Storm DNA Coil Bowling Ball

Not every bowler is made the same and not every bowling ball is made the same. As you discover your personal bowling DNA Profile, you can expect this new bowling ball to give you a great read of the midlane. If you drilled the original DNA, try the same layout on your DNA Coil and expect the same early-revving action, but with a longer, more angular ball motion we all look for as the lanes start to break down.

I drilled this ball specifically for USBC nationals after learning of the success that Stu Williams had with it there. It, however, never came into play for me as I enjoyed success with other equipment under the Storm umbrella. I can tell you that I can see why this ball was his go to. This ball does blend tough conditions extremely well and responds confidently to friction to find its way uphill to the pocket. This is a true winner.

Lane Condition 46ft Modified House Pattern Brunswick Pro Anvil Synthetics Emerson Lanes The new asymmetrical pearl in Storm Premier line is the DNA Coil. I was a big fan of the original DNA. I drilled mine 4 x4 x2 pin up. I took the finish down to 1000 abralon and added Storm Step 2. With the pearl cover it gave me a little more length than original, but it the Coil was really smooth for me off the friction. I would say the overall strength would be medium. It fits below the Gem's, Reality's, Absolute power. And stronger than the Idol, Phaze II, Summit, and Sublime. I found more success playing up the lane and mainly bumping the track area. For me the Coil is still a little forward rolling so I needed to keep my angles pretty straight through the front. There has been a lot of success at USBC nationals with the Coil, mainly from Stu Williams shooting 780-805 in S/D! Great addition to the Storm Line! Storm Bowling DNA Coil Ball Review!! Layout VLS-5.5x3.25x2 Dual Angle-40x5.5x30 The DNA Coil will be a great addition to storms premier line. The DNA Coil will fit in between my Absolute Power and my Virtual Energy Blackout. The DNA Coil will be my transition ball when my dull balls start becoming too early or smooth and the Virtual Energy Blackout is too clean or too angular. The DNA Coil will give me more length but still have a smoother predictable motion. The DNA Coil will be a ball that will go with me to league and tournaments. HAND: LEFT (ONE HANDED) PAP: 4 3/8 OVER / 1/16 UP BALL SPEED: 16MPH REV RATE: 420 AXIS TILT: 20 AXIS ROTATION: 50 LAYOUT: 60X5X65 The DNA COIL features the Super Coil Core paired up with the EXO Pearl coverstock, this ball for me was extremely clean out of the box and had quite a bit torque off the back of the pattern. This ball for me needed to have its surface adjusted to 1000 to get the ball to rev up a little earlier giving me the shape I was looking for. This ball is a full step up from my Attention Star and gives me more midlane and a stronger more defined motion when there is more volume on the lane. This ball would be excellent on multiple conditions and for various styles of players, players bowling on a house shot will be able to blend out the wet/dry with this ball.

The Storm DNA Coil is one of the HOTTEST balls on the market today. I drilled mine 5.5 x 5 x 5 and after the first time I threw this ball I knew it was going to be a huge success! For a pearl it is very continuous off the end of the pattern but still gets down the lane with ease and always just seems to strike. I have a few sets over 840 with this ball already and it’s been my go to piece when ever I bowl!

I was a huge fan of the original DNA made by Storm and seeing the news that a pearl version was being made, I couldn’t help but have full confidence this addition to the Premier line was going to be a home run. With the same asymmetrical weight block (Supercoil Core) and wrapped with the EXO pearl reactive coverstock, the goal was to create a shape that reads the mid-lane extremely consistently and effectively. I’ve drilled one so far and love it. It’s mapped out as 5.5 x 5 x 2. I’ve left the surface alone and have struck a bunch with it. Often times, it’s one of the first balls out of my bag and I’ve had the most success in the first few games of tournament blocks when the pattern is fresh. If there’s enough oil on the lane, I’ve been able to stay in it longer (due to the pearl cover) and create a nice left-to-right shape with it. I think it compliments the Attention Star, Eternity Pi, and Gem extremely well. If you need an extremely versatile ball with a huge motor and a pearl cover, go drill a DNA Coil! #StormNation

Layout: 4.25 x 3.25 x 5.25 Speed: 16-17 mph Style: Tweener, high tilt The DNA Coil is one of the most dynamic, aggressive pearl asymmetric balls that Storm has ever created. The Supercoil Core is the engine behind this monster, delivering a very quick-revving core (2.47 RG @ 15 lbs.), with a quite high intermediate differential of 0.023, which creates a very pronounced motion off the breakpoint. Compared to the Virtual Energy Blackout and the Attention Star, the combination of pearl cover and asymmetric core provides more "digging in" than the VEBO and the Star, which makes it very versatile and able to be used earlier in the block, and really excels when the heads are a little more toasty. If you liked the Exotic Gem, but wished that it would be a little more off the spot, this is the one for you!

The DNA Coil features the same Supercoil core as the original but this time it is wrapped in the EXO pearl reactive coverstock finished with Reacta Gloss. At 15 pounds the RG is a low 2.47 with a differential of .053 and an intermediate differential of .023. The DNA was probably the most misunderstood ball Storm released as it was thought to be this big hook monster, when in fact it was a strong controllable ball. Hopefully the Coil is not overlooked because this ball is special!! The Coil provides good length but picks up nicely in the midlane for a pearlized ball. The backend motion is a strong arc, not the skid/flip reaction you may expect from a pearl asymmetric, making this ball very controllable. The Coil is very versatile and can be used across a wide range of lane conditions as well as many different bowling styles. This ball has been a house shot killer in my area! Perfect ball when the solid asymmetric balls are burning up and the symmetricals just aren’t quite strong enough to kick out the corner pins.

Layout: 55 x 4 ½ x 35 The DNA coil is one of the strongest shiny balls that Storm has ever produced. The amount of midlane traction that this ball has is quite incredible, and it makes it extremely versatile. Due to the out of box shiny finish, the DNA Coil ignores the heads and works well on medium to medium/dry oil conditions, but it digs in the midlane enough to make it very usable on medium/heavy conditions as well. The reaction shape is a hard arc; not flippy or unpredictable, but not super smooth either. When the DNA Coil is too much ball for a certain condition, The Road or the Lightning Blackout are perfect compliments.

In movies, sequels are rarely better than the originals. But for Storm branded bowling balls, the sequels keep topping their originals. The DNA Coil which features a pearl version of the EXO Reactive cover kicked it up a notch from the original DNA. The supercoil core brings the RG down which really makes the ball rev and read the midlane. For the longest time, I’ve been looking for a ball that revs and reads the midlane while still having enough flare potential and energy to be continuous downlane. I have finally found it in the DNA Coil That pearl cover perfectly complements the revving core to ensure it doesn’t read too early. Still the cover seems very versatile. If the pattern has more volume and/or length and you need to knock the shine off, it will not over skid, read the midlane and continue on the backend. That’s exactly what I did on the Earl Anthony 43’ pattern at a PBA50 regional recently and the DNA Coil helped get me to a 3rd place finish. I drilled mine pin up, 4 ½ from my PAP and PSA 4” from my PAP. This is a great strong reactive and can be effective on a wide range of patterns.

My review: Drilled exactly like my solid which has so much control, The Coil is on steroids. Response to mid-lane friction is quicker and more pronounced but with the same control as the solid. I played longer in the track area during league (Bolero) which was a surprise due to the high friction league breakdown. Not the same as I tested on(different alley). I was also able to open my angles without given away carry. Typical light hits was above average. I see this ball as a compliment to the solid and ahead of my VEBO. The Storm DNA Coil is a testament to innovation and performance, precision crafting and engineering instills trust in its reliability frame after frame. The core's dynamic design and weight block configuration creates a powerful angular motion to maximize pin carry. PAP 5” Over 1/2 up Rev Rate 300. Tilt 20. Speed at release 17 Review: The Storm DNA Coil for me is an upgrade on the original DNA. This ball reads the midlane very well and has a nice move on the back end. The ball is very predictable for a strong shiny ball. I am not seeing any over under from this ball. For me this will be a medium to heavy oil condition ball. I left the DNA Coil at box surface and would put it between my IQ Ruby and Summit Peak in total hook. This is another good strong ball from SPI. What I like most about this ball is how it plays as the oil breaks down and the lanes transition. I am able to make confident moves and stay in my comfort zone. Summary: The DNA Coil is strong and predictable. The hit and carry is very good. I like this version better than the original. The second addition to the DNA line is the DNA Coil. The Coil uses the EXO pearl cover stock, polished with reacta gloss. My layout on this ball was 35x3.5x40 I wanted to get this ball to pick up fast and still have energy down lane to go through the pins correctly. What i found is I needed to hit this ball with a 3000 pad. Once I did this ball was really strong and is a stable in my bag. If you liked the DNA solid you will really like the Coil and what it brings to the table.

What I love the most about the DNA Coil is that I am getting a very big pearl that is controllable off the spot. The Coil has plenty of backend and hitting power but is not a check mark for me. It makes the move and just keeps its forward roll through the pocket and explodes the pins. For me the Coil is going to be a ball that I can start out with and migrate more towards the middle throughout league or through a tournament block and be in my hand for a while. For most, the DNA Coil will be something you use at the beginning of league and or in the front of a block and change out of it. I think this is going to be a fantastic ball and a surprise to many. Ball Specs: Storm DNA Coil Reacta Gloss EXO™ Pearl Reactive Weight Block: Supercoil™ Core (Asymmetrical) Color: Scarlet/Persian Blue/Raven Review: We were very big fans of the original DNA. Sometimes with new cover and core combos you never really know what to expect but it worked very well for our games. Putting a pearl cover around that core really made the DNA line that much sweeter. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). This ball is clean, not quite as clean as a summit peak for example but in our eyes that is a good for that first out of bag asymmetrical piece where you don’t really want that extremely long snappy shape. This ball is a carry monster with the angular shape it creates. It is probably our favorite release of 2024 so far. We see this as our first out of bag bowling ball for multiple patterns for that game 1 to game 2 scenario before balling down to a symmetrical piece. It honestly reminds me of the Reality Check more than anything. It’s cleaner, fast rev’ving and quick without being super quick. My game doesn’t match up to the SUPER big asym balls so the cleaner more usable asyms actually have a chance to make my regular bag. There’s a lot of times I need a bigger core to control the midlane and backend and but still need it to get through the fronts. The Coil is exactly like that, in the spirit of the Exotic and Eternity but in this case, the Coil is cleaner quicker.

Storm DNA Coil Ball Specs: EXO Pearl coverstock with the Supercoil core, surface finished with React a Gloss Layout: 5 X 5 X 3 VLS 2.0 Bowler specs: 15.5 mph and rev rate in the 380’s and my is PAP is 3 ¼ and at zero up/down and tested on Pro-Lane at ABC North Lanes in Harrisburg, Pa., and Colony Park Lanes and Games in York, Pa. During practice on the fresh house patterns at both locations were a little tricky on the reaction, as I saw if I got the ball between 15 and 17 boards at the arrows, there was a very defined reaction in the midlane and back end. If I projected the ball up 20-22 boards, it labored a good bit more. The sweet spot on the fresh and slightly used was to play in around the 3rd arrow and get the DNA COIL to roll right through the 2 down lane marker boards on Pro-Lane surface. A little flatter hand and moving left of center for me created that same look as long as I hit that sweet spot right between those two targets. The COIL’s reaction on HPL was of course a little sooner and stronger, both centers I bowl in have the all new Kegel Atlas machines, but one used terrain and the other uses Infinity – which is the center with HPL lane surfaces, which I feel the Infinity on that surface does not hold up well and continue through the day had to keep making more adjustments with the COIL and at the other center, the pattern held up better on the Pro-Lane, but the reaction was not a strong as I would like in a league play setting. The Coil will become a part of my league bag for Colony Park Lanes for the simple reason it has a better overall reaction on the fresh there and after a game or two, I can migrate to the Roto Grip Attention Star to finish out the match if need be. A good strong 2 ball step up from the Summit Peak and a full step for me from the Virtual Energy Blackout, AKA: VEBO. With the addition of the EXO Pearl Reactive coverstock combined with the fast-spinning Supercoil Core, the DNA Coil is an outstanding success in the Storm line! So, let’s take a closer look at Storm’s new masterpiece – the DNA Coil! From my first roll with the DNA Coil, I enjoyed how the Supercoil Core transfers energy throughout the lane. For a big asymmetric core, the Supercoil Core has a fast-revving motion in the mid-lane like a symmetric core, but rather than burn up its energy at the back end, which is what straighter players like me tend to see. The Supercoil Core builds momentum as it makes its path through the midline. And it retains a significant amount of inertia that explodes when it finds the roll phase. And when the DNA Coil starts rolling, get out of its way! The Supercoil Core rolls with a robust amount of energy that destroys the pin deck! And with its strong asymmetric design, the Supercoil Core has a steam-rolling continuation that destroys anything in its path! So, straighter and low–rev players like me will love the motion the Supercoil Core brings. What makes the DNA Coil come alive is the EXO Pearl Reactive coverstock. I found the EXO Pearl to be crisp, clean, and smooth throughout the night with the Reacta Gloss finish. However, when I sanded my DNA Coil with 2000-grit Abralon and followed it with Storm’s Rough Edge polish, there was no turning back! I loved how the EXO Pearl glides through the front part of the lane but griped smoothly in the mid-lane, creating a crisp and distinct turn-off the pattern you could trust! And whether it was early on a fresh THS or later on broken down, spotty conditions, I could count on the EXO Pearl coverstock to keep my DNA Coil rolling smoothly on the shim line without being jumpy or snapping off the back end. So, if you are a straighter player like me, the EXO Pearl reactive coverstock will fit nicely into your game! In conclusion, the Storm DNA Coil brings a new dynamic look to Storm’s Premier line. I found the Supercoil Core and the EXO Pearl Reactive coverstock a winning combination that makes the DNA Coil an excellent ball choice for any straighter, high-speed, low-rev player like me. The DNA Coil rolls hard, cuts decisively, and destroys the pins. • Storm - DNA Coil

Posted by Kristijonas S. on Apr 4th 2024

The Storm DNA Coil features a low RG Supercoil Core that that helps the ball read he midlane better and the EXO Pearl coverstock that provides a little more length and compliments the early revving core. I believe this DNA Coil has a lot to offer and it shouldn’t be overlooked. With a lot differential and intermediate differential available in the core of the DNA Coil, I drilled mine with a standard pin-down layout: 55 x 5 x 75. Because of the cleaner nature of this coverstock and the polish on top of it, at first, I felt like the bowling ball was a little to clean for what was it intended to be. I saw a little bit of over/under reaction on multiple patterns. I then put just a little bit of surface on my DNA Coil and the reaction looked much better to my eyes. After the surface change, the bowling ball created an early rolling an predictable ball motion that, in my mind, think can be very useful on multiple patterns and lane surfaces. You can definitely notice the early revving, low RG of this core. In my opinion, this DNA Coil is a sleeper bowling ball. Bowlers, that are looking for an earlier rolling, shiny asymmetrical bowling ball, will definitely find the DNA Coil to be very good. It seems that this coverstock is very versatile and can be used on newer and older lane surfaces. Even though this core has very low RG, I was surprised how continuous the bowling ball was as I was able to use this DNA Coil while playing multiple angles on the lane. I will add that I believe this DNA Coil will work very well on medium oil patterns that require steeper launch angles, especially on higher friction lane surfaces. This ball has quickly become one of my favorites. Watch myself and Verity Crawley throw the DNA Coil on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItYjbsaaFfQ&t=163s

This ball delivers on the areas the original missed. I was limited where I could use the original DNA solid. But this ball has busted the lanes and pins wide open. The reliable mid lane shape and extremely strong and continuous back end make this ball a winner. I'm a speed dominate bowler who can struggle to have success with pearl balls at times. But this ball is an absolute must in the bag. Its a Ball 1 piece in the arsenal and will burn up the lanes fast. But if you tend to have slow starts like I do this is the gene your missing in your game.

One thing I loved about the original DNA was that you could move left with it and still have it recover. Now I can just go straight to the coil and it just hits like a truck. This line is slowly becoming a top 3 favorite.

This has become a favorite of mine during leagues in centers where they tend to hook early. I have been using this on the fresh on those earlier hooking surfaces and the ball has been phenomenal. We see cleanliness yet tons of mid lane read and continuation. For comparison purposes, I see this as a cleaner option versus an Exotic Gem and a great step down off the stronger asymmetrical and or symmetrical solids. This ball is designed for medium to heavier oil conditions and can be used either directly on the fresh and/or early lane transition

Layout: 4 1/2 x 4 x 2 VLS I think the original DNA was one of the most underrated balls from 2023. The original wasn’t a huge hooking ball, but people seemed to think that the ball was a huge hook monster. It was a very smooth, very continuous ball that could be used on a variety of conditions. The DNA Coil builds on that reaction by changing the coverstock from EXO Solid on the original to EXO Pearl on the DNA Coil. The EXO Pearl changed the shape of the ball completely! The original was extremely smooth and the DNA Coil is a very strong hockey stick shape. I found the box surface to have a little bit too much over/under on the well used league shot. I took a used 2000 pad and lightly scratched up the surface by hand. That light scratching really smoothed out the reaction without losing the angular motion on the back end. My Specs - Speed - 16 mph, Rev Rate - 315. PAP 5 1/8 x 7/8 Up.

Sam Cooper Roto Grip Amateur Staff. The DNA Coil features the EXO pearl coverstock along with the Supercoil Core. Layout is 45x5 1/4”x75(pin down). I prefer to have a pin down pearl in the bag for the surfaces around Pittsburgh. After the first DNA rolled so well for me I went with a similar layout just a weaker pin. With the coil you see similar tendencies of the OG with just a cleaner and quicker response to the friction. This ball is great for when the fronts are burnt up a bit but need control on the back end. The Supercoil core has enough strength and the EXO pearl cover has enough traction to hook in oil. Where I have used the DNA Coil is after the Optimum Idol when that tends to be too early or when it won’t go through the pins correctly. I bowl in a house shot burn league on a high friction surface. The Coil has no trouble getting through the body of the house shot and giving me controllable pop on the back end. Then when the Coil is too smooth(think this is due to the layout) I can go to the Attention Star or VEBO to get more on the back end and better pin carry. The Coil will be a good option in the bag for anyone that wants a strong pearl or the environment you in has friction in the fronts. Don’t sleep on the Coil if striking is in your DNA!
