Ball Specs: Storm Virtual Energy Blackout REX Pearl Reactive Cover Reacta Gloss Polished Shape Lock Core (Asymmetric) Layout 4.5 x 4.5 with 1.5” Pin Buffer Bowler Specs: Right Hand. PAP 5” Over 1/2 up Rev Rate 300. Tilt 20. Rotation 50. Speed at release 17 Review: The Virtual Energy Blackout gives me the most angular motion down lane that I have had in quite a while. The Blackout covers more boards than I was expecting from such a glossy finish. The Blackout gets down the lane nicely but does not go too long probably due to the ball being asymmetrical. The sharp motion on the back drives through the pins hard. This ball is great when you need higher entry angles. I still love black color bowling balls and the silver logos give this ball an elegant look. The Virtual Energy Blackout hooks more than my Fate but a little less than my Exotic Gem. I was very impressed by how this ball comes back from almost anywhere on a typical house shot. I carry some poor shots I don’t deserve due to the sharp entry angle of this ball. I did have a stretch where I kept leaving ring 10’s and at this point I switched to a ball whit a smoother shape on the back and the problem was solved. When I can use this ball in league, I will due to the recovery it provides, but like any ball you have to know when to change lines, speed, or release. I would recommend this ball to anyone who wants that hockey stick angular shape with a strong back end that most look for in a ball. The Blackout has already been popular at our shop. Summary: The Virtual Energy Blackout is a very angular ball. The core and cover on this ball match up nicely. This ball looks great and the Orange Pop scent is very nice!. • Storm Virtual Energy Black Out Ball Review by PJ Haggerty

Has there ever been a black ball that hasn’t been great? There have been so many produced by every company out there and I’ve noticed a common denominator… darker colored balls tend to roll extremely well. The new Virtual Energy Black Out from Storm fits that bill too. Several years ago, the Virtual Gravity line was produced and they were extremely successful. The masterminds at Storm decided to re-create one of the balls and created the Black Out. I’ve drilled two so far and have had success with both. The first one I drilled is a pretty standard layout of mine. It maps out as 5.5 x 4.5 x 75. This puts the pin above my bridge and mass bias just to the right of my thumb. I cracked the surface with a 3000 pad just to take the shine off. I’ve been able to go the Black Out after my DNA and Magic Gem do their jobs. It’s been a perfect ball to stand left, throw right, and create angle down lane. The second one I drilled is 5 x 3.5 x 40. This puts the pin under my bridge with a decent sized shift and the mass bias closer to my CG. I decided to put more surface on this one to try and use it earlier in blocks before the pattern blends. This has a surface of 1000 and it’s significantly earlier than the other one I drilled. It’s more forward down lane but still rolls great. This one doesn’t change direction as hard down-lane, but is very usable on multiple types of patterns. If you need an extremely reliable ball that can be used on different patterns, surface, and can handle different layouts, go drill the Virtual Energy Black Out! #StormNation

Storm Virtual Energy Blackout Coverstock: ReX Pearl Reactive Finish: Reacta Gloss Core: Shape-Lock HD Core (14 pd) RG: 2.53 Differential: 0.050 Int Diff: 0.017 Layout: 5 1/4 x 4 1/2 x 3 1/4 - 2LS Layout Extras: 2 1/8 Finger Depth, "X" - 4 1/2 D and 1 Inch Left Tester: PAP 6 1/2 R, 1 1/4 D Review: The Virtual Energy Blackout features the ReX coverstock. As a reminder ReX is a combination of two previous covers, R2S and NeX. This blend provides more skid/flip type reactions for the player and allows the ball driller to be creative in what can be achieved from a drilling perspective. For your medium medium/dry conditions the Virtual Energy Blackout is your answer. What has impressed me the most with this ball is that for a glossy finish that in general will provide sharper reactions the Virtual Energy Blackout is not overly skid/flippy where control is sacrificed. The ReX cover appears to blend this ball out nicely. I do prefer slightly scuffing my Reacta Gloss pieces and for this one I used a worn 3K Abralon pad. This slight modification worked out nicely on the Virtual Energy Blackout. As noted above, the Virtual Energy Blackout will shine in medium to medium/dry conditions. To bring to light a similar ball for Storm, the Dark Code quickly comes to mind. If you enjoyed the Dark Code, you will want to consider adding the Virtual Energy Blackout to your bag. For me, the Virtual Energy Blackout is much more balanced and does not "lock-up" for me like the Dark Code could do at times. I personally feel the Virtual Energy is miles better for me over the Dark Code. Be sure to grab a Virtual Energy Blackout today. Michael Slatky 900 Global Staff Member York, PA

The Blackout is the newest big asym to feature the REX Pearl cover. This cover has quickly become a staple in the storm family becasue of its unique ability to create midlane traction and backend motion. In this iteration, the cover feels cleaner and more responsive than the previous asym balls that featured this cover. On the lanes, this ball is the perfect first ball out of the bag. Its clean and quick enough to get the ten out, but strong enough that you can throw it on the fresh and still get it to pick up. This is gonna be one of the best balls of the year. If anyone knows how to do big pearl asyms, it's Storm!

Another Storm ball that I love! To start off with, lets say the Code Black. The Blackout, for me definitely has more back end than the Code Black. That makes this ball a lot more enjoyable. This ball reads the lane very well. If you watch the ball mid lane, it will tell you when to make a move a little deeper, or more towards the gutter. Then the back end...for me, its not like a hockey stick hook. Normally I hit a ball, (this ball had the Reacta Gloss Factory Finish) with a 3000-4000 pad. This I have not yet. I like it, I like it out of the box. It's a fun ball for sure and its BLACK! If I had to one word this ball....It's "comfortable" Very comfortable ball to have in my hand, and always in my bag!

Hey everyone, I'm back with another ball review, and this time it's for the Storm Virtual Energy Blackout! In 14 pounds this ball is wrapped in REX Pearl Cover and comes with a Reacta Gloss finish and an RG of 2.53, Diff of .050, and a PSA of .011. The newest Signature line ball brings us to a blast from the past. The Virtual Energy was a iconic ball from Storm and now we have the new Virtual Gravity Blackout by Storm. This ball is very clean and may need the reacta gloss scuffed a tad. I find myself using this ball in game three of league after using a ball like the Pi from 900 Global. The scent on this ball is Orange Pop and boy does it. I see the skid/flip on this ball and when this ball sees friction it will move and be round, but will not be the hockey stick motion. And for a straighter player like me, it will open a new dimension to your game. The strong asymmetrical Shape-Lock HD core combined with the ReX Pearl coverstock makes the Virtual Energy Blackout a superior choice to add to your arsenal. So, let's take a closer look at what makes the Virtual Energy Blackout so good! The tenacious asymmetrical Shape-Lock HD core is the heart of the Virtual Energy Blackout. And being a straighter player, I liked the security the Shape-Lock HD provided throughout the night. With its well-defined and relentless motion, I could count on the Virtual Energy Blackout to stand up off the pattern and turn with authority as it heads to the pocket. The Shape-Lock HD is far from lazy, and you can count on its energy to deliver a strong punch at the pins, especially if you are a low-rev player like me. I believe the "HD" or high density of the Shape-Lock HD core gives the Virtual Energy Blackout plenty of early energy to grab the lane while creating a strong momentum at the pins, making the Shape-Lock HD core an excellent choice for straighter players like me. When you find the right surface combination to fit your game, the ReX Pearl reactive coverstock can be a straighter player's best friend. And I hit my Virtual Energy Blackout spot-on! I took my Virtual Energy Blackout to 1500-grit Abralon, followed by Storm's new Rough Edge Polish. And I was amazed at the ReX Pearl's traction throughout the lane. Further, I enjoyed how the ReX Pearl bites into the front part of the lane and was still smooth and predictable through the mid-lane. And the best result I saw with the ReX Pearl was it made my Virtual Energy Blackout very stable off the pattern. Unlike other Pearls that will jump on me or have a flutter in the back end, especially later in the night, I could count on the ReX Pearl to produce a smooth and stable motion that my lower rev rate game depends on. And for me, this makes the ReX Pearl an excellent choice for any straighter player. In conclusion, Storm Virtual Energy Blackout is a powerful new release by Storm. And don't let that elegant appeal fool you. Because for straighter players like me, the winning combination of Sure-Lock HD core and Rex Pearl coverstock makes the Virtual Energy Blackout a great ball to add to your arsenal. The all new Virtual Energy Blackout builds on an already concrete foundation created by the Shape-Lock HD Core, but now it is covered in its sleekest form yet. The all new Virtual Energy Blackout is going to be a great replacement to the Dark Code in my arsenal. I am a big fan of asymmetric pearls that are strong, smooth and continuous and the Virtual Energy Blackout is no exception. The Blackout is very versatile, I have seen a ton of success personally and with other people all over the lane with this ball. This ball is also going to be good on a variety of patterns and a variety of houses. I am excited to add this ball to my tournament arsenal! Go out and get yours today, you will not be disappointed!

Returning is the Shape-Lock HD core from the original releases of the energy. This is one of the strongest cores that Storm has created. This ball has the ReX pearl cover that is half nano and half reactor. This creates an earlier reaction compared to R2 but not as early as NeX. This is going to be a ball that is going to read earlier but maintain a strong arc on the backend. This is going to be a ball that will be stronger than an Absolute but will be a great step down from the DNA. This ball is going to fit all bowlers. If you are higher rev rate and lower ball speed this ball is going to be a great first ball option. For lower ball speed or lower rev rate this ball is going to be a great transition ball and takes well to surface changes. Get yours today at your local Storm VIP pro shop. The Blackout has the same ReX Pearl cover as the Fate which has been one of my favorite transition balls. I can see the Blackout fitting in the same slot, but with more “orange pop” in the back because of the asymmetric core. The Blackout gave me a good look sliding on 28, looking 17 at the arrows with my breakpoint around 8-9. I was able to move left as the lanes broke down and the Blackout had no trouble making the corner.. The Fate was earlier and rounder than the Blackout, but was very close in overall hook potential. After the big solid asymmetric balls start to burn up, the Blackout will be an excellent step down without sacrificing down lane strength. Stop by your local Storm VIP pro shop to check it out! Get one! This ball will remind you of those pre 4k fast finish releases that we loved from Storm that provided endless continuation threw the pins. This ball picks up from anywhere and provides plenty of angle. Think of a UC2 on steroids. This ball is fantastic and I see myself drilling a bunch of these.

This is my first ball in the Virtual series. My first impression was this ball reminds me of the Dark Code, probably because it has proven the Rex cover. The REX cover stock, which is a combination of the R2S and NeX cover stocks wrapped around the Shape-Lock HD Core. The Virtual Energy Blackout is clean through the mid lane with a very strong backend reaction and goes through the pins extremely well. As a mid to low rev player, I was able to stand 20 to 30 deep inside without any loss of ball reaction or pin carry. This ball will be great on medium oil patterns. Storm Virtual Energy Blackout Layout 5 x 4 x 2.5 Style – stroker Ball Speed – 14–15 mph at pins Condition – house pattern - older HPL surface Surface – box condition I’ve had success with the REX cover previously and was really looking forward to this release. The Night Road has been a favorite in my bag for a while now. To get the cover/color combination of that ball with a much bigger engine was going to be a win/win for me. The ball has no issues getting around the corner, but it’s still controllable. With slower ball speed, balls that tend to make big moves at the end of the pattern are harder for me to use. The initial results prove this ball will get a lot more use than expected. Dark Code and Code Black were both hit and miss for me. The Blackout seems like it will provide more versatility for my style of bowling. Compared to the Roto Exotic Gem, the Blackout is much more continuous through the pins. The Exotic would get forward for me once making its move at the breakpoint. I can’t see any style of bowling that this ball doesn’t potentially help. If you’re looking to add a stronger asymmetric to your bag that provides versatility, I’d highly recommend the Blackout.

Let's welcome back the Virtual Gravity series with the brand new Virtual Energy Blackout! The same core found in all the Virtual Gravity Balls with the Dark Code Cover REX! When I saw this ball coming out, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Anything with the REX cover on it has never let me down and I have never thrown the Virtual Energy and I am very excited to throw a pearl Virtual Gravity ball. If you're looking for something to replace your beloved Dark Code, this is the ball. This ball is earlier and shapes just as much as a dark code would. This is the perfect step down from something like a Clone or your asym solid that you're throwing for the first transition. When was the last time you saw a black bowling ball roll bad?! Well, it doesn't start today! Go get yours now at your local Storm VIP Pro Shop.

Storm Virtual Energy Blackout Cover: ReX Pearl Reactive Core: Shape-Lock HD Factory finish: Reacta Gloss - tested with the all new Storm Rough cut and then Smooth cut. Layout: 70 x 5 x 40 PAP: 3 1/4 and 0 up/down Ball speeds: 15.0 to 15.4 - off the hand Rev rate: high 380's Back by Popular Demand - the Virtual Energy is back and updated for today's condition with the glossy ReX reactive coverstock and the updated Shape-Lock HD core. The Blackout looks very elegant like it is going to a black tie event. One the lanes, I found the reacta gloss finish allowed the ball motion to be a little longer and a little too sharp in the backend for me and the lane surface and pattern I bowl on in my scratch league. I took to the pro shop and changed the cover with the all new rough cut then used the all new smooth cut, and that was the key to me being able to play straighter and project the ball right between the tracer boards down lane and giving me the most carry throughout my games and practice. The Blackout fits between my 900 Global Eternity Pi and my Roto Grip Exotic GEM when it comes to overall length and backend strength and angle into the pocket. I was able to produce more strikes and 9 counts through fresh and then into the transition then the 2 prior balls mentioned. The Virtual Energy Blackout has been a HUGE success also in the Matchmaker events I have a part of. On SPL, ProLane, 1/2 ProLane and old HPL, and all HPL surfaces the V.E. adapts very well to all types of lane surfaces and conditioner types. Dual Angle Layout: 55 x 4 1/2 x 25 Storm Vector Layout: 4 ½ x 4 ½ x 1 5/8 This ball has quickly become my go to ball when the lanes hook early. The clean cover does require some friction for this ball to really shine. This ball is super clean through the front of the lane and reads the back end extremely well.

Layout: 40 x 5 x 35 Surface: Reacta Gloss The original Shape Lock HD core is brought back from the original Virtual Energy using the REX Pearl Coverstock and finished with Reacta Gloss. This is a asymmetrical pearl shape that has been missing in the line for a little bit of time. The Core allows this ball to read the midlane strong and the coverstock gives that length and angle that Storm is known for. I got to try this ball on a typical house pattern and the 40ft PBA Don Johnson Pattern. My typical house pattern is 44ft with medium volume. I tend to use an Infinite Physix with Reacta Shine as my go to ball on the fresh. The Virtual Energy Blackout gives me a slighty cleaner front with a much more angular backend. The two balls give me a 1-2 punch as the Infinite Physix is overall smoother and is much more forward rolling at the breakend. The VEB allows me to move further left with my feet and open the lane up much more due to its outstanding backend motion. I prefer the ball to be my first transtion ball due to my higher rev rate style but it can certainly be used for the fresh if your ball speed is soft and you like to open the lanes up on the oil. The continuation of the VEB is what makes this ball special. I get a really strong continuous yet angular motion which is the type of ball motion I prefer to see. On the 40ft Don Johnson Pattern, I saw a lot of continuation very similarly to the house pattern. Like the house pattern, the VEB for me prefers a little bit of breakdown and transition to be most successful. Compared to a DNA, I saw cleaner through the front and midlane and stronger backend. When the DNA got too slow down lane, I was able to jump right to the VEB and open the lanes up really well. The higher responsive cover gave me a strong left to right motion that the DNA could not give. Due to the polished finish of the VEB, it was hard to use on the fresh due to the high amount of oil volume. Since the core is so strong on this ball, you can add surface to the coverstock and use it more when the lanes are fresh. I do feel like the DNA or Summit would be a better utilized ball for the fresh compared to the VEB. Adam Chase Storm Staff

The newest Signature line ball brings us to a blast from the past. The Virtual Energy was a iconic ball from Storm and the new Virtual Gravity Blackout brings back to us the Shape Lock HD core. The Blackout has the recently popular REX pearl cover. I drilled mine 5.5 x 5 x 5 and WOW does this ball backend. I feel like the black color and Rex really blend well together going back with the Dark Code. The Blackout reminds me of a stronger version of the Dark Code but is a touch more mid lane than the Dark Code was. It almost reminds me of an blend of an Infinite Physix and Dark Code. I was really able to open up the lane with the Blackout and create a lot of down lane motion with it. I can defiantly see this ball being used on some beat up longer patterns and for anyone who wants to an asymmetrical ball with a lot of backend on house shot conditions.

This time in a glossy, elegant all black version – the new Virtual Energy Blackout! It retains the really strong Shape-Lock HD core that was use in other balls in the Virtual line, and is wrapped with the ReX Pearl reactive cover that we’ve seen on recent balls such as the Infinite PhysiX and Dark Code. All of the technical specs suggest this to be a really strong ball that’s a bit longer and sharper given the glossy pearl cover. I have loved both the Dark Code and Infinite PhysiX, and since the Blackout shares similarities to those two balls, I went with the same drilling on the Blackout as I have on those others. I first threw the Blackout with the out-of-box shiny factory surface. Despite how strong the Blackout is on paper, it’s surprisingly easy to get the ball down the lane, but it still generates a lot of torque and changes direction fairly quickly on the backend. It doesn’t quite have that hockey stick motion, it’s a bit more of a rounded motion which has become characteristic of the ReX coverstock. I liken it more to a longer and slightly sharper version of the Dark Code. While the skid/flip motion is impressive when it’s striking, it can also lead to lots of splits as well. So, I scuffed the Blackout with a used 2000-grit Abralon pad to knock some of the shine off so that it wasn’t quite so flippy on the backend. After taking some of the factory polish off, the Blackout still created lots of shape and retained the clean and sharp backend motion, but it became more controllable and I had more miss room left and right with it compared to the out-of-box surface. I’m getting many of the same vibes with the Blackout as I had with the Dark Code – the Blackout is just a little bit cleaner and a bit sharper downlane. By taking a little of the factory shine off it became a much more versatile ball as well. I think the Blackout could see lane time on all but the heaviest volume oil pattern. I especially think it’s going to be a great option for when you still need a strong ball but also need to open up your angles. Chris Pollentier Storm Products Pro Shop Staff #StormNation

The Shape-lock HD core from the virtual series comes back and is teamed up the the REX Pearl cover featured on the Dark Code. The glossy finish and proven core provide a clean sharp down-lane reaction in a bigger ball, giving you angle even when the lane isn't necessarily giving it to you. The elegant black pearl cover makes this a great looking ball. I tested the Virtual Energy Blackout in league on the long high volume house pattern at my home center. I was a little surprised at how much hook I saw on a fresh lane. It was a little to strong playing near the friction on the fresh. So I put it away until game 3. The Blackout is a great piece for dealing with transition once the lane starts pushing you left. As seems to be characteristic of the all black polished balls it really bends off the down-lane friction well and is great for creating angle when covering boards. It has been very useful for overpowering the lanes when the fronts go but the back-ends are still a little slow. I think the Blackout will be very popular when you need to get in and wheel on it and it's strong enough to create that shape for bowlers who struggle a bit on the rev side of things. For me, this piece provides effortless length through the front part of the lane, while maintaining a strong, smooth, mid lane motion, with lots of continuation down lane. For me, this ball could be used right after your earlier rolling solid pieces, before you get into the floppy pearls like the IQ Tour Ruby and Fate. I recommend this ball to anyone looking for a smooth transition, and tons of angle through the pins. Get yours September 22nd and bowl up a Storm!!!
