900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl Bowling Ball

Building on the overwhelming success of the original Harsh Reality, a pearl version is a much needed addition. We kept the colors intact from the Harsh Reality Solid for the fans of the series and crafted the pearlized version. This is currently the only polished/pearl asymmetric and will be the most explosive backend reaction in the 900 Global lineup.

The Harsh Reality Pearl is the Pearl version of the original Harsh Reality. Also the 4th ball with the Disturbance Asymmetric Core. Plus with the addition the A.I Technology. I drilled mine pin down 4.5x.4.x4 and added Storm Step 2 to the cover. I personally have the HRP obviously a little cleaner than original HR with the pearl cover. But I really think the Harsh Reality's are pretty early rolling bowling balls. Thus pretty slow response down lane. I have drilled a few in the shop for bowlers with lower rev rate or faster ball speeds. They have had great success and really good ball motion. With my unique roll the HRP is a little conditional at times. But I can use the HRP on the flatter sport patterns to help control the pattern with the smoother overall ball motion. The HRP is still beneath the Ion Max and the RG Gems. But above the Phaze 2 and Idol series balls. Hello everyone and welcome to another Beyond the Arrows Ball Reviews brought to you by Striking Results Pro Shop, Bowlifi and Turbo 2 n 1 Grips, today we will be reviewing the new 900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl. The Harsh Reality Pearl has a low RG value of 2.48 which means it will rev up early and a medium differential of 0.054 and a high intermediate differential of 0.019 which will have a slightly sharp change of direction on the backend. The HRP isn’t the pearl version of the solid Harsh Reality, in my opinion the second coming of the Altered Reality. The HRP has the Reserve Blend 902 cover stock finished with Reacta Gloss and features a similar chemical composition of the S84 Response Cover as the Reality. The 902 Reserve Blend coverstock is wrapped around the Disturbance A.I. Asymmetric Core which features the same unique single density inner core as the original Reality, however the outer core is the groundbreaking A.I. Core. You will notice that the RG is lower, the differential is higher, and the intermediate differential is higher when compared to the original Reality. This means that you will see a similar shape as the original Reality, but with more overall performance on the heaviest patterns. I did a ball comparison to the 900 Global Altered Reality and the Storm DNA Coil on a 42 ft house shot, 25 ml of oil. In comparison to the Altered Reality, the HRP is a little bit earlier and al little bit sharper on the backend due to the AI core. If you wanted to have both in your bag you could but I would change the surface on one of them to have some variance between them. In comparison to the Storm DNA Coil, the HRP again is earlier and sharper but the Coil is cleaner through the mids and not as sharp on the backend which makes the Coil a little more versatile on an array of conditions. As per the surface adjustments, the HRP comes out of the box with Reacta Gloss which is 500>2,000>4000, reacta gloss which goes long but will be great on the medium to dry conditions. On heavy oil the optimum surface would be a 500 grit Abralon. In the bag, will be the Roto Grip Gem, HRP, Attention Star and Sublime Please pick up a 900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl at a Striking Results Proshop near you and please like and subscribe to my page Beyond the Arrows Ball reviews. Even though the Harsh Reality and Harsh Reality Pearl don’t look significantly different while sitting on the shelf, when they go down the lane, they are two completely different monsters. I had a lot of success with the original Harsh Reality so when word got out that a pearl version was being produced, I was excited to throw it. In most of these reviews, I mention how lane beds continue to get worn down and the level of friction continues to increase, making these balls with pearl covers much more frequently used. I’ve drilled on HRP so far and really like it. It’s mapped out as 5 x 4.75 x 2. This puts the pin near my bridge and the mass bias just to the right of my thumb. I’ve also left the surface alone at the box finish (reacta gloss finish) and it rolls great. Most of the patterns I bowl on are less than 25mls so the HRP has been the first ball out of my bag during league and tournament play. It compliments the line extremely well. It’s a lot cleaner and has a quicker response time compared to the Ion Pro Max and it’s definitely stronger than the Summit Ascent. If you need a big core with a pearl coverstock that can be used on several types of lane conditions, the Harsh Reality Pearl should be the next ball you drill!

The 900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl is an exceptional option for high-revolution bowlers looking for a ball that thrives on various lane conditions. Built with the same core as its predecessor, the S74 core, it provides a strong mid-lane read and impressive continuation through the pins, perfectly complementing my high-rev style. The pearlized 902 Blend coverstock enhances its performance, offering a smoother and quicker response on the backend while maintaining excellent traction on medium to heavy oil patterns. When I take the Harsh Reality Pearl to the lanes, its ability to generate a powerful and predictable hook really stands out. It performs brilliantly on fresh oil and adapts well as the lanes transition, allowing for confident shot-making throughout the game. This versatility makes it a vital part of my arsenal, whether I’m competing in a league or just looking to improve my skills. Overall, the 900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl combines advanced core technology with a high-quality coverstock, making it a fantastic choice for bowlers seeking a reliable performance. While it may require some adjustments on lighter oil conditions, the strong hook potential and smooth motion it provides for high-rev bowlers are hard to beat. If you're searching for a ball that can elevate your game, the Harsh Reality Pearl is definitely worth considering.

The 900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl is the latest entry in 900 Global’s revered lineup, following the original Harsh Reality. The Harsh Reality Pearl retains a visually striking aesthetic, with a vibrant pearl finish that glistens under the lane lights. Its colors not only provide visual appeal but also serve as a good indicator of its performance: it stands out on the shelves and indeed promises excitement on the lane. The core of the Harsh Reality Pearl has the new 902 Pearl coverstock. This allows it to glide smoothly, providing a more effortless reaction when transitioning to the back end when compared to the original Harsh Reality and the 902 solid coverstock. Both models utilize the same high-powered AI core. What sets the Harsh Reality Pearl apart is its enhanced angle at the breakpoint. Bowlers will notice a more aggressive angular reaction on the backend, making it ideal for players who thrive under heavy oil conditions but still seek that explosive backend turn and carry. One of the most noticeable differences between the two balls is how easily the Pearl maintains energy through its travel. In contrast, the original Harsh Reality, while still powerful, can sometimes burn energy too quickly on the backend. The Pearl’s extended length and moderate backend hook provide a user-friendly bowling experience, especially for bowlers looking to control their moves without over-revving. In conclusion, the 900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl does an exceptional job of building on the strengths of the original. While both models are fantastic choices for bowlers seeking performance on oily lanes, the Pearl is notably more versatile and capable of adapting to a broader range of lane conditions. Its smooth glide through the heads, coupled with a stronger backend reaction, gives it a unique position in the lineup, making it a worthy addition for bowlers looking to step up their game. If you loved the original Harsh Reality but occasionally found it limiting in some conditions, the Pearl version could be the upgrade you’ve been waiting for. For competitive bowlers seeking an edge in versatility and hook potential, the 900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl is highly recommended! Sean Daniels 900 Global Staff Hillsboro, Oregon

900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl Coverstock: Reserve Blend 902 Pearl Reactive Box Finish: Reacta Gloss Core: Disturbance Asymmetric A.I. Core RG: 2.48, Diff: 0.054, PSA: 0.019 (15 lbs) VLS Layout: 4 x 4 x 2 Dual Angle Layout: 40 x 4 x 35 PAP: 5 3/16” right x 5/8” up Rev rate: 400 rpm Average speed: 16.5 mph Location: Prairie Lanes, Sun Prairie, WI Pattern: Medium volume THS The folks over at 900 Global have outdone themselves again with the release of the Harsh Reality Pearl. The new Harsh Reality Pearl (HRP) is the pearlized version of the original Harsh Reality (HR). It features the same Disturbance Asymmetric A.I. core as the original HR but is wrapped in the Reserve Blend 902 Pearl Reactive coverstock. Even though the HRP is a pearl, it’s still an extremely aggressive cover and will require a fair amount of oil on the lane to be thrown. I used a pretty standard 4 x 4 x 2 layout, which for me is a fairly strong layout that provides a little length up front with plenty of midlane read and a strong continuous backend. I typically scuff shiny balls with a 2000/3000 Abralon pad, but given the strength of the HRP I decided to leave it at box finish with Reacta Gloss. Often times pearl balls become pretty over/under on typical house patterns given the amount of oil in the middle and dry to the outsides, but the HRP was plenty strong enough to dig through the soup in the middle of the lane and still make a strong move off the friction without over-reacting. Seemingly the deeper I moved on the lane, the better the HRP looked! Compared to the original Harsh Reality, the HRP gets down the lane much further and retains more energy for the backend. The Harsh Reality Pearl a great complement its solid predecessor; when the HR starts getting lazy and leaving weak hits you could easily make the ball change to the HRP. The Harsh Reality Pearl is an excellent option for bowlers looking for clean reaction through the front part of the lane, strong midlane read, and an angular backend reaction. Ball Specs: Global Harsh Reality Pearl 902 Pearl Reactive Cover Reacta Gloss Polished Disturbance Asymmetric Core Layout 4 x 4.5 with 2” Pin Buffer Bowler Specs: Right Hand. PAP 5” Over 1/2 up Rev Rate 300. Tilt 20. Rotation 50. Speed at release 17 Review: The original Harsh Reality is one of my favorite strong solid cover balls so when I heard a pearl version was coming out I was pretty excited. I like that the color scheme is matching the solid but with a logo color change. The test for me would be if this ball would replace my Exotic Gem as my strong pearl. The short answer is yes! The Harsh Reality Pearl has more hook and backend than my Exotic which says quite a lot. The Exotic may still see some play from time to time but I am pretty sure the Harsh Pearl will bump it out of my main bag. I have been dealing with a hip issue so I did not do a video on this ball but I should have. The Harsh Reality Pearl carried hits that I should not have. What I though would be a weak 10 the 6 pin turned sideways and chopped out the 10 pin. I need that with my lack of revs. The Harsh Reality Pearl could be used on multiple patterns but you may need to start it in the oil then just trust it. This ball does the heavy lifting for you. I think have seen a positive difference in hit with the A.I. technology in this particular ball. If you need a very strong pearl get this ball! Summary: This is a very strong pearl ball from Global. The Harsh Reality Pearl provides a lot of hook and back end. The carry and hit of this ball is exceptional. Glenn Wendel Storm Pro Shop Staff gwendel@comcast.net www.stormbowling.com Video Link:

Sam Cooper. Roto Grip Amateur Staff. The 900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl. To me this is the strongest yet usable pearl ball that I have thrown. I know a great deal of people liked the Roto Grip Exotic Gem. That ball did not match up well with me honestly. I see this ball most useful when balls like the Roto Grip Attention Star and Storm Virtual Energy Blackout are too clean but when you need something to get through the front part of the lane. The Harsh Pearl is the ball for the job. It reads the midlane more than any other pearl ball, but does not read the fronts too much. Plus this ball has great shelf appeal and looks great going down the lane. When I first got mine I went to throw it on a house shot with the reacta gloss on it. For me it had a hard time hooking or was inconsistent on where it hooked. I took the shine off with a 3000 pad and the ball came to life. You can tell that this is the earliest of the asymmetrical pearls from SPI. This has the most rounded reaction out of the pearl balls. There is something about the way this ball goes through the pins I have noticed(when the operator throws it properly). Something about the way it kicks the ten out is noticeable to me. I have yet to try this ball on a sport pattern but look forward to when I can. If you are in the market for a strong pearl bowling ball take a look at the Harsh Reality Pearl from 900 Global!

Global – Harsh Reality Pearl 14-pounds Layout 5.5x4x2 Style – stroker Ball Speed – 14–15 mph at pins Condition – house pattern - HPL surface Surface – box condition I’ve not had much success with recent Global products. The last one I really matched up with was an Xponent. Whether it was poor layout choices on my part, unable to find surfaces to match up to what I wanted to see, nothing was going right. I decided I wanted to give the Harsh Pearl a shot. Went with a little longer pin and buffer than I normally would. After I dropped down to 14 pounds, I drilled my first couple of balls too strong trying to compensate for the difference in RG and differential numbers. I wanted to see what going in the opposite directly would do. My initial impression of the ball is its pretty rollie for me. Gives me a little blend off the dry. In box condition, it was a little too clean for me. Put it on the spinner and used a 2000 pad to take the shine off the ball. Motion suited my eye more with the surface adjustment. It’s not going to be nearly as clean or angular as my VEBO. Giving the appearance of more versatility. However, I’m not going to be able to play the oil / keep it in front of me. I will need to see some dry down-lane to ensure motion through the pins. As I said, it does blend some wet/dry for me. But I did anticipate a bit stronger motion even with the weaker pin for me. This is one, I’ll get some additional games in with and probably make additional surface adjustments. I’m not certain who I’d recommend this one for. I can see the extremes where someone with a very low rev rate could play the dry in box condition and see higher rev rates being able to play the puddle but would anticipate them having to take off some polish to do so unless you’re rev dominate with slow speed. Us folks in the middle, I think there could be different options for better overall performance.

The latest addition to the 900 Global product line is the Harsh Reality Pearl. This features the same great reality core surrounded with AI technology and wrapped in the 902 batch pearl cover stock. When this ball was announced at bowl expo I was really excited for this release. The Harsh Reality Solid has become a stable in my bag. With the addition of the Harsh Reality Pearl is a great compliment. I drilled this ball using the layout 60x4.5x35 this ball is super clean and very forward for me. It allows me to get left with it when becomes too strong and I can still get through the pins correctly. I would recommend this ball if you’re looking for that big pearl to add to your bag.

ok all, this ball is a pearl beyond no other. For myself, I had to hit it with a 3000 pad. It just was a little to much of a hockey stick hook for me. So hitting it smoothed it out just for me. I tried it on a few sport patterns during the summer leagues , and now that the fall leagues are starting up. its a nice ball indeed to follow the Solid Harsh Reality. If the harsh starts to hook a little early, you can grab the Harsh Pearl to take its place. Its an awesome 1-2 punch to have in your bag. Keep in mind the lane shine, so its always nice to clean your equipment and get the surface of the bowling balls how you like them.

900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl Cover: Reacta Gloss Reserve Blend 902™ Pearl Reactive Core: Disturbance™ A.I. Core (Asymmetrical) Color: Orange/Silver/Black Review: 900 Global is really hitting the mark with their releases and we are excited for them to add another BIG and STRONG asymmetrical bowling ball. The original Reality which in our opinion is probably the best 900 Global ball every made and will look even better with the A.I. core technology. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). This ball is a monster pearl, yet still holds the predictability and versatility like we see in the SPI brands. This ball really holds a lot of energy and continuation through the pins even for burning up so much energy so quickly. This core is simplistic yet beefy and we love it for that reason. 2000-3000 grit pads really change the design and shape for some of our tournament players and compliments this cover very well. We look forward to drilling several of these bowling balls. And If you were a fan of the original Reality, get ready for the next-generation Pearl version! The Harsh Reality Pearl starts with the original Disturbance Core and is now wrapped with A.I. Technology, making it the strongest Disturbance Core yet. And when you combine that with the Reserve Blend 902 Pearl coverstock, you have another 900 Global striking success in the makings! So, let's take a closer look at what makes the Harsh Reality Pearl so amazing! The Original Disturbance Core was developed for the Original Reality. And From its beginning, the Disturbance Core had an exceptional motion for straighter players like me. I liked how the Disturbance Core built momentum in the mid-lane without burning itself out by the end of the pattern! And now, with the A.I. Core technology surrounding the Disturbance Core, the Harsh Reality Pearl has an intense amount of energy that simply destroys anything in its path! And if you are a straighter player like me, you will love the Disturbance A.I. Core's relentless pursuit to keep steam-rolling and finding the pocket! Even further, I would say that if you are like me and tend to miss right in those crucial moments - relax—the Disturbance A.I. Core has your back. You can count on it to deliver the results for you! Let's talk about the brilliant mixture of Reserve Blend 902 Pearl coverstock! I couldn't ask for a better Pearl Reactive for my straighter and low-rev game! Mind you, for my review, I started with a 3000-grit Abralon finish, frankly, because the factory Reacta Gloss finish doesn't work for me. However, with a 3000-grit surface on my Harsh Reality Pearl, the Reserve Blend 902 Pearl was outstanding! Straighter players will love the Reserve Blend 902 Pearl's ability to be clean through the heads yet find a smooth biting traction in the mid-lane. And I was impressed with how the Reserve Blend 902 Pearl was able to see the lane early and not over-skid because of my lower rev rate. Further, I liked how the Reserve Blend 902 had a crisp and clean motion off the pattern without being over-sensitive to friction or squirrelly in spotty conditions. Lastly, I would say that as the original S84 Solid Coverstock made the Reality a solid powerhouse. The Reserve Blend 902 Pearl makes Harsh Reality Pearl the explosive must-have sister! In closing, 900 Global has done an outstanding job creating the Harsh Reality Pearl! Because the Harsh Reality Pearl is NOT just another "Reality" with a different coverstock! Instead, I would boldly say that the Harsh Reality Pearl is a stand-alone monster that continues the Reality Legacy that will keep you striking worldwide! Posted by Joel Eyssen on Sep 3rd 2024

This ball is an improvement on the original Harsh Reality. The one thing me as a pro shop owner and bowler heard about the original harsh was that it was too early, I can’t use it for long, I have to up the surface by a lot. When hearing this, it tells me the ball is very specific and if I can only bring three balls I dont want to just have one for limited use. Hence the Harsh Reality Pearl it is a strong asymmetrical pearl with all the characters of its predecessor but improved upon with the pearl coverstock. This cover allows the harsh to get up the lane further before it begins to hook. Giving you the extra length you needed from the original. This ball is great on the fresh and because it is a pearl ball you can still move left and use for more of the block and not just game one. A great upgrade to the original.

The Harsh Reality Pearl is a strong asym pearl from the Roto Grip lineup. This ball will be the strongest pearl out the bag where there is typically more oil volume. This ball is stronger than an exotic gem although is similar in nature of it being a slower transitioning ball. This ball can be used on the fresh house conditions and or transitioned off of the stronger solids as a transition ball.

I did make a surface change to 1000 grit than used smooth edge to sheen the ball, both my Attention Star and Harsh Pearl are the same surface. The overall ball motion is what I would call slower or smooth, it doesn’t respond to the friction too quickly which helps me get the ball down lane better while still keeping the lanes blended when my solid asymmetric option is too much ball. Players who will like this ball will be players who are looking to have a ball up from the Attention Star and trying to play the lanes a little straighter.

The Harsh Reality Pearl is a great compliment to the Harsh Reality. It gives the same strength the original Harsh Reality does but with more length. This ball will also give bowlers room to move left and shape the ball with no fear of it recovering. 900 Global has really been coming out with some great balls and including the AI Core really separates them from the rest. With coming back from injury this ball has given me something I might end up needing towards the end of the night when I need to move in.

I drilled up my HARSH REALITY PEARL with a pin up layout of 4.5 x 4 x 2.5 layout. I have tweaked the surface with a 2000 pad lightly to get the initial gloss from the cover. The HARSH REALITY PEARL was meant to be my strong pearl in the bag. I wanted a ball to use when the volume was higher or the pattern longer but had transitioned to where the strong solids were getting too forward but the asym pearls were too flat. I put this one up against my ATTENTION STAR and EXOTIC GEM. Compared to the EXOTIC, the HARSH REALITY PEARL is a little longer and smoother in the back end of the lane. The EXOTIC is still one of the earliest rolling pearls I have ever owned and the HRP doesn't change that opinion. Compared to the ATTENTION STAR and the HRP is a lot closer in shape and reaction. The ATTENTION is more forward for me but that is also the layout and surface prep I keep on the ball. I feel that the HARSH will be a good ball to play off the ATTENTION STAR for my bag because it will get thru the dryer developing fronts without going sideways at the break point. Put this one in your bag if you are wanting a smoother option to your ATTENTION STAR or your EXOTIC GEM is starting to show signs of ageing, and you cannot find a replacement for it. But hit it with more surface if this is the spot you are trying to fill in your bag.

The harsh reality pearl is the strongest asymmetrical pearl in my arsenal. The harsh reality pearl will pick up in the oil where other pearls will skid and miss the breakpoint. I compared it to the harsh reality solid and the sublime. The harsh reality pearl will create more length than the solid with more backend but still handle the heavy oil and it will read the midlane better than the sublime with more backend. So if your looking for a replacement for a replacement for your altered reality but in a stronger version the harsh reality pearl will be a great option.

900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl Coverstock: Reserve Blend 902 Pearl Reactive Core: Disturbance Asymmetric A.I. Core Finish: Reacta Gloss Layout: 5 ½ x 3 ¾ x 3 What I learned, enjoyed and struggled with: All new Harsh Reality Pearl, HRP for short, was a new kind of look on the lane for me, I am known to “milder” asymmetric core balls with shorter pin because they mainly are too flippy for my current ball speed and game, but I found the HRP to be a new tool to add to my current arsenal, not really replacing anything other than a ball that was overlapping something else in my current ball line. If you review my YouTube video, you will notice I was able to play in the normal track area and just my angles a little to stay comfort in my zones, I felt comfortable enough to teach myself something I wanted to learn but was afraid to try due to prior injuries and the lack of time to really work on it. Even at 54 years of age, with 2 almost bionic legs, I taught myself how to walk around the ball return and slide at the gutter cap on the right side of the lane. Amazingly, I only took a few missteps and kept on going. A practice session of 2 ½ hours is unusual for me due to my overall endurance. I quite enjoyed this practice session. Every adjustment I made with the HRP, worked well and rolled other asymmetric balls I had, and this one was the most reliable from fresh condition to quite played out condition. Now for what I struggled with: The ball seemed to hit the tracer board and move quicker from that spot, if I positioned the ball a few boards left of the tracer board; the reaction would be more delayed. Which should normally be reversed because it would be a drier condition closer to the gutter. I overcame this by getting the HRP crossing the tracer board rather than getting the HRP rolling directly through the tracer board. I hope this information helps you and please visit my YouTube page – Roto Grip Rick. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGytZwmlD4E

Ball Specs: Harsh Reality Pearl Color: Orange/Silver/Black Coverstock: 902 Pearl Reactive Core: Disturbance AI Asymmetric Factory Finish: Reacta Gloss Review: The 900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl is a standout addition to 900 Global’s high-performance line, delivering a powerful yet controlled reaction on the lanes. Building on the success of the original Harsh Reality, this Pearl version brings added length and a sharper backend, making it an excellent choice for bowlers looking to tackle medium to heavy oil conditions with confidence. One of the key strengths of the Harsh Reality Pearl is its versatility. It performs exceptionally well on medium to heavy oil patterns, providing enough traction to handle oil while still offering the sharp backend needed to drive through the pins with authority. Whether you’re a power player looking to open up the lane or a more traditional player seeking a strong finish, this ball adapts well to various styles and conditions. The 900 Global Harsh Reality Pearl is an excellent choice for bowlers who need a reliable, high-performance ball that can handle medium to heavy oil with ease. Finally, a pearl reality back in the lineup! This one features all the latest and greatest from Storm Bowling Products; the A.I. core technology increases the core dynamics and really makes this ball unique. The Reality core has always been smooth and continuous, and paired with cleaner covers it has always been a house shot killer and a great 2-ball on flatter conditions. This ball is no exception. The earlier and longer hook phase characteristic of the A.I. core paired with 902 Reserve Blend Pearl makes for a clean, smooth, tippy pearl asym that compliments the rest of the product line. If you love pearl asyms for league or need a new one in your tournament arsenal, or are just a Reality fan, this one is definitely worth checking out! -Chase Valenzuela

Layout on this one was 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 x 4. Gave me a nice pin down, early rolling layout. Heavy oil machine! Bowling in the collegiate level, you run into some pretty difficult shots. Whether it be super heavy, light, long or short. This one will tear up the heavier patterns with a touch of surface. Cleaner more down lane motion compared to the original harsh reality. Definitely a ball 1-2 in my bag! Go get one!
