-Road Max also deals with wet/dry conditions very well as the strong coverstocks helps to blend out the over/under reaction.

Extremely smooth when exiting the breakpoint. For the most part solids are normally smooth but when I throw the Hyroad Max it really is the definition of smooth. Really controllable down lane and you can really tell where this ball is going to end up. The new Hyroad Max is stronger than any of the other Hyroads because Storm put the NeX coverstock on it which makes this ball pick up earlier. If you had a Hyroad before or want to try one now this is the ball for you. This will help take your bowling to the MAX!!!

The Hyroad max is one of my favorites after I've thrown a few games and gotten the Nex cover a little bit of lane shine this ball if a monster once it gets going. I have found that this will look really good on the medium to long patterns when there is friction to play with it will get snappy down lane. not really a fan of this cover brand new out of the box it just really felt like it didn't have the extra umph to turn mind you I have a lot of hand and medium speed. I had a lot of success with the Hyroad solid and when this ball shines up I really feel as if its that with just a little bit more hook on the heavier patterns.

Hyroad Max The Hyroad line has always rolled well for me so I was very excited to drill the Hyroad Max. The Max has the same core as the other Hyroads do in the Inverted Fe2 but features the new NEX cover that is on the Axiom and Proton Physix. This combination creates the strongest and earliest Hyroad yet! I drilled mine with a 2.5" pin with a 1.5" pin buffer. The reason I chose this layout is because the NEX cover is very strong and also very smooth, so I wanted a layout that would highlight that attribute of the Hyroad Max. Thankfully, the Hyroad Max rolls just as I expected. It picks up the lane quickly and is very smooth down lane. It reminds me a little bit of my original Roto Grip Idol. For my game and layout, the Hyroad Max is best going up the lane when I need a slower response ball that will not overact on the back. I have heard some say that adding polish to the Hyroad Max allowed them to get in and shape it a little more as well. But I really believe the Max is best utilized as a slow response benchmark type of ball in your bag.

Hyroad To The Max The Storm Hyroad Max is the ball that gives me a much earlier roll and stronger overall version of any Hyroad I've thrown. It has a smooth transition between when in the oil and going to the dry. It has the NEX solid reactive cover which is the same cover as the Proton Physix and Axiom. Putting it with the Hyroad core gives you a little less ball compared those two higher performance balls that could be a little too much at times. I drilled mine 5x3x2. I shined mine with Storm Pro Finish Step 2 ball polish. This gives me the length I need to get thru the front part to save energy on the backend. If I bowled on more oil or on flatter patterns then I would keep it at factory 3000 finish. This ball reads the midlane very well and has a strong finish. My PAP is 5-1/8 and 1/8 up. Usually around 15-16mph, I'd probably be classified between and tweener and cranker.

The Hyroad Max features the classic Inverted Fe2 symmetric core wrapped in the Nex solid coverstock. The combination of the higher RG core and the aggressive coverstock makes a great choice for longer oil patterns. For me the box finish of 3000 grit makes this a ball to use for when I need to close my angles and go straighter up the boards. This allows the Nex coverstock to do what it's designed to do. The ball starts up very early and really reads the midlane with a strong continuation on the backend that you are used to seeing from the HyRoad line. The pin carry for the HyRoad Max when playing straighter lines was excellent. The trouble I ran into was when I had to really chase the oil line inside and open my angles quite a bit. The ball really struggled to turn the corner in these situations and tended to leave a lot of weak corner pins. Adding some polish to the coverstock really helped with this situation. Once it was shined, the HyRoad Max really opened up the lane and had no trouble turning the corner from the deep inside angles. For me the Max will be better suited with the box finish and give me that strong rolling ball for closed angles.

For me, the Hyroad series has been hit and miss with my tweener style as high RG, rollier balls sometimes doesn't match up to my style. I will say I was pleasantly surprised by how the Hyroad Max rolls as it is much bigger off the spot than I anticipated! I decided to take it up to 3000 and get some lane shine built in to get the ball down the lane better for me. I will say that this ball is a situational piece when my Phaze 2 or Axiom are too early and my Hybrids still miss the spot, that's where this piece comes in. I fell I can play down and in or open it up a bit with this piece. And the smell is something terrific so bonus! Go see your pro shop and ask about how the Hyroad Max can elevate your game! Layout: 60 x 4 7/8" x 35 The HyRoad Max has a unique ball roll that I am enjoying far more than I did with previous sanded HyRoad line balls. Neither the HyRoad Solid nor HyRoad Nano rolled well for me at all – it felt like the strong covers were fighting against the high RG core system. That is not the case at all with the new Max. The cover is strong enough to handle a lot of oil, but the core allows it to not burn up too much energy in the front part of the lane. My home house does not put down much oil, but I am still able to use this ball for at least the first two games. This is a very versatile ball that I see being used in a lot of situations, except for true dry lane conditions.

Looks great, smells great and hooks a ton. For me the HyRoad Max is super strong and slow. I don't have to worry about it jerking off the spot because it's strong enough to use early on a pattern. For me the Max is a little better off the blend or something tougher. On the cliff it tends to want to under read the oil and over read the dry. But with a little blend it's versatile enough to use early and often. Since it's so slow you'll eventually have to get out of it because it won't corner enough but that's usually not right away. The HyRoad Max is a great new version of the HyRoad.

I drilled up the MAX at 70 x 4.5 x 25 and also took the thumb an inch deeper to spread out the flare more. I have thrown it at box, 2000 abr, and at 5000 smooth. The MAX for me is early and sets up in the pocket. With the higher RG/med diff core, this is a different and more nichey motion for my 275 rev rate. Comparing it to my PROTON PHYSIX and INCITE, the MAX is definitely later in it's motion. Both the PROTON and INCITE rev up faster and get out of the oil quicker. For me this one was better when the spot started to burn and a 4 and 2 left was a 2-4-5 reaction. I could just ball down to the MAX and throw at the oil line and get it to roll and set until the smoother cover balls came into play.

Drilling pattern: 90 x 6 x 41 Pin position: Above and left of ring finger PAP: 4.5 over and 1 up So after taking a look at my arsenal I noticed I didn't have any solid balls with long pin to PAP numbers and had been running in to issues of balls burning up on the high friction surfaces in my area. Talked with the PSO and decided to throw a 6" pin to PAP on this ball to try and make sure the ball gets down lane, even with the aggressive surface on this ball as I left it at box finish, and retain its energy for increased hitting power. Oh boy did it deliver. The notorious back end motion of the Hy-Road line was again evident as the ball made a very strong turn at the break point. I haven't used this ball on a house pattern yet however when bowling in our challenge league (40 foot KEGEL Mercury oil pattern) the surface provided some forgiveness when I missed out making sure to dig in and still get back to the pocket. This ball will fit great in my arsenal between my earlier rolling solids (900 Global Aspect) and the strong pearls (900 Global Zen) when additional traction is needed in the mid lane but that "pop" is still needed down lane. Cover: NeX Solid Reactive Core: Inverted Fe² Finish: 3000 RG: 2.57 Differential: 0.046 ME: Right-Handed Tweener Speed: 12-13 mph Rev Rate: 315 PAP: 4 7/8 Right 3/8 Up Ball Layout: Pin under Ring 4 1/2 Pin to Pap 3 1/2 Pin Buffer The newest addition to the Hy Road family of bowling balls is the aptly named Hy Road Max. The Inverted Fe² core that has powered what may be the most successful line of balls ever produced is again featured. The chosen coverstock for the Max is the NEX cover that was featured so successfully on the Axiom and Proton Physix. The nano formulation creates a max amount of friction and the continuity of the Inverted Fe² creates a unique shape for the cover so far. I tested the Hy Road Max on a fresh house condition. I threw one practice shot, turned around to a buddy I was practicing with and told him, "this ball is smooth with 15 O's". The drilling I chose stretches the transition of the ball as it goes down-lane. With my lower ball speed my worry was that had I chosen a layout where that move happens faster that the high friction generated by the nano cover could cause the ball to roll out. I was very happy with the results as I could square the ball up on the oil line and really control the downlane reaction. I can really see this ball being great for me on higher volume patterns. It is so consistent in the mid-lane that I feel like whatever angle the ball needs to take off the friction, I can be confident in my ability to get it there where I need to. I do think that for lower speed players longer pin buffer layouts are going to be preferable. This ball really looks great for the high speed/high rev players. Its very responsive to surface changes and hand position changes.
