Octane Carbon The Octane Carbon, what to say about this ball. Well lets dig in. The Carbon is the newest ball with a duel density weight block offered by Motiv. What I found with the weight block in this version of the octane series is the different shape. The new weight block is substantially cleaner than its predecessors. What I allows liked about the Quadfire core in the Qz/Thrash/Octane line was they way the core read the midlane. The midlane was more pronounced with the Quadfire core. The Injector core in the Carbon does not read the midlane nearly as hard and therefore seems to scoot to the spot cleaner than all aforementioned balls. With the increased RG value and the similar Diff value this ball really shines with added motion down lane. So how does one drill a ball like this in order to utilize the core values of this ball? I drilled this with one of my favorite late block layouts. I used 50 X 4.5 X 45, this put the pin up and in the middle of the bridge with the GC just kicked out a bit. The question begs does the ball work well. Yes it does. The Carbon shines best on the burn and late game situations. The core allows the ball to glide through the front and middle with ease, the covers response to the friction down lane is hard and continuous. The cover is not as sensitive as past releases to the friction but still allows you to open the angles up and really toss it to the spot and let the ball buck back to the pocket. I fully expect this ball to be a mainstay in the bag for long block events and places where the surface hooks. I also plan on drilling another Carbon with my favorite pin down layout. Those with high rev rates and those who are soft on speed, who have trouble getting balls to motion later should really check this nugget out. Clayton Mohr Motiv Staff

Bob Benton Maryland Motiv Octane Carbon ( http://www.motivbowling.com/products/balls/octane-carbon.html) 70 x 5 x 35 (3000 Abralon) Personal Stats: 400-450 RPM 18-20 MPH PAP - 5 5/8" over, 1" up Axis Tilt - Estimated 8-12 Degrees Current League Average: 238 Intended Use: I drilled the Octane Carbon with my go-to pin-up layout and hit it with 3000 abralon. My goal for this piece was to give me a logical step down from the United Revolt and step up from the Venom Cobra. I was looking for angular motion for medium to med-heavy patterns. Reaction: The Octane Carbon at 3000 abralon gives me angular motion, without being allergic to oil. Not the quickest response motion in the line, but still provides plenty of punch in the back of the lane on medium patterns. Logical step down from the Octane Carbon or possibly from a strong drilling Venom Shock. Overall: The Octane Carbon fits perfectly in the niche I aimed for. When the Venom Cobra just isn't strong enough, but the United Revolt is just too much, this piece fits perfectly in the middle while providing the entry angle required to string strikes.

Rev Rate: 500 Axis Tilt: 25 Axis Rotation: 45 Ball Speed:17 PAP Measurements: 4 1/8 Core: Injector Coverstock: Agitator MXR Pearl Finish: 5500 Grit LSP Recommended Lane Condition: Light-Medium Oil RG: 2.56 (for 15# ball) Differential: 0.042 (for 15# ball) The Carbon Octane is the 3rd installment to the Octane series and is a series that I am quite fond of, the combination of the Agitator coverstock and the Injector core will provide you with predictive continuation and sharp entry angles. As I threw my Carbon Octane what caught my attention was the way it rolled as it was very continuous from start to finish, unlike the original Octane and the Octane Burn it didn't skid as much despite it providing me great length. I attribute the Carbon Octane's ball motion to the Injector core and its continuous motion, the previous Octanes both had the Quadfire core which allowed them to skid more freely and starting up down lane. A great quality about the Carbon Octane is how quickly it responds to friction which I found beneficial to me when I found myself playing high angles from the right or deep angles from the left, the sharp continuation of the Carbon didn't disappoint me. I had an instant love jones once I threw the Carbon and I have found it to serve as a phenomenal tag team partner to my United Revolt and Venom Shock, should either of the two become too much ball for the desired condition I throw the Carbon and pick up where I left off. Another great quality about the Carbon Octane is how well it takes to surface adjustments as the previous Octanes were best left at box in my opinion, adding surface to the Carbon will slow down the overall sharpness of the ball and make the shape more continuous than what it is at box. I feel higher ball speeds will be able to take advantage of that while those of lesser speeds will find the Carbon more useful at box finish, I've had success with the Carbon at surfaces from 800. My first favorite surface to keep it at is box and the second is 2000, as I stated adding surface just makes it more continuous and in my opinion you can never have too much of that. I consider the Carbon Octane to be a must have for those that are a fan of the Octane series like myself and for those who have wanted more out of their Octane Burn overall from a ball motion standpoint, a bowling ball definitely worth adding to your arsenal. Do yourself a favor and inhale the fumes from the Carbon Octane and allow yourself to get high off Octane.

Review: The Octane Carbon is the latest release from MOTIV Bowling. The new Carbon brings together a new core and cover combo that will just strike at will that I believe MOTIV fans will absolutely will love. The Octane Carbon introduces the new dual-density Injector Core. This core gives the Carbon a higher RG to give it much needed length down lane and then add the new Agitator MXR Pearl Reactive cover stock the Octane Carbon has retainable energy that we have never seen in MOTIV products. This combo makes the Octane Carbon one of the longest and most angular bowling ball on the market. INNER CORE Injector COVER STOCK Agitator MXR Pearl FINISH 5500 Grit LSP Comments: I'm currently on my 5th year as a MOTIV staffer player and during that time I have thrown some of the best equipment there is. A few of the have left me speechless on how well the performance is and the Octane Carbon is the one that have left me speechless the longest. First game after putting holes in it I shot a 300 game. The devastation through the pins is something I have never seen in a bowling ball in a very long time. During that game I through multiple angles and even through off balance shots and the Carbon just kept on coming back with authority. This by far is one of the best bowling balls MOTIV has ever made. The more I move left, the stronger it comes back. The retained energy it has through the pins I feel I can strike at will. This ball is a must for bowlers to have in their bags hands down. This ball will destroy house shots and will be a great for tournament conditions both on fresh and during transition if you need something down lane without losing performance. I recommend the Octane Carbon for all types of bowlers. MOTIV Staff Player, John Robertson www.motivbowling.com

The Octane Carbon is a new type of fuel for the avid bowler. I instantly fell in love with my Carbon as soon as I unboxed it. I compared mine with the United Revolt which I put a similar layout. What I immediately noticed about the Carbon, is the cleanliness through the front part of the lane and its response to the friction. Once reading the friction, it slightly reminded of the original Octane with a slightly more controlled backend but with even more continuation. The 1-2 combination with the Carbon and United is unreal. Starting with the United Revolt, it is a simple ball change to the Carbon if the United isn't quite making that turn around the corner. As lanes transition, the Octane Carbon is a great ball to go to. The Octane Carbon is love at first sight. Not only does it look good, it performs as well as it looks. Fans of the Octane line will have great appreciation for the Carbon. The players with higher ball speeds should not shy away from adding a little additional surface to the Octane Carbon. My personal preference would be to touch it with a 3000 grit pad just for it to pick up a little sooner. Even though it is a new combination of core and cover, the name fits perfectly when compared to the previous Octanes – with Carbon being highly indestructible, the Octane Carbon is a demolition going through the pins. Ball Specs: Motiv Octane Carbon Pearl Reactive 5500 LSP Dual Density Symmetric Core Bowler Specs: Right Hand. PAP 5 Over 3/4 up Rev Rate 275. Tilt 20. Rotation 50. Speed leaving hand 18 Review: The New Motiv Octane Carbon has easy length and a strong flip. The Carbon takes the Octane line to a new level of performance. The Octane Carbon fits between the Freestyle and the Forza GT in total hook. The new Agitator Pearl shell and Dual Density core get the Carbon through the front part of the lane easily, saving a strong, predictable backend move for the finish. The sharper entry angle allows for deeper lines with good carry. The ball has great shelf appeal and looks great rolling down the lane. I let a few High Rev bowlers try my Octane Carbon and the reaction was very good. These bowlers got easy length with a crushing hit. I think high rev bowlers or slower speeds with will be a good fit for the Octane Carbon. I tested the Carbon on a pretty fresh flatter pattern for the video, but it was more at home on a THS or as the lanes start to break down. The Carry of the Carbon was good on any shot most likely due to the sharper angles this ball creates, I did sand a Carbon down to 2000 for a high speed bowler and it worked very well. The Carbon with this surface reminded me of the Red Rage reaction. Motiv has really been enhancing performance, and the balls seem to go through the pins better and better. My carry is better and I don't see those pesky 10 pins as often. As I travel around tournaments I see the following Motiv has built and it is gaining momentum. Summary: The Octane Carbon has easy length with a sharp backend motion. This is a beautiful looking ball. The higher entry angle creates great pin carry. If you want an angular predictable ball, this is it! Glenn Wendel PBA Member Motiv Staff Ultimate Staff Video Link - https://youtu.be/fgzzr_pekhM gwendel@comcast.net www.motivbowling.com

The Octane Carbon is a totally new ball despite carrying the Octane name. It brings a new dual density Injector core with the Agitator MXR pearl overstock. This cover is something special being incredibly clean with easy length while producing new shapes for MOTIV on the back part of the lane. Those who are more forward with their ball roll will see the Octane Carbon as clean and smooth while those with a good deal of axis rotation will love the angle they can create. This tells me the Octane Carbon is able to create lots of shapes which means many style will like this ball and those who make small tweaks to their delivery will be able to see those great results. This ball is in the light-medium oil range and on the angular side of the ball chart. This impressive piece of high performance engineering is super responsive and corners hard! You will want this ball in your bag! MOTIV Staff Stephen Haas https://youtu.be/FY-QCs3c43M

Layout: 75 x 4 x 40 When the lanes start to dry out and you need some added performance in your game, get #firedup with the Octane Carbon. Motiv has brought two new pieces of technology to the Octane line to provide a truly high-rev piece: the Agitator MXR Pearl shell (5500LSP) wrapped around the duly density Injector core (2.56RG, .042Diff). The intention of my layout was to provide a slightly stronger compliment to my Venom Cobra between those second and third transitions and that is exactly what this ball provides. The pearl shell/high RG core combination provides easy projection through the heads. Given that I put a 4in pin placement on it I start to see the Carbon read the midlane yet it does not react early; it still glides down the lanes even though it is showing it is already reaction to the surface. Once at the breakpoint this ball unleashes a powerful move to the pocket which greatly helps when my launch angles widen (which they always do as the day progresses). Watching others throw their Carbons with longer pin placements reveals a backend that is even more dramatic. I have been able to throw mine on the fresh since our house shots are medium volume and even then it impressed. While I had to square up the lane I did not see any over reaction on the crisp, new backends. The ball read the mids well before making a quick motion to the pocket which carried through to the pit. This may be one of the more versatile balls I have in my bag right now. Trent Overbey In the Zone Pro Shop Motiv Staff www.motivbowling.com

OCTANE CARBON | #Fireonallcylinders DESCRIPTION: The Octane Carbon is the third Octane in the series, but is unlike the first two. It uses the BRAND NEW Injector Core, as well as a BRAND NEW cover, Agitator MXR Pearl. The addition of the Octane Carbon will actually force the Venom Cobra to move left on the ball guide ( http://www.motivbowling.com/resources/ball-guide.html), which will place the Octane Carbon in the angular, light to medium oil slot. REACTION: The Octane Carbon offers plenty of length, even on the most beat up patterns or in long blocks. With how fast the ball clears through the front part of the lane it picks up even faster when it hits friction. This will not be a first ball out of the bag for too many styles, but that is not the intention of this release. So far every time I have went to this ball it has been the right choice... a dependable ball that always provides length and great recovery is an asset for late in tournaments or even near the end of league sets. One additional note, there are those balls that just seem to have that extra carry, this ball has provided me with a very high carry percentage so far. Comparisons: The Venom Cobra is not as clean and is smoother than the Octane Carbon. Therefore, if you think that a Venom Cobra is angular that will put in perspective just how much quicker the Octane Carbon responds to friction. A Paranoia is also not as clean and not quite as angular but has more hook potential compared to the Octane Carbon. If you are trying to create an arsenal this ball is just as important as having the high-end asymmetrical ball, in fact it will give you complete opposite shapes, allowing you to fill in whatever you need in-between. Summary: Do NOT overlook the Octane Carbon just because you did not like the first two, the ONLY thing the same is the Octane logo! The ball will perform as stated, no tricks with this one. Length, there is plenty of that. Angular, no doubt you can see the ball change direction very fast. DESCRIPTION INNER CORE - Injector™ COVERSTOCK - Agitator™ MXR Pearl FINISH - 5500 Grit LSP RG RATING - 2.56 (15 lbs) RG DIFFERENTIAL - 0.42 (15 lbs) FLARE POTENTIAL - 4"+ REACTION The Octane Carbon is new, new, and new. As always, the Carbon has a brand new cover. This new cover is wrapped around a new core. Combine these two together and you get a new shape in the Motiv Line. The Octane Carbon is the longest and most angular ball we've ever produced. This ball is extremely clean through the heads and midlane with an explosive response to friction. As you will be able to see in my ball motion video, it makes a strong move off the friction. VIDEO https://youtu.be/EGCHzlHTiq4 COMPARISONS I featured two Octane Carbon balls in my video. There is a pin down (75 x 4.50" x 75) layout as well as a long pin up layout (60 x 5.25" x 40). The pin down Octane Carbon was compared to an original Paranoia and a Graffiti Tag. The Carbon is cleaner than the Paranoia while being about 3-5 boards weaker. I wasn't able to get the Paranoia to the spot while playing the same line as the Octane Carbon. It would grab earlier which ended up resulting in going through the face. I found the Octane Carbon to be significantly stronger than the Graffiti Tag without sacrificing any length (roughly 4-6 boards stronger). I wasn't able to get the Tag to face up when playing the same line as the Octane Carbon. While they both have somewhat similar shapes, the Tag wasn't able to read the lane nearly as well as the Carbon which is understandable. The Tag is made for light oil and is better suited for when the lanes have transitioned. With my ball motion video being filmed on a fresh pattern, there was still too much volume. The Octane Carbon was able to read the lane, stay on line, and go through the pins with energy. The long pin up Octane Carbon balls in my video were compared to a Chronic Paranoia and a Venom Cobra. The Octane Carbon is much cleaner than the Chronic Paranoia. Even more so than the original Paranoia. When playing the same line as the Octane Carbon, the Chronic Paranoia read the lane way too early. With it being 4-5 boards stronger than the Octane Carbon, the Chronic crossed over to the Brooklyn side of the head pin. The Venom Cobra is also earlier than the Octane Carbon. I wasn't able to get the 10 pin out from the same line as the Carbon because the Cobra was burning up just a bit too early from the same line. SUMMARY This ball is something different than I am used to seeing from Motiv. Over the years, I have had issues with fast/angular equipment. With my tilt, I got used to seeing angular balls either go 60 feet, or dead left at about 30. I can happily say this is no longer the case. The Primal Fear was one of the first angular balls that fit my game and fit it rather well. The Octane Carbon has continued upon that trend. I shot 300 the first game out of the box with my long pin Carbon. I can't ask for a better result than that. If you are looking for a ball that clears the heads with ease with an angular motion off the backend, this is your ball. I am thoroughly impressed with the Octane Carbon. This ball is the newest introduction into the Octane line of bowling balls. However, the MOTIV Octane Carbon features a totally new Injector core and Agitator MXR cover. It's super clean through the front of the lane and OMG can you say strong backend reaction. And of course, it has the continuation that has come to be expected from MOTIV bowling balls. It will be a great fit in your bag on light to medium oil. It's clean, strong and continuous. What else could you want from a ball. My Octane Carbon is laid out with the pin above the ring fingers, the CG basically stacked (just a slight shift right) and has no extra hole. This ball is not afraid to be thrown right and have plenty of backends to recover. This ball is clean, as would be expected from most pearlized balls, but does not have that allergic to oil issue that you'll find in a lot of pearl bowling balls. I can see this being my go to ball on the burn when opening the lane up becomes required. Craig Auerbach MOTIV Staff Member Florida
