First of all, I'm a right handed tweener that throws around 16-17 mph (at the pins). The other pieces of equipment I throw, though all of them are older balls, have been hooking more than I really want to deal with since the house I bowl at has had flying backends recently. Also, my Blue Hot Flame was a little bit too weak to get back when the oil started to carry down. To solve this problem, I did some research, looking for a ball that would: a) Have less of a snappy reaction on the backends. b) Get down the lane. c) Allow me to play an outside angle. d) Respond a bit stronger than my Blue Hot in the oil. I nearly went with a Tropical Storm as I've always been happy with the length I get out of Storm equipment, but after reading reviews and hearing people say that it hooks just as much as some higher end balls, I decided to stay away from that one. I decided on the Ice because of it's core being symmetrical and not having one of of those flip blocks that are notorious f

Mine has a 1 1/2 inch pin with the pin centered below the fingers and drilled strait up. The result: the most predicatble and controllable reaction I own. Good length, even on dry boards, and a smooth arc, predicable roll to the pocket. This is an awesome ball for entry level or intermediate skill players, and has it's uses for the more advanced bowers. Overall, I give this ball a 10 in price and performance balance, but a 9 in overall performance. The only problem I experienced was weak carry, especially on the 7-pin. The head pin or whatever pin would fly just in front of it and leave the single pin for me to convert.

this ball is great for medium oil...hit hard but sometime weak....it also can use for spare.....no spare ball needed....good for inside angle.....controlabble...........but cant play this ball with fast speed...first time i used this ball,i was score 203...first high game....good for the intermediate bowler..........throw this ball with slower speed if u want more strike.....this ball not hook on heavy oil..and most hook in light oil....also can strike if the ball crush 1-2 pocket...but not roll nicely.......roll weak.........but hit hard......magic ball.......most consisten..............<scri

the ice is a good overall ball, my first 3 games with the ball i bowled a 220 264 and a 202. to me this ball hooks very hard i have a very high rev rate and a average ball speed. soo when i play deep lines this ball comes back with as much hitting power as the one. good ball for people that are looking to upgrade from a beginner hook ball or a person that wants an intermediate hook.i have had the ball for 2 years and it is still goin strong and moving on the lanes just as much as it did when it came out of the box. good ball

I was gonna buy the Tropical Storm for light oil. But, in a session with my coach, a guy on the next pair was throwing a TS and said it hooked as much as his high performance balls. My coach then said, a good ball for light oil is the Ebonite Ice. I joined a summer league at an all synthetic house with light oil and a short pattern. I struggled on this shot last year and remembered what my coach said. So, I went out and bought the Ice and haven't had a complaint about the lane reaction or the hit of the ball. It is a ball I will have in my arsenal for quite a long time.

I would recommend this ball if you are looking for a dry lane ball that can handle a little bit of oil. Plays really smooth with a nice backend. You can't expect this to be effective on an oily lane of any kind though. Mine was 14 pounds, I think 15 would hit better than this one though. I am using 15 pounders now and regretting not getting a 15 with the Ice. My review says I played second arrow, but on a dry lane standing with your left foot on center and throwing it between first and second arrows is effective.

the ice is a nice ball for medium to light oiled lanes if you want a nice reaction from it. i came in as a sub on night and used a family members ice cause of i had no idea i would bowl and didnt have my inferno. that night i was added to the local newspaper for 3 games of 210+. my games were a 221, 264, 285. i had rolled a 770 series. i was reading light oil on the lanes and was moving very often. but i was mad when the ball over broke after having 10 in a row from the first i was on my way to my first 300 game. the ice is a nice reating ball that can hit the pocket either light or hard depending on how you threw it. How much can you say about a heavy round object that everyone else hasn't heard before? I love the ball, proud to see it coming back out of the return, out of the box my average has raised 12 pins. Styling is beautiful, and with a little tender love and care this ball can perform well in anything from medium-light to heavy oil lane conditions. Ebonite with another winner. Priced at bargain ball levels with a mid-range to almost performance ball standard. Be prepared to break out a scotch pad for the heavy oil if you count on more than a few boards break on your hook.

I just got this ball today played about 4 games and it's a great ball. The first ebonite and it won't be the last. I needed something for light oil lanes and this is it. It goes down the lane very well and comes back hard. If you pull, it will hit light but carry will take care off that. Shot 221, 189, 212, 146(my fault, got tired throwing this ball too hard). I was having so much fun throwing this ball that it warn me down about 4th game. I'm not too sure how this ball was drilled but the pin is at top of my ring finger. This ball is a keeper for me since my eraser and intense is for more of medium to heavy oil.

Drilled this ball 5x4 1/2. Pin over fingers. 774 first three out of the gate with a *choke* 298. Ball works well on most medium to light oil conditions. Can bump it off the dry or play between second and third arrow. Carries light hits well. This ball generally gives about 5-7 boards of area. Downsides, tends to leave weak 10s on carrydown. Can skid past breakpoint if thrown too hard. On spotty conditions, tends to rev earlier than you want it to. Recommend it to anyone looking for control on tournament shots where backends are ripping. Works great on normal house shots.

The Ebonite Ice is good for fresh Medium to light shots, but when the lanes dry out this ball takes off because of its early and continuous backend. If you want this ball for dry lanes this ball is not for you, but if you like throwing the ball deep inside the lane and fast it might be good for you. This ball has the same core as the Stinger 2-Piece Low Flare Pearl and the same coverstock as the V2 sanded. Over all this ball is a nice ball and I would recommend to any one who wants a new ball. This all is effected on the drilling of the ball.<

i got rid of the xception for the ice with my friend, yes i know everyone might think it was a bad trade but i am loving this ball. it seemed to really wanna hit and make pins scattered if tossed out too far. if pulled watch out because a split was normally left or something like that 5-9. i threw this ball on lanes were i was playing six out to four and i really couldnt get anything to hit with carry, i got this ball out and i was suddenly crushing the pocket for the first time in a long time at a certain house. i went to dry lanes at another house in town to see what it would do and i was amazed. it still had the great hitting power and carried like it had no problem. this ball does seem to have a problem it you try to get too much angle with it. on the drier lanes i was playing tighter on 14 out to about 12. all around seems to be a pretty good ball, great after all the bad things i have been hearing about ebonite

Eh, it is just okay. I feel like I have to be perfect to knock all 10 down. The other day, I was standing a little left of center and throwing it out to about the 15-17 board and it made a right turn down the lane and crushed the pocket. But it is too erratic sometimes and it can hurt your game if you stick with it too long thinking that you will throw it better the next ball. When this ball is used on dry lanes, it's a killer, but when there is oil, watch out, it'll slide and slide & leave you some nasty splits.

I drilled this ball 3 3/8" away from my pap then drilled a balance hole on the midplane line below the pap by my thumb to remove a 1/2ounce. the balance hole is to help it flare up a little bit more. since it has a low flare core and, a high rg compared to my other balls. i use this ball on sport shots because of the high rg and low flare, it won't take off when i tuck it and miss my mark 2 boards to the left , killing the gutter. i would reccomend this ball to anyone, and everyone. just because the ball is only 80 some bucks plus drilling which doesn't cost a bit when your buddy own the proshop, lol. EDIT: i have found out that this ball does loose its reaction after 3 months but i just used some 1000 grit sand paper and renew it and it hooks the same as it did when i got it. it s a nice low diff. ball if it had a higher diff. than it probably wouldnt have lost its reaction as bad. ive drilled 2 of these and i like both of my layouts my newest one i drilled pin 4 1/2 inches

I asked my pro shop to drill this ball so that it would save energy and still hit hard during game three of my Friday night league and that is exaclty what it does. I can't get over how well this ball does when everybody else is struggling on the spotty game three lane conditions. I really needed a different ball for the last game of the night and this ball certainly filled the gap in my bowling ball line up. I really could not be happier with this product and I would recomend it to anyone in need of a very controlable and moderate hooking ball.

Editing all my reviews... Coach told me to go get my grips checked.. and yea they where all out of wack. after changing them balls getting off my hand smoother and im getting a much better ball reaction. With this ball (stacked levrage), i am able to open up the lanes on med to med-dry conditions and still have pelnty of engery left at the pin deck. When im lined up w/ a swing line ( a line that lets me miss a few boards to the left) the ball reads it great and comes back w/ more angle to make up 4 my mistake. When your standing left of the 30 board (for right handers) its probly time to put it away in favor of something that hooks less, b/c it becomes a lot less forgiving and much more speed sensitive. Note: i only bowl on sport and tornement shots (no house shots), i bowl on both wood and syntetics.

The ice is a great compliment piece that everybody should have. if you have that medium-oil house shot that gives corners, this ball is ideal. Smooth nature of ball will allow you to read the lanes quite well. I have my CG in my palm and the pin above my fingers to give the ball as much length as possible. Players with a good amount of hand must be weary of overreaction. Keep the polish on the ball inorder to preserve the balls life and length,Dosen't always go as long as I would like it to.Overall, this is a good piece that I love playing with.

This ball has to be the best looking ball I have had in years. It is truly a beauty to me, and i would recommend this ball for anyone just to put in the bag and make it look good. this ball doesnt hook that much it is the least aggressive ball i have and it is a good thing. i recommend this ball for anyone who is looking for a ball that wont hook too much. it could hook a ton if you drilled it aggressive, but i never do that because then i couldnt keep the ball on the lane. just get this ball and drill it extremely weak maybe even a little negative weight and then it will be smooth sailing and straight going from then on out. just get the damn ball and see.

This is a 14 pound ball with a 3 inch pin. I had the pin placed over ring finger and the cg left of and below grip center. This left the ball with .75 oz of negative side weight and .75 oz of thumb weight. The intent here was to duplicate my Barbed wire's motion (long and then an arc with a very small amount of hook). I like the look that the Barbed Wire gives me on a hooking condition, but that ball hits like a marshmellow. While this ball clears even toasted heads with ease, it starts to hook several feet before the Barbed Wire does. The look is long and even, but the cover is a pretty strong pearl and reads the midlane pretty early. I have to play deeper with the Ice than I want to right now. The ball does hit quite well. I left few ten pins with this ball. I'm going to coat this sucker with several coats of Control-it to see if I can tame it down just a tad. If you want a pearl ball that will clear the heads, control the midlane and then hit this is an excellent choice. I'll u
