Storm Equinox – WWRD 2/7/2025
Cover: A1S Pearl Reactive Core: Solarian A.I. RG: 2.48 RG. Diff.: 0.054 Finish: Power Edge Fragrance: Blueberry Crumble Roto Grip’s new Equinox is a Pearl Asymmetrical piece that is good for Medium Volume patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. Drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers, CG kicked out 1” from the palm, and 1” Left of the Mass Bias. I threw this piece on a left over house pattern. Out of Box ball motion was clean through the fronts with a controllable backend reaction through the pins. I compared this to the PhysiX Blackout & DNA Coil. PhysiX Blackout was 2-2 left and more overall hook. DNA Coil was 1-1 Left but started earlier in the mids than the Equinox. This piece will be good for all types of styles on house patterns. This will be a good piece to go to when the fronts started hooking early and need that backend reaction later in the block. Equinox
The Storm Equinox is one of those balls that just feels right as soon as it leaves your hand. It has a smooth, predictable motion that makes reading the lanes effortless, especially on medium to heavy oil. The Solarion A.I. Core gives it a strong mid-lane read without feeling overly aggressive, and the A1S Pearl Reactive coverstock provides just the right blend of length and traction. I love how controllable this ball is—it doesn’t overreact off the dry, but it still has enough backend pop to drive through the pins with authority. It’s the kind of ball you can trust when transition starts creeping in and you need something reliable to keep you in the pocket. Whether you're playing a fresh shot or adjusting to breakdown, the Equinox gives you a strong yet predictable reaction that keeps you in the game. If you’re looking for a benchmark ball that blends control with just enough punch on the backend, the Equinox is a solid choice. Go out to your local SPI proshop today to get yours!

The Equinox features a clean pearl reactive cover called A1S. The A and S stand for Adhesion System. The design intent according to Storm is engineered for exceptional tackiness, designed to create effortless length and a sharp, controlled move at the breakpoint. The Core is called Solarion, a 3 cylinder design somewhat similar to the 900 Global Origin. It features the Amplified Inertia (A.I.) technology as well. The PSA is a little bit lower compared to the Origin, but still pretty high compared to most Assyms. They really targeted league conditions with this ball. I first tested the Equinox in league. I decided to just get right into it, rather than waiting a game like I do with a lot of shiny balls. We happened to be on one of the first pairs of lanes, which always hook more so I figured it was a good time to try it game 1. The ball looked great right off the bat. It had no issues with our 43 foot higher volume house pattern. The ball made a very predictable move at the end of the pattern and continued very well. It almost felt closer to a bigger symmetric ball. The bigger assyms can get forward pretty quick for me, but despite a pretty sharp change of direction, I didn't have any problems the Equinox continuing it's motion. I also really like it's motion through the pins. It seems to rack through the pins really well so that you don't have the really bad leaves on small misses that you sometimes see with balls this angular at the break point. I stayed in the ball effortlessly through the 3 games. I did experiment a bit with speeds and releases the first couple of games. It's very responsive to those changes and the last game I popped off a pretty effortless game over 250. Any time I can count on a ball on the fresh and the burn I'm happy. I also threw it a few days later on an afternoon after a league had bowled. I had the exact same reaction I'd had to finish the league session and I continued left of there another two games without losing reaction. This ball will be very popular when you want to play the lanes left to right and still control the down-lane reaction. It is a definite house shot killer but I think it will be very useful on many patterns. It's a particularly good ball first game out for bowlers with a little less ball speed. The more speed dominant players will love it when the lanes start to transition and in houses with quick back-ends. The Equinox is EXCELLENT!

The Equinox is a brilliant design of the all-new Solarion +A.I. Core and the A1S Pearl Reactive Coverstock. And this cover/core combination makes the Equinox a powerful new release built for you, the league bowler. I found the Equinox to be an incredible THS striking machine, so let's break it down and take a closer look at what makes the Equinox such a success. The Solarion + A.I. Core is a unique asymmetric design built for the motion, versatility, and continuation that straighter players like me love when rolling on a THS. I found that the Solarion + A.I. Core produces the right amount of skid, hook, and roll and is well-balanced between all three phases. The Solarion + A.I. Core had a crisp yet controllable bite when it exited the pattern. And with its unique asymmetric design, I found the Solarion +A.I. Core produced a significant amount of power as it entered the pocket. And if you are a straighter player like me, you will love the steam-rolling continuation of the Solarion +A.I. Core brings to your game. So, overall, I found that for straighter players like me, the Solarion +A.I. Core is an excellent blend of RG, Diff, and PSA that will produce the results we depend on to score! Storm's all-new A1S Pearl Reactive with the Power Edge Finish brings a new look to the lanes for straighter players like me. As a straighter player, the school of thought was to use Pearls when the lanes break down and bring them out when solids and hybrids start burning up or rolling out. With the A1S Pearl Reactive with the Power Edge Finish on the Equinox, I found a new perspective on using Pearl Coverstocks! On fresh oil, the A1S grips the front part of the lane without being overbearing. It created a smooth motion in the mid–lane and produced a predictable turn off the pattern. Then, as the pattern began to break down, I liked how the A1S Pearl blended the conditions, giving me a smooth, continuous motion I could rely on. Further, with the Power Edge Finish applied to the A1S Pearl, I enjoyed being able to move my breakpoint without sacrificing the control I would typically lose when I get out of my comfort zone. So, if you are a straighter player like me, rolling on a THS, the A1S will undoubtedly bring the results you can rely on all night. In closing, the Equinox is a fantastic new release by Storm! The Bowlers Company heard what THS bowlers were looking for and delivered with the Equinox! And when it comes to a THS, I would not compare the Equinox to another Storm Family ball! The Equinox is unique and is an excellent blend of Solarion +A.I. Core and A1S Pearl reactive coverstock that belongs in any THS bowler's arsenal! And if you are a straighter player like me, you will love the strength, predictability, and control the Equinox will bring to your THS league season! Storm Equinox Ball Review Layout-VLS 5x4x2 Surface-Power Edge Polish RG-2.47 Diff-.054 Intermediate Diff -.018 Storm Equinox features a new core with AI techology wrapped with the new A1S pearl covertock. The new Solorian weight block is a fast reving strong asymmetrical weight block. The Solorian weight block will produce and tumbling motion through the front part of the lane with a strong continuous motion on the backend. The Equinox will bridge the gap between your strong asymmetrical balls and your pearl symmetricals. The Equinox was designed to conquer lane patterns between 39-44 feet which is 80% of leagues and weekend tournaments lane patterns. For me the Equinox will bridge the gap between my Physix Blackout and the Phaze AI.So when my Physix Blackout is hooking to early and Phaze AI isn't strong enough the Equinox will be a great choice. Currently in my Storm Lineup i would Start with the Physix Blackout then proceed to the Ion Pro,Equinox,Phaze AI and then finish with the Storm Virtual Energy Blackout. Storm Equinox
Storm’s latest performance ball is designed to handle 80% of those conditions that we see every week, with patterns between 39 and 44 feet, Storm really stepped up the game with the Equinox. Featuring an all new Solarion AI Core which has an RG of 2.48, Diff of 0.054 and PSA of 0.018 and is wrapped around the A1S Pearl cover. I drilled mine 4 x 4.5 x 2 hoping for a similar shape to my trusty Physix Blackout and after tweaking with the cover a little, this ball was all that was advertised. The first time I really got to throw it in a tournament was on Kegel Chromium and it struck ALOT. It blended out the dry parts of the lane and didn’t overreact and my misses in the oil the ball still picked up in the right part of the lane and carried. You can see the Solarion core really rev up in the middle of the lane but the A1S cover doesn’t over hook in the dry like some of the other pearl asymmetrical’s I’ve thrown. If you are looking for a ball for league or just a versatile pearl asymmetrical for those weekend tournaments, rush to your local VIP Pro Shop and grab the Equinox!

Storm Equinox Ball Review
I am slightly speed dominant, rev challenged 220-250ish, low tilt and high rotation. The Storm Equinox is a strong asymmetrical pearl reactive with high flare potential. I drilled mine 35 x 4 1/2 x 25. My axis point is 1 3/8 up and 4 1/4 right. I love this ball because it reads the middle lane and has great continuation and movement on the backend of the lane. This ball is definitely a house shot killer! Check out my video at: https://youtu.be/qVG1C_mzEE4?si=WoHyGBUHrXNanTEW #StormNation #sm2proshop

Equinox a very versatile ball!

SPI notes that the tackiness and responsiveness will work well with most house conditions. Your pro shop will have nice latitude in drilling this ball for your bowling style. What has impressed me the most with the Equinox is that the glossy finish provides a good blend of controllable yet sharper reactions. At times this is difficult to achieve with pearl type finishes. The A1S coverstock along with Power Edge will need to be tested further. For now, it appears to blend very well. In addition, I have not decided yet if the surface will need that 4K or 3K scuffing I personally like to do on pearl offerings. The Equinox will shine in your medium range conditions. To bring to light a similar ball for SPI, the Virtual Energy Blackout (VEBO) comes to mind. If you enjoyed the VEBO you will want to consider adding an Equinox to your arsenal. For me, the Equinox is much more balanced and does not "lock-up" for me like a previous offering such as the Dark Code could do at times. I personally feel the Equinox is miles better for me over the Dark Code. So far, the Equinox gives me the VEBO type vibes. Be sure to try out the Equinox and fill that gap for league and medium volume patterns. Equinox of the lanes
Storm EquinoX Pattern: 43ft THS Layout: 80 x 4 1/4 x 40 Finish: Box (Power Edge) The Storm EquinoX is a brand new addition to the high performance line of SPI. Featuring the new Solarian + A.I. core, the EquinoX is built to conquer any league/tournament pattern. The A15 Pearl reactive cover combined with the featured Assymetrical weight block allows length downlane with a strong, yet smooth finish into the pocket allowing many bowlers to strike with ease. The Power Edge finish allows the ball to maintain its energy down the lane so that it can release into the pocket with force. Definitely a good fit for any style of player. Equinox Review
Layout: 4 x 4 x 2 Surface: Power Edge Rev Rate: 470 RPM Rotation: 60* Tilt: 13* The Equinox is a brand-new Core and coverstock combination never before seen on the market that is designed especially for house patterns and 39-44ft length patterns. The brand-new Solarian AI brings in three cylindrical shapes to enhance drilling versatility and a lower RG. The new A1S coverstock is a new pearl technology including cohesion additives to help with a bigger footprint as well as a down lane reaction which is also finished with Power Edge Polish. I was able to test the Equinox on a typical 44ft house pattern and a 40ft sport pattern. On the house pattern, I saw a lot of angularity out of the Equinox. The medium strength A1S coverstock gave me a lot of length down lane and ample down lane motion. Since the coverstock was so clean, I was not able to have much success on the fresh conditions. As the lanes transitioned, and I had to move my feet more left, I saw this ball start to come alive. The skid flip motion didn't disappoint in the first transition phase. Compared to the Physix Blackout, I saw a lot more length and a more angular backend. These two balls could certainly be in the same bag as they aren't relatively close to one another in terms of ball reaction. I would recommend the Equinox to a bowler bowling patterns closer to 40ft then 44ft as the length the ball creates could be a little challenging to shape correctly. Those who bowl on more warn lane surfaces will also get a lot of use out of the Equinox more in general. It can also be a ball down off a stronger asymmetrical ball such as the Physix Blackout or Ion Max. On the 40ft sport pattern, I saw a lot of the same characteristics. Due to the extra oil volume, the Equinox was not great on the fresh. I saw too much length and flip that was not ideal on the conditions. Again, as the lanes transitioned off a stronger and earlier ball motion, the Equinox showed up much more. I still had to make sure I rolled the ball well to get the ball to slow down in the right spot, but it gave a me a significant better ball reaction. I was able to get to the pocket fairly consistently in during transition. Towards the end of the session, I changed the surface to a fresh 3000 and it gave me ample more overall hook on the ball. It gave me about more 4 boards to be exact and allowed me to move deeper on the lane while giving me better overall motion. I think the Equinox can give a fairly expected ball reaction on medium length conditions, both on house and sport conditions. I recommend this ball for the bowler who likes skid flip asymmetrical balls in general. The Equinox gives that traditional Storm Skid Flip look that they are known for and I believe it can work for many styles. I think that Storm has definitely narrowed this ball to be best used in that 39-44ft range of patterns. I think heavier and longer patterns would need more surface on the ball to be most effective. This ball would certainly work best as a ball down from a stronger ball used for the fresh. The Equinox for me would be the 2nd or 3rd ball out of the bag based on my style. Adam Chase Storm Staff

Equinox
Dual Angle Layout: 65 x 4 ½ x 30 Storm Vector Layout: 4 ½ x 5 1/8 x 1 7/8 The Storm Equinox features the A1S Pearl Reactive cover stock wrapped around the Solarion AI Core. When Storm said this ball was designed for patterns between 39-44 feet, they were right. This ball reminds me of the original Attention Star. It is clean through the fronts and then has a nice smooth controllable backend. I expected this ball to be strong and angular but its quite the opposite. The smooth controllable backend makes it a great option for a house shot when you want to control the pocket and minimize through the face splits due to sharp angles.

I was able to keep moving left and the EquinoX had no trouble turning the corner. When compared to the Ion Max, the EquinoX is much cleaner with a stronger change in direction. I can see the EquinoX being the first ball out of my bag in league and in tournament play it will be great after the big solid asymmetric balls start to burn up. Within my bag, it will slot below the Ion Max but above the Road Warrior. Stop by your local Storm VIP pro shop to check it out! Available on February 7th. Dave Jecko Storm Amateur Staff Member

Equinox Review
The Storm Equinox is Storms newest addition to the bowling industry. With 80% of leagues being contested on oil patterns in the range of 39-44ft, the Equinox is designed to be the all-purpose ball bowlers are looking for. It has a brand-new Solarian AI core, along with its A1S pearl reactive cover stock. With a low RG rating/high flare potential, the Equinox delivers the finishing backend motion Storm is known for. Drill layout: 55 x 4 7/8 x 35. I tested my Equinox on a fresh 43ft house condition at my home center of Cortlandt Lanes in Cortlandt Manor, NY. With its Power Edge finish on the clean cover stock, I found the Equinox to have more length and angularity. After a first few shots on the fresh, I didn’t seem to have proper lane read with the Equinox as I had to play straighter to open the transition. Once progress was made, I couldn’t stop striking as I moved right with my feet once the lanes started to open up. Still with more length and angularity, the Equinox has a strong finish through the pins with its backend motion. I compared it to my Harsh Reality Pearl with a similar layout of 50 x 5 x 35. With both balls almost matching up together, they had similar results in angle and length, only with the Equinox resulting in a much stronger finish through the pins. I would recommend the Equinox to be a 2nd or 3rd ball out of the bag once the transition starts to open up on medium conditions. Depending on the surface choice and mL of the oil patterns, the Equinox would be a great versatile ball bowlers are looking for. Be sure to stop by your local pro shop and drill one up today!
