Get revved up with the new Octane™ from MOTIV! This medium oil machine is fueled for an explosive backend motion. It features the Quadfire™ weight block and new Agility™ SFX Reactive tread. It is a very impressive piece of equipment. The engine powering the Octane™ is the proven Quadfire™ core, which provides a 2.55 RG for easy length and .043 differential to create the track flare needed for the transition on medium oil conditions. The hybrid black and purple pearl cover on the Octane™ is the new Agility™ SFX (Skid Flip Xtreme) Reactive formulation. This new technology provides outstanding length and an absolutely explosive backend reaction. Factory finish is 5000 Grit LSS (Laser Scan/Polished). The average bowler will have a blast throwing the Octane deep down the lane and outside to the dry boards so they can watch it come screaming off the backend. Highly competitive bowlers will definitely fill a hole in their arsenal with this Octane. The easy length and steep angle at the backend will allow them to play a line that many others will not be able to touch.

Get ready to start up and push those engines to the limit people! Once you add some #preimumgrade to your tank, or in this case… your bowling bag, there is no way the competition will be able to catch up with your scoring pace. Our friends from MOTIV Bowling have once again out did themselves when it comes to length with a nice snappy response from the backend with all the continuation you’ll ever need. Introducing the MOTIV Octane! For those lovers of the Trash series and those who remember the QZ line as well will be pleased to hear the re-introduction of the Quadfire core wrapped with a whole new cover stock. That’s right folk, the proven Quadfire core is wrapped with the new Agility SFX (Skid Flip Xtreme) coverstock that has already proven its length and powerful backend at the PBA Summer Swing in Ronnie Russell’s hands on his road to victory at the Bear Open. For those who have read my reviews in the past, you may notice that given my power-over-rev-rate style, I tend to go slightly against the grain with drilling layouts. The Octane was not much different in that approach as I decided to lay out with my favorite, placing the pin right below the bridge and the CG slightly kicked out. Such a drilling does lead to an earlier roll, but what can I say, stick with what ya know right? Although I did experience some success with this layout in the Octane, the reaction would have a tendency of being temperamental from time to time. Despite the amount of down-lane reaction I received from the Octane, the ball will experience difficulty tipping up and finishing with a punch if the ball started in the oil on an angled projection. So the question, what must I do to give this ball some life and really begin tearing it up? Simple answer, drop the surface finish to 1000. Within 2 weeks of such a minor adjustment, I proceeded to put together a 824 series with 299, 246, 279 and then to top the night off, shot an additional 279 in the four-game league for 1103. This minor change made a drastic difference in the reaction of my Octane, allowing it to grab the lane a tad sooner and provide it with the energy needed to drive through the rack down lane. All in all, the Octane fills a gap that has been much needed in adding to MOTIV continued growth in dimension. If you favor the idea of skip\flip, the Octane will absolutely be able to fill that gap in your bag. We all know that Octane is highly flammable. The new piece from MOTIV is no different. Friction causes fire and when this ball gets to the friction is almost leaves burn out marks on the lane it changes direction so fiercely. This ball is extremely clean through the front and it allows players of all abilities to have the confidence to move left and loosen up their swing. There is no better feeling than opening up your angles and know that the friction will cause this ball to ignite off the spot. Trust that this ball will be more continuous than anything you have ever thrown. In the past, when I got left of 4th arrow, I would risk carrying because of continuation being not all there. This ball seems to never stop turning left. Once it goes, it GOES! The ball is so clean that I can stay behind it and play much straighter than normal thanks to its versatility. I drilled mine with the pin above my ring finger with a small weight hole. This is a ball that seems to find a place in anyone’s bag and will for a long time. Congrats to MOTIV for creating another gem. William Leto MOTIV Amateur Staff Member www.motivbowling.com

More total hook, more angularity, and its own identity. Very unique and different in relation to the rest of our line up. I drilled one to match my Tribal (50 x 4 x 30, hole 4" left, 1" down) that stands up a bit quicker, but still has that stand up and curve off the spot down lane. I can play a good zone or two right of my Tribal. The other one I drilled is the same as my favorite red ball, 50 x 5 x 30. I like this drilling a lot when I move in and bounce it off the gutter or throw to a hook spot down lane. The Primal Rage is good from a zone left of wherever I am with my Octane. The Octane has a similar shape as the red ball. But I can say with confidence that it is more overall hook, and more angle down lane. Right handers will fall in love with this marble because of the angles they play so often. You can get into 5th arrow and probably deeper quite easily with this ball. It will recover. I also feel it is an asset for the straighter players who need a cleaner piece than some of their other equipment. A ball down if you will. I have only thrown my Octane on one flatter pattern so far. WTBA Mexico City (45') I was able to play with my eyes looking 22-23 and playing a fall back shot to the 1-2 pocket. It would face up just enough out of the pattern to go through the pins correctly. I think with the right drilling, this ball could have looked even better. I honestly haven't really touched the cover at all on mine. I just lightly cracked them with 4000 grit. For how I intend to use this ball, it doesn't make sense to use surface. It's an arsenal piece for me and something that I will use quite often later on in the blocks of tournaments. It will also see plenty of action on the THS I bowl on. When I start to see laziness down lane and have trouble cutting the 7 pin out, I can switch to the Octane and know it will create the necessary angle to carry. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tA3awUT7z1w&list=UUWNlQhKlVxh-XjpI40E-tpw

Review: The Motiv Octane is the latest release from Motiv bowling. The Octane combines a proven core and a brand new cover that gives a backend motion like you have never seen. The Octane features Motiv’s proven Ouadfire core that provides a 2.55 RG that gives the Octane easy length down the lane and pair that with the brand new hybrid Agility SFX (Skid Flip Xtreme) that gives that Octane incredible length and strong backend motion, the Octane backend striking machine. INNER CORE – Quadfire COVERSTOCK – Agility SFX FINISH – 5000 Grit Laser Scan Polished Comments: To start on this piece is how amazing and strong this ball is on medium oil. I was huge fan of the Thrash Frenzy because I loved the length and the strong angular motion that it gave me and had many award scores on that piece. I was sadden when I was told that the Thrash Frenzy was discontinued but was promised had sadness would be short lived and boy were they right. The Octane is one of the biggest backend and angular pieces I have thrown to date. Like the Frenzy, the Octane gets my pout of trouble when I need a little more on the backend and the continuation is just insane like all the other Motiv bowling balls. Lower rev rate guys will love the length the Octane will get and will still get that strong angular motion at the backend and just destroy the pins. Medium to higher rev rate players the Octane will fill a definite need in their bag as the Octane’s agualr motion and steep angle to the pocket will have them play lines not a lot people are at. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1O_ZfjeUS0Q I recommend the Octane to all types of bowlers. OCTANE!!!!! My definition of Octane is now- Length, angularity and power. This ball is completely off the charts NASTY!!! This ball shows an incredible ability to get through the front part of the lane and the most angular back end motion to date from Motiv. From the average league bowler to the top professional bowlers in the world this piece offers something for everyone. The ball is initially rated for Medium oil patterns but performs well on med-heavy and med-light oil patterns as well. This monster will allow even some of the rev challenged players to get in deeper with the big boys. What I liked most is what it provided me on the med-light oil patterns that I bowled on in the PBA Sr masters event on the burn and double burn. The Octanes length and smoothness through the front end of the pattern allowed me to continue to use it with only minimal adjustment. I was able to stay a bit more right away ( 20-18 at the arrows) versus having to get in deeper with everyone else and deal with a major transition. The key was the room right this ball creates with its ability to come back hard and strong from the friction right!!!! An just like every release Motiv has put out over the past few years this ball is CONTINUOUS though the pins retaining its energy for the right place at the right time!! Get this ball and your game will never be the same!! Rick Zakrajsek MOTIV STAFF www.motivbowling.com

Ball Specs: Motiv Octane Polished Reactive 5000 LSP Ball Specs: Symmetric Core Layout 75 x 3 x 40 Bowler Specs: Right Hand. PAP 5 Over 3/4 up Rev Rate 275. Tilt 20. Rotation 50. Speed off hand 18 Review: The New Motiv Octane has a great balance of length and flip. It fills the need for a ball that is longer than the Rage but can turn the corner harder. The Octane for me, hooks slightly less than the Rage but more than the Apex. The ball has great shelf appeal and the blend of purple, black and grey get a lot of attention. The Octane gets easy length through the front even as it is revving up. The combination of core and cover does not seem to have any over/under problems. The backend motion of the Octane allows it to create angle when it sees friction. The entry angle allows for deeper lines with good carry. This ball digs the corner pins out nicely. I let a few thumbless bowlers try my Octane and the reaction was amazing! These bowlers got easy length with a devastating hit. I think high rev bowlers or slower speeds with have a winner with the Octane. I tested the Octane on a pretty fresh flat pattern for the video, but it was more at home when the lanes started to break down. The ball played either pattern well and the carry was great. I have played with the surface and it tunes easily up or down. Motiv has really been pushing the envelope of performance and the balls keep getting better and better and seem to hit harder and harder. Motiv has had some awesome success on T.V. and the Regional Tours. As I go to tournaments around the South East I am seeing more and more Motiv balls on the ball returns. If you have not tried Motiv yet I suggest you do so you won’t be left behind. Quoting a good friend and center Manger, “If you didn’t bring a Motiv tonight, you better get one drilled so you can compete!” Summary: The Octane gets easy length and hard backend This is another sweet looking ball. The higher entry angle creates great pin carry. If you want an angular ball, you got it! What we have is a medium oil machine that is fueled for an explosive backend motion known as the Octane. The hybrid black and purple pearl cover on the Octane is the new Agility SFX (Skid Flip Xtreme) Reactive formulation. This new technology provides outstanding length and an absolutely explosive backend reaction. Factory finish is 5000 Grit LSP (Laser Scan Polished) Out of box surface: 5000 Polished Reaction: The Octane clears the heads better than any Motiv ball I have ever thrown and this is because of the 5000 grit laser scan polished cover, the cover provides a lot of power when it encounters the friction. In the oil the Octane will skid nothing like you’ve ever seen and when it encounters the friction it will hook, with gusto and vigor. Conditions THS (40 feet): On THS I starting out playing far left standing ten from the left targeting ten to the right, it was a lot of fun watching this ball skid flip and roll the pins with authority. In the later stages of the night the Octane showed me what it could do when the friction increased, standing five from the left targeting ten to the right there was no quit in this ball. This is a fun ball to throw. Nationals Singles Pattern (38 feet): With so much free hook on this pattern the Octane made this ball look like a house shot, the cover really got this ball to the promise land as it was clean through the heads and the midlane. On other patterns this ball will allow me to play deeper angles with confidence knowing the ball will corner and recover. Summary: The Octane is currently Motiv’s most responsive piece to friction to date, the cover/core combo is phenomenal the cornering is to be marveled. In the event that my Primal Rage is too much and my Tribal is not enough, the Octane will definitely be in my hands as it should be in yours. If you enjoy the ball motion of skid flip, I promise this is the ball you’re looking for. Let the fumes go to your head this time, I promise it’s safe. K.C.White II MOTIV Staff www.motivbowling.com

The Octane is one special ball! A new hybrid cover wrapped around the tried and true Quadfire core (previously featured in the Q & Thrash series balls). The Octane has the fastest response to friction of any ball that I’ve thrown. What does this mean? I can move deeper with more confidence than ever before. It is designed for Medium oil, but for my game I use it most often when I need to chase the oil line on longer sport patterns at the end of the block. When there is friction out on the lane, this ball has some of the best hook potential of any ball I’ve got, all on the back end. If you are looking for a ball on short oil patterns, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this piece. It will see that friction and jump… after all – that’s what it’s designed to do! You’d want to look for a ball that is smoother off the spot. But, when the conditions are right – the Octane is the difference maker… the ball that makes it look like I have the whole lane, when everyone else is struggling. In essence, think of it this way – when the Octane sees oil, it skids – a lot. When it sees friction, it hooks – a lot. There are times when any competitive bowler needs an Octane. Or if you just bowl league and you like to see that skid/flip shape, this ball is just what you’re looking for. --Kevin Gallagher— PBA Member MOTIV Staff

Octane - 40 X 4.5 X 45 Description: The Octane uses the same Quadfire core as the previous Thrash series and older QZ series, but with the brand new Agility SFX coverstock. The addition of the Octane has filled MOTIV’s slot for an angular, medium oil ball. Since the release of the Primal Rage MOTIV has released several pieces that have angular motions…Well the Octane provides plenty of length, continuation, and significantly more backend than previously releases. Reaction: The Octane’s core/box cover combination is ideal for moderate to lighter volumes. I feel like I can stay very aggressive with the Octane and still maintain the shape downlane. On the easier conditions I have thrown on so far the ball really helps me open up my launch angles, I am one that usually keeps them very tight on most patterns. This ball is going to work on a lot of different patterns, especially if you hear what I have to say about the surface adjustment I made and watch the difference for yourself in my video. I personally found the Octane even better with the cover adjusted to 3K Abralon. After adjusting the surface to 3K I found that it allowed me to get further in on the pattern (Obviously) but also just as continuous making the ball overall just stronger. You can see in my video that the 3K cover on the Octane allowed me to get in even deeper than I was with the Primal Rage. I haven’t tested it with more surface than 3K, but I can only imagine that this ball can be thrown on some heavier patterns with surface and still open it up downlane. Comparisons: I compared the Octane to 3 balls in my video, but I didn’t compare it to the Sigma Sting due to time restraints in the video, so let’s start there. The Octane provided me with more length than the Sigma Sting, but also provided more backend. Because of the more aggressive motion off of the friction I was actually required to play deeper, but the overall amount of hook they provide is very similar. Comparing the Octane to the Primal Rage I noticed that the Primal Rage forces me deeper due to the earlier core, but I’d also have to say that the new cover on the Octane makes it more angular than the Primal Rage. Next, the Tribal required me to square up compared to the Octane, making the Tribal similar in length and but less angular downlane. Last, the Venom Shock was noticeably different. The Venom Shock started up much sooner and is much stronger midlane, with a very subtle change in direction downlane compared to the Octane. Summary: This is truly an improvement once again to an existing core. This is an important ball for me as a power tweener. I often find myself not being able to get in as deep as the power players, but the shape of this piece helps me get closer, with the necessary length and more backend than I have ever seen in a ball. Layout: 50 x 5 x 35 If you want some premium grade performance to fuel your scores, look no further than the Motiv Octane. Wrapping the reliable Quadfire core (2.55 RG, .043 Diff) in the brand new Agility SFX reactive hybrid cover (finished at the new 5000-grit LSP) brings a new dynamic not previously seen in the Motiv line up. While it is technically listed as a hybrid, I believe you will find that it reacts much more like a pearl once it gets to the breakpoint; to say this ball gives easy length and an explosive backend reaction would be a tame way to describe it. On a fresh house shot the Octane glided down the lane and released an astonishing backend motion which continued all the way through to the pit; I was frequently taking out the 8-pin with the ball. It was strong enough to throw on the fresh but clean enough for me to continue to get left with it as the lanes were breaking down. When I threw this ball in Reno during my singles event it was turning heads with its corner-turning ability. At one point I was laying the ball down on 38 and could hit as far right as 6 at the breakpoint and this ball still came back with an attitude. I believe that the ball motion the Octane provides will not only look good on the lanes as a skid-flip reaction but will also help many bowlers create angles that are more advantageous for carry. The Octane, wow is the first thing I said when I threw this ball. If you are looking for a ball that is long and strong, the Octane is the one. The Quadfire core (2.55RG) and the all new hybrid Agility Skid Flip Xtreme cover (.043 diff) provide length and a smooth but strong transition to the backend. My Octane is drilled 65X5X65 which put the pin below my ring finger and I have a low weight hole. The Octane is super clean through the front due to 5000 grit laser scan polished cover but provides plenty of traction when the ball sees the dry part of the lane. I have thrown the Octane mainly on THS and the pin down layout for me has allowed me to play down and in with amazing carry through the pins. I will be drilling another. I believe this ball will give me the recovery I need when I play deeper angles to the pocket in regionals. In summary, the Octane is by far the strongest/fastest reacting MOTIV ball I have ever thrown. The Primal Rage will handle more oil but when it is too much, the Octane will fit nicely right behind it. The black and purple color combo is sharp looking also. Rev up your game with the Octane!!! The Bowler: Motiv Staffer Dustin J. Markowitz The Ball: Motiv Octane The Weight: 15 lbs, 3oz The Drill Layout: 75* X 5" X 35* The Static Weight: 1/4 Side, 1/8th Finger The Style: Power Stroker (Speed and Revs Untested since shoulder injury.) The House: Riverside Lanes in Laughlin, Nevada The Condition: 39‘ THS and Kegel Easy Street The Quadfire is back baby! For anyone that has read my reviews or watched my game, they would know that I am a very big fan of the Quadfire core and in fact still have a blue QZ2 in my tournament bag. I was such a big fan of this core that when the Thrash Frenzy came out over one year ago, it quickly became not only my benchmark ball from the company but ranked as one of the top three balls I have thrown in my entire life. It stayed as my go to ball until the release of the Sigma Sting and only stopped being my benchmark because of the house shot change in my home center. Needless to say, the Octane was a ball I was very excited to throw. So how does the ball stack up? Many of the other staffers have done some very good comparisons with the modern Motiv line but I wanted to try something different. I put the same pin up layout on my Octane as I have used in my Frenzy and Blue QZ2 and decided to do a little compare and contrast between the three. Now these are not out of the box punched Frenzies or QZ2s but rather two I have thrown for well over a couple hundred games with a baked out oil job and resurface on each. However, they still have life and move very closely to how they were out of the box. In fact, almost shockingly so. I also want to note that this review is based on my opinions and observations and is not designed to try and be a blanket statement of how these balls react for everyone. My job is to show you how they compare with my game and not to try and say how these are the best balls ever made. ... I mean they are the best balls ever made but..... ONTO THE REVIEW I had a chance to throw the three on two different lane patterns, the Riverside Lanes House Shot and the Kegel Easy Street. The House Shot is a 39 ft block with a bit heavier mil than the Kegel pattern and is designed for hold on the high friction environment in Laughlin. A combination of outside heat, humidity from the Colorado River and the first floor valet lights under the 2nd floor bowling center causes oil to breakdown in some bizarre fashions so it is crucial to stay ahead of the changes. I started in with the House Shot first and was immediately surprised by the difference in breakpoint between the three balls. The QZ2 had the earliest read out of the three, making the first movement and losing some of the momentum as it pushed down the lane. I found myself having to square up very quickly and push right in order to get the carry down lane. The Frenzy was quite a bit better with a slightly later move but a much more angular attack and retention of power. The Octane pushed the furthest of the three and when it smelled the dry it made a left turn. It was easily the most angular attack I have seen from anything in the series and hit like a train. I ended up about three boards deeper with my feet and the same mark as the Frenzy and just was awestruck at the way it came back from the dry like a bat out of hell. Easily, the Octane won the first battle of the balls. The Easy Street pattern was a bit more of a struggle as the wide open outsides gave a little area than I would of liked for the Octane. I ran into the problem of too much ball on this condition and had to really keep pushing left in order to keep the ball on the right side of the head pin. The Frenzy rolled well although I started to see the same problem as we kept pushing down lane. The winner of this battle was my battle scarred QZ2 which kept the line and did not overreact whatsoever. My final thoughts on this ball is that it is a killer for a standard house shot, a heavy short oil pattern or something that requires the ball getting down the lane before making a radical jump. In comparison to my Frenzy I would say that it is a step above in ball motion and reads the shift in conditions very well. I will be definitely throwing this ball on a regular basis and would highly consider this on just about any wet/dry pattern. The Quadfire core wins again and I for one am pleased to have the Octane in my hand. Get Motivated and get yours today!!!
