Hammer Black Widow Solid Bowling Ball

(203 reviews) Write a Review
The Hammer Black Widow has been designed to give the bowler more length and more angle at the breakpoint than any Hammer ball to date. The Black Widow features the Gas Mask core with added flip block and Hammer's new Violent Reactive coverstock to produce excellent length, strong backend and enhanced drilling versatility for a variety of bowling styles. The Engine: The Black Widow features the asymmetric Gas Mask core design with added flip block providing a High Mass Bias rating of .014. By desigining the core shape to be a High Mass Bias ball, the Black Widow will produce strong hook motion with aggressive backend. The Tiires: Hammer's Violent Reactive coverstock will give the bowler more length and stronger move on the backend. Combining the Gas Mask core shape with added flip block and the Violent Reactive coverstock produces a strong and aggressive movement at the breakpoint. Featuring the High Mass Bias Gas Mask core with flip block and Violent Reactive coverstock, the Black Widow goes long and attacks violently on the backend. There's no lane condition out there that's safe. 16# 15# 14# 13# 12# RG DIFF RG DIFF RG DIFF RG DIFF RG DIFF 2.51 .049 2.50 .060 2.49 .057 2.53 .055 2.60 .039 Mass Bias Rating High

Amazing ball, have thrown many big scores with it, recently posted 834. ball hit pins harder than any ball i have ever thrown. very versitile ball can play all over the alley, down and in, way deep, just an amazing overall ball. Havent extracted any oil from it but it still hits great, what would be the best way to get the oil out of it? might just buy another one and have a different layout put on it. i clean it with spray cleaner before every use but i see these review of balls just dying on them...this ball still has alot of life in it with over 150 games on it

I have approximately 100 games on my Hammer Black Widow solid (BWS) and this ball helped raise my average almost 8 pins during the 06-07 winter league. Drilled 5x5 with pin over fingers the ball gives decent length with a very aggressive back end reaction. The ball needs some friction with this drilling but my house shot is shorter than most. A very hard hitting ball with superior carry. The ball is sensitive to speed especially when the lanes dry up. Not a dry lane ball out of the box. 2000 Abralon with Factory Finish polish is much better for a shorter pattern. I would rate this ball a 10 if it was not for the amount of maintenance required by the cover stock. My BWS died on me around the 50 game mark. I then learned you must clean this ball after each use and extract the oil from the cover stock every 40-50 games or it will dramatically lose it's reaction resulting in less carry. So I've extracted the oil twice using the "bucket technique". I also clean and use 4000 abral

was a ebonite man until now. thought the One was great, wow this ball is awsome. once u get on line it won't let u down. every1 should have 1. will keep my equipment upgraded. going 2 get the pearl, the plastic black widow, n the bite. will have all 4. n will get another one of each. will have everything black widow in my bag soon!! very versitile ball for me. only use 2fingers n able 2 use it more where other people can't. dries up n i can get deeper inside n it really tears up the pocket. it like radar no matter where i get it right it flips back 2 the 1-3 pocket.

im a younger bowler, 16, but i carry 195+ average so i still know whats going on. i throw the ball fairly hard, and when i throw my normal speed with this ball it just skids and does nothing. if im not sure about the lanes this HAS to be the first ball out of my bag, or else i wont be able to throw it when i need to as i can throw my other balls hard and get the usual hook. switching to this ball is a big no no, unless there was a long break between games

I also have 3 friends at my bowling alley that have this ball and the same thing is happening to them. It just dies out after about a year and will not hook again. We have tried all kinds of things to help it but no luck. It makes me really mad knowing that I have to get a new ball this fast, so overall it is not worth buying if you ask me unless you only want it for a year, get a morich ball or something instead. I should have listened to other peoples reviews about this ball before I got it but I guess i learned my lesson.

If you need a ball that will bring you to the next level in bowling, this ball is where it is at! This is the best all around ball on the market. extremely predictable. In the past 3 weeks I have broken my high game record three times! If you need a ball that will bring you to the next level in bowling, this ball is where it is at! Not a damn thing. I Since I got it my average has gone up 22 pins!!! I rolled a 668 series last night with it. 203, 218, 247. In the past 3 weeks I have broken my high game record three times! By the way, this the only ball I own.

This is the ball that reinvented hammer, as one the leading bowling ball makers on the market, since they were bought in 2001 by EBONITE. Glad to see they also started a trend in using old bowling ball cores with the newer advanced reactive and particle coverstocks used today. Purchased this ball to get more movement than my Brunswick Punisher. Had the ball drilled to go long and snap at the back end. I got what I wanted. I could play this ball far out to the one when then lanes were wet, or bring it deeper inside and swing it out when they dried up. When I first got the ball I was a 165-170 average bowler on a typical house shot. Got the ball Christmas of '06.. by end of winter league my average was 186. The ball does require alot of cleaning. I have found the ball is really consistant if deep cleaned every 20-25 games, and atleast wiped off with Ebonite Powerhouse cleaner and revitalized after every league night/tournament. Overall I am pleased with this ball.

THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE BALLS THAT HAS BEEN REALEASED IN THE PAST 5 YEARS. I LOVE THIS BALL IT GOES LONG AND FLIPS NICE ON THE BACKEND. THIS BALL DOESN'T LIKE LOTS OF OIL ON THE BACK IF ITS POLISHED BUT IF YOU SCRUFF IT UP TO A 2000 GRIT ITS AMAZING AND DOES A SNAPP ARC ON THE BACK END. I GOT MINE LAST EASTER AND I CLEAN IT WITH POWERFUL ACETONE CLEANERS AND THIS BALL STILL HAS NOT TRACKED OUT!! HOOKS LIKE IT DID WHEN IT WAS NEW BUT NOW IT HAS LOST ITS 4000 GRIT AND IS LIKE MID POLISHED FROM THE LANE OILS. THIS BALL ALSO NOW HOLDS MY NEW HIGH SERIES OR A 762 WITH NO 300 BUT STILL THE BALL WAS CLEAN THRU THE HEADS AND I HATE WHEN PEOPLE COMPLAIN IT DIES TO FAST....PEOPLE DONT BE LAZY TAKE CARE OF YOUR HIGHLY ABSORBING BAOWLING BALLS<s

I have not used very many different balls so any feedback on this review would be appreciated. My first ball was a Columbia Scout, second was a Brunswick Wizard, and now I have two Black Widows with different drillings and finishes on each. Out of the box the Black widow is far and away the best ball Ive thrown. It glides straight and seems to find the pocket at the last second even if you miss your target. Truly amazing. Almost like it has a computer chip inside it telling it when to make its break for the pocket. But after just 15 to 20 games it loses its bite. After 50 games you might as well be rolling a plastic ball because it won't hook. I dulled the surface down to a 1000 grit wet sand and it helped some but it created a mid lane read instead of the desired back end snap that it is known for. So I have resulted to baking the Black Widows about every two weeks. One hour per ball in a warm oven wiping off the oil every 15 minutes or so and they are back to new.... .....fo

The ball has a good reaction on the lane. On fresh lanes the ball has a good arc to the pocket. But if the lanes become dry, the Black Widow is the wrong ball, it reacts to soon and has no power in the pocket. Also the ball has no problems with carry down. I changed my target (from the 4th to the 3 arrow) and the ball still has the arc and the power to bring all pins down. All in all I think that this ball is good on medium-heavy oil, but when the lanes become dry it has the action of a swam.
