Review of Optimum Idol
I am higher speed, rev challenged 220-250ish, medium tilt and rotation, and higher track player. I drilled my Roto Grip Optimum Idol 35 x 4.75x 25 using the dual angle. My axis point is 4 7/16 over and 7/8 up.The Roto Grip Optimum Idol is a heavy rolling benchmark ball to my arsenal it revs up early but more controlled shape down-lane. I generally use this ball game 1 of league on medium to high oil volume . The Roto Grip Optimum Idol is a good piece to add to anyone’s arsenal.

Roto Grip Optimum Idol Ball Review
Bowler Stats: Speed: 15.5 MPH Rev Rate: 250 RPM Tilt: 6.6 degrees Axis Rotation: 80 degrees PAP: 4 5/8 over 1 5/8 up Layout: 5 X 5 X 2.5 VLS Video Ball Review: https://youtu.be/Qe148R-_WgA The original Idol was a super popular ball after its release. I didn’t throw the original Idol because I used a Phase II and they are very close in core numbers. With the release of the Optimum Idol the Ikon core has been upgraded with the A.I. technology to give bowlers a newer version of the Idol ball motion for today's lane conditions. This ball also features the same Micro Trax cover found on the Gem. By having a combined stronger core and cover combination, in a symmetrical ball, I drilled it with a slightly weaker layout to give the ball some length and have less flare because of the strong Micro Trax cover. This ball is very smooth through the oil on the house shot and a little too slow and forward when it reaches the end of the pattern for my eyes. For my rev rate category sometimes the combination of strong core and cover makes the balls too slow on the house conditions. I had the same issues when trying to use the Roto Grip TNT. If I used too much surface the ball was even slower and if I let it shine up it gave the ball an under over type of reaction. Because of the ball motion of the Optimum Idol, I am more comfortable using the Storm Summit when I need to use a stronger symmetrical piece in my league and tournament arsenal. And there is no doubt this combo of core and cover will increase the confidence and playability for bowlers of all skill levels on a variety of lane conditions. If the OG Idol had a child, the Optimum Idol is it. I had 4 OGs drilled various ways and none compare to the carry I get from the OI. I say the latest technology has elevated this to next level in my arsenal. It covers a broader range of conditions without any cover changes of which I prefer not to do. As of this review I have well of 35+ games from league to tournament play because of its VERSATILITY and PREDICTABILITY. I have been able to play the entire lane up to my capabilities on the fresh THS and broken down sport patterns in tournament environments. Drilled with my go to benchmark pin up 5 1/4 x 1 1/2 layout, this ball stays in my bag because of the confidence it gives me with pin carry with my now lower rev-rate. Light pin hits have increased as well. Compared to other balls in my bag, the is just a pinch earlier than my Sublime and I would attribute that to the quick rolling Ikon core. When my Optimum Idol starts picking up too early, I have had success balling down to either my Xponent (cleaner) or Xponent Pearl (cleaner with a quicker response). I recommend the for bowlers with above average ball speed and rev rate looking for a VERSATILE hooking ball for THS heavy to medium patterns. For a lower/medium rev late player wanting a stronger ball for league purposes I would apply some polish or 4k finish which will handle plenty of oil, but make a stronger move on the back end. Roto Grip Optimum Idol
Lane Condition 42ft House shot 44 Kegel Sport Shot The new symmetrical solid in the Roto Grip HP3 line is the Optimum Idol. I drilled mine with my favorite drilling 4.25 x 4 x 2 pin up and added Storm Step 2 to the cover. The Optimum is the re release of the original Idol. Which is one the most successful RG balls of all time. For me the Optimum is very close the original Idol, it may be a little earlier due to the newer coverstock. Same great ball reaction though, a little earlier motion and smooth arcing reaction down lane. It is great ball for all the wet dry house shots that we see so much in todays patterns. I also like using the Optimum on sport to control the pocket on those flatter sport patterns. As the optimum doesn't get off line a lot and is very controllable ball motion. 2 handers love the Optimum because of the control with all their speed and revs. But the down and in players also can use it with success especially when playing the track area. Thank You Schlem for bringing back the IDOL! Brian Watson Storm Pro Shop Staff PAP - 3 7/8 up 1 1/4 MPH - 16-17 RPM - 400 Tilt - 17

Optimum Idol
The new Optimum Idol continues the Idol line with the core wrapped in AI Core Tech and with the micro track solid cover. Compared to the Idol I've found the Opitmum idol to be earlier on the lane and more shape down lane. I used the same layout on both balls my pap is 4 3/4 right and 3/4 down. The layout i used was 45x4x30 This is a great bench mark ball for anyone to add to there bag.

Roto Grip Optimum Idol Ball Review!! Layout VLS-5.5x3.25x2 Dual Angle-40x5.5x30 The optimum idol will be a great addition to roto grip hp3 lineup. The optimum idol will fit in between my gem and tour dynam-x. The optimum idol will be my benchmark ball for a variety of oil patterns. The optimum idol will be used on fresh/transition if the gem is too early or if I need more continuation. The optimum idol reminds me of the original idol but it reads the midlane a little more and has more continuation. I personally have always loved the idol series and this ball will definitely go with me to every tournament. Click this link to watch the video: https://youtu.be/T6ItklyBerI?si=1NGAT8MyDPOaWLVz

HAND: LEFT (ONE HANDED) PAP: 4 3/8 OVER / 1/16 UP BALL SPEED: 16MPH REV RATE: 420 AXIS TILT: 20 AXIS ROTATION: 50 LAYOUT: 60X5X65 The Optimum Idol features the iconic Ikon core paired with A.I. Technology and Microtrax Solid as its cover stock. All I can say is wow, I’ve been looking for a symmetric ball with a bigger cover that handles the fresh with ease but not over responding to friction. This ball for me is a ball that sits in the middle of my bag between the Reality, Attention Star. When the Reality is too much ball, I'm able to go to my Idol and keep control of the mid lane but with a smoother more controllable motion. I prefer my Idol to have 1000 or 2000 on it depending on where and what were bowling on. Overall this ball is fantastic when the lanes are a little tighter during the beginning of the match, this ball will fit many styles of players, if you’re bowling on your typical house pattern players with higher rev rates will love this ball when moving into the oil, lower rev players may lean more towards a gem or a Harsh Reality but if you’re looking for a ball down from those 2 this one is it!

Roto Grip Optimum Idol Ball Review by PJ Haggerty
The newest addition to the HP3 line at Roto Grip is the Optimum Idol. You might remember the Idol series from the last several years. After the original Idol, there was the Pearl, Helios, Cosmos, and Pro. All were successful and designed to create different shares for us as players. The Optimum Idol features some nice upgrades with an updated core and coverstock. This symmetrical beast should be a staple in any competitive bowlers bag for the foreseeable future. I’ve drilled one so far and think it’s a home run. It’s mapped out as 5 x 4 x 3.5. The pin is below my bridge with a decent shift of the CG. I also shined with a 4000 pad and water since our house shot tends to hook a decent amount. The Optimum Idol is strong with an RG of 2.47 and differential of .054. It flares a bunch, so don’t be afraid to drill it a little weaker because it has no problem picking up or reading the lane. I think it is a nice step down from the Gem, Absolute Power, or Harsh Reality. It also fits above balls like The Road and Lightning Blackout. If you’re missing a strong symmetrical with a proven history of success, go drill an Optimum Idol!

Roto Grip Optimum Idol Ball Review Layout VLS 5x4x2.5 Dual Angle 50x5x37 The Idol is back!!!!!!!! If you loved the orginal Idol you’re going to love the Optimum Idol which features the orginal core from the Idol but it’s wrapped with AI technology with the same cover that’s on the Gem. Optimum Idol is going to be a great benchmark option for medium to heavy oil lane conditions. For me the Optimum Idol is a great step down from the Magic Gem but stronger than the Tour Dynam- x. The Optimum Idol will be the first ball out of my bag to get a read of the lane conditions. Optimum Idol Review
For those that remember the glory days of the original Idol, it made a comeback in a big way! With a slightly lower RG and higher differential compared to the original, the Optimum Idol is a ball every bowler should have in their bag. I drilled mine at an average layout of 4.5"x 30 pin up between the bridge, which is my common layout for leagues and medium/heavy conditions. I tested it on a fresh 42ft house shot at my home center and was very impressed. The Optimum reads the fronts clean, very smooth and continuable mid lane and finishes strong through the pins. I find this ball to be very versatile and has that "benchmark" feel that bowlers will benefit on a variety of patterns. This ball will definitely be in my bag wherever I bowl. If you don't have an Optimum Idol, you are missing out! Be sure to stop by your local pro shop and drill one today! Thomas Coco (storm staffer)

Optimum Idol
The Roto Grip Optimum Idol features the same Micro Trax reactive coverstock and Ikon core as the hugely successful original Ido. However, the Optimum features the new A.I. core technology, which in my opinion makes this ball even better than the original Idol. At 15 pounds the RG is a low 2.47 with a differential of .056. I drilled my Optimum Idol the same as my original, 5x4x2 which puts the pin above my middle finger. The Optimum Idol has the same motion as the original…it starts up very early, controls the midlane and has an even arcing backend motion. This ball is perfect for medium/medium heavy oil patterns. The A.I. core creates even more pin action than the original. If you had the original and have been looking for a replacement, you won’t find anything closer than this. If you never had the Idol, don’t miss out on this one, you won’t be disappointed. This ball should be in every tournament bowler’s bag. Power, control, and versatility all in one!!!

Idol is back!
Sam Cooper Roto Grip Amateur Staff. Layout 45x5.5x45. The new Roto Grip Optimum Idol is the return of the Ikon Core that was found in the original Idol. The twist is that the Ikon core is wrapped with the AI Technology to help the hitting power at the pins. The Optimum also has the original Micro-Trax Solid cover from the original. This proven benchmark combination is back with more power at the pins. In my opinion comparison to the OG Idol. The Optimum Idol feels slightly cleaner and smoother (yes I know that usually is not the case). The OG for me was strong mid-lane roll but felt “quick” it may have been the layout that I had on the OG compared to the Optimum. Regardless, this ball will give you a great reaction for fresh conditions or even cliffed house patterns. I will say that on the higher friction surfaces that I bowl on I have let the cover lane shine but then I do have to scuff it with a 2000 pad to get that strong smooth reaction back. It is a strong bowling ball. When lane shined it is usable across a variety of conditions. If you are bowling on a lighter volume pattern or something with lots of friction. You may want to use the Optimum to kind of set the lanes up and then ball down to a phase two or something cleaner. The versatility of this ball is for sure to make it a staple in your league bag or tournament bag!

Optimum Idol
The new Roto Grip Optimum Idol features the well-established Ikon core now wrapped in A.I. outer core material and the Microtrax Solid coverstock. I drilled my Idol 5x4x4.25 and it was honestly more ball than I was expecting. I did not care for the original idol because it was too clean and too forward; however, the Optimum Idol proved to be different. It is earlier and stronger off the backend of the pattern especially compared to something like that of an IQ Tour Edition. An IQ Tour to me is cleaner and more forward compared to the Optimum Idol. To put it in perspective, I would put the Optimum Idol between the Phaze 2 and Axiom Solid. I see the earlier shape like the Axiom, but I see a similar ball motion off the backend compared to the P2. Overall, I think the Optimum Idol is going to shine on a lot of different conditions and is easy to adjust with surface changes.

Roto Grip Optimum Idol Ball Review
The Optimum Idol has a low RG value of 2.47 which means it will rev up early and a high differential of 0.056, in which 0.060 is the max differential a ball can have. The Optimum Idol is the first Roto Grip release that has the AI Core Technology. AI Core Technology lowers the RG and raises the differential that creates a quicker roll and more surface contact with the lane. In addition, the Optimum Idol also features the famous Ikon core that we have seen in all Idol releases. As per the Microtrax Solid Reactive cover, you will see a combination of the optimum balance of midlane traction and responsiveness to friction thanks to the blend of nanoparticles throughout the coverstock. This formulation maintains its surface profile texture longer to ensure you get maximum performance while displacing oil at an above average rate compared to other coverstock materials on the market today. I did a ball comparison to the original Roto Grip Idol and 900 Global Xponent at 42 ft house shot, 25 ml of oil. The layout chosen 55 x 4 ¾ x 40. 3000 Grit used for review. In comparison to the Original Idol, The Optimum Idol is at least 3 boards stronger downlane and starts up a little quicker. As the Original Idol was good for was versatility within the ball surface where from the lowest to polish the Idol responds to what you need very well. In comparison to the 900 Global Xponent, the Optimum Idol is a couple of boards stronger the Xponent which has a lower RG that’s fits just above an IQ tour solid. As per the surface adjustments, the Optimum’s box surface is 2000 grit Abralon which is a good starter surface for a fresh oiled THS. For me, I put polish on top of the 2000 surface that gives me a little more length and a little sharper on the backend. In the bag, will be the Eternity Pi, Optimum Idol, Attention Star and Zen Gold Label Please pick up a Roto Grip Optimum Idol at a Striking Results Proshop near you and please like and subscribe to my page Beyond the Arrows Ball reviews. Optimum Idol as advertised
Roto Grip – Optimum Idol Layout 5 x 4 x 2.5 Style – stroker Ball Speed – 14–15 mph at pins Condition – house pattern - HPL surface Surface – box condition Pleasantly surprised by the motion I received from this ball. Worried my slower speed would slow the ball down too much and therefore not continue through the pins. Totally wrong on my end if there is some oil in the heads. I don’t believe that to be too surprising of a comment given lane surfaces and strength of bowling balls today. The ball was left in box condition for initial use. I’m waiting to see how many games it takes before lane shine is present. Early use hasn’t shown any noticeable shine. Little tough to get the surface clean after using it in box condition. Might need to use Clean and Dull or a spinner to assist in the future. Didn’t get past 15 at the arrows with use. With some polish that could be an option, but I’ll have to change balls in box condition once I start migrating further left. I’ll need something cleaner and responsive on the backend for my style. Strong benchmark option for those in the market for that reaction. Believe this will be a ball that many styles can utilize with success. The Storm Products YouTube page has a great video showing the difference between the box surface versus shine. Link below. I might try some polish in the future or just drill a second one for polish. https://youtu.be/ISLOn37f8LY?si=R3IJbM37rFLeyt9G

Optimum Idol
Another Idol…Another homerun! I almost always keep an Idol in my tournament bag. One of the first balls out of my bag when I need a strong, smooth, controlled piece. Best part is that I can generally stay in it for a few games before I have to get into my cleaner options. Really continues to go through the pins well while migrating deeper on the lane! Definitely recommend for the tournament bowler! Coverstock: MicroTrax Solid Reactive Core: Ikon + A.I. Roto Grip Optimum Idol
Layout: 40 x 4 ¼ x 35 Finally...the wrongs of the original Idol being discontinued have been righted! The original Idol solid was one of the best bowling balls that Roto Grip has ever released, and the introduction of the Optimum Idol brings the Idol line back to prominence. The addition of AI technology to the Ikon core creates a slightly stronger midlane motion – overall, I do find this Optimum Idol to be a tad bit earlier, smoother, and overall more motion than that original Idol. That means that the Optimum Idol is absolutely perfect for heavy to medium-heavier oil conditions. Once the lanes dry up, this ball will begin to hook too early...but, it isn't intended for those conditions anyways.

Optimum Idol Review by Kyle, Joel, & Dean Johnson
Roto Grip Optimum Idol Coverstock: 2000 Grit MicroTrax™ Solid Reactive Weight Block: Ikon™ + A.I. Core (Symmetrical) Color: Heliotrope Purple Review: This ball is the one everyone has been waiting for. The remake of the original Idol is finally here, in a slightly more purplish look. Out of box this ball is very early and very smooth, that first out of bag ball for most conditions. Our style: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). Everyone loves a strong benchmark piece, and that’s exactly what the Optimum Idol brings. This ball looks best playing the middle to right part of the lane for us. Because it is a ball that reads so early you won’t be able to shape the entire lane if you like to play way left. Comparing the Optimum Idol to the Phaze 2 you can expect the Idol to be a little earlier, a little stronger, and smoother shape. There is enough difference between these two similar pieces that they could compliment each other very well in a long block. Starting with the Idol and balling down should give lots of hold room for the Phaze 2 which will read slightly farther down lane in game 2 and on. Overall this ball is a huge home run and we look forward to seeing a lot of these roll down the lanes. Optimum Idol Review
Ball Specs: Roto Grip Optimum Idol Micro Trax Solid Reactive Symmetric Ikon A.I. Core Finish: 2000 grit Abralon Layout: 4 x 4 with 1.5 Pin Buffer Bowler Specs: Right Hand. PAP 5” Over 1/2 up Rev Rate 300. Tilt 20. Rotation 50. Speed at release 17 Review: I am loving this ball! I have always liked the Idol line but this ball is better than expected. The Optimum Idol hooks a lot, reads the mids and back end like a champ and carries as good as anything I have. I am more than pleased with this one. I get everything I need as long as the lanes are not on the dry side. I have also noticed that I carry off hits and flush hits better than normal with this ball. I think the A.I. (Applied Inertia) core somehow matches up perfectly with this ball. I have already had some big scores and sets with this one and have a great amount of trust with this ball. I would put total hook between the original Gem and Tour Dynamix. So far, I have only rolled this ball at box surface but I believe it would polish nicely if you hit a dryer condition. I feel this will be a very versatile and popular ball. Summary: The Optimum Idol is a great mid to heavy oil ball. The Ball reads the lane perfectly. The roll and carry are exactly what I like in a ball. Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMmdntZlr2g&error=0 Glenn Wendel Storm Pro Shop Staff gwendel@comcast.net www.stormbowling.com

Like I state I have never owned any of the balls in the Idol line and boy am I mad at myself for not giving the Idol line a try. This ball is such a complete ball and should fit the eye for most people. It's long but not too long, it's angular but not too angular, and the Optimum Idol is as smooth as can be. This Idol reads the lanes beautifully and will give you every ready that you need to adjust or to ball down. The Optimum Idol hits so ridiculously hard that I cannot even make a comparison. Most of the time you can say a ball hits like a truck or packs a punch, but this Optimum Idol hits the pocket it gives off a different sound and it’s so loud. The Optimum is going to be a benchmark ball for most or for some it will be a ball you start out with on house shot or games 2-5 in a longer game tournament. Like I stated the Optimum is so smooth and very predictable to be able to adjust or ball changes. This is going to be a cheater ball for many bowlers. Go get yours today if you want to score high. LOVED IT. I think the Optimum might be better. My OG Idol was amazing, but sometimes it just didn’t keep going enough. In comes the Optimum. The AI core tech they added did the trick. AI retains more energy and overall hook. Where the OG Idol might get too forward and struggle to get around the corner the Optimum stays on it’s axis longer and continues more through the 8-9! As a result I can use the Optimum much longer than I ever could with the OG! The Optimum Idol is already GOATED and is a must have!

Roto Grip Optimum Idol
Roto Grip’s Optimum Idol is a remake of the every so loved and missed Idol. It features MicroTrax Solid cover and the famous Ikon core with AI tech. I drilled mine 5 x 5 x 3 and this is exactly how I drilled my first Idol back in the day and I was super excited for this one. When I first started to throw it, it reminded me of the original one. It gave me a clean motion through the fronts for a solid but made a nice aggressive motion in the back part of the lane. This ball will be very versatile for me as I will be able to use it on the fresh and as the second or third ball out of my bag depending on the pattern length and volume. If you loved the Idol then your going to want to run to pick up the Optimum Idol today!

Thanks to its Microtrax solid reactive coverstock, this ball maintains ample traction in the oil, while the Ikon A.I. Core ensures smooth and controllable movement off the friction. It responds well to lane shine, making transitions during longer blocks more intuitive. The Optimum Idol is the perfect combination of the lkon + A.I. Core and the MicroTrax Solid reactive coverstock, making it a must-have for your arsenal. So, let’s take a closer look at what makes Optimum Idol the next “old-reliable” to add to your bag! The Ikon core in itself has been a strong and consistent staple in the Roto Grip Idol line. And what I like most about the Ikon core is its consistency throughout the lane. You can count on the Ikon core to rev up methodically as it heads through the mid-lane without being overly aggressive. And because the Ikon Core has a continuously smooth nature, you can count on it to be predictable off the pattern of every shot. And now, combined with the A.I. Core technology surrounding the Ikon Core, there is a noticeable difference in striking power! The Amplified Insight Core technology or A.I. Core surrounding the Ikon Core seriously brings a new dimension of hard-hitting impact power to the Optimum Idol. I found your typical ring ten pins to get kicked out; I saw high hits crush that high four-pin leave, and as a straighter player, I loved watching those light, low rev, and OH-NO hits make the pins dance around the pin deck. So, if you’re thinking the Optimum Idol is just another Idol, think again! The Ikon + A.I. Core technology gives the Optimum Idol a whole new world of striking possibilities. The MicroTrax Solid is the perfect choice for making the Optimum Idol a “go-to” in your arsenal. Being a straighter player, I like how the MicroTrax solid isn’t overly porous, which would cause it to roll at your toes. I took my Optimum Idol to 4000-grit Abralon and loved the smooth and dependable traction the MicroTrax solid provided. I found the MicroTrax to be crisp yet consistent early on fresh and equally so on the burn. So, as a straighter player, I would say that the MicroTrax Solid performs very well in many conditions with the correct surface for your game. What I enjoyed most with the MicroTrax solid was how it blends the wet/dry and spotty conditions we straighter players tend to struggle with. So, suppose you find yourself frustrated by game three. In that case, you can count on the MicroTrax solid coverstock on the Optimum Idol to deliver the results you need to win the night’s total wood! In conclusion, the Optimum Idol is an excellent new release by Roto Grip! Straighter and low-rev players will love the strength and power of the Ikon + A.I. Core technology and the MicroTrax Solid to deliver that benchmark roll you can count on all night long! So, stop into your local Storm V I.P. Roto Grip Optimum Idol
The original Idol is one of those balls I passed on but wish I hadn’t, so when I heard this was coming out, I jumped on it! All I can say is WOW, so glad I got this piece. I place the Optimum in between my Eternity Pi and OG Eternity for when I still need a solid to chew through the oil, but not go too far down lane before making the turn. With my 5x4x2 layout this ball reads the mids like no other and the scores it has been putting up show it. What really surprised me was that I get the same reaction out of this ball on multiple lane panels. So far I have thrown it on Pro-Lane, SPL and HPL panels and I get the same consistent ball motion on all three without it over reacting or being lazy on any of them. The A.I. core’s presence truly shows its value on the “not so good”, aka: light hits, where my Zen Master would have left a flat 10, the Optimum really stirs the pins up and carries those shots. I intentionally waited a few weeks after rolling this in a couple different leagues and houses before putting this review out there to see how the ball may have changed with some lane shine on it. I found that after about 20 games I did need to freshen up the surface with a light 2k pad, but after bringing it back down the ball wakes back up just like new. I would say this ball matches up against my Zen Master with a little later reaction downlane (mainly due to a much more aggressive layout on my Master) and a higher carry percentage than the Master. I would most definitely recommend this ball for any league or tournament bowler.
