Primal Impulse

(4 reviews) Write a Review
The new Primal Impulse is the first skid-flip ball from MOTIV. It is very long and clean down the lane with a fast backend transition and incredible drive through the pins. When you want to swing the ball across the lane on a beat-up oil pattern and have it unleash off the dry, the Primal Impulse is the ball you want in your hand.

INNER CORE: Impulse V2 COVERSTOCK: Whiplash Solid Reactive FINISH: 4000 Grit Sanded WEIGHTS: 16 15 14 13 12 RG RATING: 2.54 2.55 2.56 2.60 2.67 RG DIFFERENTIAL: .049 .050 .054 .055 .040 FLARE POTENTIAL 5"+ Review: The Primal Scream is built to be very clean down the lane with a vicious backend motion on medium to heavy oil. It features the dual-density Impulse V2 core, which has been newly engineered to provide a 2.55 RG and .050 differential. This symmetric core provides the perfect amount of length so the Whiplash Solid Reactive shell can unleash on the backend. The Primal Scream delivers outstanding entry angle and bull-dozing continuation through the pins. I drilled my Motiv Primal Scream 65 X 4 1/2 X 45 and kept it at box surface which is 4000. I have to honestly say this thing is a backend monster!!! I really like to use this ball when the lanes break down from fresh and I am forced to move left and open my angles up. The angles I can create with Primal Scream is absolutely amazing. This best part about moving left with the Primal Scream is that I never sacrifice carry! This ball has become my new favorite "IN" ball so to speak. It compliments the other recent backend monster by MOTIV in the 2 Cruel. The main difference is that the 2 cruel is stronger overall. My 2 cruel picks up a bit sooner but then makes a strong backend motion towards and thru the pins. The Primal Scream is definitely more angular than the 2 cruel, it gets great length and then makes an angular "check mark" type move towards the pins. You will never see a ball with a solid coverstock be as angular as the MOTIV Primal Scream. That is a fact. Don't waste anymore time and Get MOTIVated!!!!! I was really looking forward to drilling this ball, knowing I would now have everything I need in my arsenal. This ball demonstrates a reaction that MOTIV has never offered before. Yes, this ball creates a very skid/flip reaction…it will get down the lane…and it will go sideways when it sees friction. The Primal Impulse is similar in length to the QZ2 Back Draft, but it responds off the friction much, much stronger. The backend is not comparable to anything MOTIV currently offers, this ball can cover every board on the lane if necessary. The Primal Impulse isn’t lane condition specific, but as long as you can find the friction, you will find yourself throwing this new ball from MOTIV. My first session with the Primal Impulse was on a fresh house pattern with a synthetic surface. If you have a chance to look at my video you will agree, I wouldn’t even need to give another ball a look. For me, this ball is designed to really open up the lane or broken down conditions. The further I moved in and the further I got the ball out, the harder and more violent the ball would come back. I tend struggle when I play in deeper and cover too many boards, but this ball helped me get better entry angle, even with me being more up the back of the ball. I did a very aggressive layout as I create natural length with ball speed, there is a picture of the layout in my video. You can see my video here: http://www.youtube.com/user/MOTIVmags?feature=mhee The Primal Impulse is a great sidekick along with MOTIV’s benchmark ball, the Sigma Tour. If you are looking for a ball to open the lane up even more than the Sigma Tour, drill yourself a Primal Impulse! MOTIV Staff Member Mike Magolan

Bowler Stats-Ball Speed 17 MPH Rev Rate-App 275 Axis of Rotation-30 to 60 degrees Axis Tilt 22 degrees Right Handed The Motive Primal Impluse is designed for medium patterns for those who like the skid/flip reaction. The core is a new design for Motiv and it works as advertised. It pushes through the heads with ease even on semi-burnt heads, and waits to rev up on the back end. The move to the pocket is very angular, and for someone with a higher rev rate than me, the angularity would be even sharper. The change in direction is very sudden. As soon as the ball hits friction, it noticeably slows down and changes direction. The Impluse allows everyone to play very deep and wide angles, which is a completely different look then Motiv has ever presented. I have successfully used the Impulse playing the track area when the shot was fresh, and as well as in tournament play when the heads have started to go. As long as there is sufficient oil in the heads, which is less then most balls require, the ball will get down the lane and turn the corner. It is a strong addition to tougher condition arsenals. I look forward to throwing it at Nationals this year. The Impluse, as with all of the recent Motiv releases, does not seem to have a surface preference as it reacted well on all bowling surfaces on which I have used it. The surface of the Thrash takes and holds changes to surface of the ball very well. The ball also holds up very well to repeated use. I had to play with the cover a little to get it to match up to my game, but once I got it matched up, it was a great piece of equipment. Other bowlers have expressed the same experience to me. If you use this ball as designed on medium oil patterns, it is a very effective ball. It will skate if the oil is too far down lane. The Impluse gives Motiv a piece of equipment for Motiv believers who wanted a skid/flip ball. I'm very colorblind but I've heard from multiple bowlers that the colors are very interesting. First of all I'm thrilled to see this site in operation. It was only by a mistake in my keying that I came across it .. last I heard the site was down and OUT! The first few times out with the IMPULSE I was ready to put the ball away forever. I was on a HIGH ROLLERS shot and the ball was a flop (for me). I had the ball in my car when I went (un-planned) to a different house. I used the ball and got excellent results, This was more a typical house shot maybe medium oil. The balled rolled with a nice arc over and over. I have this ball quite a while now but this is my first review on it .. Since my good outing I haven't missed taking the ball to a bowling alley .. most shots I'm on are med to light .. love the ball and would recommend it to anyone ..my guess is with the right drilling it can be used on heavy oil!
