Roto Grip Sonic X Solid Bowling Ball

(6 reviews) Write a Review
The Sonic X Solid is Roto Grip's newest addition into the entry level market. It uses the same Sonic "Boom" Core from the original Sonic X with a new solid reactive coverstock. This High RG / low Differential weight block gives you that predictable look at the breakpoint and smooth continuation on those lighter oil patterns. This combination of coverstock and core will drive your game beyound the sound barrier.

this ball was very good. on dry lanes it is very predictable and not jumpy. it skids through the heads. it had a smooth mid lane roll and a smooth backend move. this is a good dry lane ball. this ball should not be used in oil it will just keep skating down the lane and not flip at all. so this ball is not the ball that you should start with on a regular house shot. if it is a short oil pattern then i encourage you to use it. if only they still made this ball. the price on this ball was great. i was very satisfied with it

This ball is OK for the price but it didn't keep it's reaction long. The coverstock showed more damage more quickly than any other ball I have ever owned. I do not normally buy solid reactive balls, but the specs on this ball seemed to indicate that it would work well for medium to dry conditions. It did but having to resurface a ball after only fifty or so gsmes is absurd. Even though the purchase price is good, the cost of this ball is forboding due to it's need for constant resurfacing. If you need a dry lane ball, go with one of the low end Roto-Grip pearl balls. They will give you what you need and won't cost an arm and a leg for maintenance.

The first thing I must say is that this ball is not what I expected. I know the ball is matte, but it is promoted as a great light oil ball. Out of the box, it was too strong for light oil. I haven't polished it yet because it turned out to be a great medium oil ball. This ball needs oil and it needs some dry boards somewhere ( what ball doesn't ). I was very surprised at the way the ball starts to read the midlane. I can only play very deep with this ball on a typical house shot. Nothing right of the third arrow. I bought it thinking that I could play up the track with it. I know if I polish it that would give it extra length, but I love the way it rolls right now. What I did was polish up my X Factor and my Too Hot. Now the Sonic X Solid out hooks the X Factor. It was about even before the polish. Now there is a 2/3 board difference with my feet. The X Factor still has a monster backend (that's why it is still my favorite). They are both drilled the same. pin above ring finger about

Specs: 14# 4oz, 3oz top. Drilled: 45° Pin; up 3 1/8", right 3/4", 3 5/8" to PAP MB; down 3 1/2", right 2 3/4", 4 3/4" to PAP Weight hole; 1/2" past VAL down 1 3/8" Let me start by saying I am very impressed with this ball. It glides through the drier with no effort at all yet has a great read of the break point. Played on a fresh Cristmas tree pattern that is flat to 18' then tapers to 17-23 @ 38' buffed out to 44'. For comparision I also rolled a few frames with my X-Factor (3 9/16" pin X 4 1/4" MB 40°) and Phenom Unleashed (4 1/4" pin X 4" MB 35°). With the same release I had to play 12 @ arrow with my X-Factor. 17 @ arrows with my Unleashed, and straight up 5 with my Sonic to have the same break point (5). The Sonic stayed dead straight to the break point and made an aggresive but controlled arc to the pocket. I played this line for 6 games before having to make a 1 board adjustment because I started leaving 4 and 9 pins only left 3 10s in 8 games. I never expected t

This ball was handed to me by a good ol buddy of mine and it was drilled for him full roller and man does that ball give roto grip a good name cause I have another roto piece with the same drill.Anyways Ive only played this ball on wood lanes and I usually stand around 25 swing it out&up to about 12-15 sometimes I ll make a mistake and it will slide out to about 10 comeback like a brickwall. I recommend this ball for people who are looking for a weak decent solid piece and cash is not a problem.

This ball is 16lbs, drilled 4x4 stacked because it is pretty weak, but don't let the stats fool you, this ball is too strong for dirt. The Solid X is very even, smooth, and controllable to say the least. If you use this ball on lighter or reverse blocked conditions you shouldn't have any trouble getting the job done. I use mine on second shift wood with short oil/reverse blocked patterns. If it is blocked then I move real deep and roll the ball over my target and the ball will glide back home. You can play any part of the lane with either Sonic as long as there is enough dry to get them to turn over. Although too much dry may start them early as well, because some people may drill theirs stronger. These two Sonics will hit and carry as good as any high price equipment on the market too. Overall this is a great lighter oil ball and my first stab at Roto Grip. I'm impressed to say the least.
