Roto Grip RST X-2 Ball Review PJ Haggerty The Roto Grip RST X-2 is one of the latest additions to the HP4 line at Roto Grip. After the X-1 was released with it's hybrid coverstock and new Roto Star Tour core, our wizards in Utah crated a very similar ball with an update pearl coverstock (e-Trax) in the X-2. With an RG coming in at 2.53 and differential at .053, the X-2 is a perfect compliment to the X-1, UFO Alert, and Reality. I've found a lot of success when using the X-2 after lanes transition and patterns stretch. The X-2 has become a staple in my bag and is a perfect ball to use when needing more entry angle and a faster response time. I've drilled one X-2 so far and think it rolls great. I mapped it as 5 x 4.5 x 80. This puts the pin above my bridge and the mass bias just to the right of my thumb. Also, I lightly scratched the surface with a 3000 pad to take some of the box-shine off. With still having an asymmetrical core, it still fights through oil in the middle of the lane but provides a quicker response time off friction down lane. I've seen multiple types of players have success with the X-2 and it should be the next ball you drill to compliment your UFO Alert or Reality!

Ball Specs: Roto Grip RST X-2 Cover: 1500 Polished e-Trax™ PLUS Pearl Reactive Weight Block: RST™ Core (Asymmetrical) Color: Tanzanite Review: We had several customers overlook the original RST at first simply because of the name seeming too technical. We had a demo event a few weeks after the release and I think a lot of our league bowlers were surprised at how it stood out from the rest of the bowling balls at the event. Fast forward to the X-2 release and we were not surprised at the immediate excitement and all the talk amongst the bowling community. This ball is special and stands out, especially being similar colors to the Hy-Road Pearl. The reaction is unlike any other, kind of in a league of its own. You can expect this ball to have exponential versatility, kind of like a consistent symmetrical ball that isn't. This is a must have for seasoned veterans and tournament bowlers. The RST X-2 is the newest asymmetrical pearl from Roto Grip. For me, this ball gives me the strong reaction of the RST X-1, just further down lane because of the clean cover. The RST X-2 is similar to the Dark Code and Rubicon UC2, but gets down lane further before starting to hook, and is more angular than both of these balls. In my YouTube ball review, you will see that the RST X-2 pops harder off the spot than the Rubicon UC2. When I first saw the RST X-2 I thought it looked like a Hy-Road Pearl. This ball will be really good when you want to open the lane up and still get hook in the back. It has been really good for me already in this league season! The RST-X2 is the new pearl version of the successful RST-X1. he RST X-2 features the newly adjusted etrax plus pearl coverstock with the Roto Star Tour Asymmetrical Core. This ball compliments the solid version so so well. As soon as the RST-X1 starts hook a little too early in the mid lane, this is the go to ball for me. It gets down the lane so well, so clean, and very strong on the end. For me, I knocked the shine off with a 4000 pad to see if control the backend reaction a bit. It took the surface adjustment very well, and now I have a very controlled backend response but still very strong. When the lanes start to break down and open up a bit, this will be a great ball to move left and get it to the dry.

Roto Grip RST-X2 review by Mike Craig
I drilled the X2 75 x 5 x 20. I have lightly touched the surface with a 3000 pad to get some of the shine off. X2 review: This is a pearl version of the X1 and it has some of the same motion except further down the lane. My X1 was a little lazy at times and lane shined fairly easy. When I did hit it with 2000 abr, other balls like the PROTON PHYSIX or REALITY were much better looks. The X2 I compared to my DARK CODE, ZEN, and RUBICON UC2. Compared to the DARK CODE, my X2 is less violent off the spot. The DARK CODE can really go sideways on me with my slower speed. The X2 was more forward at the spot. Some of that is the 20* back angle. When I drill asyms with this back layout, they get forward on me earlier and can control the break point. Compared to the ZEN, the X2 is more push and more rounder at the spot. The ZEN is my go to ball when I want to get thru the fronts with good motion that almost never misses the spot. For me, the X2 is a little longer but my ZEN also has 2000 on it at all times. I can see these 2 playing off each other in my rotation. Compared to the UC2, the X2 is earlier and slightly stronger. My UC2 is the go long/finish later look in my bag and the X2 could be the option when I am getting too much length with the UC2.

RST X-2: The RST X-2 features the eTrax Plus Pearl cover and the RST asymmetric Core. The numbers on the RST core are 2.53 RG, .053 diff and a .016 intermediate diff. My X-2 is drilled 5" x 4" with a 2" pin buffer. Right off the bat you can see that the X-2 is much cleaner than the X-1. Where the X-1 was very strong in the front part of the lane, the X-2 is the opposite. It floats very easily through the front and when it reads friction it makes a fast, strong shape down lane. If you are a player who likes to get in and throw it to the dry, the RST X-2 is a winner.

The RST X-2 features the newly adjusted etrax plus pearl coverstock and rst or roto star tour asymmetric core. Angel's layout is the same as always, 5 x 3 ½ x 3 ½, that puts the pin above the bridge and kicks the psa out a couple inches, my layout is 4 ¾ x 3 ½ x 3 ½, which puts the pin in my ring finger and kicks the psa out a bit further. eTrax plus pearl is a bit earlier and slower than the base etrax cover on the Rubicon UC2, but still offers a lot of length up front and boom down lane. The asymmetric rst core is medium strength for an asym, not quite a mild asym like the Tensor core in the Incite or the Rondure core in the Rubicon's, but not as strong as something like the RAD4 core in the Code series or the Atomic core in the PhysiX series. It comes in at a 2.53 rg, .053 differential, and an .016 split or intermediate differential in 15 pounds, and it creates a very round and continuous motion on the lanes that has plenty of torque without being too early or aggressive. The X2 is a great compliment to the X1, as it shapes virtually identically, just being longer and quicker as well as a couple boards weaker. For ratings, I've got the RST X2 at an 8 for hook, a 7 for length, and a 9 for backend strength.

Orientation: Right Handed Rev Rate: 400 RPM Speed: 16-17 MPH PAP: 4 ½ over and ½ up Location: Enterprise Park Lanes, Springfield MO Pattern: High Volume THS VLS Layout: Layout 2: 4 ½ x 4 x 4 1/8 (pin below bridge) My X1 created a motion I've never seen before. I couldn't throw it a ton though because it was SUPER strong. My X2 is clean and creates that same reaction on much less volume. That means I can use it a TON more than I was able to use the X1. My X2 is pin down and it creates a LOT of backend motion. I can throw it to the friction for days and it comes off the spot easily and strong. It's that same X1 motion just 5 feet further down the lane, which makes it much more usable.

Great compliment to the X1. Perfectly fits right behind it. Overall stronger and a little sooner then my UC2. Reminds me a lot of one of my all time favorites the Astro Physix.

Roto Grip RST X-2 Ball Review by Ric McCormick
Roto Grips newest HP4 Clean Asymmetric option is the brand new RST X-2! This features the eTrax Pearl Reactive Coverstock wrapped around the RST Core (Roto Star Tour Core)! This is the Pearl version of the RST X-1 on the heavier lane conditions! Mine is drilled pin over my bridge with the Mass Bias close to my thumb! This ball motion wise reminds me of a Hy-Road Pearl just asymmetric with that clean motion through the lane with a good angle down lane but not to much down lane! Recently had success with this RST X-2 right after my Zen Master and UFO was to early this ball got through the early friction and created tremendous entry angle with good hitting power! Head over to Dave's World Of Bowling on 8/27/21 and get yours for a ball with tremendous down lane motion for heavier lane conditions!

After the success of the RST X1 it was natural to compliment it with the pearl RST X2. The RST X2 is cleaner and more angular than the original RST. We see plenty of shape down lane with the pearl cover. Additionally, the X2 is more overall than the UC2. The X2 will play well on a variety of conditions from sport to house. If you were a fan of the Astro Physix this will be comprable although a tad stronger. As the lanes transition and begin to hook early we have 2 new options with the Hustles; the solid and the pearl. If the back ends are crisp the solid will come into play to slow the ball down and control the back end. When a more skid/flip reaction is necessary the pearl could be utilized. The high rg low differential on these balls will provide plenty of control when there is a ton of overall hook on the lane front to back.

The New RST X2 is the pearl counterpart to the popular RST X1. The X2 delivers exactly what you expect. Cleaner in the front with a more angular backend than the X1. Not only does this ball look great going down the lane, it also performs great on the lanes. This could be a really good ball for the transition after the X1 or a ball down from a UFO or even the UFO Alert. The X2 delivers stronger midlane motion while providing that great backend. On a THS, this ball can be great on the fresh if the pattern has some extra friction or as a game 2 or game 3 ball depending on your style. On Sport Patterns, I expect this ball to handle the higher volumes of oil on medium to longer patterns. For me, the X2 is slightly stronger midlane and more continuous motion than the Nuclear Cell.
