WWOOWW....... cant seem to get enough of this ball, bowled my first 300 with it on Sunday April 17th, at the Pepsi tournament, can play a variety of shots if the oil is right, mainly its down and in, but when the time arises, playing the boards is just as easy. I wish i bought more of these and drilled em all different to use it more often. Storm has another faithful supporter. Has always been, and always will be my go to ball, first ball out of my bag every time I bowl. If you can find one of these I highly recommend picking it up.

I saw this on the second hand rack and thought I'd go for it. Plugged and redrilled for my hand and style (read my profile for this): "AXIS DRILLING" -the CG an inch down and right from ring finger. -pin out 3'5 inches right from ring finger -my PAP axis hole just 1'1'4 inches (down and right) from pin (i asked for the driller for this ball to go as long as possible) I started standing at around 20 and throwing out between 25-30. A good controlled reaction, went long and straight then making a good turn (not too sharp, just what I asked for) into the pocket. I didn't need to make a standing adjustment for about 14 frames, but after that, the ball went left of the head pin. I moved left a board but that only made the ball roll out prematurely. I then upped the ball speed (from my original standing position) and that got me more strikes. This ball works for me. I bowled this on medium/heavy conditons, and while slowing the ball down, I got a couple of easy 200+ games

Storm never ceases to amaze me when they produce balls of this high quality for a very reasonable price. This ball was drilled for me to have long length with a little backend on the lighter conditions of the house I bowl at. And it is good! If you like to play up and in like I do on Medium conditions, this is the ball for you. And the price is good for those who can not afford more than $150 for a light oil ball. And when the conditions are heavy, take out your heavy oil ball and use this for the tough spares the platic balls might slide on by.

I bought this ball off my friend for only £45 which i think it a real bargain as i took it too my coach got it plugged , redrilled and resurfaced. First time using it i shot 1166 for six games which for me is great. I had confidence every time that i put the bowling ball down the lane bowling over second which for me is normally a no go area on the lane. There is no denying the power off this bowling ball as it storms through the pins carrying nearly everything. I would really consider now buying another Hot Rod probably the pearl.

Excellent ball for legal house shot . First time on synthetics with it and it was amazing. Hit too hard sometimes - left some stone 9's. Created a ton of area. I had it drilled to give me a smooth arc which it does. When it heads for home, it just keeps coming. I am becoming a true believer in storm products. I believe that having a pro shop with a storm staff member in it is a big plus. There is no guessing with regards to how the ball should be drilled. Then you get the best of both worlds.

This ball rocks i love it i bowl 2 handed i have a ton of revs and throw it at a pretty good speed. this ball is made for people like that. when it gets dry you can open up the whole lane and it goes where you want it and on oily lanes you canmove more to the right and it goes where you want it.hits hard as hell never leaves 10 pins. it looks cool 2 when its going down the lanes looks like a red dot with a grey circle in the middle. has decebt length makes a strong move to the pocket.

Great ball for the money. It's not really been a big score ball for me, but I keep trying with it. I think I'm better off with something that will turn the corner a little harder because of my ball speed. I've been having trouble with my wrist so I can't slow the speed down and turn it a lot like I used to be able to. I have to lock my wrist, and let the ball do the work. This ball doesn't do a lot of work. It just does what you make it do. I guess that's a good thing, but I like to see the ball doing something, ya know?

We drilled one of these for one of our best customers - a left hander with medium revs about the 250-300 RPM mark, and speed around 17MPH. So that he didnt get too flippy a reaction, we driled the ball with around a 3" pin - 35 degree mass bias. We have drilled a few of his balls like this and find it gives him the best look on his typical conditions. Being a pearl ball, the ball slides very well through the heads despite the drilling, but gives an excellent midlane read and recovery, and doesn't overact on the back end. The bowler in question bowled his first 300 using a hot rod just a few weeks after punching it up, so needless to say he is happy with it! I have given this review just 9 pins out of 10 because 10 should be saved for the revolutionary balls such as the X factor, so this ball pretty much gets top score for its catagory :P Ryan www.rpsbowling.co

The house shot at the house I work at has loads of oil in the middle of the lane but is nearly bone dry on the outside. Everyone around here throws an X-Factor or an Icon and soaks up a lot of the oil in the middle when they play deep. I used to throw a Throttle on the shot but carrydown would mess me up horribly by the third game. I wanted a ball that would hold line well in the dry so I bought this ball. Best decision ever. I could play outside first arrow like Norm Duke can do and it annihilated the pocket. The ball hits like a ton of bricks. No over/under and could easily be thrown at 10 pins as well. Extraordinary ball for the price.

This ball truly does what it was made for. It gets right past the heads as if the heads never existed. The ball could be used on pretty much any shot as long as there was enough back end for the ball to grab some dry boards. The ball did not carry the ten pin often though. Also hooks more than is should. Not a true dry lane ball although great ball to take out of the bag in the middle of a tournament once the lanes have broken down. The ball did not track out easily and works well polished or dull.

Its been forever since my spirit went dead on me. Since then Ive been looking for a light oil ball to use. No thanx to anybody that uses storm Ive found it. This ball is very easy to use under light oil conditions. It hits pretty hard also. I can play this ball from outside the first arrow to the second aroow and will still get the same results. I also use this ball for spears with medium-heavy to heavy oil lanes. The only problem is that I get too much over/under with the ball sometimes. Overall storm has made a pretty good ball for light oil lanes.

this ball to me is very mid range in performance. when locked in it is good carry is generally good also. Although i find on most conditions the ball is too snappy, i grant it that it does get through the heads well but either over reacts or under reacts at the breakpoint on most conditions. I find the best place for me to play with this ball is very deep for example 6th arrow out to about board 10 where the lane is drier and then does its huge snap and 9 times out of 10 carries well. not bad..... could be better

The ball is a good buy if you aren't looking to spend alot of money. I like the coverstock, and the block is just about as simple as it gets. I would recomend this ball to someone looking for something to start out with, or for a more experienced bowler to use on a house shot. I likked the ball when my eraser, or danger zone was too much. Don't try to use the ball on a shot that is heavy, or anything that has carrydown. My drill was simple: length, length, length. Pin and CG are just outside of the ring finger, and run parallel to my grip line. I had to take some weight out of the side to comp for the movement of the CG. Later, Brian

I have tried this ball box finish, sanded, and highly polished---it stunk no matter what i did. I have a 5 5/8 over 5/8 up pap---we drilled this ball 5 1/2 x 5---it is the most inconsistent ball i have ever thrown---if i get it into the dry it over hooks----if i try and bump the oil it flakes out----if i try and throw it in the oil it looks like plastic---which bring me to my only like---it has made a great spare ball--too bad i paid $130 for a spare ball. If this ball has a good lane condition---i haven't found it yet---a buddy of mine had his for 2 weeks before he got rid of his---it was flaky for him also----if you like the sound of the ball rolling over the thumb hole---the sond of wash outs---and the sounds of your cuss words---by all means, go buy one.

I bought this ball March 24th, used it two games that night. Shot 208-194 out of the box. Then i Used the ball two nights later at a different house that dosen't like to condition the alleys for our league. It overreacted a little and i shot in the 560s. Then On March 31st, I shot my first 300 with it. I was standing four boards from the left gutter and throwing to the first arrow on one lane and throwing it out past the first arrow to about the two or three board on the other lane. The ball came crushing into the pocket. No bad Brooklyn strikes and no late pin falls. This ball explodes the pins. I couldn't be happier with another great low cost storm product.

Good house ball when the rest of the league wears out the the second arrow track. Move in to 25-30 and play in between 3 & 4 and this ball will perform. Watch your carry, but other than that , this is the go to ball on a burnt track house shot. Ball will allow for some room as well if you push it out to quick but watch for the dry. The polished coverstock will rev up and punch too soon if you let it. Nice recreation of the Thunder Road Pearl. Another great ball from Storm. Can't wait to see what's next.

Our sport pattern is oiled 18 feet and buffed to 39. So I punched it 5 x 4 to get the length and finish I like. The Hot Rod is "typical Storm" great through the fronts with recovery. The Rod does not waste time reading the fronts as it seeks out the breakpoint. I enjoy watching this ball read the mids without making an erratic change in direction. Orginally I left 1/4 side and finger in it but it was way to strong for my game. Now it's zerod out and truely what I expected. Avoid this ball if you are not looking for a great tournament piece. Don't leave this ball out of your arsenal

This was a very nice ball. Very controllable. Comes dull in the box. I polished mine. I think this would be a good league ball to use in a transition or when the heads or mid-lane is giving you problems. The part that I love the most is the amount of area the ball creates. The backend reaction allows for the ball to hook on a miss and freeze on a tug. Nice Ball. It coulda had a scent too. Strawberry or Apple would have been nice. Bowlers who throw a lot of hand would be very happy with this ball. I also think for the price its a must and is better than many other mid-price balls ive seen recently.

I bowl at a place that is drier than the desert. I'm a cranker and was really having trouble with balls hooking too early before they got to the pocket. I wrote the technical staff at Storm, and they recommended this ball for dry lanes. Shot a 197, 189 & 258 in my first 3 games with this ball. I was in heaven. 12-30-03 Edit ... I've decided that this ball leaves WAY TOO MANY 10 Pins on dry lanes. It just doesn't have *POP* at the finish. I switched to a Jeckyl. It's not perfect, but I prefer the way the Jeckyl finishes a little better. This Hot Rod is going on Ebay.

this ball is awesome..storm makes great stuff but this by far is one of the best at its price.....the ball gets down the lane so good and makes that nice move to the pocket....and hits so damn hard....people in my league were suprised that this ball only cost about 120 dollars....it reminded me alot of my old firestorm from back in the day....i think everyone should have one of these in there bag.......it truly complements my ultra hot which i feel is another great ball in the low cost area from storm... .....just buy one and you will see
