The Spike core is double tapered. Starting at the bottom and going upward the taper opens as it gets to the top. This design gives the ball a very Strong Roll. At the close of the taper there is a neck that is extended and a Flare Cap is added to give the ball more Flare Potential. The SPIKE Reactive Urethane is Faball's most aggressive Reactive to date. The Factory Polished Spike Red cover contains Red Mica Crystals and give the ball Traction. Traction on the lane surface creates hook. Marvel at Spike's uncomplicated design. Developed for it's best performance on Medium to Light oil Lane Conditions, Spike is a Heavy Rolling ball with plenty of Hook and plenty of Back End.

15lb - 4 inch pin - drilled label leverage - pin at 1:30 At first I didn't think I would like the ball. With the factory finish it set up early and had a really flat backend. I polished it to 2500 and put a weight hole 8 inches straight out from the CG. ( this reduced the positve side weight yet maintained the top weight) The ball now go's long with a decent back end. The carry has always been OK, but if you want good carry you really have to incerease the angle to the pocket. Best results - Light oil to dry - really hit it and cover every board on the lane. The bigger the angle the better the carry.

Since I acquired the Spike for merely the price of drilling (a left over from one of my Pro's "Ball of the Month Club" members), and I wanted a dry/scorched lane ball, I thought I'd try something different. The Spike is drilled 5.5 x 3.5. The pin is above my middle finger, and cg is above and right of my ring finger. A balance hole resides 2" past PAP in line with grip center. This ball clears the heads well, as long as there is even a trace of oil. It doesn't snap to the pocket, but rather makes a gradual turn. When it hits the pocket, pins fly. The Spike core may be my favorite core all time (for carry purposes). I wish Hammer would've expanded the Spike line a bit. While this is a good ball for me on dry lanes, I quickly move to other options when there is any reasonable amount of oil out there, or carry down is prevalent. I just don't feel this ball recovers enough (as drilled) to play the oilier shots. If I had to do it again, I'd try a stronger drill pattern (say 4 x
