Visionary Blue Gryphon Bowling Ball

(15 reviews) Write a Review
The Blue Sparkle Gryphon utilizes the new Gryphon core design and a strong reactive/sparkle coverstock to get through the heads cleanly, and have strong backends. This ball combines the length of the Crimson Executioner, the back end snap of the Green Gargoyle and the forgiveness of the Blue Warlock. Designed for all medium conditions, this ball is a great benchmark type ball, and is an absolute must for league bowlers.

this ball was another ebay buy! I've wanted one, since i seen a you-tube video of this ball in action. You just can't go wrong with the gryphon's! This ball came with a 1 1/2 inch pin, at a 10:30 drilling, pin under the ring finger. You would think that it would roll early, with little turn at the pocket, not so. This ball gets easy lenght, and a little flip in the back! "WOW" is all I said. And if that dont impress ya, the Blue sparkle looks great going down the lane, makes it easy to read! And like all the gryphon's This ball hit's hard! I mean HARD! No pin is safe, when it makes it's turn, and buries itself in the pocket! This is a great product from visionary,...Now if they read my plea,.....Reissue the Gryphons!

ok not your typical review but here goes.. My younger brother purchesed this ball for my mother, she is a old fashioned "full roller", but at 58 still carries a 191 average! Normaly im not one for lesser known brands but I was impressed with the preformance of this ball, it carried very well with few corner pins left right out of the box. It did seem to be a little touchy with speed to much didnt finish enough .. too little and would slam through the beak. overall tho I was amazed on how hard this ball hit, and carried for someone with slow ball speed.

Ball was layed out with a pretty simple drill 1:00 stack with the box finish. House shot is your normal Gravy Train Jewelry Factory. Normally play any where from 10-15 out to about 5-10. I like the way the ball rolls gives a good smooth arc. It is a ball I like to go to when the lanes are a little tight and I need something to read a little sooner in the mid-lane but not over react. It compliments my Green Gargoyle and Violet Gargoyle very well. Looking forward to seeing how it works on Tournament conditions. Robert Browder Visionary Test Staff

Drill: 5 1/2 x 5 I had thrown two particle gryphons and two g-3 gryphons prior to drilling this thing, so I was expecting to need every last board on the lane. This was not the case, thank goodness. The Blue Sparkle is a great ball for medium-light to light oil. It makes a nice little move on the backs, but is seldom too much ball to throw on a house shot. It will not hook until it finds some dry and could very easily wiggle through the breakpoint if you don't watch it, though. If you are setting up a three ball arsenal for a house shot, this should probably be the medium-light ball in your bag.

This ball is awsome for when the gray gargoyle is hooking to much because this ball goes so long u do not have to worry about the dry because it slides threw the oil into the dry and it acts like there is no dry spots at all so if u want a ball that goes long and hits very hard this is the ball for u. U can also swing or play strait up with this ball it is a really good ball for sport paddern. If u get this ball u should get the particle gryphon so when that thing is hooking to much just pull out that blue sparkle gryhon and u will have no trouble with any kind of oil.So go get this ball if u want a ball that u will not have to worry about it hooking of the lane in dry areas.

bought the ball used from a friend. i throw just about any shot possiable. down and in. out and in. cross lane. just about them all. i guess i dont get enough revs on the ball to do anything for me. price was right. preformance wasnt there. i throw a slow ball with as much revs my weak (previous injuries) wrist can put on it. just was not sastisfied. glad i didnt have to pay full price for it. ill take my Ti Messenger Pearl any day over it. hopefully i will have it sold soon. another person threw a 300 with it and wants to buy.<s

As I have stated before, The ball works great when the middles are flooded, but must have a dry board to react. I have thrown this ball on many conditions and I will say it is a ball that I will take to nationals with me, along with the Green Gargoyle. But If I hit I a condition that is super dry or super slick, then this ball will stay in the bag all day. Overall I would rate this ball a 7 and 1/2 due to great length and arc that this ball can give you, but will limit what you can due on a dry condition

I drilled this ball the same as my Granite Gargoyle to see the differance between both balls. The Layout is a 4 by 4 with a weight hole. With the lack of backends in most centers in San Antonio, It very hard to get a good read with this ball. Most centers have hang right of the 5th board and backends varying from week to week. I am going out of town for a couple of Tourneys and hopefully some regionals to test this layout and surface and I may go back to the factory surface to see if I am throwing it bad or if it is layout. Updated 12 - 26 - 2003. Polished the ball to 2000 with 2000 grit. Very controllable at this surface for my tilt and game.

My Blue Gryphon is 16 lbs, pin out of 3-4", and is drilled 4x5 according to my axis coordinate. This basically lays out like a label drill pattern. The Gryphon worked well for me on a second shift pattern when I needed to get the ball through the heads and make a hard turn through some carrydown. I sanded the polish off to compliment the Crimson Executioner, and it does just that nicely. It can handle flatter mediums if you play straighter, the bigger backend will recover to the pocket. You can also swing it on lighter patterns without fear, because when it turns the corner it definitely come back home. The only negative about this ball is it's a bit stronger and not as forgiving as stated. If you tug the ball expect the worse unless you throw it pretty slow to get the ball to cross. The hit and carry is great just like every other Visionary ball.

The Gryphon handles a wide range of medium conditions. With its versatility, it stays in play longer than most balls as the lanes transition. The Gryphon handles both synthetic and wood lanes equally well. It has forgiveness of pulling it into the heavier oil or sending it out to the dry. The Gryphon is an excellent carrying ball, saving plenty of energy with its lower flare. It creates better than average backend to open up the lane. Visionary's description of the ball is accurate. I like the forgiveness and versatility of the Gryphon. Getting to the pocket is easy and often rewards with a strike.

what a great control ball for lighter oil or clean backends.good carry but i could not tell that it carryed so much better than other balls. i found it fairly easy to push it past its break point but at the right speep its great. i did leave 3 solid eight pins to nite so i know it drives through the pins fairly hard. ill keep this for lighter oil and sell my threat. if you encounter 2 shift or flying backends this ball is for you . and when it makes its turn look out because it will make a right now move for the pocket. i put this ball in luster king for really flying back ends and this ball hit harder than box finnish. this cover is very tunabale.

When conditions suit this ball, it's terrific. The ball hits the pocket with authority . . . Explosive! But the conditions must be right. The Ultra-Hot is sensitive to condition changes. Be very aware of whats happening on the lanes. If you bowl in anything more than medium oil, consider it a great "Spare" ball. I can highly reccomend this ball to the "One Ball Bowler" Lots of bang for the buck. This ball will stay in my bag as my permanent 2nd ball. Having said that, I'm still looking for a ball that will give me a better angle to the pocket.

I reeived my gryphon through my test stff membership. Specs are 16lbs 3.6 top weight and a 3-4 pin. Right handed Had this drilled with the pin over my bridge and cg under my ring finger. I use this ball on a typical house shot 38 feet of oil heavier in the middle with drie outsides and fresh backends. I must say this is an excellent ball for this condition. Ball gets down the lane and has a noticeable yet controoled move at the breakpoint. The carry on this ball is unbelievable. Lots of messengers and barely any corner pins. I can use this ball throughout the whole night even when the oil begins to carrydown. I just move my feet right and play a little more direct. I had people asking me what is that ball and commenting on the hitting power. This is a solid 10 in my book.

Besides the physical appearance of the ball, this thing hits like a truck!!!!!! I have plenty of room to move if the lanes break down a little and it is not too over reactive. I only have an 1/8th oz. of side and finger weight in this. The pin is above my fingers and I kicked the cg to the right just a pinch to get a little side. First night I used it, threw a 296 (yes I choked!) Otherwise, this ball is another gem from Visionary! May post another review after I lay another one out in a different way.

We drilled one of these the other day and man does it roll great. The only problem is it looks cheap. It dosen't have that high dollar feel to it. I recieved no paper work so I guessed it had the same or similar core as the exacutioners, there most sucessful ball to date. Its a nice blue color with tons of sparkles not real shiney out of the box but can be shined easily. The logo is corney and in white again. It drills well and does not have a hint of fregrance. We drilled it to hook it went plenty long and made a strong move to the hole just as we expected. I don't know the retail price so I can't comment there but if it is in the $200+ I'd be very surprised. All in all this is a winner for visionary but not there best effort in marketing.
