900 Global Cove Bowling Ball

I drilled up my COVE with a 5 x 4 x 2 which is a standard layout for me on smoother pieces. I left it box finish (4000) to start for a reference point. I compared it to my SUBLIME FOCUS and ZEN25 on a couple of conditions. The COVE to me was a little less than my FOCUS and a little earlier than my ZEN25. The marketing of the piece by 900 Global is spot on as you cannot go wrong if you are looking to plug in a middle of the bag piece. One thing I did notice was my COVE was very smooth at the breakpoint. My FOCUS could get sideways quickly and the ZEN25 definitely was sharper on the backend of the lane. I always thought of my FOCUS as a "poormans" PHAZE II but the COVE is close to that smoothness. With only a 4000 finish on it at the factory, the COVE did lane shine quickly. I touched it up with 3000 wet to give it some of that giddy up and it was like it came out of the box again on how it gripped the lane.

At the time of testing this ball I found it to be the closest to the Hy-Road 40, but the Cove was a tad stronger. Coming in with a 4000 surface allows this ball to save the energy for the reaction you are looking for to be strong off the pattern. I started going up 5 and kept moving left and after about 10 more boards the ball was maxed out and had to go to something a little weaker. That's where the Ember will come into play where the Cove stops. Cover: RB 85 Hybrid Reactive Core: Magna A.I. RG: 2.49 RG. Diff.: 0.044 Finish: 4000-Grit Abralon 900 Global’s new Cove is a Hybrid Symmetrical piece that is good for Medium-Heavy Volume patterns. PAP is 5 5/16 R 1 3/16 Up. Rev Rate: 400. Speed: 16.5. Drilled this piece with the Pin up between the fingers and CG kicked out 1” from the palm. I threw this piece on a left over house pattern. Out of Box ball motion started in the mids with a smooth shape on the backend. I compared this to the Zen 25 and Sublime Focus. Zen 25 was 4-4 more. Sublime Focus was 2-2 more. I drilled the new 900 Global Cove to be a middle of the bag option, and that is exactly what I got! I drilled this new ball with the pin above my bridge and the CG in my palm to give the most control possible. Naturally i think this ball is super controllable, but adding a controlled layout helped it even more. This ball is the perfect ball to start with if you plan on bowling leagues this fall. The brand-new core/cover combo gives you a unique shape compared to the rest. I see this ball fitting in the "RockStar" area of the bag. 10/10 from me!

Core. What you will see right away is that the Cove is smooth and well balanced with the RB Hybrid coverstock giving the Cove slightly more pop down lane as compared to a prior 900 release the 900 Global Xponent. At the time, the Xponent was highly regarded in the arsenal but a bit overshadowed by some other SPI pieces. However, the Cove has had a hot start during trade show season and testers are really liking results. The Cove comes with a hybrid coverstock, finished at 4000 Abralon. You can expect a good benchmark type of look from the Cove. The Hybrid coverstock will not hook to early and after a few games will settle down nicely. I tested the Cove out on THS and after about three games rolled it on the Don Johnson (40') pattern. The ball is very predictable which is the true strength of the Cove. In my opinion the Cove goes through the pins a tad better then its predecessor two generations ago the Ordnance C4. The Cove will be a great option as a starter ball out of the bag. Pattern: 40ft House Shot Layout: 70 x 4 1/2 x 40 Finish: Box (4000grit) The Cove by 900Global features a new symmetrical weight block called the Magna A.I. which has a dual-hemisphere design that provides a consistent ball reaction. This ball is completed with the RB 85 Hybrid cover at 4000 grit finish. At first, I was thinking this ball wouldn’t do much for me on fresh conditions. Honestly, this ball rolls like a controlled Asymmetrical Hybrid. Hard off the spot and consistent reaction. The new hybrid ball is called the Cove. It features a smaller core than you saw in the zen line. The drop in differential is complimented by a new RB85 cover that features a rapid oil absorption rate. This gives you an incredibly consistant mid-lane read with great continuation. I tested the cover for the first time in league. I figured with it's mid differential I would have to square it up a bit more. I gotta tell you this cover gives you more than you'd expect given the core numbers. I was at least as far left as I was accustomed to playing with my Zen 25. The shape is definitely mid-laney and smooth. It really reminds me of the XPonent in the mid-lane. If there was anything the X-ponent suffered from it was that is saw the mids so hard it stuggled to finish when covering boards. The Cove corrects that and as a result is one of my new favorite pieces. I honestly didn't go into the ball with high expectations but I think this ball is gonna be a surprise for a lot of bowlers. It looked great first game out. I did change out of it just because I had other balls I wanted to test that night, but another look at it the next day revealed that it was still in play at the end of the league session. It also seems to respond well to hand position changes so it's pretty versatile. This ball should be a fantastic tournament piece but it is great on the house shot too. I feel like this is one of those balls that might fit different parts of the bag for different people but that will be useful for everyone.

The intent is to pair the Cove and Ember together to cover a wide range of lane conditions. The Cove has a unique color that is very nice to see on the shelf and rolling down the lane. The Cove has a 4000 finish that gives the ball an early roll but not too early. The shape is smooth and controllable, and the ball goes through the pins very well. The cover can be scuffed up easily to give even more grab on heavier oil. I have tried 2000 on mine and may leave it there due to my lower rev rate and to achieve a wider gap between it and the Ember. I feel the Cove will allow you to be aggressive on a fresh pattern while maintaining a predictable back-end motion. There are already a good number of my customers talking about buying the Cove and Ember as a set fall the fall leagues. The Cove might be one of the smoothest balls I have thrown out of box. The Magna AI Core definitely seems to give the ball more stability. I was able to play around 5 on the fresh and it wasn’t too jumpy, just read and got to the pocket pretty consistently. This ball should come in handy around here with some of the house shots that are put out.
