This ball is the newest introduction into the MOTIV line of bowling balls. The MOTIV Freestyle features the new Turmoil LFP (Low Friction Pearl) cover combined with the Recon core . It's very clean through the lane, therefore it retains it's energy and makes a great move on the backend. Most importantly, it allows a more consistent transition that reduces over/under issues on light oil. It will be a great fit in your bag on light oil. The Freestyle will be the ball you can count on when the lane are hooking and nothing else will go down the lane. This ball will give much more then any other ball you will find at this very affordable price. My Freestyle is laid out with the pin down (below the ring), the cg shifted right and an extra hole about 2" below my PAP. This ball has already found a place in my bag, it's a great go to ball when the lanes are just flat hooking. The ball is very useful on short oil patterns or older surfaces. If you need a ball at a great price point for short and hooking patterns this is the ball you are looking for. Craig Auerbach MOTIV Staff Member Florida

Review: The Motiv Freestyle is the latest light oil, entry level bowling from Motiv Bowling that brings together a new coverstock with a proven core. The new Freestyle gives the bowlers two color combinations that both complement one another and are quite eye popping in Pink/Black and Blue/Black. The Freestyle brings in the proven Recon core and we put the new Turmoil LFP peal coverstock. This combo makes gives the Freestyle retainable energy on light oil conditions and being entry level still have enough aggressiveness downlane and through the pins. If your looking for something for light oil and will take away the over/under issues then the Freestyle by Motiv is the ball for you. INNER CORE Recon COVERSTOCK Turmoil LFP Reactive FINISH 5500 Grit LSP Comments: Not too long ago I did a Facebook live practice session and one of the pieces I was throwing was the Freestyle. I’m absolutely in love with this piece. With the Ascents, I felt there was something missing with over/under issue I got when bowling in league and the Freestyle eliminates that issue. I love everything about the Freestyle and this is the go to ball on house shot for me because I play more right and stay there all night without fighting transition. And for entry level the Freestyle hits like a truck which is just another trademark for Motiv. Medium to High Rev players will love this piece because the can play straighter without losing power and lower rev players will like the freestyle when lanes start hooking and you don’t want to move out of their comfort zone. I recommend the Motiv Freestyle to all types of bowlers. MOTIV Staff Player, John Robertson www.motivbowling.com

The Freestyle is the latest offering from MOTIV bowling designed for high friction lane conditions. While utilizing the same Recon core found in the Ascent line of bowling balls, what sets the Freestyle apart from the Ascent is the Turmoil Low Friction Prearl (LFP) cover stock. The LFP cover creates less friction of the ball to the lane surface thus retaining more energy which creates a better continuation through the pins. What that translates to is a ball designed for dry lanes conserves energy and has the same carry power as the higher end equipment. My Freestyle is drilled pin above ring finger with cg kicked about 2 inches with a hole on my axis. The Ascents were good, the Freestyle is much better. I have thrown the Freestyle on cheetah pattern with success and it is also very good on wet/dry league shots. Being over the age of 50, I very seldom have the need to throw low end bowling balls because generating enough revs to get them to carry is not my strong suit. The Freestyle provides the recovery I need on drier conditions. Available in blue/black or pink/black colors, you will definitely need a Freestyle in your bag as this ball will suit many bowling styles.

Freestyle If you have been waiting for a lower cost piece for dry lane conditions that provides high performance the Freestyle is for you. What a great addition to the line up as it fits right behind the Tag for me. Very good length with recovery not seen in most lower level balls. Great for house shots for older bowlers with lower ball speeds as well as high rev players looking for something to give them length. As usual the continuation of the Motiv line of balls is unprecedented. The two color options not only look great but seem to provide a slightly different reaction as well. For me the Pink color cover seemed to be a bit steeper on the back end while the blue cover seemed to be a bit more controlled. Both balls performed at a higher level than what I originally expected. Either way this ball is quite a nice addition to the Motiv line of equipment and the price point makes it an attractive addition for all levels of bowler.

I drilled my Freestyle 75 X 4.5 X 40.. I was not sure what to expect with this ball as a replacement for the Ascent. I have my original Ascent drilled RICO for total control and when the lanes are totally torched or needing to control the edge on short patterns. So with that being said I drilled the Freestyle to use what this ball was made for. Get the ball down the lane and control the back part of the lane and still hit. What I have found so far with the Freestyle is exactly that plus more. I wasn't sure how strong this ball was going to be down lane and I am pleasantly surprised. The Freestyle goes through the front part of lane with the greatest of easy, reads the middle part really clean and unleashes a hard curve. This motion I would not consider Skid Snap or Controlled. I would consider this more a Controlled hard Motion, if that makes sense? I have used this ball on a short pattern off the gutter and also on a 42' medium volume pattern after many games of bowling. What the Freestyle has allowed me to do is use the controlled hard motion to go through the pins the right way. The way the ball goes through the pins is better than I would expect for a small core, value ball. This ball is truly going to come in handy when the lanes are totally gone and I will need a ball to go over the gutter cap late in the day and still have the motion to go through the pins with the deep inside angle. If you are a tournament player or new to the game this ball is going to find a way to fit into your bag. #SHOWOFF Clayton Mohr Motiv Staff

Layout: MoTion Hole drilling for 5”+ PAP Prepare to #showoff when the lanes get dry with the Motiv Freestlye. Coming in either a Blue/Black or Pink/Black color scheme, this gem will give you the ability to attack those later day conditions with ease. By wrapping the proven Recon core (2.59RG, .025Diff) in the all new Turmoil LFP Reactive coverstock, we have a ball dedicated to gliding through the dry without sacrificing any power through the pins. I drilled mine with the MoTion hole as I wanted to crush the core a little bit thereby creating more revving action which my medium rev-rate would appreciate; I am not disappointed. I could immediately tell that this ball is a great successor to the Ascent line as it still provides the length needed on drier condition yet has an enhanced downlane reaction thanks to the new coverstock. While not flippy the motion at the spot is more pronounced than my Ascents and the hitting power is just as impressive. I was able to go straight up outside of seven when other people on my pair were struggling with similar equipment inside of ten. This ball compliments my arsenal well due to its unparalleled length, a nice step down from the Venom line. Oil is not this ball’s friend so remember that friction is needed in order to get the optimal designed performance out of it. Dry lanes, scorched heads? Historically I have had a lot of success with the Recon core, so I was excited to hear that MOTIV was using the Recon core again! The Freestyle is the new light oil ball from MOTIV that is available in two colors. It has a lower price point than most reactive resin balls, but don’t let that fool you into thinking that this isn’t a quality addition to your bag. This ball is great for those with lower ball speeds that have a problem with more aggressive equipment, or for high rev-rate bowlers that bowl in houses that don’t put out a lot of oil. I am a right handed “No Thumb” bowler with a 400 rev-rate and a ball speed of approximately 17mph. On a house shot the Freestyle allows me to 3 to 5 boards further right than my Octane Burn, for example. with a very controllable back end move. Here is the ball reaction video that I did for the Freestyle. In the video I compare the ball reaction to MOTIV’s Rebel Tank, Venom Cobra, Paranoia & Revolt Havoc on Kegel’s Bourbon Street Pattern. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mg1JwO-jC1I The Freestlye cover-stock has a milder reaction than any other reactive ball that I currently have.. which is just the ticket on short sport shot patterns. This really helps blend out the back part of the lane for me. The Freestyle is the perfect ball that bridges the gap between my Rebel Tank Urethane ball, and the rest of my arsenal – I highly recommend it! --Kevin Gallagher— PBA Member MOTIV Staff

DESCRIPTION INNER CORE - Recon™ COVERSTOCK - Turmoil™ LFP Reactive FINISH - 5500 Grit Laser Scan Polished RG RATING - 2.59 (15 lbs) RG DIFFERENTIAL - 0.25 (15 lbs) FLARE POTENTIAL - 2"+ REACTION The Freestyle has a brand new coverstock (Turmoil™) which is designed for light oil. The cover generates minimal friction which allows the ball to get down lane with ease while providing continuation through the pins. Most entry level balls I have thrown are weak and and forward off the spot. The Freestyle goes through the pins much better than other entry level balls I have thrown. VIDEO https://youtu.be/ftjk5CQt2O8 COMPARISONS The balls I chose to compare the Freestyle to were the Ascent Apex, Venom Cobra, and Venom Shock. While both the shocks were easily stronger in total overall hook, what I found most interesting was the comparison with the Apex. Both the Freestyle and Ascent Apex have the same core. What sets them significantly apart is the difference in coverstock. When the Apex reacts, it goes forward off the spot. What this meant for me was a lot of weak 10 pins and the occasional 5 pin ( I know ha ha). Conversely, the Freestyle is continuous off the spot. Where the Apex would deflect into the right side of the 9-pin, the Freestyle would drive through the deck splitting the 8-9. (Check out the video for an example) https://youtu.be/H-NamAskAmk SUMMARY When it comes to entry level equipment, our default setting is to expect less. In regards to the Freestyle, it isn't the case. You get premium performance for an entry level price. If you are at a tour event and watching Motiv staffers late in blocks when the lanes have transitioned, a lot of them throw Graffiti Tag's. I rarely saw any of our staffers throwing Ascents or Apex's late in blocks. I strongly believe the Freestyle will be used much more frequently than it's predecessor. This ball is a worthy successor to represent Motiv's entry level spot and is another step up in performance. Motiv Staff Member Doug Anderson

Ball Specs: Motiv Freestyle Turmoil Low Friction Pearl Reactive 5500 Grit LSP Symmetrical Core Layout 55 x 4 x 75 with Balance Hole Bowler Specs: Right Hand. PAP 5 Over 1/2 Up Rev Rate 275. Tilt 20. Rotation 50. Speed off hand 18 Review: The Freestyle is a new entry in the Light Oil category for Motiv. The Freestyle uses the same core as the Apex but then wraps it in an earlier and more controllable cover. The Freestyle is a very interesting ball that I am enjoying experimenting with. I drilled the Blue one first, Pin Down strong with a balance hole and then sanded it to 2000. This produced more hook than my box surface, weaker layout Burn with a great read on the lane for a weaker core ball. The hit was also better than expected. The Freestyle acts like a higher priced ball and I really hate to call this an entry level reactive. The Freestyle may have a weak core but it has a strong hit. A bowler can purchase the Freestyle as an entry level ball and get much more than they paid for. I have used my Apex balls quite a bit at tournaments when the lanes are dry but never considered taking one to every tournament. The sanded Freestyle may change my mind on that. I really like this Blue Freestyle! I can even play inside with it. I then drilled up the Pink and Black Freestyle. The color is not hot pink but kind of a red pink. But I digress. I left the Pink Freestyle at box surface and put the CG in the center of grip and the pin up around 1:00. I am a right hander. The Freestyle rolled a little earlier than my Apex with a similar layout and was slower on the back end. The ball hit good but was not different enough from my Apex so I think I will start some surface adjustments next week. I have had too much tournament success with my Apex to change the surface on that one. I was able to use the Pink Freestyle up the 10 board with good success on a medium condition. Summary: The Freestyle is a very versatile dry lane ball. The cover takes adjustments easily. A great dry lane tournament choice. Two nice color combinations available. Motiv’s newest ball release, Freestyle, lands in their light oil line on the ball chart. For me, light oil balls can be tricky because you need them “weak” enough to get length on high friction surfaces but strong enough to create the backend reaction needed to carry out all 10 pins. What Motiv did was to combined proven technology with the Recon core and added the new Turmoil LFP cover (low friction pearl) to have enough aggressiveness on the back part of the lane to carry. This combination really does create a much more consistent transition and reduces that over/under feeling you can get with most light oil balls. Another bonus for this outstanding ball is the price point as it gives all styles of bowlers looking for that less aggressive bowling ball an option for getting the length needed and an aggressive cover to knock all 10 pins down. The freestyle is a new entry level ball in the Motiv Lineup. Compared to the Ascent lineup, the coverstock on the freestyle is much stronger thus creating a higher hook potential on those drier lane conditions as well as more continuation. For me, the Freestyle rolls similar to a Forza with less traction. For those tournament bowlers, the Freestyle will be great on patterns under 38 feet or PBA patterns such as Cheetah or Wolf. For the league bowlers, the freestlye will be great for alleys with older lane surfaces or patterns that are very dry. Adam Chase Motiv Staff

YouTube Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2oRRyEsEDU Description: The Freestyle is MOTIV’s newest release in the entry level category. In fact it will be replacing the long lasting Ascent and Ascent Apex line. It will utilize the proven Recon Core, but with the new Turmoil LFP (Low Friction Pearl) Coverstock. This Turmoil Cover is a modified version of the same coverstock used on the famous Venom Shock. You also have two choices in color, pink & black or blue & black. Reaction: The Freestyle will be in play when you want a ball that can get down the lane and never have to worry about it reading too early. As far as shape goes, it’s very controllable and although it’s very continuous it never changes directions too fast, which makes it ideal on patterns that just flat out hook. In my first few sessions I tried using it in league on a typical house shot and I was surprised how straight I was able to play in the track area, but was even more impressed that the ball still got through the pins very well. Although it does fit in the entry level category, remember it uses a modified cover of the Venom Shock. Giving it a stronger layout or just adding a little surface can make this ball more useable than just on drier conditions too. So far a little surface on my pin down one has made it a very good option on league conditions. Comparisons: To give you some comparisons the Graffiti Tag is overall stronger and also responds to friction much faster. When the Tag is just too much ball or just too strong down lane the Freestyle is an ideal fit. Now compared to the Ascent Apex the Freestyle is a little longer, but not much, and isn’t quite as even throughout the lane. The Freestyle provides better continuation than the Ascent Apex, but in terms of total hook they are very close. I think the Freestyle is an upgraded version of the Ascent or Ascent Apex line. Once again, because of the similar cover that it shares with the Venom Shock, this will be a nice piece for when a Venom Shock is too strong as they have similar overall motions. Summary: I would recommend the Freestyle to anyone who is looking to purchase a quality ball at a very affordable price. An entry level ball is an important utility piece to have and you’ll never know when you need it. Mike Magolan MOTIV | Turbo | Boom Apparel | Genesis Staff Member
