Brunswick Monster SlayR Bowling Ball

(21 reviews) Write a Review

The SlayR is a medium hook potential ball that comes alive on lanes that have a lot of dry boards, such as broken-down or top-hat (blocked) oil patterns. The SlayR goes significantly longer than balls that use Brunswick’s more aggressive PowrKoil or N’Control coverstocks, but the SlayR matches the more aggressive balls backend hooking action when used on the drier lane conditions it was designed for. The Monster SlayR uses a Mushroom shaped core derived from the very popular Quantum family of high performance balls. Designed to match up to the slicker lane oils used today, the SlayR features a high density inner core to produce a low average RG and medium flare potential ball. This strong core, in combination with the High Gloss PowrKoil LS coverstock allows the SlayR to generate strong down-lane recovery with a powerful but predictable breakpoint when used on drier lanes. Utility Out of the Box: With its high gloss surface the Monster SlayR matches up well on broken-down or top

This ball has marked the incredible milestone by producing the lowest RG with the lowest hook potential. This is the perfect ball of any house shot. The sheer dynamics of the symmetric core and coverstock combination create a wide margin of reactions for the down and in shot (outside 1st arrow) all the way to the deepest inside shot past the 4th arrow. This ball carries like an inferno and hits just as hard. It sets the standard for a weak ball for control and consistency. The lengh alone is incredible; on the driest of lanes, this ball will hold and carry every time.

I purchased this ball new off Ebay. Had it drilled with the pin above and in the middle of the fingers with about 3/4 side weight. Bowled about 9 games with it in practice and couldn't get a reaction. Talk about a 60 foot skidder. This ball was more of a bunny slayr than a monster slayr. Since I have a low track I decided to have the top weight checked out on the ball. Just as I suspected the top weight was 2 3/4 oz, which is way too much for the type of ball I roll. I had the pro shop drill a 1 1/8 diameter hole 1 inch deep through the CG. I also had the factory finish taken off with 600 grit scotch brite pad on a ball spinner. what a difference this made! This ball is awesome with nice length, a even arc and good hitting power. I am tempted to buy another one only with a lighter top weight. I would like to recommend to anyone purchasing this ball to sand off the funky factory finish first before using it.

I BOUGHT THIS BALL FOR ONE REASON: I BOWL ALOT OF TOURNAMENTS & EVERYTHING I HAVE CAN BECOME HARD TO CONTROL. I THROW HIGH REVS WITH FAST SPEED, THIS BALL IS VERY EASY TO READ, DOESN'T THROW ANY SURPRISES AT YOU. HIT YOUR MARK & 98% OF THE TIME CALL YOUR STRIKE. VERY EASY TO ADJUST WITH ALSO. AFTER 4 GUYS HAVE THROWN 4 GAMES ON JUST ABOUT ANY HOUSE PATTERN - YOU HAD BETTER HAVE ONE OF THESE IN YOUR BAG BECAUSE THE LANES WILL BE FRIED AND ALL OF YOUR NEW SUPER HIGH TEK STUFF IS GOING TO START TAKING OFF ON YOU. THIS ONE WILL BE YOUR SAVIOR.<scr

This ball is a great ball for when the lanes break down completely or your bowling house does not put any oil down. I've been able to go to this ball many nights when my infernos just start running on me. I just don't understnd why Brunswick is so stupid! They make a good ball and then they discontinue it. It's all about re-naming and selling equipment. If they would just understand that if they made customers happy by keeping the ball in production for more than 6 months they would bring people back to by other stuff they make. Oh well! Guess I'll go to ebay and buy one for storage. Like I did with my old Pink Hammer.

This is a must have in the arsenal for any tourny bowlers. When the lanes break down I am able to switch to this ball and barely move. Angle of hit has not seemed to matter so I've started throwing a little earlier on league nights' shot because this ball really hits!! I'm a big fan of the mushroom core and this is the best use of it since th Quantums were on the market. It's a real shame Brunswick did not get this ball out in the market a little more because I don't see anyone not liking it or maybe even needing it to complete their arsenal.

I am a beginner and this is the first ball I have ever owned. I really don't know all the technical stuff about what goes into making a great ball. I only know how it feels to use it and how well I am doing now because of it. I have raised my average 12 points so far and it just keeps getting better. It's good for a bowler that needs the ball to go long, it has a pronounced move to the pocket. If I hit the pocket with enough speed more times than none it strikes. If not it leaves corner pins.<sc

This ball, out of box, revs up like a MONSTER! Drilled for early roll, it comes alive on broken down lanes. Best taken out when lanes are patchy dry and it will do wat it does best...moving down far enough before sending pins flying! A MUST bring along ball for all occassions! A monster of its kind ever! Hope Brunswick comes out with another Monster of this! Yet another Monster of Monster Series ! Monster SlayR has not been tested dull by me yet as polished up, it works as what i intended it to do for my games, to go long for even dry lanes!

this ball is a straight up labled drilling. all i wanted from this ball is the typical dry lane shot go far and have more of an arc than skid/flip shot. i havnt really gotten to any lanes that can really prove this ball. but i have found out that this ball is good for sport shot conditions. i tried this ball on a 38ft pattern and it was perfect for the shot. overall again this is a great choice for the broken down to dry shots. it probably wont be a ball to start out first depending on the conditions

14mph, maximum side roll, pin out above ring finger, 10 deg axis tilt. It's has a fantastic reaction when the backends are dry and there is at least some oil for the first 38 feet. I bowled on a flat block. Standing from 15, throwing out to between 25 and 30, ball goes right to the edge and comes in like it has been kicked in, right into the 1-3 pocket. But beware when there is carrydown/ heads drying, the arc becomes more even and harder to predict. Haven't tried this on a top hat pattern, but I'm assuming it would be great, and you would have to play a deep inside line. I also played this ball on a medium dressed condition (uniform oil for first 38 feet) standing at 25 and throwing out to between 25 and 30. Ball makes a controlled move into the pocket if the shot is accurate. But again, when the line becomes dry, shot speed must be increased, an inside line found or ball change. *Update 03/03/05 I bowled this ball on a heavy/long condition at Dunstable, Herts, UK. I bowled

i had the ball drilled with the pin way above the ringfinger, which almost makes it slide all the way down to the machine =P... this is the first ball out of my bag at my home house games, (39 feet pattern, but very thin...) where u need a ball that doesn't overreact... I put a lot of revs on the ball, which means that I need a ball that doesn't react to soon, or too much at the backends... it works out just perfect, and gives me great control all the way down the lane!!!... the ball has helped me raise my average from 195 to 213 in just 1 year... amazing!!!

As long as the backends are clean this ball is the best for fresh light oil or broken down house shots. I have this ball drilled with the pin in a negative position (basically a left handed Label drill, but I throw righty) which, because of my inverted track, lines the core up so it rotates in my track as the ball revolves down the lane. This gives the reaction an overall "mellow arc" shape that covers about 7-10 boards and lets me play outside of 3rd arrow even if the lanes are pretty scorched. Warning!: I do not recommend such an exotic layout as I have for everyone! The downside of this ball is that the weak coverstock used on the ball will not be able to handle any carrydown/dirty backends. If you even suspect carrydown is present then put it away or you will have a very inconsistent reaction and the ball will not hit very well. Use it on the condition it was intended for and you will see why this ball is so great!

This is a great ball. It does exactly what it was designed for. Ball goes long and performs great on dryer shot. It should not be the first ball out of your bag though. It will not hook on a fresh set of lanes. It is a great ball for conditions later on in the day after lanes have dried out. However, there is very little leeway to the outside or your mark. Keep it inside though, and it will always hold. This is a great ball for high-revers and heavy hitters. I give it a 9 out of 10.

Brunswick Monster Slay R Pin 2-3 inch 15lb's Overall Monster Slay R I got used in a trade for one of my Vortex 2's. Drilled the ball with the pin above the ring finger and cg kicked out an 1 1/2, weight hole needed. Polished with ebonite factory finish and was put through the Ebonite Hook Again. I have been putting together a sport shot arsinal the past couple of months and this seems to be a good fit. Sport shot 30 foot and buffed to 35. I started out with a straight wrist normal grip pressure and playing up the 3 board. The shot was definatly there with that ball, but there was not any room for error. Next I keep everything the same and moved left to play the 8 board. This shot walked to the pocket all night. Then for a little test I lightend up grip pressure and went from 15 to 8 this shot also walked to the pocket. Don't get me wrong I miss a couple to the left or right it went its repective way. Shot 202, 203, 238, 243, 210, 201 with four opens with this ball. I played t

i have this ball drilled with the pin 3/4 inch above my right finger, and the cg is bisected by my left finger and thumb hole. left finger to cg = 2 inches cg to thumb hole = 2 14/16 inches (measurements taken from centres of holes) i was told it is the equivalent to drilling it between 2L and 3L with the brunswick drill patterns. basically, i had the ball drilled to go long with a sharp skid/snap on dry/light oil conditons. MEDIUM OIL, 40 feet i've just bowled 10 games with it so far, on medium oiled, single block, 40 feet lanes. it went smoothly and straight(ly) down the lane, no jerks, i couldn't see any track flare; i couldn't see the oil print. it had a weak reaction, so it was a good spare ball for me in this condition. it seems to go a few feet longer than my ragingRed before breaking. i had no problem picking up 10 pins, rolling the ball straight. also on this condtion, it was good for picking up sleepers. at the moment, it seems that this ball really needs to come

15lbs, 1" pin drilled with the Pin under the ring finger and the Cg in palm. I really needed something for when the lanes dry up or the heads are burnt. The SlayR defiantly feels right at home on conditions like these. I Finally got to throw the SlayR on some dry lanes and was impressed the way it got threw the burnt heads with ease, and made a strong controlled arc, with good carry to go with it. The problem I did have is that when playing on medium oil even in the dry part of the lane if there is some oil on the med lane or any carrydown the ball will just go forever. All-in-all Brunswick as a great light oil ball on there hands here.

The ball is outstanding. The best ball by brunswick. i used to hate brunswick because the balls always lost there energy b4 they got to the pins. the slayr is completely different. most of the time i have trouble usin the ball because it drives too hard. i leave a lot of 9 pins with the ball. but other then that i always use it. every tournament i go to i use it and do outstanding with it. the ball is jus so versatile. the only condition i have trouble with it on is long oil sport shots. but the ball is also not made for that condition. its made for medium to light and works great on those conditions. one of the easiest balls ever to flatten out and shoot spares with. all around an outstanding ball for higher revved players.

I had this ball drilled accord to BW's "4L" pattern and it does just what they say: goes VERY long on a dry condition and makes a strong turn to the pocket just when you think you'll get a light hit. In the few games I've bowled with it (<20), I've tried both dry and med conditons. Definately not for oil unless you go "hard and straight" at the pocket. I'm considering this as a good spare ball when there's oil and a better choice than plastic for your strike ball when the lanes burn up. You do have to be careful on corner pin spares when they're are dry, or you'll miss the 7 or 10 when it snaps. I haven't tried roughing the surface on my spinner yet, and don't plan to since my other balls cover the expected reaction.

I hope Brunswick keeps making these bowling balls because they are the best. I am 14 years old and a month ago. Since then i have thrown 1 300 sanctioned that lead to a 758. And a 290 which gave me 790 in my league. I absolutely love this bowling ball. My Freak and Game Pearl don't hook as much and the carry factor is a land slide. The SlayR hits harder than both these bowling balls combined. I am just filling out words to get passed the minimum 100 words so okay. My dad loves that ball and was thinking of getting one himself. I cannot type 100 words and that is annoying.

Everything I have, with the exception of my spare ball, hooks. This is an excellent ball, when drilled to go long, for dry shots, or for when the heads are just beginning to go away. It never overeacts and is pretty versatile for me. I can even play it down and in on light oil, although it tends to hang 10-pins. I have also found that it stays predictable when it's kept clean. I also like that I can move left and give it room, EVEN when starting the night out on drier conditions. It doesn't loose energy at the back end at all. Very predictable, honest roll. Also very forgiving, so long as there isn't pile of oil outside for it to die in. This is the tenth Brunswick ball I've owned, and it's quickly becoming a favorite simply because it helps to conquer conditions that used to kill me. I usually am never one to be taken by aesthetics either, but the ball looks awesome going down the lane. I'd highly recommend one for anybody looking to improve their dry lane scores.

I drilled this ball up for a house I bowl in that hasn't figured out that you're supposed to put oil in the machine before you run it. Drilled it up relatively weak (6 X 5), to get a little extra length out of it. The first thing I noticed, was that you didn't need a lot of oil to get it to the pocket. The second thing was, when it got there, it carried very well. Most dry lane balls hit like cotton balls because of the weak cover/core combo. Not this ball. This is a great addition for someone with very little speed, or who bowls on the Sahara.
