We really like this ball for fresh tournament and house patterns. We often find ourselves beginning with this piece in game 1 and transitioning to something a little smoother down lane in the later part of game 2 and game 3. This ball may not be as versatile as some of the other SPI asym bowling balls but it must not be overlooked for its power on the fresh. It really is a true Gem. The intent with this release was to compliment the reactions of the original Gem and Exotic Gem by slotting between those two balls – a little cleaner through the fronts than the Gem but with more midlane read than the Exotic Gem. After my first few shots, it was clearly evident that the Magic Gem is a very aggressive ball that is more continuous downlane than the Gem, and thanks to the 2000-grit Abralon hybrid cover it picks up and reads the body of the oil pattern better than the Exotic. I threw the Magic Gem after the Saturday morning junior league, and even though there was a fair amount of carry down from the kiddos, I was still forced to move further left than expected to find enough oil to get the ball down the lane. To my eye, the Magic Gem creates a strong and powerful reaction that’s more reminiscent of the Gem, but the Magic manages to be a bit cleaner and creates more downlane motion that better drives through the pins. The Exotic Gem or Clone would be a good option to ball down to when the Magic Gem becomes too strong. I expect the Magic Gem to be a great ball for blending out the over/under reaction you typically see on league house patterns. It’s super strong out of the box, but I suspect it will become more versatile as it lane-shines after a few games or by adjusting the surface with a 3000- or 4000-grit Abralon pad so that it doesn’t dig so hard into the oil. I see the Magic Gem as being my go-to for heavier volume patterns when I need a bit more shape than what the OG Gem is capable of. The Roto Grip Magic Gem is the newest HP4 ball to hit the SPI line. The Magic Gem features the MicroTrax hybrid cover that’s wrapped in the same Defiant LRG core that was featured in the GEM and Exotic before. The Magic Gem for me is the perfect step down from the original when I need slightly less traction and more overall shape. The Magic Gem is more continuous down lane than the Original Gem due to the fact it is a hybrid so it stores more energy and does not go forward to soon. I do feel the Magic Gem will perform better on a house shot with a smoother, polished surface than box. This ball will need some oil especially up front to roll at its best. I feel that weaker layouts would work best unless a bowler really needs help creating motion because the Magic Gem has a very powerful hook potential out of the box. I have not rolled this ball a lot but I am able to carry lighter off hits with it and solid hits destroy the rack. So far I have only tested the ball at box finish. This ball will be great for the flatter tournament shots or for higher speed or lower rev bowlers. Roto Grip has done an excellent job of placing this ball right between the Original Gem and the Exotic Gem. I am looking forward to getting this ball on some wetter lane conditions to see what it can do. The Magic at box is too strong for the house shots in my area. Magic Gem: The Magic Gem is the strongest ball I currently have in my bag. We see plenty of overall motion with this ball as it reads the kids very strong and continues very well. This ball is designed for those heavier oil conditions or when they're absolutely walled and you need the ball to get ramped up early to fight those tighter conditions. I see myself using this ball more on sport conditions versus house as I typically need a cleaner reaction on house to blend out the pattern more which provides additional miss room. For those who liked the X3 from Roto Grip you will enjoy the Magic Gem. TNT Infused: The TNT Infused is an excellent benchmark symmetrical ball to throw when the fronts begin to hook early yet provides tons of mid lane read. The Infused will be more usable for most players against the original TNT as it provides much more back end reaction and doesn't see the fronts as early as the original. I have found success using the TNT as a step down off my stronger balls like the Magic Gem, Eternity PI and Xponent. I am a big fan of this ball as it provides plenty of usability when I need to open my angles up on those medium to higher volume patterns. The Infused will be good on varying patterns from house to sport.

The Gem line has been at the top of the strength charts since they hit the market and the Magic Gem certainly continues that trend. The Defiant LRG core is this time wrapped in a sanded Hybrid version of micro-trax. While the 2k finish gives it some mid-lane teeth the 2part pearl 1 part solid make-up makes this ball continuous. This has been the most usuable of the Gem releases for me personally. Where I felt the first two were pretty conditional for me because of my ball speed, the Magic Gem is very continous. It doesn't lock up and get forward the way the other two did for me so I don't have to have the giant puddle to push it down-lane or the mega hook backends to get it to tip up. I tested the Magic Gem first time out on our house pattern. While the length and Volume of our pattern can make the lanes very tight, the high friction surface in the front of the lane can make the strongest balls tough to use. Magic Gem's reaction seems to give you the best of both worlds, it sees the mid-lane without over-seeing the fronts and it continues through the back-end. I was very impressed with this ball on the fresh as it was great at blending out the lane. It reacted well through the transition and until the lane really burnt up the last game it gave me a predictable motion as I went left. The versatility of the Magic Gem makes it useful for more people. It's strong enough for the rev-challenged and speed dominant players but continuous enough for the people who struggle stay in a ball once the lanes start to transition. I would recommend this ball for pretty much any style of player as a first ball out of the bag. Layout: 5 x 3 x 3 Surface: 2000 Abralon The Magic Gem brings back the Defiant LRG Core with the Microtrax Hybrid Coverstock. My initial though with this ball was that it was going to be a slightly more angular Original Gem that could handle oil. When I threw the ball for the first time, it was significantly stronger than I expected. Compared to the original Gem, it was a little more cleaner through the front but had much more continuation. It kept the pins low through the deck which increased my pin carry. I got to test this on a 44ft Typical House Shot and a 42ft 32ml sport pattern. On the House pattern, it was evident that it was very strong. With my higher ball speed and rev rate, it was almost tough to keep the ball in the pocket enough on the fresh as it just was strong in the midlane and continued hard down the lane. It definitely forced me a little deeper on the lane than I wanted to play on the fresh. I typicall slide around 25 with my feet and throw the ball to between 5 and 10 at the breakpoint on the fresh. The Magic Gem made me slide closer to 32 with my feet to see the right shape down lane. To my surprise, it continued so well that I still had no problems striking from that angle. Compared to the original Gem, I was actually straighter with the original due to how much more forward the roll is. I had to give the pocket away with the Magic Gem to have success. As the lanes started to carry down, my ball reaction got better as I could keep my angles a little straighter. I would recommend this ball for the fresh if you have a lot of oil volume or are more speed dominant. If you are a big fan of the original gem and want a more continuous shape, you can get the Magic Gem. The Magic Gem will not give as much angle as the Exotic Gem for comparison's sake. On the 42ft Sport pattern, the higher oil volume put the Magic Gem in its comfort zone. I was able to play the fresh without a problem and still allowed me to play closer to the friction because of the amount of oil. As the pattern broke down, I was able to move more left with my feet and target and again have no issues with continuation. The ball did however, start to go a little bit more forward as I got closer to sliding around 30-35 with my feet and carry suffered to an extent. The Exotic Gem had a much better angle through the pins from this part of the lane. As a higher rev rate bowler, I prefer the Magic Gem for tournaments or where there is heavy oil just due to its overall strength. Those who have slow ball speed or low amounts of oil will struggle with this ball to keep on line. Adam Chase Storm Staff

Diff.: 0.053 Finish: 2000-Grit Abralon Roto Grip’s new Magic Gem is a Hybrid (2/3 Pearl, 1/3 Solid) Asymmetrical piece that is good for Medium-Heavy Volume Patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. Drilled this piece with the Pin above the bridge, CG kicked out 1” from the palm, and the Mass Bias 1/2” to the Right of the Thumb. I threw this piece on a fresh 48’ Shark pattern. Out of Box ball motion started in the mids with smooth Continuous Motion on the backend. Once the pattern broke down, I moved 5-5 Left. It read in the mids with continuous backend. I compared this piece to the Roto Grip Clone and Tour Dynam-X. Clone was 1-1 right and the Tour Dynam-X was 2-2 Right of the Magic Gem. The Magic Gem builds on the predictability and strength of the original Gem. Micro Trax Hybrid features nanoparticles in the cover that create more traction than standard reactive covers. This really makes the Magic Gem stand out because it picks up in the oil just like the original Gem, but the pearl additive in the hybrid coverstock helps the Magic Gem continue through the pins better. The Magic Gem is better at going left to right and creating more angle than the Gem. This ball is the strong control ball that everyone should have in their bag, especially if you have trouble getting the 10 pin out with other big asym balls.

The newest addition to the Gem family is going to be a great addition. One of the biggest issues that I saw with the Gem was that it was so early and strong that you would lose carry from time to time. The all new Magic Gem has solved this issue in a major way! The Magic Gem is still early and strong, but its biggest attribute is that it is a touch more angular. The angle that this ball creates compared to the OG Gem can be the difference between striking and leaving a flat 10 or weak a 7 pin. The Magic Gem features the same Defiant LRG Core, however, its has the MicroTrax hybrid coverstock compared to the Solid coverstock in the original Gem. I am very pleased with what I have seen from this ball so far and I am sure this ball will get a ton of use from a variety of bowlers, do not hesitate, go out and get yours today.

The Magic Gem is the newest release in the Gem line. After throwing the Magic Gem, it was much stronger than I expected. It came at 2000-geit but being a hybrid, I was hoping it would not be as strong as the Gem. I was wrong here because it felt like a cleaner Gem with more down lane shape. I think it will be more usable on a house shot than the original Gem, but it is still going to be way too strong for what I can use. As I said before, the Magic Gem is similar strength to the original Gem but is cleaner through the fronts with more shape down lane. Compared to the Exotic, the Magic Gem is closer to the shape but overall stronger. The Magic Gem would be a ball up from the Exotic and one would ball down to the Exotic when the Magic Gem is becoming too strong. If the Gem was too early for your game this ball would be a better fit. The cover takes to surface changes well and will be a great option for the fresh conditions. The Magic Gem is going to be great for the higher ball speed crowd or the lower rev rate that needs that extra help from a ball. The very strong nature of the Defiant core allows this ball to start up very quickly in the mid lane and the hybrid cover allows it to get done the lane a little further than the original Gem. I found this ball perfectly bridges the gap between the OG and Exotic. I really liked this ball out of the box but when polish is added, you can see just how versatile this piece really is. It does need quite a bit of oil to be at it's most effective, but when there is you can see it digging when it needs to. Go get yours October 20th and don't forget to bowl up a Storm!!

Roto Grip’s HP4 line has been one of the strongest lines in bowling mostly due to the facts of the Gems. Well the Magic Gem doesn’t disappoint. The Defiant LRG core is wrapped around the 2 parts pearl, 1 part solid Microtrax Hybrid cover. I drilled mine 5.5 x 5 x 5 and WOW, what a first impression. I bowled on a 43 foot 4:1 pattern and the Magic Gem out performed my DNA and Eternity Pi and it was because they were burning up either. The Defiant LRG core is just the strongest core in bowling and paired with this cover I was able to move in and open up the entire lane with this ball. Anyone who though the Gem was a little too strong for them or maybe the Exotic Gem went too long than I would deeply look into the Magic Gem.
