Hy-Wire

The Haywire has been one of my favorite Roto Grip balls for some time now, so I was excited for the Hy-wire release. They both use the same core, but the Hy-wire is wrapped in a hybrid coverstock. I drilled my Hy-wire 4.25” from my PAP, which puts the pin above and outside my ring finger with no extra hole. My Hy-wire is a great compliment to the Haywire. Where the Haywire picks up the pattern early and reacts slowly to friction, the Hy-wire clears the front part of the lane much easier and is more responsive to dry. I wouldn’t call the Hy-wire a skid snap reaction, like a Snap Lock or Optimus. I see the Hy-wire being the first non-solid coverstock ball out of my bag for a long time.

My name is Doug Cutler and I am a Storm/Roto Grip Staffer and I am left handed and throw the ball between 15-16mph. My First Hy-Wire I drilled it 75 x 4 1/2 x 25 and the surface is out of box 1500 grit polish. The Hy-Wire I compared it with the Critical and Haywire. The Hy-Wire I have used it on a Typical House Shot (41 Foot), and also on Cheetah, and Viper and have good success on all 3 patterns. The Hy-Wire is a perfect fit in the HP3 Line. 62M™ Hybrid Reactive coverstock is one part solid and two parts pearl, which means that I can scoot through the front just like a pearlized cover and have just what is needed from a solid at the breakpoint. This ball is really smooth thru the mid lane and save a lot of energy for the back and has a lot of back end reaction and hit the pocket really hard and keeps the pins low. This ball is a real compliment to the Haywire and also the Critical. The Hy-Wire is one of my go to balls and it is a ball that I will start with on Typical House shots or on any Medium lane conditions. If the Hy-Wire starts to go to long I will go to my Haywire and the Haywire reads the mid lane a little earlier and is very strong off the break point and this is a good 1-2 punch and also my Critical reads the mid lane a little earlier then my Hy-wire and it is much smoother off the break point so all 3 of these balls complement each other and I am glad I have all 3 balls in my bag. If the Hy-wire is not enough ball or on a Heavier oil pattern, I will go to my Storm Lock. The Hy-Wire is good on Medium Oil Patterns. I have not seen anything yet that I don't like about the Hy-Wire. The Hy-Wire is a ball that allows me to keep the ball in front of me and keep straight , but I can also open my shoulders up and open the lane up a little so it is a very versatile ball. Overall every customer loved this ball. Price point, performance, colors, the whole package. If you have a lower rev rate or a higher ball speed it might not be the best match. When you're bowling on a THS this ball will open up the track and give you a great look on the back end. Pin carry seemed pretty good in our center, we have Brunswick pin setters and the corners are a bit rough some times. The angularity from the shell is very impressive and it's a fun ball to roll. I drilled one for a high rev player on the THS. He was moving his feet in more and more and this ball did not quit. Customers liked it, I liked it and I'm sure you will too. Go get it and OwnIt!

Layout – 55 x 4 ½ x 50 Box Finish The Roto Grip HyWire has a big backend reaction that is fantastic on a wide variety of lane conditions. It ignores the heads completely, has a touch of midlane roll, but mostly unleashes itself in the backend part of the lane. It is a great choice to take advantage of house shots or medium to dryer sport shots where opening up the lane is necessary. The amount of backend that the HyWire possesses lends itself to have great entry angle and pin carry, as well. The HyWire is a good 2-3 boards stronger, in box finish, versus a Roto Grip Hustle P/R/O that has a 4000 grit finish. The Hustle P/R/O is smoother and weaker overall, and is better suited to a lighter oil condition. These two can be a great combination for a variety of house shots. The Hy-Wire is the latest release from Roto Grip with the middle roll 70 core. This rendition has a polished hybrid cover called 62M. The 62M cover has 1 part solid (blue) and 2 parts pearl (yellow and violet). The core numbers of the middle roll 70 core is 2.50 with a differential of 0.043 in 15lb balls. The Hy-Wire is in the HP3 line of bowling balls. I drilled my Hy-Wire 4 x 4 ¾ x 2 ¾ . The Hy-Wire has a spin off name from last years release, the Haywire, but when bowling with my Hy-Wire, I have a reaction that is more complimentary to my Deranged (polished pearl with the 61MH cover) than that of the Haywire. My Hy-Wire is a little earlier, and smoother off the spot than my Deranged, and covers more over all boards by about a 3 and 2 move in. I have had good success with my Hy-Wire on some medium length PBA patterns, as well as some modified house conditions. On our current house shot, the Hy-Wire is a little too skid flippy, and pushes me a little too deep for optimum pin carry, as the pattern is a bit cliffed, and I need to throw balls to blend the corner better. I really like my Hy-Wire when the patterns flatten out a touch, but still has more of a medium volume to them. I have tried sanding the cover of my Hy-Wire, but have found that for me, I really like the cover polished, and just use the ball when the conditions deem necessary. The Hy-Wire is a true medium oil to slight medium heavy condition ball. For heavier volumes or highly viscous oils, I would recommend the Haywire, as the cover on the Haywire can handle more oil, but for medium volumes of oil and moderate length patterns, the Hy-Wire is a great option. I have had great success with ALL the bowling balls that have used the middle roll 70 core. For me, this is one of the most user friendly cores I have ever thrown. This Hy-Wire, is no different, just finding it’s home in a slightly different lane condition environment than the previously released balls thanks to this version of cover stock. The Roto Grip Hywire is the newest release in Roto Grip’s HP3 line. The Hywire contains the Middle Roll 70 core which can also be found in its counterpart the Haywire. The Hywire is wrapped with the 62M Hybrid coverstock and is finished at polished 1500 grit The Hywire is the new polished version of the Haywire and was created to give a cleaner smoother look compared to the Haywire. I drilled mine with a 55 x 4.5 x 25. I wanted to give the ball some length down lane with a smoother reaction off the breakpoint. I decided on a 4.5 inch pin distance to give myself a fairly strong flare potential. After throwing this ball I’ve found that it is real clean through the fronts because of the factory polish and the overall ball reaction is very smooth and easy reading because of the solid element in the coverstock. The ball packs a punch when it hits the pins and the overall strong reaction gives me a little bit of miss room to the right. I recommend this ball for anyone looking for a strong and versatile benchmark ball. This ball will be good for any type of bowler who has a straighter game or more of a deeper lane play player. The Hywire will be real good on drier, medium, or medium heavy lane conditions. It might be a bit weak for fresh heavier oil patterns but it will definitely be a good transition ball on those heavier conditions.

The Hy-wire is the perfect compliment to the Haywire. They both use the same core with the exception that the Hy-wire is a hybrid. The Hy-wire has a very good ball motion. It gets through the heads very well without hooking too early which people see when the lanes get to dry and the Haywire starts to burn up or hook to soon. Its a perfect ball down from the Haywire. Its a good compliment to that benchmark ball in your arsenal; it helps give that 1-2 punch. I drilled my Hy-wire 5.5? x 5? placing the pin above my ring finger. This is one of my favorite layouts on symmetrical cores. It helps get the ball downlane while making a continuous but controllable backend motion.

Rev Rate: 400 Ball Speed: 17.3 Axis Tilt: 7 Axis Rotation: 45* PAP: 3 3/4 horizontal, 7/8 up Layout: 50 x 5 x 30 The HyWire is just fun to roll! I've been able to use it on a variety of house patterns and it always clears the heads and turns the corner. It opens up the lane better than most pearls or hybrids. I am yet to have it burn up on me. As the condition breaks down, I just migrate left with small moves and it keeps me in the pocket. I can't say enough about how good the HyWire is. I don't normally say that a ball is an 'essential', but I believe the HyWire is just that. It will fill a gap in your arsenal that you didn't know you had. This ball is a purchase you will not regret.

I drilled up the Hy-Wire to see what the hype was about. There is a guy in our traveling league who has shot 4-5 800's in about a 3 week span using this ball exclusively. After getting mine and putting it on the lanes, I can see what the fuss. I can get it left and it rolls really heavy and strong and seems to get back from everywhere on the lane. I have noticed that I do need the pattern to be in the medium to longer-medium range for this to look really good on. I have also been able to touch the surface with 3000 and keep the lane shine down to a minimum and the ball still has a good crisp move at the breakpoint. I have thrown this one next to my Fight and it is a good "ball" down when the Fight is too early in box condition. I have also staged this one in front of my Sky Rocket as when it starts to check up too quickly, it is perfect for me to ball down to the Sky Rocket. Put this one in your bag if you want the typical go long-finish strong look in your bag. But as with all Storm/Roto pearls/hybrids, you can dramatically change the look with surface and get more versatility out of the ball.

The Roto Grip Hy-wire is newest release in the HP3 line. It is the Hybird version on the very popular Haywire. The Haywire is one of my favorite balls, especially on the fresh. But sometimes I had to put it up in game 3 as it was starting to labor downlane. Now with the Hy-wire it is a perfect ball to go to. As it has 1 part solid and 2 part Pearl which it allows to clear the heads cleaner and store more energy to the back end. The Hy-wire still to me has the forward rolling motion to it but much cleaner than Haywire, Eternal, or Critical. The carry is great with this type of motion. Roto Grip Hy-Wire Ball Review by PJ Haggerty The new Hy-Wire by Roto Grip is the newest release in the HP3 line and fits perfectly in the line! After the Haywire was released, Roto Grip kept the same core, but created a hybrid coverstock to create more length and a quicker response time than the Haywire. The Hy-Wire fits that description perfectly. I’ve drilled one Hy-Wire thus far and love it. I put the pin above my ring finger, shifted the CG a good amount, and put a good size hole on my axis. It’s mapped out as: 4 ½ x 2 with a 31/32 hole 3 inches deep. With this layout, the ball itself creates length because of its cover, but I’ve tried to smooth it out as much as possible. My goal with this layout was to create a motion I could use on multiple patterns. Other than shorter patterns, I’ve been able to use this Hy-Wire on everything else. I’ve also tweaked the surface a few times, but I’ve had the most success with the surface at 2000. I think the Hy-Wire has somewhat of a rolly, forward motion to it, while still creating length and a quicker response time. If you are looking for something cleaner than your Eternal Cell or Lock, the Hy-Wire will fill that gap perfectly! #OwnIt

The exciting new release into the RotoGrip HP3 line is the HyWire. The HyWire uses the proven Middle Roll 70 core that was also used in the Haywire. The Middle Roll 70 Core provides superior midlane control and the addition of the 62M Hybrid Coverstock means strong continuous power through the pins. My coordinates are 5 5/8 over and ¾ up for my PAP, Ball speed is medium, Rev Rate around 300 and I am right handed. The layout I chose was pin over the fingers with no hole and did not touch the coverstock at all leaving it polished. The numbers on the layout are 65X5.5X45. I was able to compare the HyWire against the proven Haywire to see what the differences really were. First and foremost the HyWire generates more length and more backend motion than the Haywire on the medium to short oil patterns. That should not surprise anyone. The Haywire was more responsive on the medium heavy patterns and also the longer patterns than the HyWire. Again that should not surprise anyone. The real surprise for me was how versatile the HyWire really is. On the shorter patterns the HyWire generated enough length that when carry down happened the strength of the backend was a huge benefit. On the medium length patterns the HyWire allowed me to play to my strengths which is straighter and keeping the ball in front of me. On the longer patterns, the Haywire was the ball to use hands down but the HyWire was not totally a fish out of water. The HyWire came into play when the front part of the lane became dryer and slightly wet/dry condition started happening. The HyWire generated good length and had enough on the backend to mix the pins up. The HyWire will only add more versatility to an already diverse HP3 line! Bowler: Keven Williams Hand: Left Rev Rate: 450 Speed: 18 The Roto Grip Hywire is definitely one of my "Go To" bowling balls in my bag! This ball really is something special with that one part solid, two parts pearl 62M Coverstock. The Hywire is very clean in the front part of the lane for a 2.50 RG ball while still reving up in the mid lane and having a ton of backend motion downlane. This ball hooks in all the right ways! The Hywire compliments the Haywire very well as its cleaner in the fronts but still the same amount of hook potential overall. When my Haywire is just a little too early rolling, the Hywire comes right into play!

Roto Grip Hy-Wire Layout: 35 x 3 ½ x 55 Coverstock: 1500grit polished Lane conditions: 42 ft. house pattern with 2015 Flex with Fire and Ice conditioner on older HPL installed in early 2000’s. Test results: I took my Hy Road, Hyper Pearl, and Wrecker to compare the Hy-Wire to doing the testing. I notice right away with the colors, I could “read” the ball better then Hy Road, and Hyper Cell, and just as good as my Wrecker. When it came time to test and look at the results, I noticed a great comparison to the Wrecker, just a tick longer and a tick more angular. It went longer than my Hyper Pearl and Hy Road also, which I was surprised when the Hyper Pearl started to move earlier off the spot then the Hy-Wire just because of the core and cover strength of the Hyper Pearl. I loved the additional length it provides me on the lane surface I usually bowl on, because even lower end balls that are pearl tend to “dig” in a little early for me and when I move, it start to get over/under almost right away. So, if you are looking to replace that Hy Road, Wrecker or Hyper Cell, this is the ball that could make the difference between no honor score and an honor score.

The Hy-Wire is the ball to own if you want or need easy length and perhaps the strongest backend move on the market. The hybrid cover is 2 parts pearl and 1 part solid, and shows that with a very pearl-esque motion on the lanes. However, the solid shows itself in midlane revving and control at the pocket. Despite an exceptionally strong move on the backend, the Hy-Wire exhibits a surprising amount of control at the pocket and through the pins. It goes through the pocket the correct way, offering a very high carry percentage often missing on flush or solid pocket hits from other balls with similar strength on the backend, which can sometimes be too strong through the pocket leaving odd "stone" or "solid" back row pins standing. It's also a very versatile ball, with a few minor physical changes allowing you to play virtually anywhere on the lane, which can be a critical part of scoring well: the ability to make small adjustments without having to go to your bag.

The new HyWire is a polished hybrid, that clears the fronts easily and creates a TON of backend. But the good kind of backend that’s strong but smooth and consistent every time. I drilled my HyWire to rev up in the midlane then tip downlane and that’s just what it does. I have no problem getting the ball through the heads, but the famous MiddleRoll 70 Core (Disturbed,Haywire,Asylum) has no problem picking up in the oil. At the breakpoint the cover definitely wants to go sideways, but it does it very smooth and controlled so you know you’re not going to over skate the breakpoint or snap too hard off the dry. For those who love the Haywire, the HyWire will be the perfect piece to switch to once the Haywire stops finishing on the back. It’s one of my favorite balls already!
