Technology is in our DNA!

WHEN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY COLLIDE

We start from the innermost part, the weight block, and work our way out. In this case, it’s the inventive Supercoil weight block. The intent was to develop a super low RG shape with a greater undrilled intermediate differential. Traditionally, weight blocks with more of the mass placed around the equator drive the RG down and read the midlane better. The cutaway on the Y-axis helps to maintain dynamic integrity after drilling. When it’s time, the coverstock is poured. In just a few minutes as the liquid transitions to a solid, an extreme amount of heat (about 200 °F) needs to be released for this to happen.

IT'S ALL WITHIN US

We refer to this as “exotherm”. This stage in the process is crucial to the chemistry of the coverstock and by controlling the peak temperature, heat rate, and cooldown speed we can manipulate the chemical porosity deep within that helps with oil absorption and displacement. This creates caverns of porosity and cliffs so deep which give this state-of-the-art shell the kind of cutting-edge traction that’ll leave you in awe. Enter: EXO Reactive coverstock.

Layout: 4 1/2 x 4 1/4 x 4 1/2 Surface: 2000 Grit Abralon The brand new Storm DNA brings a brand new Core and Coverstock combination for the Premier Line. The brand new Supercoil core brings a Low RG, High differential and a higher PSA value. This core has a few cutouts in order to keep the differential higher after drilling. Very similar to the Absolute, the DNA keeps strong dynamics in the core after drilling. The new EXO Coverstock is a strong and more dynamic Coverstock to handle higher volumes of oil while giving a high amount of continuation. I had the opportunity to test this on a typical house pattern and a 41ft sport pattern. On the house pattern, I saw a strong midlane roll but saw a lot more push in the front part of the lane than I expected. I was on a house pattern that is 44ft but generally has a lot of overall friction. Normally, solid asymmetrical balls do not work very well for me on this particular house pattern. This was a little different for the DNA. This control of this ball allowed me to be closer to the friction without the ball overseeing it. This characteristic allowed me to move further right with my feet than I would usually be which gave me a straighter target to my target and thus increasing my pin carry. The 2000 grit abralon got the ball long enough down the lane that the ball didn't see the transition as quickly as a similar ball would give me. On this particular house pattern, I would keep the ball at this surface for best results. On the 41ft sport pattern, I actually saw similar ball reaction to the house pattern. The ball was clean but strong in the midlane and so ample continuation. My pin down layout made the ball fairly smooth and gave a lot of control on the sport compliant pattern. I was on a Pro-Anvil lane surface so there was a lot less friction than my house pattern test. At the 2000 grit surface, I saw a little bit over/under on the fresh. A Roto Grip Gem for me rolled stronger in the front part of the lane and had less continuation down lane. I adjusted the DNA's surface to 1000 grit to give me a little closer ball reaction to the Gem. I still actually saw similar comparisons even at 1000 grit. The DNA was essentially a step down from the Gem while still giving me that earlier roll and smoother down lane motion. The difference between the two balls to me can still warrant having both balls in your arsenal depending on your style. The DNA to me felt like an asymmetrical version of the Phaze 2. This ball gives a lot of versatility in terms of drilling and overall ball reaction where other typical strong solids do not give that. As the lanes broke down, I was able to move further left with my feet and target and saw enough continuation to get the corner pins out. Based on what I saw out of this sport and house pattern tests, the DNA can be a good fresh ball with the possibility of being a first transition ball as well .

Core: Supercoil Asymmetric Cover: EXO Solid Reactive Finish: 2000 Abralon RG: 2.53 (14lb) Differential: 0.048 (14 lb) PSA: .020 ME: Right-Handed Tweener Speed: 12-13 mph Rev Rate: 315 Axis Tilt: 14° Axis Rotation: 74° PAP: 5 1/8 R 7/8 Up Ball Layout: Pin over Bridge 5 1/4 X 5 1/4 X 3 VLS The new Storm DNA brings back the strong early motion to the Premier line. It features a brand new coarse cover stock called EXO solid. At it's box 2k finish this ball GRABS at the front of the lane. To complete the intense hooking power of this ball the new core Supercoil gives it a big motor on the inside too. The result is a ball made to conquer heavy oil. I first tested the DNA in league on the normal high volume house pattern. The front of the lane beds in my home center feature a lot of friction so the volume has been increased to counteract. The 43 ft of oil makes it a requirement to have a strong first ball out of the bag. The DNA's potent early hook is tailor made for this condition as it never seems to miss the front, so it can't get too far right down-lane the way so many other balls seem too. I was very impressed with the pin action I saw from the DNA. Of the other balls that I would put at the top of the hook potential list I would put it between the Gem and the Reality although much closer to the Gem. In-brand the best comparison would probably be the Proton Physix so it should work well as a replacement for people who miss that ball. Obviously people who are speed dominant/rev challenged are going to love this ball, but take it from a guy who's on the lower end of ball speed, the DNA is fantastic when the lanes are oily. Storm DNA Cover Stock: EXO Solid Reactive Finish: 2000 Grit Abralon Core: Supercoil Core RG: 2.47 Differential: 0.053 Int Diff: 0.023 Layout: 5 x 4 x 4 - 2LS Layout Extras: 2 1/8 Finger Depth, "X" - 4 1/2 D and 1 Inch Left Tester: PAP 6 1/2 R, 1 1/4 D Review: The Storm DNA features an all new core and covetstock design. For those that are looking for a similar motion to the Storm Proton Physix or the Super Nova will enjoy the DNA, which provides a new look for your bigger asym solids. At recent MatchMaker events the DNA has sparked bowling enthusiasts. For my review I left the 2000 Abralon factory finish on this ball. I was pleasantly surprised how much the DNA glided through the front part of the lane in comparison to the other balls I mentioned above. After a little lane shine built up on the DNA I was even more surprised and impressed with the results. One aspect I really liked about this ball is it didn't quit or get into the roll phase too early. I'm excited to use this ball on heavier to medium volume THS and some sport patterns. In comparison to my Super Nova where I took a fresh factory 2000 finish and hit the ball four sides with a new 4000 pad to get through the fronts better, the DNA surface did not require an adjustment. For me, my slower ball speed generally has me surfacing balls up slightly to clear the front part of the lane. If my situation is similar to you, you will notice in a few games your new solid will calm down from the oob finish. In regards to transition, I really enjoy what the DNA has to offer. The DNA allows a great deal of forgiveness and it is easy to see when you will need to make a change. The Super Nova along with the DNA make a nice one two punch if you desire a two ball combination out of a block of bowling on heavier volume patterns. Be sure to try out a DNA and fill that gap for fresh league and heavier volume tournament patterns. I'm definitely excited to use the DNA more in tournament competion. I drilled my DNA 4 1/2 x 4 x 2 1/2. I left this one at the box finish to see what it could do. The early word on the DNA from other staffers is it looks like an asymmetric PHAZE II both in color and motion. I immediately thought the same thing. The DNA has that easy motion just like the PHAZE II except definitely a stronger cover as it blended out the lane easier I compared it to the SUPER NOVA and GEM, both of the other stronger pieces that I have thrown. The SUPER is a lot more back end motion and I needed my feet further left. The GEM was earlier and it seemed like there just was not enough head oil on the lane to get it to hold energy to hit as I left a lot of burn tens. I did also throw a couple of other balls to ball down like the ABSOLUTE which was about 3-4 boards weaker in the front but quicker down lane and a DARK CODE that I really like on house. The DARK CODE was about 2-3 boards weaker on the house shot down lane. The DNA really played off the DARK CODE for me as I could move off the DNA when it was time for a change. Drill up an DNA if you loved your PHAZE II and just felt it wasn't enough when the lanes had more volume or were longer and you didn't want to put 500 or 1000 on it. Also if one of your stronger pearls just isn't reading early enough. This is where the DNA excels. It is stronger but controllable.

My new ball review on the Storm Bowling DNA. Layout: 55 x 2 1/2 x 35 at box condition of 2000 grit Abralon. Supercoil core with the new EXO solid reactive coverstock. Tested and used on older HPL and newer SPL at two local bowling centers, Colony Park Lanes and Hanover Bowling Centre. Practiced for over 2 hours with the DNA, the Storm iQ Ruby, and Roto Grip TNT. Was able to use the DNA on the fresh conditions and when I beat up the pattern with these three different balls. The Supercoil core is very potent when it comes to performance of getting the ball down the lane without pushing the ball too far down the lane. The new coverstock - EXO solid reactive is an intense solid reactive coverstock because of the chemical reaction when the material goes from a liquid form to a solid. The reaction is called: exotherm. For me the DNA was a HUGE step up from the other reactive solid I am currently using, the Roto Grip TNT, the motion off the pattern was stronger and bigger movement the TNT. The DNA did not quit on me at any point during my practice sessions and in league. I cannot believe this ball is this GOOD!. The surface has held up very well on the demo balls in the Storm Matchmaker set I have used over the past few months. Easy to keep clean and is a great choice for any level and style of bowlers out there. Please see your local pro shop for your new ball! Thanks to the crew at Bowlers' Supply, Inc, Roto Grip, Colony Park Lanes and Vise Inserts for all the support and assistance! Remember to Bowl Up a Storm! #SquadRG #Coolwick #ViseInserts

DNA - Ball Specs Cover Stock: EXO Solid Reactive Cover Stock Finish: 2000 grit Abralon Core: Supercoil Core Layout: 60 x 5 x 75 RG: 2.47 Differential: 0.053 Intermediate Diff: .023 Review The all new Storm DNA has a super low RG shape with a high differential. The EXO solid reactive cover combined with the Supercoil Core creates an early midlane read with a big backend, and great pin carry. I tested the Absolute on a 43 typical house pattern. This ball needs oil. I was able to play track area with great success, standing from 21 to 30. The DNA will be best on medium and heavy oil patterns. This is a great ball for all levels of bowlers.
