Storm DNA Coil Bowling Ball

Not every bowler is made the same and not every bowling ball is made the same. As you discover your personal bowling DNA Profile, you can expect this new bowling ball to give you a great read of the midlane. If you drilled the original DNA, try the same layout on your DNA Coil and expect the same early-revving action, but with a longer, more angular ball motion we all look for as the lanes start to break down.

Layout: 4 1/2 x 6 x 0 Surface: 2000 abralon The DNA Coil brings back the supercoil core paired with the new exo pearl coverstock. The supercoil core is one of the strongest ones in the current storm lineup. Originally found on the DNA solid, the core is designed for heavy oil and produces strong and smoother motion. The new Coil gives a cleaner and higher response for that same heavy oil. I drilled this one 4 1/2 x 6 x 0 to put the pin on my axis line to start up on the lane very quickly while giving that more angular motion I have needed. This layout was used specifically for tournament conditions that have a lot more volume then the typical house shot. The Coil accomplishes just what I am looking for. It reads the front and midlane pretty strong while giving a nice angular backend. The strong core and coverstock combination handles the heavy oil really well and is a great step down from a slower response ball such as the original DNA or summit. I brought the surface down to 2000 grit because the factory reacta gloss was too long in length at first. The surface allows the ball to read the midlane stronger and continue better. On the typical house shot the early hooked forces me into the oil very quickly but still continues well. If your house shot has a lot of volume or is longer in length then the Coil with a similar drilling would do well. A more typical drilling where the pin is further from the axis line would be great as either a fresh ball or first transition ball. This ball is earlier and smoother than the virtual Energy Blackout. Ball Specs: DNA Coild Coverstock: EXO Pearl Coverstock Fragrance: Orange Pineapple Slush Core: Asymmetric Finish: Reacta Gloss Review: Talk about a ball that stands out. The new DNA Coil is another addition to the DNA line. This being a pearl coverstock pairs perfectly with the original DNA. The DNA Coil is great for when you start to see your DNA burning up and losing energy. Unlike many pearls, the DNA Coil isn’t just a one-trick pony. You won’t just see a big backend motion like every other pearl bowling ball out there. The thing that I really like about this ball is the versatility. This ball can play a variety of angles and lines and still see a great reaction all over the lane. I find myself using this ball a lot during the start of league or when the lanes begin to change at tournaments. With the bigger core it allows me to use this ball early in league. The coverstock is also very good when changing the finish. I have thrown the ball at box finish and have taken it to 2000 sanded and have had success adding additional versatility to this great ball. If you loved your original DNA you are going to really enjoy throwing this ball, make sure you pick yours up today! Will Tefft Storm Staff Member will@parklanes.net www.strombowling.com #Stromnation

The Coil is the first use of EXO Pearl that we've seen. This ball is heavy rolling and fits near the top of the bag. I can see myself using this ball to blend out the cliff on a high friction surface, or slow hooking this ball on a slightly higher volume condition. This ball fits right below the Magic Gem for me, it's similarly early and rounded but stores a bit more energy for the back part of the lane. If you're looking for a really strong compliment to solid asyms like the Harsh Reality or Eternity Pi, the coil fits just below those without being as clean and sharp as the Virtual Energy Blackout or the Attention Star

I have seen other people’s reviews on this ball and their pin up layouts creates a rather unusual early but angular motion with plenty of continuation. I drilled mine pin down to hopefully get away from that angular motion. What I got was a ball that I have to stay closer to the friction with and it never reads it too hard, it just seems to absorb the friction and come off of it with a very smooth and continuous roll. This motion seems to really blend the wet/dry even with the factory shine on it! I am not sure that I want to change surface on it, to be honest. The point of all of these balls is to have different motions and this one is definitely a different motion! Key words for me are Smooth and Control! My layout for this bad boy is: 4.5x4.5x4 Balls Currently getting play: Absolute Power: 5x4x2 Xponent Pearl: 5x4x2 Zen Gold Label- 5x5x2 (pin up) box surface Attention Star-5x4x2

Storm DNA Coil Cover Stock: EXO Pearl Reactive Finish: Reacta Gloss Core: Supercoil Core (14pd) RG: 2.53 Differential: 0.048 Int Diff: 0.020 Layout: 2 x 6 x 5 - 2LS Layout Extras: 2 1/2" Finger Depth, "X" - 4 1/2 D and 1 Inch Left Tester: PAP 6 1/2 R, 1 1/4 D Review: The Storm DNA Coil is the second generation of the EXO coverstock but this time in a pearl offering. The original DNA performed well for me, especially on various sport tournament and sport league environments. Recently, the Storm Absolute Power replaced my original DNA in the arsenal as I felt it has been more versatile overall. I am however excited about the DNA Coil and really liked what I've seen and what I have evaluated in a number of players hands at recent SPI MatchMaker events. For my initial review I left the Reacta Gloss factory finish on this ball. The DNA Coil glides through the front part of the lane with ease. In my opinion this ball goes much longer than what is advertised. It's not in the strongest of asym categories but rather more in the middle range category. Knowing how my original DNA reacted I knew the DNA Coil would show more length than what folks generally would anticipate. After rolling several practice games on a typical 42' older HPL THS surface I decided to hit my DNA Coil with a 4K than a 3K pad. For me, it opened up more range compared to the OOB finish. I likely will hit my DNA Coil with a 2K Abralon pad to test even further. After a little lane shine built up on the slightly surfaced DNA Coil I was even more surprised and impressed with the results. One aspect I really like about this ball is it didn't quit or get into the roll phase too early. However, I needed to stay firm and slightly tighter angles to take full advantage of the DNA Coil. I'm excited to use this ball on medium volume THS and some sport patterns. In comparison to my Storm Virtual Energy Blackout and the newer Roto Grip Attention Star the DNA Coil seems to fit in between these two balls nicely. The DNA Coil is lengthy but still provides slower and more predictable read down lane than the VEBO and is slower in the hook phase compared to my Attention Star. Be sure to try out a DNA Coil and fill that gap for league/tournament medium volume patterns. I'm definitely excited to use the DNA Coil more to see if it makes the starter arsenal. Dual Angle Layout: 55 x 6 x 60 Storm Vector Layout: 6 x 4 1/8 x 4 3/8 Wow this ball is awesome, super clean through the front part of the lane and boy does it pack a punch on the backend. This ball reminds me a lot of the Exotic Gem. If you’re looking for a long and strong Assym this is the ball for you, oh and it smells amazing as well.

DNA COIL Cover: EXO Pearl Reactive Core: Supercoil RG: 2.47 RG Diff: 0.053 Int Diff: 0.023 My layout: 5 x 4.5 x 3.5 The DNA Coil is a Pearl Asymmetrical ball that I see working best on medium conditions. The EXO pearl cover feels pretty clean but not as long as say the Virtual Energy Blackout. The low rg asymm core combined with the clean cover creates to a medium/med-slow response motion ball. I have found that the DNA Coil is a slower shape than some of the other cleaner balls in the Storm/Roto/Global line. I see it best fitting in the Exotic Gem spot, so when balls like the VEBO and Attention Star are too quick and creating too much angle, the DNA Coil will give you the right shape. After seeing a few other players using the Coil, I think the “medium” length of the pearl cover makes it more on the speed/rev dependent side… Meaning if you are lower speed or more speed dominant you might see the Coil as a stronger ball than those who are higher speed and/or lower rev players. So I recommend adjusting your cover finish accordingly. Bowler stats: Left handed PAP: 5 x 1/4up Rev rate: 400

Cover: EXO Pearl Reactive Core: Supercoil RG: 2.47 RG. Diff.: 0.053 Finish: Reacta Gloss Fragrance: Orange Pineapple Slush Storm’s new DNA Coil is a Pearl Asymmetric Piece. This piece is good for Medium-Heavy Volume Patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. Drilled this piece with the Pin Up between the Fingers, CG kicked out 1.5” from the palm, 1/2” right of the Thumb. EXO Pearl provides length with a few boards of area check because it reads the midlane better than most other pearl pieces. Burned up 43’ house pattern, Out of Box ball motion was clean through the fronts, started in the mids with a strong backend reaction. I compared this piece Virtual Energy Blackout (1-1 Right) and Summit Peak (2-2 Right). This Versatile piece fits all styles of bowlers. DNA Coil - Ball Specs Cover Stock: EXO Pearl Reactive Finish: Reacta Gloss Core: Supercoil Core Layout: 50 x 5 x 40 RG: 2.47 Differential: 0.053 Intermediate Diff: .023 Review The Storm DNA Coil has a low RG 2.47 with a high differential 0.053. The EXO pearl reactive cover combined with the Supercoil Core creates a clean roll through the front part of the lane with a big backend, and great pin carry. I tested the DNA Coil on a 43 typical house pattern during league. I was able to stand anywhere from 20 to 32 boards and rolling the DNA Coil out to the right between the 5 and 10 boards with great carry. The DNA Coil is the closet ball reaction I have compared to the Exotic Gem. The DNA Coil will be best on medium oil patterns. This is a great ball for all levels of bowlers. Storm DNA Coil Layout: 5 x 4 x 2 Storm Pin Buffer Layout Rev Rate: 325 rpm, 7 degree of axis tilt, 40 degree of axis rotation Testing information: 41 foot THS (medium to light volume) Bowling Center: Fulton Bowling Center IKON Kegel Machine – Brunswick Anvilane The Storm DNA Coil utilizes the EXO Pearl Reactive cover along with the Supercoil Core. The scent is Orange Pineapple Sush. We tested alongside the Storm Virtual Energy Blackout. The DNA Coil was a touch earlier than VEBO but a touch weaker overall. We see the DNA Coil as your step down from your strong ball such as the Storm DNA. I think you may want to consider a surface change to the DNA Coil. Try it at box finish then change accordingly. The DNA Coil still uses the fast revving Supercoil core but provides more length to create a dynamic motion further down-lane. I tested the DNA Coil on the long heavy house pattern at my home center. I first tried it in league in the 3rd game to see if it was going to be better when the down-lane friction had developed. I noticed immediately that the early friction on our lane panels caused the ball to want to tip up too soon. The Coil is so responsive that it wanted to get forward a little too quickly with my lower ball speed. I decided to see what the DNA Coil looked like on fresh oil a few days later and that's when I really got an idea of how strong the reaction could be.. I tested it by first throwing it up the oil line with less rotation. I was very surprised at how well it handled the length of the pattern. I opened the angles a bit as I bowled to see how far I could push it right. Without having to add much rotation the ball kept climbing off the spot down-lane, no easy feat on 30 mils of oil and a 43 ft pattern but it responded beautifully. I think the ball will best suit people who are very rev challenged or speed dominant. With my ball speed I would reserve my personal use for longer patterns where I need the dynamic move in a small window. DNA Coil Ball Review Layout VLS-5x4x2.5 Dual Angle-50x5x37 Surface-Reacta Gloss Storm DNA Coil will fit into the storm lineup perfectly. Storm DNA coil features the same core from the orginal DNA but with the Exo pearl coverstock. The DNA coil will rev up nicely in the midlane but with a smooth flip on the backend. Its not too angular on the backend and it will be a good option on those over/under lane conditions. It will pit perfectly between the absolute power and the virtual energy blackout. If you feel like you need some shape on the backend and your vitual energy blackout is too angular the coil will be a great option. Attached below is my link to my ball video.
