Columbia 300 Spirit Bowling Ball

The Spirit by Columbia 300 will provide outstanding hook and performance at an incredible value. This is due, in large part, to Columbia and BASF working together to produce an inexpensive yet high-performing coverstock, exclusively for the Spirit cause. The core has an Rg of 2.59 (15lb.) and will create 3-5 inches of track flare. The Spirit is factory polished with a hook rating of 16; however, it can be sanded to greatly increase hook potential. The Spirit is sure to provide striking results on most common lane conditions, AND ALL FOR A GREAT CAUSE!! This ball is one of COLUMBIA's best.It is described as a medium oil ball, but it is so much more. It is equally effective in heavy oil to med-light pattens. I have effectively used this on everything from light-med oil to FLOODED. I have tried on toasted patterns, but it is drilled too aggressive to be very effective. The drilling is 4x4 stacked. I have a neutral finger and side weight. I have a 1 1/8" vinyl thimb slug This ball will ALWAYS have a place in my bag. I am looking for a new one to keep in reserve. This ball is worth a try for beginners to more advanced bowlers. Pooner highly reccomends this ball.

I normally bowl with the ROCK solid (also discontinued) and needed something for the second and third games when the lane breaks down. I purchasd this ball over a year ago and have looked at it in my spare bedroom until last month. Having never bowled with a polished ball, it took some time to get out of my SANDED frame of mind. Once I did that , this ball really delivered!!! I drilled it with a 4x4 stacked pattern and 1/2 thumb weight. I have learned (even on fresh oil) that I can throw it out over the second arrow going out to ~ the 6 board and it will crush the rack EVERYTIME! As the lanes break down, I will have to move left, but it is a gradual move, not a reaction to anything bad. I am a 180 bowler (dropped 8 pins while LEARNING" this ball, but have brought it back up in just a few weeks. This was the first ball I drilled myself and would not hesitate to do it on a more expensive ball. I wish they would BRING IT BACK.. The Spirit II has a different core than the original, but woul

Well, when first told about this ball by my coach, I've gotta tell ya, I wuz super skeptical. An $80 ball made for a special cause (9-11 terrorist attackz commemoration)?!? Yeah, thatz nice and all, but will it get the job done? . . . YOU BET!!!! I got this at the same time as my co-favorite ball, the Rock-On! (also retired), when I revamped my arsenal and moved up to the 15lb class (at which I am currently). The Rock-On! wuz my most expensive ball ever and the Spirit, the cheapest (strike ball), and at first, I struggled throwing both effectively . . . but after my breakthrough, I knew that my (parents') investment wuz a wize one. Drilled with the pin just over the fingers and the CG partially kicked out, this ball can tackle ANY condition you throw at it. The track flare potential is relatively vast, the hitting power is comparable to the Flipside WOW!, and it'll easily start and keep on hitting. And for the bowler who is revolutions-challenged, don't fret, cuz this ball seems

I have watched maney people throw this ball. And it has worked for basically everyone i know. One person I know still has some of her higher games with it, and throws 200$ balls now! This is the hardest hitting ball out there. And the best deal too.the ball goes long but not too long and snaps back to the pocket without leaving ten pins too often.I would recomend this ball to begginers and experianced bowlers. My only true dislike about this ball is that right now I cant find one in 15 pounds. This is truley a great ball for the buck

I criticize this ball alot because I feel this ball could be a little bit better and it would make wonders for me.I must say its already made a name for it self in my record book.3" pin, full leverage. In a sense this ball is sort of verstile. The reason being is when oil throw it straight up 10 second arrow. If slightly dry stand little bit more inside like no more than 31-33 with considerable speed and watch it dominates for a period of time.Once that period of time is up its best to switch to another selection. How you can tell is it starts leaving the whole back row family including my favorite ten pin.

on conditions medium oil-dry lanes u can almost play the same line with very few adjustments.on the dry lanes this ball could really open up the lanes with a lot of angle and the ball doesnt lose energy.this ball wouldve got a 10 but in this one house it is a 2nd shift league with a lot of oil and carrydown.i go around the ball a lot because of the way this ball was drilled so that it would move in the oil but it never grabs until its too late then the ball hits the pocket really soft and deflects.as soon as the lanes broke down the ball was hitting back to normal

it is a good bowling ball for the dry. you may need to sand it or use a scotch brite pad. it is my first columbia. to clean it i use renew-it then i use hook-it. i have used it on heavy oil, but it comes short to the 1-3 pocket. i think that crankers would have the hardest time with the ball because it was made for lenght not hook. it held though even when the carrydown began. right now it is in a box waiting for me to use it during the summer league. the bowling ball does get drity after 5-6 games with oil.

Leverage stacked. This ball carries very well. My wife has a spirit also and she does very well with it unless it's extremly dry or extremely oily. otherwise great. For the money it's a great ball. I can't use it for dry lanes or heavy oil. You know when it finds drier boards. Good to read the lanes with. will go long and snap hard. not the biggest overall hooking ball but the backend may surprise you. slower speeds expect bigger ball movement. I can shoot spares pretty good with it also do to the control and predictability. more speed longer it goes.

For the price this ball is greart, very strong finisher among all the ball i have. I had mine drilled long with a smooth arcing moton, it does so. Its good when used on medium to light oil. Great carry and very hard hitting! It's also very forgiving even if you miss your mark by at most 2 boards. On heavy oil though I can't make the ball finish well, although it wasn't made for that condition. Overall i say its a great investment when you're a serious bowler! It seem that columbia made a great ball in this one, just don't know why they discontinued it.

i had this ball drilled to go long but i had nooooooooooo idea that it was going to go this long it works reallt well on dry heads and striped backends hits good but sometimes the ball will deflect....carry isnt bad with this ball thats if u can get it to the pocket u will leave 10 pins a lot and for the leftys the 7 pin............... . . . . . . . . overall i would recomend this ball to ne cranker that cant get the ball down the lane. . . . . . . . . . . . . i have been thinking about getting another and havnt it drilled differently i will post another review if i do decide to buy it.... . .. .the xfactor is starting to change my mind

I've been an off and on league player for about 10 years and currently carry a 165 average with an all time high game of 237. In the four weeks since I've started using the Spirit I have already shot 4 games over 220, and haven't shot lower than a 175. I had been using a Teal Storm up until this ball, and was leaving a lot of splits even on pocket shots. With the Spirit I haven't had that problem at all. If I hit my mark, (Easier said than done.) the Spirit does the rest. Even though the conditions vary greatly on our league from week to week, the Spirit has been really consistent. The only adjusting I've done is to move a couple boards from time to time. The only draw back I can think of is that the coverstock doesn't seem to be as durable as the Storm or others I've had, but if that's what it takes for the results I'm getting, then so be it.

Great ball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Too bad it is discontinued, but my pro shop has several of them in the back. The price is great too. Out the door custom fitted with inserts a nd state tax was $75. Great deal! This ball goes down the lane and then explodes to the pocket. The dryer the lane, the better this ball works. I use a full roll shot and this ball carries way down the lane and then tracks to the pocket. I haven't left a 4-9 yet with it. It trips out a high hit and leaves me a makeable spare.<sc

I have been able to throw this ball on a variety of conditions and have had unexpected results. I have yet to find a condition that i could not throw this ball on. With the ball polished.. On an extremely bunt up shot, the ball did not burn up in the heads and energy on the backend to carry all ten. On a medium oil 7 to 7 with carrydown the ball clears the medium oil and just arcs beautifully on the carrydown. With the ball dulled to 600.. On a heavy oil 5 to 5 with fresh backends the ball goes forever and rips on the backend. On heavy oil 7 to 7 with carrydown the backend is big but toned down a little. On a tricky sport conditon the ball is very forgiving and eventhough they change the amount of oil weekly, i can still use this ball every week. Only minor adjustments are needed. This ball is by far better than my messenger ti which i thought at the time was the best mid priced ball i have ever thrown. And this ball is even cheaper! This will be the first b

This great little ball is excellent for a typical house shot. With this ball, I stand on 35 and shoot over 20, the ball always snaps back. This ball really smacks the pins! I had the ball drilled with the pin under my index finger, kicked out about 1/2 an inch. The drilling i used was supposed to tame the back end reaction.... I wonder how it would react with a stronger drilling. For the price, this ball can't be passed on! The Spirit is sure to provide striking results on most house shots, AND ALL FOR A GREAT CAUSE!!

This is a 15lb. ball drilled 4x4 stacked leverage with pin under ring finger with ball in box condition. Thrown at a synthetic house with a 1st shift fresh house pattern. I usually throw straight up the boards near second arrow and consider myself to be a power stroker. The ball moves through the heads easily and saves a great deal of energy for the back-end punch. This house is pretty speed sensitive but this ball forgives errant shots as well as anything else I own. For now, this will be the first ball out of my bag. This is my first Columbia ball and I am very pleased with this purchase. As others have said, this ball is tough to beat for the price.

You WILL like this ball. The spirit is the first ball out of my bag. Mine is 16#, drilled about 5-1/2 x 5-1/2. My PAP is at 6-1/4 x 1/2. I am right handed, throw about 17-18 mph, medium revs, 30 to 45 degree axis rotation with around a 45 degree axis inclination. It flares about 4 to 5 inches for me. On most "house" shots I will be standing left foot around 25 and hitting 13 at the arrows, with the ball getting out to 7 or 8 board and coming back like a truck. I have at least 100 games on it and its performance hasn't changed a bit over time. Very durable coverstock. Hardly any tracking yet. I clean it with alcohol immediately after league or tournament - before it goes back in the bag. I've never use it playing "up the boards", but I have played it farther to the right when required, and I have played deeper with it. I like it so much I bought another 16# and a 15# for when I get old. Be advised that the 15# has a higher RG than the 16#, so it will go longer. I was a die

I bought this ball for medium dry to dry tournament conditions and sport shots. For that purpose, it is "very excellent" as Bill and Ted would say. It is drilled reverse stack, 15 lbs with about an ounce of finger weight. It's forgiving for variations in revs, slightly less forgiving with variations in speed. I think this ball works best if played straight up the boards or with only a slight swing. Play it light with strong end over end roll and it carries very well. Since I prefer to keep my balls pearlized and polished, this ball is not enough for much more than medium-light to medium oil -- but that is fine since you can get equipment to solve that problem. If you face a wet-dry shot, this one is absolutely great in reading the line. For the money, the price and the cause (and recognizing it for its place in the arsenal, it is as good as the Too Hot and almost as good as the Pearl Pulse. Taking everything on performance into account, its a 9 out of 10 given its limitations.

I would recommend this ball to everyone. This is the least expensive ball that I carry (other than my spare ball), and it works better than the rest of them. The houses that I usually bowl in are medium to light oil. This ball works in both of those houses. I have thrown it on an oily condition, but it does not work to good. I like to play deep inside and this ball seems to work perfect for the way I throw the ball. Thanks Columbia. Just one of the many reasons why you're my favorite ball company.

I was impressed by the reviews on this ball and when I saw the price I took a chance and picked one up. This was really an after thought because I also purchased a BUZZSAW/C at the same time. Three week later I was still trying to get the best results from the BUZZSAW and I finally decided to put it away and try the SPIRIT. This Ball is unbelieable. It blows the pins away. Once you establish a line to get in the pocket, this ball will never fail. It consistantly stays in the path and hits like and atom bomb. I have all kinds of HIGH PERFORMANCE balls that don't compare to this reasonable priced ball. You wou't believe it till you try it yourself, it's worth the investment!!

I have alot of hand and hook the ball quite a bit. So I generally favor a less aggressive ball that gets deep. In an attempt to cut down my hook I decided to try a 15lb ball rather than my usual 16lb. I drilled a 15lb Spirit label leverage, pin at 1:30. Expecting a smooth even reaction. Not what I got. This is a very strong ball. The ball rolled early and even with a aggressive move on the back end and carried the pins extremely well. Although, this is not the ball for me I would recomend it to anyone who wanted a highly reactive ball at a reasonable price. Great ball, Columbia!!!

This ball defines "bang for your buck". We sell them for $100.00, including finger and thumb grips, and they have sold like CRAZY. I'll bet that since its release, we've sold 10-12 CASES of them. GET ONE WHILE YOU CAN! I drilled a 15# Spirit (pin out 3") for myself in a 4x4 drill pattern, pin next to the ring finger, and the label stacked straight down. I then took the ball back to neutral weight with an axis hole. The ball rolls so well, for me and nearly everyone that has bought one, that it could easily be sold for $200! Mine deliverd medium length, and an awesome backend punch. The only downside to this ball is that, unless you dull it down a bunch, it does not like wet patterns. I tested it in a wood house, dry outsides and backends, and oily from 7 to 7. I could play the oil line very easily, and the ball carried very well. Even when I had to move deeper, the ball responded by making a great charge to the hole. I then tested on synthetics, with 29 feet of oil buffed t

Topweight-3 Weight-15 Pin-1-2inchs Drilled-Axis/Leverage. the pin 1-3/4" inside of my axis point, also puting the hole 1-3/4" past my axis point. Lane#1-Lanes had not been touched from the night before, all the oil is pushed in the middle and down in the pocket. Ebonite Factory Polish Wanted a ball for dry lanes so i got the core in there side ways and have a nice controlable backend, and thats exactly what i got. Started by standing (just to let you now this ball has more turn on the backend then the raging red fuze)at 18 board and rolling to the 10 board swinging it to the 6 board, it had a nice late reaction (arc). Got what i wanted out of this ball and scoring preaty well with it. Cranked up the wrist, standing at 30 throwing at the 18 swing it to the 15 board with a nice aggsive arc. Hitts like a mad man. Hoping to find this ball good for sport shots and for dry lane condtions.

Ball specs 16lbs Top weight 3.2oz 2-3 pin 1/4 finger weight 5/8 side Well let me start by saying this is a great ball. I wanted to drill something for the dryer condition but still carry. The scouts were great for the dry but didnt carry as well as I wanted them too. SO we drilled one of these up with the pin about 1 inch for the side of my ring finger with cg in the center of my line of grip. This is excatly what I wanted it to do. Pulled it out 3rd game on league night. Lanes were offly dry and the heads were toast. This ball hooked just right I stood about 25 threw out 12 which swung out to about 5 and it came back crushing the rack. I just wanted to say thank you to columbia for such a great ball with a great price. ptown<

The most affordable high performance ball on the market today. This ball is great. Dark bluecolor lets you see the roll not all the fancy colors like most balls have nowadays. My inside info suggests that this ball is a compilation of more than 1 columbia BASF coverstock. Leaveing you to wonder a little bit. It is cheap you should be able to pick one up drilled for around a hundred dollars, so buy two or three. I've had much sucess drilling then pin about 4 inches from axis and cg 45% toward the pap with weight hole on the axix if needed. It is smooooth through the heads and recovers better than most you $250 products. I have one concern and that the extreme wet dry or dry condition it does hook very very hard on these condition but if you got the speed you can still throw it for sure. Not as flashly no added fragrance (hi guys Storm) and no hit on the wallet only hit on the lanes. Any questions let me know Trplx355@hotmail.com Capt Trplx Son of Jor-El

I will keep this simple, Im a tweener, Central Regional PBA player looking for a ball that is all control without paying the high prices. My axis is 5 3/4 over, 0 up. I had this one drilled with nothing on it, Just about 0 side weight, No weight at all. Pin right above the fingers. I see guys get in trouble on the sport condition because the lanes do break fairly quick, I wanted a ball with a whole lot of control but wouldnt dent the wallet either. Threw the ball on typical house shot, 38 feet of oil with swinging backends. I throw the ball very straight, Stood on 5 threw over 5 and loved it. This ball did not rev up quick because of having no weight drilled into it but it did once it got down the lane. This hit better than my Too Hot, It really surprised me, My hat off to Columbia for getting a ball on the market that is more than worth the money. Grab this one while you can, Its a sleeper, Hope this helps, RickyP...........
