Storm Bionic Review by Casey Murphy
Orientation: Right Handed Rev Rate: 400 RPM Speed: 16-17 MPH PAP: 4 1/8 over and 1 up Location: Enterprise Park Lanes, Springfield MO Pattern: High Volume THS VLS Layout: Layout 1: 4 3/8 x 4 x 2 ½ (Pin above bridge) Layout 2: 4 x 4 x 3 7/8 (pin below bridge) Strength Rating (out of 10) : 8 Shape: Medium Sharp Best Use: Medium/Heavy oil The Bionic is one of the best symmetricals Storm has released ever. The Phaze 2 Pearl was very good, but the Bionic might even be better! The Bionic picks up plenty in the fronts and continues like crazy through the deck. Most hybrids tend to get forward and stop but the Bionic runs the 8 pin over on repeat. It’s a consistent versatile motion that you can use on a variety of conditions. I have it a touch cleaner than the Phaze 2 OG and a touch Smoother than the Phaze 2 Pearl. It slots perfectly between!

Storm Bionic
Bionic is the newest iteration of the Element core shape found in the Ion series. This symmetrical Torsion A.I. core really sets itself apart from other upper mid symmetricals in the lineup in terms of hook shape. Familiar to the Ion Max, this ball just. keeps. hooking. I feel like I can get it back from anywhere, but at the same time it's never too jumpy or unpredictable. The NRG Hybrid cover, featured on the Physix and All Road (two of my favorites), goes hand-in-hand with the Torsion A.I. core to produce a uniquely consistent, punchy, continuous hook shape that really compliments my other go-to symmetricals like the RockStar and Phaze 2 Pearl. This has been the first ball out of my bag more and more; you do not want to miss out on this unique piece from SPI!

Ball Specs: Storm Bionic NRG Hybrid Reactive A.I. Symmetric Core Finish 4000 Grit Layout 4 x4 with 2” Pin Buffer Bowler Specs: Right Hand. PAP 5” Over 1/2 up Rev Rate 300. Tilt 20. Rotation 50. Speed at release 17 Review: The Bionic is a great new addition to the Storm line of balls. I feel I can recommend this ball to almost anyone and they will have success. The Bionic is a strong benchmark ball from what I am seeing and is useful on multiple conditions. I would describe mine as an original Phase 2 with a bit more hook and better backend. I have played around with the cover by adding polish and the change was less than I expected, probably because of the 4K box finish but I did get more length and backend. I then sanded the Bionic to 1000 / 2000 Abralon and I think that worked best for me. The ball was earlier, smoother and provided a bit more hook on our tighter house shot. The ball rolls and hits very good. I think the A.I. core is noticeable in this ball related to pin carry. I may ruffle some feathers, but this ball may replace my Phase 2 in my personal bag. The Bionic is already a great selling ball and has been winning on tour. The colors are also very appealing. I would put this ball below my Equinox Solid but above my HyRoad in total hook. Summary: The Bionic has a strong benchmark shape. The Balls is very user friendly. The Bionic could give the Phase 2 a challenge for fan favorite. BIONIC BY RGR
Storm BIONIC Ball specs: All new Torsion A.I. core wrapped in NRG hybrid coverstock with surface finish at 4000 grit. Layout: 4 x 4 x 1. My Specs: Rev rate 420’s, ball speed 15.3 to 15.8 mph off the hand, axis tilt of 16 degrees and axis rotation of 70 degrees, PAP is 3 13/16th up 1/8th. Here is what’s up with the all new Storm Bionic for me: The all new Torsion A.I. core was to produce a smooth and controllable arc and the NRG hybrid cover provides balanced traction and takes surface adjustments very easily. The BIONIC is the next level to the already well received ION series. For me, the BIONIC is the most versatile and reliable ball I have used in many seasons, probably since the Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid that I used at so many leagues and tournaments a few years ago, and still have one drilled that is in my tournament arsenal. In all three centers I have used the BIONIC , which all have different lane surfaces, like Pro-Lane, HPL, and SPL, the ball has been nothing but awesome. In the centers that have HPL and Pro-Lanes, the back ends are cleaner and more crisp, I can open up the angles at the breakpoints and allow a little swing in the shot making, creating a stronger arc path into the pocket, which leads to better pin carry and better scores! On the center with SPL, the backends tend to be not as clean and with less friction on the panels, I can square up and tighten the shot making line and still have a strong entry into the pocket. Another wonderful item for noting is that I have been able to stay in the BIONIC most of the league nights, if not the whole night. My RockStar is still my #1 BALL since last year because of how strong and reliable it is, but the BIONIC is now the #2 BALL in my league bags, which now consist of: RockStar, BIONIC, Vengeance, Ion MAX Pearl, Gremlin, and Gremlin Tour-X. Are you curious about what makes the Bionic such a great release? From my perspective, it’s the perfect blend of core and cover, melded together to improve any player’s game. So, let’s take a closer look at the Bionic and why it deserves a place in your arsenal! The all-new Torsion A.I. Core provides stability, consistency, and predictability for any straighter player’s game. I enjoyed the smooth mid-lane shape that the Torsion A.I. Core delivered and appreciated the consistent, steady motion I observed when the Bionic came off the pattern. However, I will say that the Bionic is more than a benchmark, predictable ball. With the addition of the flip block to the Torsion core, I enjoyed seeing the momentum build up and then explode at the pocket. Additionally, with the proven power of the A.I. technology surrounding the Torsion Core, I valued the strong pin-crushing continuation I saw with the Bionic! So, if you’re a straighter player like me, the Torsion A.I. Core is an excellent choice for your game. Now, let’s talk about the NRG Hybrid coverstock! Those who read my reviews know Hybrid coverstocks are my top choice for any THS pattern, as they offer the most versatility across different conditions I encounter. The NRG Hybrid coverstock on the Bionic delivers one of the best, most versatile Hybrid blends I’ve seen in the Storm line. I loved the smooth traction I experienced with the NRG Hybrid! On fresh conditions, with the box 4000-grit Abralon surface, the NRG Hybrid glides beautifully through the front of the lane and maintains a relaxed, smooth grip in the mid-lane, giving the Bionic plenty of time to make its move. Then, as the Bionic responds to the pattern, the NRG Hybrid provides a clean, crisp, and decisive turn that straighter players appreciate. Additionally, as a straighter player, I enjoyed how the NRG Hybrid effortlessly handled transitioning lane conditions and stayed consistent across all three league games. Keep in mind, you will need to keep moving in with the Bionic; however, with the NRG Hybrid coverstock, you can be confident those adjustments will produce the results you want. In conclusion, the Bionic is a fantastic new release from Storm. The younger generation will tell you the Bionic is “fire,” and older folks like me will say it’s a smoking new release! Either way, the new Storm Bionic is an excellent combination of Torsion A.I. Core and NRG Hybrid Coverstock that will deliver great results for any straight player like me. The Bionic is more versatile than a Phaze II and has more punch and pizazz to keep you striking. So, visit your local Storm VIP Pro Shop today and have your Storm Bionic ready to help you wind down your fall season, because the Bionic will deliver! Bionic
Ball Specs: Bionic Review: The Storm Bionic (released February 27, 2026) is engineered as the ultimate symmetrical benchmark, bridging the gap between iconic balls like the Phaze II and the Ion series. It features the new Torsion™ A.I. Core, which "revolves" the stacked ellipse DNA of the Ion Max into a symmetrical shape, maintaining a low 2.47 RG for early stability while offering a strong .050 differential for significant flare and backend continuation. Wrapped in the proven NRG™ Hybrid Reactive coverstock and finished at 4000-grit Abralon, the Bionic provides a smooth, "read-everything" motion that is cleaner through the front than a solid but more digging than a pearl. This combination makes it a versatile "go-to" option for medium-to-heavy oil, offering the predictability of a symmetrical core with the signature Storm "torque" and pin-crushing power off the end of the pattern. Bionic
The Storm Bionic features the NRG Hybrid reactive cover wrapped around the new Torsion A.I. symmetrical core, coming in with a low RG (~2.47) and higher differential (~0.050), which gives it a strong midlane read with plenty of flare and continuation, all at a 4000-grit finish that keeps it clean but still very readable on medium to heavy oil . For me, this ball is exactly what I want in a true benchmark piece—it picks up in the midlane without being too early and gives me a smooth but strong arc that I can trust on just about anything. It feels stronger and more dynamic than something like a Phaze II, especially in terms of overall hook and continuation, but still keeps that same predictable shape that makes it easy to stay lined up. I’ve found it to be one of those balls I can start with and stick with for a while, because it blends the lane really well without getting jumpy or over/under, and when I need something that’s versatile but still has some teeth, the Bionic has been a really reliable option.

Storm Bionic - Master Line Coverstock: NRG Hybrid - 4000 Abralon Core: Torsion A. I. RG: 2. 47 Differential: . 050 Fragrance: Cherry Cobbler The Storm Bionic is a strong symmetric hybrid ball whose core is based upon the asymmetric Ion series. The Bionic is one of the strongest Symmetric balls that I have thrown in quite some time. The cover feels very strong and grips the lane early, but with the core, it is able to retain enough energy to hook down lane as well. For me this is a slight step down from the Ion Max solid, and make a great 1-2 punch for heavier oil. Also with now 3 wins on the PBA tour so far this season, it may be ball of the YEAR!

Storm Bionic Ball Review The Storm Bionic features a new core design called Torsion AI which is built off the Ion Max weight block but in a symmetrical version. Its wrapped with the NRG Hybrid Coverstock RG-2.47 Diff-.050 Surface-4000 Grit Abralon Layout VLS-5x4.5x2.5 I found the Bionic to be a very versatile piece in my arsenal and it takes cover changes very well. In the polish state its very clean with a very responsive motion on the backend and with more surface it reads the midlane very well with strong continuation on the backend. For me the Bionic will be a step down when my Ion Max is too strong and my Phaze 2 or Ion Pro balls aren't strong enough. The Bionic will be a ball i will use on longer patterns or heavier volume patterns.

Bionic- Your next ball
The Bionic is a fantastic addition for anyone needing a new symmetrical ball in their bag. I was pleasantly surprised by the power this ball has. I drilled it 5 x 3 x 2 (PAP 5 right 1 ¼ up). I tried this ball on a burnt-up house shot, and it blended the lane nicely to where I had confidence it would get back to the pocket. Having drilled the original Ion Pro, I can see similarities in the two. However, the shape in the back is smooth on the Bionic. I am eager to try it in league and tournaments!

Bionic - The 6 Million Dollar Ball
Storm has launched its new Tournament Collection- balls intended for tournament conditions, balls that will thrive on those flatter, more demanding tournament patterns. In the Collection is a new ball in the Ion series which perfectly fills a gap in that line. I love the Ion Max (as many bowlers do) because the cover was very strong, which made it slow response, yet a big core which allowed it to continue down lane. So the Ion Max is great on high volume and fresh patterns. But when Ion Max is too early and runs out of gas, there is a pretty big gap to the next ball (in the Ion series that would be the Ion Pro Solid which I find is best shiny, so it’s still pretty clean). Enter the Bionic. First, it is the same NRG cover from the Ion Max, but it’s hybrid (4000 abralon factory finish) instead of solid, so that gets the Bionic to push easier through the front part of the lane. Next, Storm took the Element Max A.I. core from the Ion Max and modified it to be symmetrical, but kept the RG the exact same (2.47 for 15#). The new core is Torsion A.I. and because it’s symmetrical, there is a slower change of direction in the midlane keeping it on line longer. The dif is between the Ion Max and the Ion Pro Solid at (0.050 for 15#) which still has plenty of engine to get it to continue on the back end. As we have already seen on the PBA tour, the Bionic helped Brandon Bonta shoot 300 and win his first title and then Patrick Dombrowski win his first title, a major at the US Open. The Bionic is a must have in your bag and fits as a stronger symmetrical that fills that gap between the big asyms and the medium balls in your arsenal. I drilled mine 5 x 5 x 2 (5” pin to PAP, up 2” from the vertical axis line (VAL)).

Bionic Review
The Storm Bionic is the newest addition to the ongoing Tournament Series collection. This symmetrical hybrid is featured with the Torsion AI Core, along with the NRG Hybrid Reactive Cover Stock, and finished with 4000-grit with a medium-high flare potential. This ball feels like a game changer, engineering the performance of the Ion Max and creating a symmetrical shape for more versatility for all styles. Ball layout: 70 x 5 3/8 x 40. My first impressions throwing the Bionic on a 42ft league pattern was… wow for a symmetrical hybrid, this ball is strong! Super clean through the front part of the lane, and a very smooth response to the back part of the lane. What I like about the Bionic is it gives you more room to play without rolling early, even in the friction. For a versatile ball, the Bionic would fit perfectly in your tournament arsenal when it comes to bowling on those demanding medium-heavy lane conditions. It just has that super clean look, along with predictable ball motion down lane. I consider the Bionic would fit right in the middle of my bag in between an Ion Max and Ion Pro Solid. I feel Storm has hit a home run with this ball and could be an early candidate for ball of the year. If you are looking to add a benchmark/versatile ball into your bag, the Bionic is the ball for you! Be sure to drill one up today at your local Storm VIP Pro Shop, you won’t be disappointed!!

Storm Bionic Review
Layout: 75 x 4 x 40 PAP: 1" Up, 3.5" Over Speed: 14 mph Rev Rate: ~330 rpm Style: Right-Handed Tweener Lane Condition: 40' House Shot Lane Surface: Synthetic with built-in friction I drilled the Storm Bionic with a 75 x 4 x 40 dual-angle layout and tested it on a typical 40-foot house shot on synthetic lanes that have some built-in friction. With my specs (14 mph ball speed and around 330 revs), the Bionic gives me a very readable and predictable motion. The ball gets through the front part of the lane clean while still picking up a strong midlane read. As it exits the pattern, it makes a smooth but continuous move off the spot rather than a sharp flip. On my center’s synthetic lanes, the ball creates a strong arc that blends the wet/dry well and continues nicely through the pins. For my game, the Bionic fits well as a benchmark-style piece for league. I can start near the track area early and migrate inside as the lanes transition while keeping a consistent shape. Bowlers with medium speed and rev rates looking for a controllable motion on house conditions should match up well with this ball. Overall, the Storm Bionic offers a strong, predictable reaction with great continuation, making it a solid option for league bowlers who want a reliable ball to handle typical house shots.

Bionic!
The Bionic is SPI’s latest addition to the Ion line. The Bionic featured the Torsion AI core wrapped in NRG Hybrid. The Bionic builds perfectly off the rest of the Ion line, providing a higher traction cover/core combo without impeding on the strength of the Ion Max. The Bionic for me has been the perfect ball to go to after my Vengeance starts seeing the front part of the lane too early but my window isn’t large enough to go to my Ion Pros. The Bionic is now available from any Storm VIP Pro Shop! Review Video: https://youtu.be/QvLcW41C7M8?si=v7PC5-B3F4_n7jT4

Bionic Review
Layout: 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 Surface: 4000 Rev Rate: 470 Tilt: 13* The new Bionic is the symmetrical hybrid version of the popular Ion Max. It utilizes the new Torsion A.I core and paired with the NRG Hybrid coverstock. My first impression about this ball before I threw it was that it would be too early rolling and not very consistent with the NRG coverstock. I was completely wrong! I tested this on my typical 43ft house pattern. I tried throwing it on the fresh up around the 10 board and I proceeded to miss the head pin left on my first shot. I knew this one had some teeth in it but not the early kind. It got through the front with ease and stored so much energy for the backend. As I continued to throw this ball, I could tell it had ample continuation to it. I moved into 20 with my feet and tried to throw it to 5 down lane. Again, too much continuation and hook on the backend. This told me it was going to be a better transition ball. As I threw a full game and some transition occurred, I was still able to move left and see the Bionic still come around the corner fairly easy. At the end of my testing, I was able to get to 35 with my feet and throwing it to around 7 down lane and the ball STILL KEPT COMING! It was really impressive to watch. This is one of those balls that will give you that hook on a wide variety of oil conditions. From medium to heavier oil, I don't feel this will have any issue hooking appropriately. I think this will be great for a wide variety of bowler styles as well. Its great continuation will make this ball a staple in many people's bag. Compared to the phaze 2, I saw a little more length and a stronger backend continuous motion. it is not as early and smooth as the Ion Max as well. I wouldn't call this Bionic a benchmark per say but it is a ball that will be great as a first or second transition ball especially as the lanes get more wet/dry. I can see this ball being great for the tournament bowler also. I am planning on bringing this ball as part of my nationals arsenal because it is that versatile!

Storm Bionic
The Storm Bionic is now my go to middle of the bag ball. It's a little cleaner than the Phaze II and Rockstar and a little bit sharper than both which definitely suits me as a bowler. I loved the original Ion Pro and the Ion Pro Solid, so I had pretty high hopes for this one. Safe to say the Bionic still exceeded the bar I set. I was pretty intrigued when I heard that the idea with this core was to chop the asymmetry off of the Ion Max core and keep the pancake stack style to it. I absolutely love it as it makes it a little sharper down lane from the original Ion Pro series. Aside from ball reaction, this is 100% the prettiest ball I have ever seen rolling down the lane. Everybody should have one of these in their bag!

Storm Bionic - Power where it counts
The Storm Bionic is a strong symmetric hybrid ball whose core is based upon the asymmetric Ion series. The result is a ball that reads the back of the pattern in the right place and explodes on the backend of the lane. This might be the strongest last 15 feet of any symmetric ball I've ever thrown. If you're looking for a ball that gives you all the backend power you'll ever need, but also gives you a decent amount of length and won't hook early unless the lanes are starting to get toasted, this is the ball you want to look at. The Bionic gives me that little extra length I need when the asymmetrical balls wont allow me to get through the heads later in league play. On fresh I can still open the lanes up a bit but the ball can be a little speed sensitive to start. I can play multiple angles with ease. And just focus on making quality shots. The Bionic gives that iconic Storm shape everybody loves to see down lane! I highly recommend this ball to many bowlers as this will be one of those eye grabbing pin hopping balls. This ball really gets into a heavy roll and just crushes the pins.

Drilling pattern: 4 3/8” pin to PAP with a 2 5/8” pin buffer. PAP: 4.5 over x 1 up. Pin position: Above and slightly right of my bridge. I’ve personally been looking for a suitable ZEN SOUL replacement for a couple of years and I think I may have finally found it. The STORM BIONIC provides everything the ZEN SOUL did, with just a little more aggression. The cover stock seems to be a touch stronger but still has the same great down lane motion. I used this ball on both a THS as well as the 2025 USBC OC pattern and the conclusion was the same. The ball has enough teeth to dig in the oil, but the core retains enough energy to make a very strong motion down lane. This ball fits perfectly when there is some carry down and you need to start opening your angles and playing through the oil in the middle of the lane. I see this ball being very usable for all bowlers and being a staple in my tournament arsenal for the foreseeable future. Brent Ritchie SPI Pro Shop Staff Member

Bionic Review by Kyle, Joel, & Dean Johnson
Storm Bionic Coverstock: NRG™ Hybrid Reactive 4000-grit Weight Block: Torsion™ + AI Core (Symmetrical) Color: Electric Blue/Magenta/Deep Purple Fragrance: Cherry Cobler Review: This is a special piece. Not surprised to see Kris Prather with an entire arsenal of Bionic’s at the Pete Weber PBA stop. First off this ball surprised us with how strong it is. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). This is stronger with more backend than a Phaze II. Honestly, it shapes a lot like the Origin with a smoother and more controllable start through the front and mid parts of the lane. For the price point this is a great buy. Probably one of the strongest symmetrical hybrids that SPI has ever put out. We see this piece being a first or second out of bag. Once the front part of the lanes starts to get beat up this ball will start to read quite early. We have been opening up with this ball before transitioning to an IQ AI or next factor. Overall this ball looks really good, smells good, and performs well. Great release! Storm Bionic Review by Lonnie Pemberton
TESTING ENVIRONMENT Length:45 Volume: Med - High Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):THS COMMENTS Core: Torsion™ A.I. I chose to start my reviews with the new Bionic. The bionic continues the great success of the Ion Series of balls. The Bionic features the Torsion AI core which is an evolution of the Element Max™ Core featured in the ion max. This symmetric slightly lower diff core is teamed up with the NRG Hyrbrid cover. The combination creates a great gap filler when you need to transition away from the balls that had a more aggressive mid-lane read. I tested the Bionic on our house-shot after it had a session of senior bowling league. This is usually a great indication of mid-league transition on my normal leagues. My first impressions were that the ball was a little smoother than I had expected. I still didn't have issues with carry, and I didn't feel like I needed to manipulate the ball much to get it to go through the pins. The Bionic was very consistant. I had a pretty good amount of area to miss in or out and still carry. When I threw a comparison ball it gave me a little better idea of the lane conditions. My Phaze II picked up almost immediately and looked much flatter in the back-end which indicated that there was more wear on the lanes than I had initially thought. This made me appreciate how great this ball would look as a transition piece off of the stronger balls, particuarly the ones with earlier covers. I threw my Vengeance as well and it was even earlier and slower down-lane. The amount of transiton that I was seeing would normally be an indication of my need to go to cleaner balls with higher RG's like balls in the Road line or even down to something like a hustle. I moved further left to see how the bionic would handle covering more boards and I definitely hit a wall. There was too much early friction so when I pushed it right it couldn't recover and when I tried to keep the break-point in it would read the front of the lane too hard. I wouldn't take this as anything disparaging about the Bionic, it's not a ball designed to deal with excessive friction, if so it wouldn't be as usable on fresher conditions. The bionic is enough ball to be a first ball for people with higher revs or lower ball speed like myself. It stays in play really well in the transtion which is where most people who are a little more speed/rev matched will like it best.
