Hammer Big Blue Solid Bowling Ball

(26 reviews) Write a Review

Although it has the same good looks and bad manners as the original Hammer Blue, Big Blue is a juiced up version of its predecessor - designed to dominate in today's slicker environment. Driven by the revolutionary Gas Mask core, the first High Mass Bias core ever used in a Hammer ball, Big Blue employs an all-new core design that earns its lethal name. It also gets extra juice from a dual particle veneer specifically formulated for Big Blue. And only a legend could offer such a strong mid-lane continuation in medium to heavy oil.

I really like this ball for normal condition from medium to light oil which is most of the time. This ball has a nice even arc and is very easy to control. The ball has nice little snap on the back end and is not too aggressive. A great ball to play the outside down and in or a small swing shot. I have shot 6 700 series in a row with this ball. If you are looking for a nice medium to light oil condition ball I would recommend this ball. This ball is also great to sand of polish.

Can't really say much about this ball that might mean anything to someone else. I like mine a lot, since I got a great drilling. I've shot 800 with it, after dulling it up a little. I felt the need for a little more surface, in order to take advantage of the core spin. It would tend to spin up all the way down, and start it's move a little too late. But the surface change definitely helped, so I can play in oil, with moderate carrydown. It tends to pick up any grime and dirty oil it runs over. But that's probably a house thing, since our lanes aren't taken care of very well. All in all, another winner in my arsenal. 10 out 10.

Never liked this ball. Loved my blue hammer of old. This ball never hit hard. I took it out of my bag a week after I bought it. From oil to dry this ball was inconsistent. I had it redrilled to go longer and still hit like sponge. RE-drilled it again to arc and the over-under was incredible. The only ball I ever gave away with less then 20 games. Ba-bye big blue. Ba-bye big blue. Ba-bye big blue. Ba-bye big blue. Ba-bye big blue. Ba-bye big blue. Ba-bye big blue. Ba-bye big blue. Ba-bye big blue. Ba-bye big blue. Ba-bye big blue. Ba-bye big blue.

Had this ball, operative being had. The ball was drilled more so to get the arc back in with a little more kick in the backend as well. For the most part, the ball allowed me to play around 10 kicking out a little with a nice arc back to the pocket. Or I could, if needed, play straight up outside and walk it in. Either way, the ball held real well, carried great and generally had little to no problems. The only thing I saw that it didn't like was the carrydown. The ball just didn't seem to have enough in it to get through it. Perhaps a little less side weight might have helped, but that's why we have other balls....to bring out when this sort of thing happens. I was able to shoot my sanction high of 299 with it. At times, I do wish I had another one to play around with. Maybe to tweak the cover or something. Recommend the ball though without a doubt. As most have noted, don't go expecting this thing to turn on a dime. Count on a nice arc....OLD SCHOOL....Faball style!! <s

Lets just say ive been bowling for about 2 months now. Started out with a Columbia Scout. My average for the first 4 weeks ended up at 130. So after my pro shop messed up on redrilling it for more hook, he messed up and handed me a brand new big blue. Wow all i have to say, its now the 10th week of bowling and my average is a 202. Ball has helped me out greatly in adapting to my style of bowling. For those of you who say that this ball does not hook, maybe its your style of bowling or your release, I have had no troubles with this ball so far. One thing ive noticed now is its so easy to change alleys and still be able to keep up with my average from Synthetic to Wood, with this ball it doesnt really matter. I also picked up a Brunswick Blazing inferno for 30 bucks NIB on ebay and that ball also is working out great for me. But yes if you can find the big blue for under $100, definetly go for it, i wouldnt say its worth the 160-180 that the retail stores are selling it for, but then aga

It's like people say nothing hits like a hammer. It has help me raise my average 10 pins. It holds a line and tracks nicely threw the oil and hooks to the pocket with power. When it hits in the pocket. you can sit on down. Cause this ball will carry. It blows the rack like a bomb was exploeded. I really love this ball so much that I have two of them. When the lanes get onthe dry side all you have too do is shine it up and it will still track the line. This ball has made me a winner.

After reading other reviews about this ball I knew I had to make a review of my own. This ball seems to be very particular about how it is drilled. Having a driller who cares as much about your scores as you do makes all the difference. The guy who "used" to drill for me developed a "who gives a crap" attitude and just started drilling to make a quick buck. After four months of arguing that the ball wasn't working. I had another pro shop check the weights. It cost me another fifty bucks for redrilling but with incredible results. My first practice game was a 279 and first league set over 700. On synthetic I have to use an outside line and slower ball speed. On wood I usually swing from about 13 to 6. Both with awesome results. I'm glad I didn't follow my initial instinct and throw it in the river.

If you like a ball that is a ball that doesn't hook alot but doesn't hook little then this is the ball for you. if you hit it perfectly then it will hit very hard!!!! don't come high or your likely to leave some spilts. Last night i left about 6 splits with it but got lots of strikes! I like this ball alot! I will buy more hammer balls now that this one was such a success! I can't wait to buy one and i'm sure that i will like that one the same.

This ball was purchased in January. I had it drilled with the pin 4" from my PAP, with a 60 degree angle to the mass bias. My driller indicated that I would be able to get through the heads on all but the driest lanes, then the ball would begin a smooth and powerful arc for the rest of the way down the lane, as long as I played in the oil to keep it from burning out. Instead of that sort of reaction, I can hardly get the ball to hook. Not even by bouncing it off the dry boards. During my practice, my Ebonite Matrix Dynasty (label leverage drill) was able to cover several more boards than the Blue, even though the lanes were very oily. My Brunswick X Zone (4" @ 75 deg.), which is my least hooking ball, was only about one board less of hook than the Blue. The above situation prompted me to email Hammer and explain my disappointment. They, in turn, asked that I return the ball to them and they would send me a new one. I did so immediately. When I still had no new ball in April, I once

OK, gang! My Big Blue was drilled for a deep inside line with a strong backend move, the typical tournament shot. The pin is 1-2 inches from CG and at 5:30 from the ring finger. HMB is about 1 to 1 1/2 inches away at 4:30 from the thumb hole. As I stated before, this is the first ball out of my bag in both NABI and ABT events. You MUST keep this ball clean in between frames and games for it to stay active. Keep moving left for fresh oil and it will still be HAMMER TIME!!!!

I cannot begin to understand how bad this ball turned out to be. I bought this ball because I was told it was going to something great, turned out to be something horrible. The reaction is weak, the backend it weak, and therefore, the carry as well is weak. Nothing about the ball I can tell you works. HOWEVER, I have seen some STRAIGHT bowlers throw this very fast straight up 12 and carry good on light oil conditions. I am not even going to bother writing more. Just get my drift, and don't make my mistake. - Bad overall - Too weak for a power hit - Carry is light, like hiting with a scout<

This is a follow-up to my earlier review... Here are some measurements on the drilling. Remember, I'm a lefty. Pin is 1/2" above ring finger. "HMB" is 3 1/2" left of center of thumb hole. Weight hole is approx. 3" below the U in "BLUE" Span between center of middle finger hole to center of thumb hole is approx. 5" (which is about 3/4" shorter than my other balls and feels un-natural) I'm not a ball driller but I feel like something is wrong somewhere. I can throw 210-220 with my 12 year old urethane Brunswick Rhino but I can't break 150 with this BIG BLUE on the same lanes & conditions! I'm open to suggestions.

This ball is great if you only throw it 3 mph & 30 revs.! I bought this ball because I wanted something that would hook in long medium to heavy oil patterns. But with more speed & fewer revs, this ball will go straight no matter where I throw it on the lane! My normal house shot is over the second arrow from the left (I'm left handed) but this ball refuses to turn into the pocket and stays left. The only way I can hit the pocket is to move left on my approach and throw an outside-in shot! (Anyone remember Earl Anthony?) I had the ball sanded down to a 320-grit surface but with any ball speed at all, it still will not hook. It may be one of the best balls on the market... But it's definitely NOT for everyone!

Overall i pleased with the Big Blue for meduim to med-heavy oil conditions. I think i made a bad choice in the drill i used. pin above the middle of the fingers for length and strong backend finish. I plan on purchasing another Blue and drill it without the length perhaps then it would work better on heavy oil. The house i bowl at is infamous for their swamp like conditions. Using the length drill when sanded this ball moves quite a bit more than my blade Reactive or Blade particle. But after about three weeks it shines up too much and hooks much less than either of those balls. Definately high mainentence ball if you want the hook out of it. But on the other hand this ball is not designed for backend hook. it was designed for early roll and a more direct line in heavy oil which it is good at. personlly i like the swing shot. Overall the Big Blue is welcomed in my bag as my medium oil ball. It gradual hook and accuratecy more than make up for its high mainteniance Just hope it lasts lo

I bought this about 2 weeks ago, threw about 3 games with it and sold it. I was not pleased at all. The ball with start early getting a nice reaction, but after that forget it. Besides that, this ball everytime I hit the pocket, 9 times out of 10 I would leave tap. Not only that, but this ball hooks too much for any condition. The roll on this ball was horrible, it started out go but it flipped so back that before I knew it, the ball would flare over the ring and thumb. I wouldn't recommend this ball to anybody, because frankly it stinks.<scrip

I got this ball about a month ago - i drilled it pin under ring cg at 45 degrees. I am a tweener but can play straight or rev it up when needed. I got this ball polished it to 320 rolled great carried descent on medium lanes. Any type of heavier oil patterns this ball skidded too long. I also sanded this ball to 600.. well on the oil rolled up better but didnt cary anything.. hitting power died. So if u have a fresh shot with about 20 ft of backend this ball will be great but its not the oil ball everyone talks it up to be. Atleast not for me.<

I am convinced that most balls when drilled right to your style, it will hit the pocket solid and finish great. This ball is no exception... I can play inside on oily lanes and outside on dryer lanes and I can always seem to find the pocket solidly. I used to get so frustrated with the old hammers... it would leave solid five pin, solid ten pin and at times a solid 7 10. Then I figured it out... a consistent style, and get the ball drilled to your style. It does wonders, because I throw the ball max axis and since most older alleys are so inconsistent... I would find my ball going all over the place..... Now, it takes me a few frames to get to the pocket and I can get a decent score. This ball is one of my favorites and I would recommend it to anyone that wants a solid finishing ball<sc

Best ball I have ever thrown. Moderate cranker, had ball drilled to go long before grabbing, but when it goes, it flies! No trouble getting thru wet - medium/dry heads and smooth, predictable finish. Best carry I have ever seen - corners happen, but not often. Pins just fly when it hits - best pin action & movement I have seen & really helps the carry. Average was 197 before this ball - had it 5 weeks, average is now 202. Bowl one league night/week and 2 tournaments with sets of 758, 717, 720, 667 & 680. If any concerns, the ball may hit TOO hard and leave a 9 on occasion. Great ball, Hammer has done it again!

really good ball for someone who wants a ball that will hook no matter what. drilled in patern 3 from www.hammerbowling.com ball goes way down the lane and then has like a smooth/sharp snap, like nothing ive ever seen before.once it starts hooking it just keeps going with a nice smooth arc. about 1 game in i starteed leaving a lot of 10's. but a small move right solved my problem easy. a couple tomes i pulled the ball and it held til it had to then dominated the pins. dont pull it too far and dont expect it so sit...it prolly wont. amazing ball, i dont throw a lot of revs but this thing hooks amazing. the only thing i dont lie is the size of the 4th hole to make it legal.... the thing is huge!!! NICE JOB HAMMER!!!!!

this is one of the best balls i have thrown that i get great reaction and hard hitting power time and time again. iam really likeing this new hammer stuff since ebonite took over. ive trown this ball now about 50 games and this new coverstock is holding up real great.on a fresh top hat and clean backends this ball rolls smooth and has a great arc to the pocket. on heavey oil i have to play more down and in and slower ball speeds. this is not a big hooking ball but has a great arc that rolls threw the pocket with great power. if you want a great oil ball thats controllabale this is it.

This ball makes bowling easy again. Great ball on fresh backends. This ball just reads the lane that good. One of the few particle balls that you can actually throw for all 3 games of league. It even worked well on a sport condition. Slapped a lot half hit tens in a house that usually dosen't let you. This is probably the most predictable ball I've thrown since urethene. Dosen't seem to track up which hopefully says it will not lose it's performance in a short amount of time. Good color too!! Looks just like an old blue rolling down the lane. Brouhgt back good memories. Ball also makes up for mistakes. Pulled a few shots and it stayed there and flushed the hole. If your looking for a smooth rolling particle ball that carries this is the ticket. If you liked the original Blue Hammer by FAB you'll like the re-introduction from Ebonite. Great Job Ebonite!!

I've been throwing a 16lb. Blue Hammer since the early 1990s. When I was told about the Big Blue I wanted it immediately. I dropped to a 15lb ball and got a Big Blue for Christmas. So far I have rolled 9 games in competition and have averaged 183.(My league Avg is 166). I'm not an expert but I'm happy with this so far. Last night in my league I rolled a 576 and had 18 strikes on the night. I'm noticing that I'm leaving a lot of singles but I'm not sure whether it's the ball or that I'm still learning to throw it. I've also noticed that I'm getting less strikes as the night wears on. Last night I changed lines in the second game and started striking again. The bottom line for me is that I'm hitting the pins at a much better angle of attack than I had been with my old Blue Hammer. I'm keeping the old ball as back up on dry conditions and will surely need a new 'dry lane' ball in my arsenal.

I drilled this ball because I wanted a urethane reaction. This ball is not going to backend for you unless you have 48 feet of oil. This ball does hook quite a bit, but does most of it in the midlane. This isn't a bad thing, just not the usual backend people are used to seeing. I havea Raging inferno drilled very simalar to the big blue. I was practicing with both, and people were telling me how much more the Inferno hooked. It didn't , it just hooked all at once. I was ten boards farther left with my feet using the blue, than with the Inferno, playing the same breakpoint. If you want to see the ball backend, DON'T BUY THIS BALL! If you want a ball that will play in the oil, or deeper on the lane you shoould look at this ball. The only warning is pay attention to the drill sheet. These asymetrical, high mass bias balls don't hook well when drilled leverage. This ball is very hard hitting, and very easy to read. I drill a lot of balls, and this is the best ball I have drilled in a long t
