Storm Proton Physix Bowling Ball

t's really no surprise why the PhysiX and AstroPhysiX have been wildly popular ever since their respective debuts. After all, the PhysiX offers one of the shapeliest reactions available, and the AstroPhysiX follows it up with stellar performance when the pattern opens up, and more length and backend are required. But until now, there really hasn’t been a PhysiX truly suited for heavy oil. Well, consider the problem solved! The Proton PhysiX is here to give you traction and hook on virtually any heavy oil condition imaginable. STRONG JUST GOT STRONGER. NRG™ has become a staple in Storm’s lineup of coverstocks for nearly a decade. It’s due time for an upgrade! NeX (Nano Extreme) is Storm’s earliest reading cover to date. NeX Solid was remarkably earlier hooking than NRG on any pattern, or any surface we tested it on. Our standardized durability and longevity tests showed NeX created 11% more entry angle and 9.6% more overall hook after 50 shots compared to a fresh NRG cover. Simply put, NeX gives more midlane read than ever WITHOUT sacrificing any backend! Wow.

This is undoubtedly the strongest ball I have had in my bag in quite some time. I am just going to come out and say the ONLY thing I don't like about this ball is that it is pink. But that is obviously a very personal opinion of something that doesn't affect the balls performance on the lanes. Seeing as the original Physix is one of my all-time favorite balls I was very excited when Storm announced they would be wrapping the Atomic Core with the NeX solid cover. Even though the Proton is an asymmetrical bowling ball the NeX cover stock has allowed me to have "control" over this ball. I never feel as if it jumps off of the spot too quick like an asymmetric pearl would. The only ball I could compare its strength to is the Sure Lock, it just digs into the oil unlike anything I have seen since the Sure Lock was released.

I drilled my PROTON PHYSIX up 65 x 4.5 x 30. I have thrown it at box finish which is 2000. The intent was to have a big hitter in my bag for long patterns and also ones with more volume that blended down lane. I found out some unique things throwing this and it has more utility than I ever imagined. I threw this on a 47 ft. sport pattern called Statue of Liberty. The PROTON is at home on this kind of pattern. Good motion and enough cover out of the box to grab the lane and strike pretty frequently. I put it side by side with the RST-X1 and IDOL SYNERGY. The X-1 was about 4 and 2 back to the right and also slightly softer speed. The IDOL SYNERGY was another 4 and 2 right of the X-1 and much slower down the lane compared to both balls. I also got to throw this in a 50 and over tournament club that used a house pattern. This was one of the most over walled house patterns I have played on in awhile. While my RST-X1 was the look to start, by game 3 that was starting to go away and forcing me left. Now I was in wet/dry zone. On a hunch, I balled up to the PROTON PHYSIX and had enough grab to get on the wetter part of the cliff but enough control that slight misses right just rolled up and stopped. That is refreshing because now another potential use for the ball and to get in the puddle on wet/dry and control the edge of the cliff.

PROTON PHYSIX The Proton Physix features the NEX solid cover that was also on the Axiom but with the Atomic core from the Physix line (RG=2.48, Diff=.054 int diff=.017). Both the Physix and Astro Physix rolled really well for me and early talk from other staffers was that the Proton reminded them of the Sure Lock which I threw a ton, so needless to say I couldn't wait for my Proton Physix. I drilled my Proton 4x4x2 because I wanted a strong layout that I can use when the lanes are tight or for higher volume patterns. For me the Proton fits perfectly between my Gravity Evolve and the Omega Crux. The Proton is earlier than the Omega but hooks more down lane than the Evolve. What I really love about the Proton Physix is the versatility that the NEX cover offers in this big balls. I have tried the Proton at a few different grit surfaces and I have yet to find a shape that doesn't look good. If you are looking for a ball for heavy oil I don't think you will find a better fit than the Proton Physix!

PAP 3 ¾ over 1" up ball speed 17 rev rate 475 Drilling-50x4 3/4x70 After days of contemplating what I want to with this Hook Monster I decided to go with smoother pin down drilling and allow this Big Asymmetrical Solid do its thing. Off the press this ball really wants to dig in the oil and create a lot of mid-lane roll, don't be afraid to move left and give this one some room. I see the Proton about 6 boards more overall than my UFO or Omega Crux with the same drilling. I also see some good versatility as well, while shooting my ball reaction video I found I was able to play multiple angles on the Fresh Oil House shot.

PAP 4 ½ over and 1 up ball speed 15 rev rate 275 Drilling-45x4 1/2x60 Strong Strong Strong, I love this piece. Right away I saw more overall hook than anything in my arsenal. I was able to move 4 to 6 boards further left than my Halo or UFO and had no trouble with the oil, The Proton Loves it!!! Usually I have to play a little closer to the track area on the fresh to see the break point and The Proton Physix lets me get in with the boys without losing any pin carry!!!

The Proton Physix is the newest addition to Storm's Premier line of bowling balls. The Proton Physix features the Atomic Core and NeX Solid Reactive Cover Stock. This combination is a beast in the midlane with a ton overall motion. If you are looking for a huge backend ball the Proton Physix might not be the bowling ball for you. However, if you are looking for a bowling ball that will navigate heavier patterns with ease while keeping your angles comfortable than the Proton Physix is the bowling ball for you. The straighter players should love this bowling ball several reasons. Number 1, the Proton Physix HOOKS in the midlane. Number 2, readable and controllable aggression. The last reason, it smells like Frosted Cupcake. I laid my Proton Physix out with a 4 X 5 X 1 or dual angle 65 X 4 X25 and that is based off my PAP which is 5 5/8 over and ¾ up. I am a straighter player with lower revs approx. 300 and medium ball speed. The stronger pin placement is something I wanted to do with a strong asymmetrical bowling ball. I was extremely comfortable with the Proton Physix from start to finish and really did not have to worry about over under or carry down. The moves were not big and the mistakes were just terrible shots. I could see where a player who like to go around it would see bigger moves and maybe even changing balls. The Proton Physix is a Sure Lock but bigger overall motion with a smooth readable backend motion. The Proton Physix will be in my bowling bag because it HOOKS in the right spot.

Ball Specs: Storm Proton Physix Coverstock NEX Solid Reactive Atomic Core (Asymmetrical) Color Magenta/Black/Violet Finish 2000-grit Scent Frosted Cupcake Layout 4.5 x 4 w/2.5" Buffer Bowler Specs: Right Hand. PAP 5" Over 1/2 up Rev Rate 300. Tilt 20. Rotation 50. Speed at release 17 Review: This is the big ball Storm Fans have been waiting for. The look of the ball is great and it rolls even better. The Proton is the biggest hooking ball in my bag edging out my UFO. The proton reads early but has a nice move on the back end. This ball has already been a big seller in our shops. I have a lower rev rate but the Proton Physix is normally too much ball on our house shot even for me. They double oil the first pair in one of the houses I bowl and the Proton was awesome on that tough condition. I even had the front 9 with it then left a stone 9 pin that broke my heart then struck for 279. This ball is also surprisingly forgiving for its strength. I have drilled the Proton Physix for our lower rev rate High School bowlers and they are getting more motion than they ever have. Hook always seems to make folks happy! You just need to know when to put it away. I have tested this ball on a few conditions and if there is enough oil you will not be disappointed. The Proton drives through the rack nice and strong. I feel the Proton is an upgrade on the original Physix because of the back end motion we have seen with this new release. The original seemed much more forward than this one. If you are looking for a heavy oil ball, or bowl on thick sport conditions the Proton Physix is a great choice. Summary: The Proton Physix is very strong throughout the whole lane. The Proton can really open up a lane. The colors and scent are great. The Proton is a great choice for heavier oil patterns. The Proton PhysiX is an all new asymmetrical ball by Storm. It features the Atomic core which was featured in the PhysiX and the AstroPhysiX. it also features the NeX cover which was introduced on the Axiom. I absolutely love how this ball rolls. the combination of the NeX Cover and the Atomic Core is absolutely amazing. I think it will be best on heavier oil lane conditions and longer patterns as well. For me it is a tad more then met UFO in the mids, and more downline than a Crux Prime. Be sure to get yours today!

Ball Layout: 50 x 5.5 x 50 Finish: OOB For anyone that has enjoyed the Physix series will welcome this newest addition to that series. The AstroPhysix is one my favorite balls but always felt the cover on the Physix didn't quite match up with my game. BUT, that's not what I'm seeing out of the Proton Physix, for a big ball, this piece is versatile! I drilled my ball with a long pin placing the pin over the middle finger. This allowed me to move left and this would still recover on the fresh.

Introducing the brand new Proton PhysiX! This is Storm's new big asymmetrical ball! This ball features the NeX Solid Reactive coverstock wrapped around the Atomic core! The NeX Solid Reactive was featured in the Axiom and, the atomic core was featured in the original PhysiX! This ball just flat out hooks and, is known as a "Hook Monster"! For me this is a great ball for heavier lane conditions or, for when the transition hits and, the backends don't have as much friction. Compared to my Axiom this ball is more aggressive overall where as my Axiom is cleaner through the fronts and aggressive down lane. Do yourself a favor and go get one! Everyone needs a ball like this in their bag!

BUT, that's not what I'm seeing out of the Proton Physix, for a big ball, this piece is versatile! I drilled my ball with a long pin placing the pin over the middle finger and 3" PSA as I wanted clean but strong controlled motion. I tested this on the 46' Johnny Petraglia and it handled that oil nooooo problem! As I kept moving left, it kept racing back and didn't lose its energy going thru the pins. Very impressive! Storm Proton Physix Layout - 65 x 4.5 x 30 Holy hook monster! This ball is super strong, probably the strongest ball we make. This is meant to be used on the heaviest of oil conditions, when you are trying to create motion when the lane will not provide it. For me it is noticeably earlier and more hook than the original Physix. Speed dominant players, long heavy oil conditions, USBC Open Championships, these are the people/enviorments where this ball will be best used! Great shelf appeal and all you can eat hook!

Hands down the strongest ball available. The Physix line is now batting 1.000 and this one handles all the oil you could imagine. The trick is always getting the continuation threw the pins with these top shelve most aggressive balls. The Proton has more backend and continues threw the pins better then any ball in this category ever made!

Storm Proton Physix – layout: 70 x 1 ½ x 60 Tech specs: NeX reactive coverstock – Atomic Core – 2000ab finish Ball review: When layout out this ball I took into account how much more rev dominate I have become in the past 2 years. So with that we drilled a shorter pin to pap for me to help calm the ball down overall. Anything 3 ½ to 5 ½ pin to pap is way too strong for me for asymmetric cores since my accident over 2 years ago. During the course of practicing and filming for my ball video I found the Proton to be stronger overall than any the Omega Crux that actually had a stronger pin to pap layout. I was thinking that with the 1 ½ inch pin drilling, it would be smooth rolling down the entire lane, but surprisingly I was not. It still saved plenty of energy in the front part of the lane to allow it to recover very nicely in the backend of the lane. Was also able to play straight with less hand and still hold up very well and was also to open up the front angle and still have plenty of strength to strike the pocket pretty hard. This is step up in strength from the new Roto Grip RST-X1 with similar layout.

Can you say hook in a box? Introducing the latest and greatest Big Asymmetrical Bowling Ball brought to you by Storm Products, the Proton Physix. The Proton Physix features the same core found in the original Physix, but wrapped in a NEX Coverstock. What that means is they amped up the coverstock previously seen on the Axiom, but is now stronger. I was absolutely blown away by how much this ball hooked out of the box. I bowled on a fresh Mexico City pattern and I tried to play them rather straight to start and this ball immediately started hooking. I ended up starting around 18 and had no problem tossing this ball to the right and watch it recover and absolutely destroy the pins. This ball is best used on heavy oil conditions and I promise you, you'll never have to worry about a ball not hooking on some volume. For as strong as this ball is, it never looses continuation; it always seems to keep going and not lose its energy going through the pins. Get yours today at your local Storm VIP Pro Shop!

Storm Physix has an RG value of 2.48 with a differential of 0.053 and Intermediate differential of 0.017. Storm came out with a brand new combination of the NEX (Nano Extreme) solid cover wrapped around the Atomic Core. The Proton Physix has a low RG and a high differential with a center heavy core will create a very responsive backend reaction which makes this ball a staple on the heavy oil patterns or a first out of the bag on a fresh house shot or heavy oil patterns for either the low or high rev player.

Since the arrival of the Atomic Core, it has pushed the shaping limits of an asymmetrical ball. Wrap that around the NeX Solid cover and you have yourself the brand new Proton Physix. I drilled mine 5 x 5.5 x 1 and after throwing this ball for awhile I noticed how difference this ball is compared to the Gravity Evolve or any other solid asymmetrical, this ball shapes totally different. The Proton Physix rolls strong in the mid lane but doesn't quit on back end either. Which doesn't surprise me in the Physix line. This ball will be great on heavier/longer patterns and on those heavy fresh house shots.

This is a VERY strong ball! It reminds me of a UFO but a little earlier and more rounded/smoother. It was also more continuous on the backend than my Omega Crux which goes more forward off the end of the pattern. I was able to throw it on 4 different oil patterns ranging from 39' to 43' feet in length with the factory 2000 grit finish, 3000 and 4000 grit finishes. I had to keep the speed up with this ball or it would really grab and want to hook early. This will be a great ball for high speed players and players with a lower rev rate that can't get a ball to hook up on longer/slicker conditions but like to play up the track area. High rev players will need plenty of oil and low speed players will need way less surface or even some polish. I can see this ball working really well on challenge/sport shots or "cliffed" lanes because it doesn't boomerang on the backend which helps keep you in the pocket and doesn't leave you ugly splits from steep angles. Although it hooks a ton, it is very easy to throw and a ton of high scores are being shot with this ball. This ball fits at the high end of the hook scale with the Omega Crux or UFO (big oil balls). Wait there's another Physix coming out?! Yes that's right, the brand new Proton Physix! This ball is a great compliment to the original, being that the cover is slightly stronger on this new release. So, you can use this Proton Physix even before you pull out the original Physix. It will be perfect for heavier oil conditions, both sport and house shots! If you are a fan of the Roto Grip UFO, you will also like this ball because the two are very comparable. Many times this will be the first ball out of the bag, and it will allow you control when your other balls are not seeing the right spot or shooting too far down the lane. The pink colors on this Proton Physix also increase the shelf appeal and overall beauty of the ball!

I had the PhysiX and have the AstroPhysiX, so I just knew I had to get the Proton PhysiX. This ball is definitely a ball that is going to be great on heavy oil conditions. It is clean through the fronts and pops on the backend. We are bowling on a longer pattern in the sport shot league I bowl in and this ball is great for that. I can play inside with this ball or even stay a little further right before moving my feet left. With my rev rate this is exactly the ball I need when it comes to heavy oil conditions and longer patterns. I am so happy with this ball and that it rounds out my arsenal nicely. I am planning to bowl some PWBA events in 2021 and the USBC Women's Open and this ball will definitely be one that I take with me to those events. This ball will be one I take with me to pretty much all tournaments. I cannot wait to see what it gives me on different patterns. Sabrina Groves Storm Amateur Staffer

You want the strongest ball in heavy oil? Look np further than the Proton Physix. This ball not only smells great, but also cut through the oil and has a strong backend motion. The Proton offers the NEX cover and the new Atomic core at 2.48 .053 with PSA of .017. This ball is comparable to the Gravity Evolve just stonger downlane, but still hooks in the heavy stuff. The NEX cover is also offered on the Axiom. This is a much stronger Axiom or an earlier Astro.

Hey everyone, this is Storm staff member Josh Shoemaker here again with another ball review for the Proton Physix. As always, I would like to thank Storm for providing the equipment I use every time I step out onto the lanes and Logo Infusion for making sure I always look good no matter what! Today I will be bowling on a standard medium volume 42' house shot. The Proton Physix features the NEX solid nano based cover found on the Axiom, but is now wrapped around the atomic core. This core boasts an RG of 2.48, Diff of 0.054 and intermediate of 0.017 in #16 lbs respectively. This is the same core that was found in the original Physix and Astro Physix. The Proton comes out of the box with a 3000 matte finish. I fell in love with the original Physix right after drilling it. It was one of my favorite mild asymmetric balls with a medium strength cover that seems like it was always in play. When the Proton was announced to our staff team, I immediately got excited. I was hoping that the stronger NEX cover would retain the amount of shape I saw out of the original Physix on heavier volumes of oil. So far, the Proton hasn't disappointed. Balls like the Sure Lock and No Rules were staples in my bag for when I needed to open up the lane on heavier house shots or higher volume sport patterns. The Proton allows me to open up my angles when the pattern starts to develop and give away the pocket without sacrificing optimal deflection through the pins. I can see myself hitting the Proton with a fresh 1000 pad and using it on higher volume fresh patterns or letting it lane shine and using it during league to blend the high ratio pattern. When compared to the Omega Crux, the Proton Physix slows down faster and is more continuous downlane as opposed to the Omega Crux being straighter off the end of the pattern. As much as I loved the original PhysiX (I've owned four of them!), I never thought that I'd ever say the words "PhysiX upgrade"... but yet here I find myself, saying this about the new Proton PhysiX! This provides an extremely familiar feel in shape to the original PhysiX and the AstroPhysiX, while also providing an upgrade in both traction and control over the PhysiX thanks to being wrapped in the same NeX Solid coverstock as the Axiom. If you need traction and hook in heavy oil... you will NOT be disappointed with the Proton PhysiX!
