I drilled up my PHAZE AI with the trusty 60 x 4.5 x 35 layout. So far, I have thrown it at box surface but have thrown it enough to wear the Power Edge off of it and bring it to a more stable surface closer to 4700 grit. My first impression was one of disappointment as I felt it was too close to the OPTIMUM IDOL PEARL in shape and length. Enter trying to smooth the surface by throwing it more along with lightly cracking the surface with a 4000 CTD pad which is more like 3000 in regular abralon. Now the PHAZE AI is different enough that OIP is very much longer and a nice compliment down from the PHAZE AI. I did throw it some also beside the newer ORIGIN but the ORIGIN is a much earlier and stronger reaction down the lane. The AI impressed me enough to consider drilling a second one with a pin down layout to close the gap to my ROAD WARRIOR which is a lot longer than the AI and OIP and smoother. I also may drill a second one and put more surface on it to bridge the gap between it and the ORIGIN which is a lot earlier than the PHAZE AI.

  • Phaze AI: A Perfect Blend of Performance and Versatility

Posted by Melanee Gross on Dec 5th 2024

The Phaze AI has quickly impressed me with its performance. What really drew me to this ball was the AI core technology (which I LOVE) and the innovative Power Edge Factory Finish. It provides just the right amount of length without going too far, making it incredibly reliable. The Power Edge Factory Finish also makes this ball an excellent option for drier conditions, adding versatility to its list of strengths. Overall, the Phaze AI is an impressive addition to my arsenal!

If you have thrown the Phaze line bowling balls or not, this one will make you take a double look! I love the way this ball rolls. Not many balls out of the box I throw, but this one out of the box was and is still a ball to keep in my bag. For me either on a fresh league shot or tournament shot on that 6th game. I take this ball everywhere with me. I love this phaze ai and love the power edge finish even more with my Quad Turbo 2-in-1 grips. I didn’t care for the phaze 2 but I also don’t use a lot of solid balls only a couple. But when I saw the phase ai, I knew I needed it. The layout I have for this ball is 50x5x30. This layout is very similar to a lot of my balls. I really like the layout on this because it’s sharp and controllable. I did play around with the surface on this and put 2000 on it and it made it even nicer. By far my second favorite ball. After the Attention Star.

While I never have owned a Phaze II, I am curious if I should have because The Phaze AI is amazing. The main reasons I really wanted to try it was due to the AI core technology and the new Power Edge Factory Finish. As many know I do not have the best results with pearls but the Summit Peak changed my mind set on pearls, so I am much more willing to try them. While I love the Summit Peak because for me it definitely revs up early and it is very predictable, the Phaze AI gives me a bit more length but it doesn’t go to long. I was able to move back right and even move a little further left then I could with the Peak. I am looking forward to using this ball more and more as I get back to bowling multiple nights. I am also very intrigued by this new Power Edge Finish and might even try it on some other balls that had Reacta Gloss originally.

The OG Phaze was too strong and chuggy. The Phaze 4 and 5 were cleaner and more responsive but at times was allergic to oil. The Phaze AI is JUUUUST right. It’s very clean but it has no problem with oil. I can use it on a little more volume or gear my miss into the puddle in the cliff and not be afraid of the weak 10. I’ve also had the Phaze series want to get a little forward and the AI core keeps the axis a little longer than a typical Phaze. I can see using it when there’s friction in the pattern or the surface and won’t have to worry about it not handling the oil as I move across the pattern.

But Storm upped the game with the new PowerEdge polish that brings back that 1500-grit polish we all know and love about Storm and Roto pieces!! This piece is stronger than I originally thought and the PowerEdge, even at high polish, reads the midlane while maintaining its energy to pound the pins. I put a 5-1/4” pin with 2.5” pin buffer which puts the pin high above my bridge so this piece will be a transitional piece and have a continuous strong motion once it sees the friction. Compared to my Optimum Idol, this one rolls a bit sooner and is more continuous with a powerful arc where I can get inside and play more of rounded shape to get around the flatness of sport patterns. Put a touch of surface on it and it will dig into the oil for a great mid-lane read. This new core/cover combination is truly a winner that is great for a variety of conditions and player styles. Don’t wait on this one, it will deliver many strikes! Chris Martinez Storm Amateur Staff www.stormbowling.com

Tilt 20. Rotation 50. Speed at release 17 Review: The new Phase A.I. is a great rolling ball that reads the mid lane nicely but retains energy for a strong move on the back part of the lane. This ball is very versatile and should fit most bowlers’ games regardless of their style. Some players have told me it took a few games to get the feel of this ball but my first time out I shot a nice 733 series and I used it all three games with small adjustments. I have really been impressed with how the Phase A.I. hits and carries. I believe this is due to the combination of how it stores energy and the use of the A.I. core. This ball has been selling really well at the shop and from the distributorship. I think Storm has a hit with this one. I also believe the Power Edge finish is something Storm bowlers have been looking for. The bowlers I have sold the Phase A.I. to have been very happy. I would call the Phase A.I. a medium to strong ball that fits under my Ion Max but above my Lightning Blackout. I recommend this ball to anyone who wants a medium to strong benchmark ball with a strong back end. I think this will be a versatile ball that will have many applications on the lane. Summary: The Phase A.I. is an excellent ball for all types of styles. The way the Phase A.I. moves on the back provides hard hit and excellent carry. The colors of this ball are attractive and look great going down the lane. Ball Specs: Storm Phaze A.I. Coverstock: TX-16™ Power Edge Pearl Reactive Core: Velocity™ A.I. Core (Symmetrical) Color: Ivory/Anchor/Onyx Review: This is a BIG release for many reasons… First, the Phaze II is probably the GOAT so coming out with another variation has very large shoes to fill. Then comes adding the A.I. core to the famous weight block and not to mention the debut of the new polish POWER EDGE (Thank god – as we were not huge fans of the reacta gloss finish). The first thing we notice is it definitely has a patented phaze ball motion which is described as forgiving, continuous, predictable, stable, and versatile. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). It is early to come to conclusions but the power edge finish probably has a lot to do with this ball seeming to be more forgiving off the pattern. In our short experience with the reacta gloss finish we did note that sometimes it seemed to give a little too over/under and be very sensitive off the pattern to speed. This polish seems not as “slick” and seems to pick up a touch earlier to help with this issue. So far we like what we see out of this ball. If there is any downsides… reading a black and white ball that is very shiny is a little tough and distracting but if the ball strikes then who cares. Another banger from the Phaze line! Sam Cooper. Roto Grip Amateur Staff. Man the Storm Phaze AI not only does this ball look sweet going down the lane it reacts just as good as it looks. The TX-16 pearl cover paired with the Velocity AI core will be a great combination for many different bowling styles. I went with a slightly different layout than I typically do with symmetrical pearls. I did a 5.5” pin with a 2.25” pin buffer. When this ball sees the friction, it turns for home in a big way. This feels like the “Storm Reaction” that we have been missing with some balls. There have been many times I will say to myself that ball is not making it back and it just runs the pocket over. If you are a Phaze 2 lover this ball will be the best compliment to one of the greatest balls of all time. The Phaze AI also has a new finishing polish called Power Edge. In comparison to Reacta Gloss, I think Power Edge gives you a more consistent read and also hooks more in oil. On the house shots if you miss the ball in the middle of the lane I feel it has a better chance of striking than previous polished balls. I personally am looking forward to trying more spheres with the Power Edge polish on it. I believe this ball is weaker than the Roto Grip Optimum Idol Pearl but stronger than the Storm Hyroad or 900 Global Xponent Pearl. This ball(if you leave it polished) will need some friction on the lane but when there is it will be a fun ball to throw. Like I said before the people that are going to love this ball the most is when your Phaze 2 is hooking too early or not going through the pins properly. Pull out the Phaze AI and let the best compliment to the Phaze 2 do the work for you.

Can the Phase AI live up to the OG – Phase II? Only time will tell. I threw the Phase AI the last five frames of game 4 of Monday night league after my Roto Grip Optimum Idol Solid quit carrying. I did not have much luck with getting lined up or carrying. I went high the first two shots then 8-pin, 10-pin, and 8-pin. Lol. During my ball review of the Phase AI, I had much better success. I did see a tendency for the ball to miss the break point but I think it was more indicative of the leftover league shot than the Phase AI. I need more time throwing it in different bowling centers before making the decision to add it to my tournament bag or not. Visit your local Storm VIP Pro Shop! #Stormnation #SquadRG

Storm Phaze A.I. Coverstock: TX-16 Pearl Reactive Finish: Power Edge Core: Velocity A.I. Core RG: 2.47, Diff: 0.053 (15 lb.) VLS Layout: 4-1/2 x 4 x 2-1/4 Dual Angle Layout: 45 x 4-1/2 x 35 PAP: 5 3/16” right x 5/8” up Rev rate: 400 rpm Average speed: 16.5 mph Location: Prairie Lanes, Sun Prairie WI Pattern: Medium volume THS The Storm Phaze A.I. is the newest iteration of the famed Phaze series of bowling balls and features the iconic Velocity Core. But this time the core is paired with Amplified Inertia (A.I.) technology and is wrapped in the TX-16 pearl coverstock – the pearl version of the Phaze II cover. If that’s not enough, the Phaze A.I. is also the first ball in the Storm lineup to feature the all-new Power Edge polished finish. I typically find myself on the fence when it comes to factory polish. There have been some balls where I’ve left the ball shiny and others where I’ve lightly scuffed the cover with an Abralon pad. With Phaze A.I., I wanted to try out the new Power Edge factory polish before making any changes to the surface. For about the first 10 games I found the reaction to be a bit sensitive to oil than I wanted to see. I decided knock some of the shine off with a used 3000-grit Abralon pad by hand, which resulted in a much better reaction by blending out some of the over/under yet retaining that quicker motion on the backend that Storm is known for. The Phaze A.I. is the perfect complement to the Phaze II. The A.I. is a little bit longer and more responsive off the friction, compared to the clean yet controlled reaction we’ve come to expect from the Phaze II. For me, the Phaze A.I. is a great go-to ball for both league and tournaments play when the lanes have transitioned and you need some extra length and pop on the backend. Bowlers of all styles will get plenty of use out of Phaze A.I., and it will fill that spot in your bag for when the lanes open up and you can create steeper launch angles. You won’t want to miss out on this one. Chris Pollentier Storm Products Pro Shop Staff #StormNation

Hello everyone and welcome to another Beyond the Arrows Ball Reviews brought to you by Striking Results Pro Shop, Bowlifi and Turbo 2 n 1 Grips, today we will be reviewing the new Storm Phaze AI The Phaze AI has a low RG value of 2.47 which means it will rev up early in the mids and a medium to high differential of 0.053 resulting with a big flare potential in the backend. The Phaze AI features the Velocity core being wrapped in the Amplified Inertia outer core. The Velocity A.I. Core elevates the low RG/high differential symmetric combination, enhancing ball dynamics and significantly boosting pin carry. This advanced outer core smooths out the backend reaction without over-reacting. In addition, The Phaze AI features the brand-new polishing compound called Power Edge. By combining the TX-16 Pearl coverstock previously seen in the Storm Journey you will the strongest symmetric pearl on the market. I did a ball comparison to the Storm Lightning Blackout and the Roto Grip Optimum Idol Pearl on a 42 ft house shot, 25 ml of oil. In comparison to the Lightning Blackout, the Phaze AI starts up sooner and has bigger footprint on the backend which is great for sport patterns with more volume up front. The Blackout is very smooth through the mids and off the spot in the backend which gives you a very predictable ball motion good for the wet/dry backends. In comparison to the Optimum Idol Pearl, again the Phaze AI starts up quicker due to strength of the core and cover combination but the Idol is again very smooth through the mids but does pack a punch for the backend. As per the surface adjustments, the Phaze AI comes out of box with Power Edge polish which is 500>1000>Power Edge On heavy oil the optimum surface would be a 500>1000 grit Abralon. In the bag, will be the Roto Grip Xcell, HRP, Phaze AI and Storm DNA Coil Please pick up a Storm Phaze AI at a Striking Results Proshop near you and please like and subscribe to my page Beyond the Arrows Ball reviews. Symmetrical Pearls are BACK! This ball is really clean through the fronts but unlike most symmetrical pearls this ball picks up in the midlane and is very continuous off the pattern instead of being quick and unpredictable like most symmetrical pearls. Depending on the bowler you can use this on the fresh, or it’s a great 1-2 punch to the Phaze II. Overall the phaze symmetrical pearls are back!

Finally, a pearl Phaze is BACK!! But how does this one improve upon the most recent iteration, the Phaze V? First, the updated core features A.I. tech. So, longer continuation window, more gradual change of direction, and better carry. Second, the coverstock is TX-16 Pearl, a healthy step up from R2S Pearl which was featured on the Phaze V. With all of these things together, you get a Phaze that is true to the identity of Storm but also provides great length, continuation and versatility. With a cover that can handle more oil and a core that keeps going from bigger angles than the original, the Phaze A.I. is a really impressive piece that fills a gap and is SUPER useable on today's conditions.

Storm Phaze A.I. Coverstock: TX-16 Pearl Reactive Finish: Power Edge Core: Velocity A.I. Core (14pd.) RG: 2.52 Differential: 0.052 Layout: 5 x 4 x 3 1/2 - 2LS Layout Extras: 2 1/8 Finger Depth, "X" - 4 1/2 D and 1 Inch Left Tester: PAP 6 1/2 R, 1 1/4 D Review: The Storm Phaze A.I. features the Velocity A.I. core and the TX-16 coverstock made famous on the Phaze II. The Phaze A.I. will be that perfect ball in the arsenal for your high to medium/medium type conditions where you want great continuous reaction through the pocket. At the OOB finish the all new Power Edge finishing process appears to be a home run. I was introduced to Power Edge early on in our MatchMaker kits. The surface appears tackier than Reacta Gloss. Also, in previous offerings Reacta Gloss, at times, has been known to be a touch smooth. The all new Power Edge applied to the Phaze A.I. will make this ball intriguing to bowling enthusiasts. The Phaze A.I. provides nice length and great motion off the spot. For this ball I have left the coverstock untouched at this time. If you are one that likes to hit the surface immediately a slightly worn 2000 Abralon pad should do the trick. In comparing the Phaze A.I. to the Phaze II I was pleasantly surprised the Phaze A.I. went through the front part of the lane more than I initially thought. Also, being finished with Power Edge versus a solid it makes sense the Phaze A.I. will pick up on the lane a little later than the Phaze II. Downlane the Phaze A.I. shows a distinct strong shape however it is not as jumpy as one might think making the Phaze A.I. versatile on a variety of conditions. Is the Phaze A.I strong? Yes, it sure is, but I did feel even when I got steep with my angles the Phaze A.I. did not quit. The Phaze A.I. will thrive and see more use with open v. closed angles. I'm definitely excited to test the Phaze A.I. over time and truly believe this flagship ball will be the best one to date. Game-Changer for Hook Potential The Storm Phaze AI bowling ball is an absolute game-changer when it comes to hook potential. Outfitted with the TX-16 Pearl Reactive coverstock, this ball is perfect for medium to heavy oil conditions. The Phaze AI’s low RG (2.47) and high differential (0.053) Velocity Core combination translates to excellent flare potential and strong backend reaction. I’ve noticed a more consistent motion through the midlane, giving me the confidence to play deeper angles with ease.

Welcome back as we have a new release from Storm! I want to thank you for watching and reading these reviews and hope it gives you some information to take back when looking to get your next bowling ball. TESTING ENVIRONMENT Length:42 Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): House Shot BALL: Storm Phaze AI Coverstock: TX-16 Pearl Coverstock Core: : Velocity A.I. Personally I have not had much success with any Phaze balls that came after the Phaze lll. I was really looking to the Phaze AI as technology changes and involves and I like what I am seeing in the SPI AI balls. This ball also has the all new Power Edge polish making this ball a little different from the ones before. With the release of the ION Pro which in my opinion is a stronger version of the Phaze AI makes the Phaze Al lower than the benchmark line. When we were testing we were on a fresh THS and started up the outside and it never saw the friction so I moved left and moved left and I just never saw the motion I was looking for. I did hit the ball with a 2000 pad to remove the polish much like I used to do with React Gloss as I found the balls never touched the lane and missed the friction. With some surface the ball started to “see it” just a tad but never felt like this was going to be a first or second ball out of the bag. I can really see this ball having success when there was less oil, shorter pattern or later in a set or block. I will continue to see if this ball will stay in the bag by using it after league and see if I can get it dialed in a little better. Phaze AI will be a great compliment to the Phaze 2 it will be longer than Phaze 2 with a stronger backend. Compared to the other Phaze pearl balls the Phaze AI will read the midlane better with still a strong continuous motion on the backend without missing breakpoint. For me Phaze AI will be a great step down after throwing my Ion Pro or Phaze 2 when the lane transitions and I need more length and a stronger backend. The Phaze AI with the new Storm Power Edge finish creates nice length with a stronger backend.

Everyone knows the Phaze 2 is one of the most iconic Storm balls they have ever produced. Fast forward 8 years later, it has returned, this time with an upgraded pearl version. Using the Velocity Core with AI technology and the TX-16 Pearl Coverstock, finished with the new Power Edge polish, the Storm Phaze AI brings back the glory days of the Phaze 2!! I drilled my layout at 50 x 5 x 35. I tested it on at my home center's (Cortlandt Lanes) 45ft 27mLs house shot and the Phaze AI did not disappoint. The ball gave me a stronger midlane read, and with a finish polish, I saw more angle at the end, something we have not seen with previous pearl Phazes. I found more transition once the lanes broke down and was able to move right, giving the ball more track area and still that big angular motion. Even playing in the oil, the Phaze AI is still very controllable. While I wasn't able to compare it to the Phaze 2, I threw the Summit Ascent (70 x 5 3/8 x 40) for comparison, since they are both symmetrical pieces. With the Solid Coverstock, it has similar shape as the Phaze, reading the midlane early, but with a smooth finish to not overreact into the pocket. I would find the Ascent and Phaze AI to be your 1-2 punch on fresh conditions (mostly medium-high volume patterns). I highly recommend this ball, especially if you are a fan of the Phaze 2, this would be the complimentary version!! Be sure to stop by your local pro shop and drill up a Phaze AI today!! The Storm Phaze AI bowling ball has arrived, and it’s already making waves in the bowling community. As an avid bowler and a fan of Storm products, I was eager to put the Phaze AI to the test and see how it stacks up against its predecessor, the Storm Phaze 2. The Phaze AI retains the impressive design elements that made the Phaze 2 a favorite among bowlers while incorporating advanced technology that enhances performance. The Phaze AI features the new “AI” core, which is designed to provide a more controlled reaction compared to the original Phaze 2 core. In terms of overall hook potential, the Phaze AI surpasses the Phaze 2. The combination of the AI core and the TX-16 coverstock allows for an aggressive hook motion that responds well to both oil patterns and varying lane conditions. Whether you’re on a fresh shot or dealing with heavy carrydown, the Phaze AI hooks consistently and offers versatility across different environments. While the Storm Phaze 2 had its strengths in mid-lane read and backend recovery, the Phaze AI takes it a step further. The backend reaction is noticeably improved, offering a more defined change of direction without sacrificing the smoothness that bowlers appreciate. One of the standout features of the Phaze AI is its adaptability. During my tests, I was able to use it effectively on both fresh and burnt lanes. In conclusion, the Storm Phaze AI takes and old favorite and makes it event better. While the Phaze 2 remains a solid choice, the advancements found in the Phaze AI’s core make it a worthy investment for bowlers looking to elevate their game. The Storm Phaze AI, offers enhanced performance and versatility. Featuring a new coverstock, core design, and the innovative Power Edge polishing compound, the AI delivers a smoother roll with a more consistent backend reaction. This makes it ideal for a wide range of lane conditions, from medium to heavy oil. Compared to earlier Phaze models, the AI offers a more forgiving ball motion, making it easier to control and adjust to varying lane conditions. I am happy with what I have seen from the Phaze AI so far, this will be a staple in my bag for the foreseeable future. Head to your local storm VIP pro shop and get yours today!

  • Phaze AI- new and improved Phaze from Storm

The Phaze AI takes one of Storm’s best balls, the Phaze II, and “modernizes” it. The Phaze AI features the same TX-16 cover which was on the Phaze II, but pearlizes it. The Phaze II has solid TX-16. Ion Pro has TX-16 hybrid. The Phaze AI is TX-16 pearl. So it skids easily through the front part of the lane. The next big change is to take the original Velocity core from the Phaze II, but re-engineer it with A.I. The result is a slightly lower RG which helps it rev up and not miss the midlane, despite the pearl cover. And, it features a higher differential which means it has extra giddy up on the back end to ensure continuous downlane motion and maximizes pin carry. This ball should fit right in your middle bag when the fronts start to dry up or on patterns with less volume and when you need to have a strong back end reaction, especially when your angles are open or your back point is out. Mine is drilled pin up, 4 ½ from my PAP.
