Ebonite Optyx Illusion Bowling Ball

The Illusion name was chosen because of the unique colorization process. Using ChromaFlair™, a patented multi-layer pigment that produces rich colors that reflect a different color depending on the viewing angle. The ChromaFlair-type of pigment is widely used in the automotive paint field. The flip-flop color phenomenon seen in these light-interference pigments is caused by the presence of incredibly thin, micro-layered structures that reflect different wavelengths of visible light depending on the angle at which they are viewed, and their position relative to the light source. Unlike ordinary pigments, ChromaFlair pigment is opaque, thin, flat, and highly specular (mirror-like). The ChromaFlair pigment is considered a particle. It is constructed of multi-layers of aluminum and silica particles. ChromaFlair pigment is neither mica nor an aluminum flake. ChromaFlair’s multi-layer construction is composed of pigment flakes approximately 1 micron thick. Unlike mica and silica particles

May be my favorite ball, never over-reacts and loves to play up the gutter. Hits hard and carries quite well. I love the way this ball arcs to the pocket, there is not much snap at all, just smooth the whole way down the lane. Doesn't carry well at all with much oil on the lanes though, but then again, it wasn't intended too. But put it on its intended condition, and it's the best ball i've seen on the dry. This balls biggest problem is carrydown. Once the oil has carried down, it starts to leave ten pins. But usually a slight adjustment will fix that. All 'n all, a great ball from Ebonite

this thing is scared of the pocket. it gets their and just dies. the ball has great mid lane reaction and its clean through the heads but then its a big piece of shit. i tried to adjust and it was the same thing. if you are more of a cranker you might like it but for a power stroker dont go near the piece of shit. it hates any presence of oil. i will have to admit it looks good for the first 45 feet. and the color the should put it on a ball that works. thats all i have to say about tha

I actually bought this ball for medium conditions, what I got was a ball that is ideal for second shift. I drilled it up 4 1/2" pin, bomb in the strong position. Finish was out of the box polished. This ball clears the heads, even with minimum oil, and has very good backend. Carries more garbage than you could possibly imagine. It also gets long enough where it can be used for spares (not that you would leave all that many ). Now, the downside. At the first sign of carrydown, put the ball back in the bag. You will not get the corners out of that rack no matter how direct you play. All in all, a very solid ball from Ebonite.<scr

I won this ball in a contest and was eager to have a ball in my arsenal that would be suitable for those late night leagues when nothing works because the lanes are parched. Having said that, I was somewhat disappointed to see that although this ball is suitable for the dry, it simply does not get the angle I needed for some good pin reaction. Now, I still can't give this ball a negative rating because although it did not work well for me, it was the perfect ball for a female friend of mine who had it plugged and drilled for her. The difference in our game? She is a slow throwing, low reving stroker. Suddenly this ball sprang to life and reacted much better than anything I could obtain. So all was not lost, and this ball has some use for some players. But it sure is pretty.

Ball is very smooth for me. I really like to play the gutter if it is playable, and this ball gives me the length that I need to play that effectively. The ball is not jumpy at the breakpoint which can cause issues carring corners. This ball with go where you throw it and is very predictable. If you pull it, it will have a tendancy to hold on a house shot, but that is more typical of the house shot, and not the ball. With it being a smooth reacting ball, errors are minimized, and more playable is given. If you are in a flood, but this in the bag unless you have Robert Smith type hand. This is a good ball for less hand and slower ball speeds, but can fit well in any arsenal.

The Illusion has a pretty color to it , it shines in the light. I have it go longer, so i can get a better pin action. I throw light and average speed and carry a 14 lb ball, and im a lefty. so i throw out to the second arrow and the lane grabs back i get a great hook. only if i miss my mark will i leave a 10 pin, or tend to go brooklyn. Otherwise it is a good ball, underated though, since most people dont own this ball yet. I would recommend this ball, it gives alot of room for error. Just make sure you have the money for it, or find it at a discount. Have fun bowlers!!

this ball was drilled with the pin dead center under the bridge with the cg directly below giving the ball zero side and finger weight. this ball gets down the lane without an effort. the ball has a even arcing roll into the pocket. it is great for a medium oil shot and even the drier shots(you just have to be ok with putting some belly on the ball) for heavy oil the ball still moves just very touchy with ball speed. this ball seems to lose its hit in the pocket if there is a big problem with carry down. all in all the ball is a nice addition to anyones arsenal.

The Optyx Illusion is a good ball for medium-dry. Its not a great ball for anything more than medium or really really dry. This ball is definitaly what i needed for dry lanes and i encourage anyone to buy it if they have the money for a expensive dry lane ball. May need to flatten out on really dry conditions or move over and swing it out more. This ball can improve your average if you need something to hold the line once it starts drying out. Maybe a useful ball by second or third game on league nights. The best ball in the Optyx line that is for sure so why not give it a shot.

I BOWL ON FRESH HOUSE SHOT THROUGH THE CARRY DOWN STAGE. THIS BALL IS VERY PREDICTABLE ON THESE CONDITIONS. IKNOW IT WOULD BE GREAT ON DRY LANES BUT I HAVE NOT GOT TO TRY THESE CONDITIONS YET. MY BIGGEST GRIPE WITH ALL BOWLING BALLS IS THE LONGEVITY, THEY JUST DO NOT LAST VERY LONG. THE EBONITES I HAVE USED SEEM TO HOLD UP BETTER THAN THE OTHER BALLS. I HOPE THAT IS TRUE WITH THIS BALL. I CHANGE WRIST POSITIONS MORE SO THAAN MOVING A LOT THIS BALL WORKS WELL COMING UP THE BACK ALL THE WAY TO A VERY LOW TRACK SPINNER. A GREAT BALL.

This ball is the best so far out of the optyx series. It has no stupid clear resin shell that DOESN'T work. I has great length and does turn over. The color chnage could have been more noticable don't get me wrong it does change color just not much teal to purple and not much inbetween. Kind reminds me of the exclaiber the 1 st one many moons ago seem to be super shiney and almost change color. Back to the ball, driller friendly and has a mb rolls smooth but very long you either need to have 1 million revs or like to play right. It even hits pretty hard. The only drawback is the price retail is like $250 should be able to get them online for around $150. Any question let me hear um. Trplx355@hotmail.com
